Ah France... Ah galette... more specifically, Galette Bretonne.
In Northwest France, you can find the region of Bretagne, the origin of galette, savory buckwheat crepes. Luckily for us, we need not travel far to taste this cultural specialty.
With fresh ingredients and a friendly "bonjour," Et Voila! is a hidden gem in an otherwise unfrequented mall.
During my last visit, I had the Saint Tropez Galette, consisting of goat cheese, prosciutto, mushrooms, onions, with pesto and tomato sauce.
Such a great combination. The creaminess of the goat cheese, the tart and flavourful pesto and tomato sauce... not to mention prosciutto and mushroom that just completes the dish. Truthfully, I don't know of any place that has a crepe or galette as fancy as the one I just described.
Just be wary that sometimes, they don't have salad that comes with the galette. All in all, it's perfect for a quick trip to France on your lunch break. Bon appetit! -
Review from Jessie J.
Hidden away in a basement food court, Et Voila! serves without a doubt the best crepes in Vancouver. The all-buckwheat savoury "galettes" come topped with delicious combinations of vegetables (mushrooms, artichoke hearts, spinach, red peppers, caramelized onions), meat (prosciutto, ham, capicola, smoked salmon), sauces (pesto, tomato), eggs, and cheese (emmental, chevre), and are served with a fresh salad or cup of scrumptious homemade vegetarian soup (split pea, butternut squash, chickpea), all for under 7 bucks.
The charming owner (I think his name is Francois) is happy to substitute vegetarian options into meaty crepes, so those avoiding gluten and/or meat are well served here. I've never asked for a dairy-free variation, I love my cheese too much, but I suspect he would do it.
The sweet crepes are of course also delightful. My fave is the surprising Rennes (all the crepes and galettes are named after places in France), combining apples and chocolate. And you can add a sweet crepe to your galette order for only a couple of extra dollars for their great value lunch special.
The menu also includes tartines (sandwiches) but I have yet to venture into breadier territory. The crepes are just too good!
Beyond the food, a major part of Et Voila!'s charm is its owner and his female assistant. They are delightful in both official languages, giving francophones a chance to speak their native tongue, and francophiles a chance to give their French muscle a bit of a workout. A couple of days ago I also heard Francois speak a little Spanish, too. Who knows what else he's got up his sleeve...
Of course, the hideous Harbour Centre food court is completely the wrong atmosphere for this food, but when it's nice out you can walk north a block and a little west and eat outside overlooking the seabus terminal and Canada Place. Tip: if you're planning to take away, bring your own container (or 2 if you're getting soup), then neither you nor Et Voila! have to feel guilty about putting more styrofoam into Vancouver's landfills. -

Et Voila! is a great place for a quick earthy lunch.
They serve wonderful crepes, sweet or savory. The savory ones are called galettes and are made of 100% organic buckwheat flour ! Most of their ingredients are either local or organic and always super fresh.
They also serve Tartines, which are grilled open face sandwich... a very nice alternative to our daily sandwiches :-)
Also, as Jessie already said, Tartine or Galette are served with your choice of homemaid soup or organic greens... Just what I need for lunch !
I highly recommended it ! -

The savoury crepes are amazing, the home made soups are simple and very good and almost everything is local or organic. Made to order while you watch, and the entire process is narrated in the most lovely Parisian dialect. Very decent prices on top of all that! Cheap, tasty, healthy AND entertaining, this is fast becoming a favourite fast-lunch option.
