I love going here, and have been going at least once a week since I moved to the West End in August of 2005.   I have purchased more hummous during this time than the average person will ever eat - it's absolutely delicious, and although a bit pricier compared to the stuff you'd get say at Costco - it's 10X better.  Really, there's no comparison.  Try it with the Persian flatbread and some cut up vegetables!  Yum!
Other favourites to purchase are the dolmades (they're vegetarian) and the spinach/cheese Bureks -  I will heat one of these up in the oven to dip  in olive oil/balsamic mix.

It's my go-to place to go to find unusual things I have never heard of and therefore had no idea where to find - for example, I bought pomegranate molasses here, after watching the Food Network's "Best Thing I Ever Made."  Other recent purchases have included rose water (I made Victorian Rose Poundcake - but it's also excellent for your face!), olive oil, tahini and kebab spices by Sadaf (http://www.sadaf.com).

I'm a sucker for ethnic markets. If I'm gonna live somewhere, I need access to ethnic food stuffs. With this place, Vancouver qualifies.Who knows, after November we might have to move up north?

In the Bay Area, I often have to visit different markets to get what I need. This establishment seems to have it all. I  believe it is run by Persians, perhaps farsi speaking Afghans. It has products from England, Germany, Iran, Poland, Mexico, Indonesia, India, to name a few. I'm sure I'm missing some. Since we were travelling I only bought some coffee from Lebanon and some dried black cardamom pods. Gotta start cooking again.

When I answered the sweet man behind the counter's "thank you" with "you're welcome" in Farsi, I got a big smile and a "very good" answer in Farsi.

We used to come here when we first moved to the West End.  But we found the products to be too pricey for their quality.  For much less, you can get similar if not better products at Costco that will last longer and be packaged better.  The staff is friendly unless the store gets too busy.  Then it's a mad rush to fill orders.  We have since stopped coming to the store as we have found better places.

It is great to have somewhere so close to home where I can pick up all those harder to find ingredients. They stock all the spices I can't find at the grocery chains as well as fresh cheeses, olives and cured meats as well as a large range of canned and bottled goods. With products from all over the globe from Mexico to Poland and from India to Italy, they have a lot crammed into this small space.

If you can't find something always ask as I found out recently that they hold all the saffron behind the counter. Prices are a little high but I am happy to pay them for the convenience of having this place in the neighbourhood.

I found this place to be a little funkier than Euro Food plus - there's a bit less fresh stuff and a bit more packaged stuff. The assortment of jars and cans seemed kind of odd to me, but I'm sure if you're looking something specific, it could be really useful. I mean, the selection of ajvar was pretty impressive to me, and I ever saw cans of poppy paste! I've never seen that before. I was also intrigued by the persian soup in the deli section.

Mission to Try Vancouver's 101 Best Eats

Item: Ying Yang of Creamy Hummous and Roasted Red Pepper Hummous.
Price: Varies, depending of weight of container, packaged by store
Cuisine: small convenient store / deli / mixed varieties
Worthy of being on the list: Neutral
Comments: CORRECTION - on the list in Vancouver Magazine, it states that the item is a sundried tomato hummous... although that sounds out of this world....... it is actually roasted red pepper... ok.. so I was really looking forward to the sundried tomato but no dice
The hummus is creamy... really nice textures and overall flavour, I prefer it over the roasted red pepper, but still not bad. If I went back, I would probably just get the plain hummous. There was baklava being sold and I was tempted to get some. The owner (and son I think) were really nice.... working hard on Thanksgiving weekend too.
The place is small and although there is a giant sign outside their doorway, I think it is sandwiched between a laundromat or something........ it may not look appealing on the outside, the there are lots of delicacies once you step through the door!

This is a very convenient little shop that has both a deli counter and a wide variety of packaged goods.  They have a nice selection of deli items like hummus, cheeses, olives, and the like.  It also is a good place to pick up Persian flatbread, random spices you need for a recipe, or canned European and Middle Eastern foods.  Prices are a bit higher than you would find at places like Afra in North Vancouver or Parthenon in Kits, but considering the West End location and the higher rents, the prices seem reasonable, and the selections are good.

This place is a Euro / Middle-Eastern hybrid grocery offering a nice selection of high-quality deli products like cold cuts, cheeses and preserves, and home-made dips. My faves are the olives, flat-breads (super fresh pita for 89 cents on Wed and Fri), and Italian cured meats. They also do take-out sandwiches. As noted, prices are a bit high, but normal for the area. Service is always friendly even if it is a bit slow sometimes.
