Koestlich! Vier Sterne for one of these little places which lie tucked away from the spotlight.. The prices are very fair and there's a huge variety of imported European packaged foods.
All the sweet goodies and pickled yummies will make you feel like at home, even if you aren't German, and can't speak German, you will just start to feel homesick and mumble some german expletives in appreciation. Chocolates, sausages, mustard, cookies, syrups, jams, you name it, you'll find it. Located in what looks like an old workshop, with the foreman's office transformed into the cashiers "room" , it has a very industrial flair. Most of the foods are either directly out of the shipping box or in big piles on wood pallets on the floor. We walked out with some of our favorite pickles and Christmas cookies and expected a bigger bill than we ended up paying. We checked the receipt but everything seemed to be fine. I can't wait to go there again and I recommend you, that if you are in the area you should drop by and explore all the goodies which are available there.
Warum nicht fuenf Sterne? The place could use a breath of fresh air in terms of interior finish. And the oompahpah is probably what kept me from staying longer. Then again, maybe they should keep the oompahpah and turn it up a bit to prevent my ruin! Which I would definetly run into if they would start selling meats and cheese and the like. -

This is an odd warehouse-type place to buy all sorts of european specialty foods and the like.
At the front of the store, there is a selection of cheeses... the cheeses are super cheap!! I got a little container of that yummy soft Boursin garlic & shallot cheese for something like $3.25. If you eat that stuff often, you know that's pretty much a steal.
Upon getting home, I realized that the cheese had expired 3 and a half months ago. I'm not a big stickler on expiry dates, so I just took it out of the box and told no one. We all happily ate the cheese and no one got sick.
I went back to this place today and checked out the cheese selections again. They are all cheap because everything is expired!! Well, at least, the cheeses that I looked at were all expired- I didn't check every single type of cheese they had. There were many with no expiry on them at all... perhaps questionable? Personally I don't care. I bought more expired cheese and will eat it for sure. Yeah... sometimes prices are a little too good to be true, but if you don't mind expired stuff, then go nuts at this place!!
Mmmm and the chocolate room is pretty terrific. Definitely worth a look! -

I always find the time to show up at the European Specialty's food Imports just before Christmas. Here I know I can buy enough European Christmas treats to stuff all 12 stockings my family boasts for a reasonable price. I also come here so I can go into the chocolate room. Yes you heard me right they have a room separate from all the others where the chocolate lives. You can only imagine what it smells like. I feel weak at the knees just thinking about it.
The only bugger is the business hours. They are only open until 4pm during the week and 1pm on Saturdays so if you work a 9-5 job like me you have to plan. However, it's definitely worth a trip.
