Review from Lauren N.
This is where I found my wedding gown. Actually, I found the dress online and then learned that Ethos carried the particular bridal line (Jasmine), so I called them and booked an appointment. The staff are very helpful and will help you try on as many dresses as you'd like before you decide on "the one"; they don't hassle or rush you at all.
The only thing I noticed about the service was that they obviously work on commission. Normally, this is okay, but when one saleslady tried to steal me (i.e. the sale) from another, it made for a bit of discomfort and tension during the appointment. I say first dibs, and nothing else. It's unfair.
I like their range in wedding gowns, but the choice in bridesmaids dresses is fairly smaller and not as great, but still pretty expensive. They didn't actually have my particular dress in stock, but were able to order it from Europe. It took a few months, so make sure you allow plenty of time to find your dress before the wedding in case you need to order it in.
They also carry bridal accessories like hair pieces, veils, and jewelry for your big day. I don't think they carry bridal shoes, however. They don't offer in-house tailoring, but can recommend a tailor they've worked with quite often.
A little bonus -- they throw in a free blue garter when you purchase your dress. Something new and something blue! -

I went to Ethos on a whim, not really thinking I'd find anything. One of my 'maids and I browsed around and found something interesting for me to try on. The sales lady talking to us was very friendly, and when asked she produced and adorable (longer) tea length gown for me to try at a nice price point ($750). My dilemma with tea length has been that I never saw myself wearing a tea length gown for my entire wedding day, and with this one being longer, it was a nice compromise. She helped my in to a huge petticoat so I could see the dress in it's "fullness potential" and wrote everything down for us before we left.
One thing I will say is that the gown was a lot lower in quality than any of the other ones I have tried on up to that point. It was one layer of tulle on top of the under layers, and because of that, it didn't really give me the "princess bride" feeling I was going for. The shop is a little older and could use some upgrades, and the 'maids dresses always seems to be one the more disorganized end of things. They did have a lovely selection of black fascinators with crystal accented birdcage veiling. Bonus! This shop is worth a look if you're on a budget, and unless things have changed, they don't offer in house alterations. (When my bridesmaids got their dresses here during my first miserably failed engagement years ago, that was the case).
Worth a peek if you're in the area. -
Review from Alex P.
I went to WEM to check out wedding gowns one night. I did not have any appointments and was not expecting a fitting, I just wanted the opportunity to browse dresses and get a feel for the prices. I am on a very strict budget so I just wanted to know what was out there.
Even though I didn't have an appointment, the store was rather dead so I did get to try on some dresses. I thought the staff were helpful (if not a bit tired, seemingly) and were of a positive disposition. They answered all of my questions honestly and respected my budget.
As I suspected, there was not a lot to choose from. A simple A-line gown ran upwards of $400, which I thought was totally ridiculous. I can buy a well constructed A-line party dress (pretty much the exact same construction only a bit shorter), with lining for $100. As soon as you put it in white, the price quadruples? Really?? I don't buy it.
Also, nothing fit me. I know I was trying on samples, but the dimensions were totally weird. I can buy off the rack in pretty much any regular clothing store... so what's up with that? (I know wedding dresses are meant to be taken in/out multiple times and this is not the fault of the shop, but it was supremely frustrating for someone who didn't want to spend additional money on alterations).
OK, enough general wedding rants. The sales associate I was working with offered to give me a few of the sample gowns as-is for my requested price. All things considered, I appreciated this a lot. The gowns in my opinion weren't for me (I liked one of them, but wasn't going to pay even that much for what it was) but the gesture was nice.
A few negative comments ... the store looked very old and run-down. It's not like the place was really dirty, but it kind of had a grungy and disorganized feel to it. Things were put away and it's not like there were heaps of clothes in the change rooms ... but I just didn't appreciate the atmosphere. I definitely didn't feel like a "princess" or any of the things you're apparently supposed to feel as a bride-to-be.
Overall, my visit to Ethos Bridal Group was an OK experience -- not great, not bad. I do appreciate the sales associate putting the effort in to try to meet my budget within the constraints of the psychotic prices they are given.Listed in: The Budget Bride
