Review from Laura P.
How disappointing. My pizza cravings are decently spaced, but when I'm feeling it, gosh darn, I am feeling it! A late night scurry for a veggie and cheese topped pie consisted of a mission to pizza corner strip. Which shop one to pick? I haven't eaten from these spots before. Unfortunately, we made the wrong choice. Learn from your mistakes, kids.
The service was friendly, and the workers were more than willing to pop a veggie pizza in the oven for me. 5 minutes later, the super power ovens had cooked up my pie and I was ready to go. They wrapped up our treats and we headed home to gorge.
Well... how disappointed was I to open my foiled package and see half the pizza on my piece MISSING. There was nothing but doh and sauce on half of this pizza. Devastated. I'll have to wait until my next alcohol induced craving to get my full fix. And so now I am jaded.
Not a fan. If you are wrapping up a pizza, you'll clearly see the pizza slice and half of its missing toppings. The fact that the sales boy just covered it up and gave it to me anyway is off-putting. I'll go elsewhere next time. -

Bad... and not Michael Jackson bad either.
I ordered a donair poutine. Easy, fries, donair meat, cheese and smother in hot gravy. Not easy to eat. Soggy fries (and not from the gravy), crusty donair meat even after it's been drenched with gravy. Skimpy cheese curds and old gravy. I couldn't even finish it. I heard the guy pop it in the microwave when he was preparing it. Might explain the rubber-fries.
Another thing I noted was an employee from Sicilian ran over into the kitchen, grabbed something and ran back. Are they owned by the same folks? Seems odd since the quality is so different.
Seating is minimal, and it would get cramped with more than 5 people in the store.
One good thing, it was clean.
No wi-fi, not accessible by wheelchair. -

Far from the best and second worst on the street.
European Food Shop is another pizza shop on the famous "pizza corner" in downtown Halifax. This area has three pizza shops all facing each other. However there is only one pizza shop out of those three that I would recommend. I don't want to deter attention from this review by mentioning which one is the better one...ah...so just check out my review of Sicilian Pizza. lol
The Pizza at this place almost always tastes like it has been sitting under the heat lamp for two or three hours before I got to it. If I do end up getting a fresh slice it is more bread and not a lot of flavor. Their staff are fine. Not friendly but also not rude. The place is small but clean which is a plus.
The slices of pizza aren't as big as some other, better pizza shops in the area and they don't seem to have a special sauce that would attract customer's to their store in particular. But I feel this place will be around for a while simply because they are situated near the bars and when people are tired of waiting in line at better pizza shops, they will naturally suck it up and go over to European Food Shop.
If I could change anything about this shop it would be the size, flavor and quality of the pizza and friendliness of the staff. All of these things, in my opinion, are easy fixes. But we'll just have to wait and see what happens. -

The European Food Shop is by far the weakest of the three pizza places on Halifax's Pizza Corner. A bright and relatively clean location does not fix the fact that the pizza is almost always tasteless and covered in that disgusting layer of cheese crust that develops when pizza is kept around for far too long.
Perhaps the biggest selling point for the European Food Shop is that the turn around time is very quick, usually because it is nowhere near as crowded as the Sicilian or K.O.D. But that is because the pizza is essentially a piece of card board.
I've tried The European Food Shop in the day time and late at night, thinking that at a less busy time the pizza might improve, and it does, but only marginally. If you must check this place out, check it out during the day when you're starving, broke, and need something to fill the void in your tummy. It's strictly for survival when you grab a slice here! -

Big slice of pizza and a 500 ml soft drink for under 7$ Not bad for Halifax as it was filling and quick. I happen to like thin crust without loads of cheese so it was a good fast lunch while browsing the stores on the avenue. If a quick cheep lunch while people watching is your thing then stop in for a slice. The location is ideal on a corner with the outer window seats bar stool style facing the windows. No public washrooms was a negative. The staff was quick to point out the pizza I first looked at was vegetarian and not the works. That helped and he was polite and friendly. Avoid the crowds and save a few dollars by stopping here.
