This park is a nice little alternative to Hawerlack and they allow dogs (which was my main motivation to go here in the first place). It seems like a really random place to go because it is just off a busy downtown road, but it is actually quite pretty and serene.
There is plenty of space to sprawl out and have a picnic here. There are day site areas with barbeques you can use as well.
There are also some really nice paths in this park that you can walk your dog in or wander around just for fun.

A group of friends and I had a bbq party this past summer at Emily Murphy, and it turned out great. The park is nice and small, so it's not hard to find your party when everyone is arriving at different times. And because it's smaller, it feels more cozy and private. A big plus was that they had flush washrooms (a necessity, right ladies?)!

There were a lot of trees around us so we couldn't really toss a frisbee around freely without knocking out leaves from the trees. Maybe kicking around a ball is better. They have bbq grills, picnic tables, water fountains, and recycling bins in addition to the flush toilets. A great option to Hawrelak Park.

Big isn't necessarily better. Emily Murphy Park Road is one of my favourite city parks. It's located in the heart of the river valley, and so gets lots of afternoon sun exposure, so it's great for a summer afternoon picnic or game of volleyball or badminton. They have nets and a sandy court, picnic benches and fire pits - all you need for the makings of a summer beach day and soiree or family BBQ. Backyards are so over-rated.

I also like this park 'cause it's got great trails for walking and running. It's pretty secluded, so best to get your walk or jog in with a partner for safety. You can put a boat in the water from here, or do some fishing, and if you've got kids there are swings, slides and see-saws to keep them entertained. In the winter, you can access the Hawrelak Park cross-country ski loop or go tobogganing on the small slopes.

They do not enforce parking regulations much down here. It's two-hour parking, but if you need to go to the university, there isn't any free parking, so on occasion I've parked Emily Murphy and I've never been ticketed.

Oh, the memories of my childhood. This is a popular spot for cyclists, joggers, walkers, and families out for a fun time on a barbecue in the summer or sledding in the winter. It is a very quiet park, as it is located a bit out of the way compared to other City parks, which only adds to its charm. There is a small playground for children, and I believe there are washroom facilities. This is a great place if you want to sunbathe or just hang out without crowds of people around.
