Review from Monica T.
Had a reasonably okay experience with this venue until this evening.
First off, after never having a sign up for the NYC mandatory sanitation grade, they finally have one up that says "grade pending." That means "I'm NOT eating here since for all I know, I'll get rat parts in my food."
I was here to meet with job candidates. As coffee shops are SUPPOSED to be a place of relaxation where people can spend the day on their laptops, I'm well within my rights to conduct job interviews here instead of risking my safety by meeting people in my home.
A few people got drinks here & told me they were good but something happened this evening that changed all that.
One of those selfish, entitled parents walked in with two small kids, including one in a stroller. Stroller child started shrieking while she's chatting with some older woman. The mother makes ZERO effort to calm or even acknowledge this child's unhappiness at being in a coffee shop. I couldn't even hear my interviewee talking to me or keep focused on the task at hand.
I walk over, mention the interview & said "If you don't mind, could you please keep it down." The mother says nothing while friend goes "I know you didn't just say that."
During this time, not a SINGLE employee bothers to step up or deal with this situation.
After the deadbeat parent & my interview candidate leave, I phoned my husband. When telling him about this & how my sister who has a young child herself would NEVER do what this woman did, the woman who endorses bad parenting makes a point to say "Get an office." Maybe she should get a life & stick to letting kids scream in HER home vs. a public place, especially a coffee shop.
I decided to speak to the manager later on about this but when I called, the employee who answered was totally dismissive. He informed me that the manager has no set schedule & just wanders in whenever, meaning I would have ZERO opportunity to discuss this with him/her unless I play luck of the draw.
They even have a sticker on their door that says "People on Yelp Love Us." Well, this Yelper sure doesn't & will not be returning when screeching children have more rights there than paying adults or anyone else seeking to RELAX & have a pleasant, quiet chat.
Isn't that the whole point of a coffee shop in the first place? -

I'm giving this place 5 stars if only because well....it's the only real coffeehouse in the area, and it's decent. (Sure there's that Italian 'espresso bar' sort of diagonally across the street, but oddly enough I never see real customers in there..hmmmm)
Anyway, this place is certainly nice enough, has all your basic coffeehouse offerings and WiFi. The only downside which obviously can't be helped is the location of the place. It sits squarely in the middle of a sort of triangular intersection where drivers sometimes are a bit reckless. I honestly can envision one day, a car pulling out of the Stop & Shop parking lot across the street, another reckless driver coming by in one of the other directions, someone has to swerve, and boom....a car comes plowing through the unshielded glass of the coffeeshop. I think the shop is in an extremely vulnerable location for some kind of a traffic incident, and really think some kind of barriers should be put up alongside both sides of the shop to prevent a car from plowing through, especially on the Stop & Shop side! -

There is something weirdly impersonal about the Esparks vibe, like a birthday card from your dentist's office. Where an independent coffee shop has original artwork, Esparks has posters of coconut beverages taped to the windows; the kind deli owners put up to get discounts on their deliveries. Where a typical coffee shop would play some moody singer/songwriter on the barista's iPod, Esparks plays Top 40 Pop music via satellite radio.
In short, Esparks was designed with all the unimaginative practicality of a suburb. A suburb has a Post Office, a High School, and a Wal-Mart, Esparks has espresso, wi-fi, and croissants; it has everything it needs and little else - and that's what I find most charming about it. It lacks the elaborate phoniness of that other coffee chain and does not give me the synthetic heebie jeebies like Dunkin' Donuts.
The baristas are as approachable and unassuming as the establishment itself and the coffee is good, (not great - but also not overpriced) - plus they also have a bunch of sugary frozen options if you're into that.
Esparks, if you're reading this I do have one suggestion:
Provide liquid sugar, (simple syrup) for your iced coffee drinkers. It's just sugar melted into hot water. Grains of sugar do not melt in cold drinks. Leave it on the counter next to the granulated - and while you're at it put some milk out there too! People like to pour their own milk. -

They are alway bewildered when I order my drink but hey give it a try! Order an iced chi with vanilla and skim milk, it's yummy and no it's not on their menu. .. So take a break and enjoy just try not to go when the church group is in session unless of course your part of it 8)

I'm a frequenter of this cafe and I have little to no complaints.
Their frozen yogurt parfait is amazing and they have a wide variety of toppings to choose from (from chocolate chips to fresh strawberries). The chai blended ice drink is a staple for me when I visit as well and I've had no issues with it.
One of the things can be a problem for me is when they run out of soy milk. I'm lactose intolerant and several times I've been told they don't have soy that day.
The amount of seats is moderate for the size of the cafe but I warn everyone to stay in your seat at all times. I had an incident where I went to the bathroom and left my purse on the seat only to have it moved and my chair stolen.
This isn't a fancy cafe but the prices are fair. The staff is friendly and there's a wide variety of options. -

Not very busy, which is nice, but a very small and not well laid out seating area. Lots of outlet plugs. No comfortable seating. Coffee and baked goods are not very good. The service is pretty poor.

I guess a perfect cafe to me has a few things. It has more atmosphere then just coffee and pastries. This is a place that you wont ever see any live Bands and, its to small, but you will have very good bubble tea. I been many places where the bubbles are just hard and not very good.
Then mango bubble tea at this place was outstanding. The pastries are a little lacking though I stick to the any of the yogurt muffin which are made fresh, I'm guessing off premises. Another sign the stores pastries are lacking are that there are prepackaged pastries sitting there next to the register. Fresh is always better then prepackaged products that I could've gotten from the local bodega.
All and all though they let me sit for a good amount of time had ample seating and aside from some loud customers speaking in German the atmosphere is a good place to studying or relax. -

I am kinda disappointed that here in America Starbucks tends to dominate most high streets with the exception in some areas where you can also find a Dunkin Donuts. I guess, in general, many split between the two. Either you're a fan of one or simply prefer the other. However, in my attempt to try something new, namely Esparks, I cannot see why they didn't step up and offer its clientele something different - a taste that would want me come back for more but unfortunately has not lived up to my expectation to make a change away from the other two merchants.
I've always driven past and said myself 'I must try this place one day.' Today was that day and in future I'll just continue to drive by. Sorry Esparks (a play on the name and the colours of the place have a familiar look too) but you're fired!
God I wish they had a Costa Cafe or a Cafe Nero over here!! -

Awesome! It's like a little Pinkberry/Starbucks hybrid right in Glendale. It's never crowded, the staff is friendly and the food/coffee is awesome. I actually like the frozen yogurt here a lot better than Pinkberry. The fruit is super fresh and cut right in front of you. The prices are great. Free WiFi and never crowded!
Definitely recommend. -

Tiny place, but good to rest after getting groceries at Stop & Shop. Quiet, mellow, I think free Wi-Fi. Anything is better than Starf***ers.

The baked goods and frozen yogurt here are amazing and make stopping by worth the trip. I am not a coffee drinker, but have been told by people who frequent Starbucks that Esparks coffee is a notch below.
I frequently drop by for the frozen yogurt.
Seating is comfortable, it's never loud or too crowded to find a seat and they offer free wifi. The workers are always pleasant. -

Good coffee place. It's like a Starbucks but without the feeling that the you're too undeserving for the coffee. They make good mixed coffee drinks, though I think they should charge less than Starbucks prices.
The frozen yogurt Parksberry thing they have is really good. -

It's great to have a place like this within a few blocks of my house. The regular coffee is a little on the bitter side at times, but all the other stuff--pastries, frozen yogurt, etc--really makes up for it. My only complaint is the hours are a little on the erratic side. They never seem to be open early enough, and they seem to schedule late nights on a whim. I'm guessing this is a small-store, small-staff issue, and if someone gets sick it can throw the whole thing out of whack ("I'm not even supposed to BE here today!"). A minor quibble, but the place does seem to be closed almost every time I pass by on the bus looking for it to be open.
But..............when they're open, they're great. :) -

OPEN! There are very few coffee houses in this neighborhood and so I was dismayed to read that this one had gone out of business. I drove by the location to confirm that it had, indeed, closed. It wasn't closed. It was open. There were customers inside enjoying their beverages, the front door was open, the Esparks signs were still intact, and the business looked exactly as it always has.
I'm glad because the Esparks near Trader Joes did close. While I preferred the ambiance, service, and drink quality at the other Esparks, I'm glad that at least one of them is still open and operating. -

A nice coffee shop with a very good selection. It's a little on the pricey side, as well as kinda small & cramped. But the beverages and snacks are all delicious. I enjoy stopping here after going for groceries at the Stop & Shop across the street.

This coffee shop is closed! :( I have been going here recently because I have started to work from home. Staying in my apartment staring at my laptop gets old..fast. Every couple of weeks I would go to this coffee shop, get breakfast, and work off of their free wi-fi. I never had trouble getting a seat and camping out and their ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches were really good-and really cheap. I got a medium coffee and an egg sandwich all for around $4.00. I drove past E-Sparks 2 weeks ago wanting to go in, but there are signs all around it saying it was closed. Bummer!

Pretty cool place. Good coffee very similar to Starbucks. Free Wi-fi and never ever crowded (yet). Always parking as well. I recommend getting a Congelate when in the mood for something cold. It is the same thing as a Starbuck Frappachino but it's much better tasting I think.
