Was driving by a couple weeks ago and about had to slam on the breaks as I saw the sign for Elo's Cheesesteaks. I was hungry and am always intrigued by the awesome sandwiches served on the East Coast. What a find it would be to find something comparable on our Coast in the Pacific Northwest.
Well it wasn't quite that but it was pretty good and very reasonably priced. Quite large but I was one of two tables. Maybe it was between lunch and dinner. The people at the counter were very nice and they chopped up my cheesesteak nicely, the way I like it. -

This place was awful. The food was decent, but the experience was terrible. The place is very out dated and drab. The lady that took our order was rude and unfriendly. When we paid for our meal we asked her to break a $20 she refused. Then when I asked for a refill on my drink she said they don't give refills, despite the fact it's fountain soda. I offered to pay for a refill, she charged a dollar, but when I handed her a $20 because that's the smallest I had, she complained.

Had the Philly Steak with cheese and it was good, really good. The food was cooked fresh and was ready within minutes.
Yes I agree with all of the comments about the place being poorly decorated but it was clean and the service was good and to be honest that is the perfect hole in the wall to me! -

I've been eating at Elo's for years. Always good service and Philly sandwiches with plenty of meat. It's a very simple place for lunch time in an industrial area. The food is good, it's a clean establishment and the people try really hard. What more do you need for a quick lunch?

Lets be honest, this place is shady looking and located in a semi-shady area. I walked in for the first time and immediately had second thoughts about eating here. But I was STARVED and I wanted a damn cheesesteak and according to my Yelp app this place has good ones. (So I settled the debate with my inner voice and headed up to the counter. )The lady behind the counter seems to be the only person here. (later on she mentions she is the owner and has owned that place for 17 years!) So anyways I look at the menu and decide to get the cheesesteak with everything on it! The little lady whips it up in no time. Serves it piping hot. The bread is fresh, green peppers are slightly crunchy which is great. Good amount of onions and mushrooms. I would have liked a little more cheese though. Bottom line. Although this place could use a serious make over, the cheesesteak was good. No it is not the best cheesesteak I've ever had, the best cheesesteak I've ever had cost $18. But for $5.49 this place provides a pretty good one. If I'm ever in this area again I would stop by and get one again.

Great steak sandwich for $5! I would've liked more meat but this ain't Philadelphia and the sandwich was only $5! I usually hate eating steak sandwiches outside of Philly due to the horrible choice of bread but this place made a good decision on the bread they are using.The place was super clean and all the ingredients super fresh. The little lady working there is very friendly and got our food out quick.

The good news is I ate here yesterday and I'm still alive. I did have one hell of a stomach ache last night but I think food poisoning lasts longer then few hours.
The bad news: All the rest.
Decor: It looks like it was decorated on the cheap in 1955 and that was the last time any sort of work was done. Everything looks dirty and faded. The floor is brown linoleum like your grandmother use to have in her bathroom or the kitchen of that first apartment you had in college. . Lots of brown wall paneling and faded dirty white walls. I was afraid to touch anything due to fear of it being sticky... The whole place sort of reminded me of a dirty bingo hall from the 1970's. Folding tables, old dirty chairs, ugly colors, dirty walls, ect.
Food: This term should be used loosely, unless we are talking about the bowel movement that follows then that is exactly what I'm talking about. They say they sell Philly sandwiches and Japanese/chinese fast food (rice, noodles, Kung Po chicken). What you get is not really even close. It comes on a paper plate and you can add your own pickles (the only thing I found that remotely tasted like what it was suppose to be.) The meat and cheese is almost tasteless. They do give you plenty of grease with your sandwich however if that's what your looking for... .
Price: Its cheap, but not that cheap. My small soda and sandwich ran about eight bucks. That's on the high side for food that I would turn away if it was free. (That's a lie, I'll eat almost anything. But still, eight bucks???)
Service: Let me just say the lady who took my order didn't seem very happy to see me. Maybe I interrupted a private conversation, as my friends and I were the only ones in the restaurant. Maybe all the lead paint on the walls was affecting her mood. Who can tell... -

Wow, well, I don't know what gives with all the bad reviews here. Maybe they heeded the advice here, and improved, or maybe my sandwich was a freak accident. Whatever, my Philly here was perfect.
As with others, I spotted this place driving around, at 10:30 am while driving by on Airport Way, coming into Georgetown area scoping for a breakfast place. I love happening on a unique looking place that kind of sticks out, and this place fits that bill. It's in a larger building, and doesn't really fit it's location amidst the trains and industrial works and all. Inside is sparse, kind of boring, but clean, and it was, like others said, empty. But then, it was just 10:30 am (they open at 10 am, presumably to prepare large delivery orders).
I ordered Elo's "Super Steak" which automatically include mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and cheese, and for only 30 cents more than the regular plain Steak, for a base total of $6.49 for a large. The large is pretty big, and stuffed, but typical of the 6" subs in length, or to a "small" at Tats. The small is a dollar less, but the large was perfect for me. I also asked to add Jalapenos for some heat, which I told her I like, and cost another 50 cents, big whoop.
I was very impressed. I watched the nice woman proprieter throw the fresh looking ingredients on the very clean grill, adding ingredients as she went, and in about a minute, I had my beautiful sandwich.
I personally liked that she automatically used provalone, instead of that traditional cheese-whiz crap, which I CAN tolerate. I know this is sacrilege, but I would rather have good quality, regular tasty cheese on my sandwich. The meat was really, really good -- looked good, tasted good. It wasn't cut in to tiny, tiny shreds, then overcooked like most other Philly places. Rather, there were relatively larger chunks of steak, that were very juicy, I think because it wasn't overcooked and overcut.
All of the ingredients were super fresh, and it makes a huge difference in the taste of the sandwich. She put a lot of Jalapeno in it, knowing that I enjoy the heat, so you should let her know if you want a lot or a little heat if you do the same.
The roll was also super fresh, a sourdough roll, I think, akin to a ciabatta, with a crunchy crust and a soft, tasty middle -- perfect for this sandwich.
Normally, I get myself ready for a Philly sandwich before I dig in, because I expect crazy drippage. Usually it runs all over my shirt, and despite my best efforts carefully placing napkins like a bib, I still somehow manage to get little droplets of grease and sauce dribbling down my shirt. I'm still trying to perfect my method, but to little avail.
AMAZINGLY, though, this Philly had NO DRIPPAGE. I think it was a combination of the bread effectively soaking up the juices, but also because the meat they use is not super fatty, cheap stuff, but REAL strips of thinly sliced steak. Looking at it raw, the meat had an exceptional looking color and marbling, and looked like really good stuff. It turned out juicy, but not greasy.
I salivated watching her cook it, only to find drool running down my dress shirt -- dammit!
They also offer a number of good looking standard sandwiches that look really good, too, like Italian Subs, and French Dip. I was not the least bit interested in their Teriyaki and Yakisoba offerings on the menu, for some reason, but be my guest if you are.
PROS: Really GREAT Philly Cheesesteak. Probably the best, and freshest I've had in Seattle, and may even edge out Tat's DAYUM good sandwich, but just by a little bit. I like the flavor of Tat's Italian hot peppers, but the difference here is in it's exceptional quality meat, super fresh ingredients, and less grease. Price is a buck or two cheaper, too.
CONS: Nah, not really. -

I've heard great reviews that this place is really good. Well, it's mediocre.
I had the Philly Steak with mushroom and cheese. It was plain. No seasoning in the meat, cheese and mushroom mix, unlike the other Philly places in Seattle I have tried. I had to put horseradish (always good with beef) and squirt of bbq sauce just for little flavor. The bun, I'll have to say was VERY good, only if they could improve their steak!
My bf had the Chicken Yakisoba. Too far from being authentic. They use spaghetti noodles and the yakisoba sauce was basic teriyaki sauce. There were mushrooms, green peppers and onions in the mix. They serve MASS mound of yakispaghetti over rice on a platter. Just by looking at the platter, one bite would make you full.
There was also complimentary hot and sour soup that was very spicy and bland. I like the ingredients they had in the soup - daikon, mushrooms and onions. I was cold and the soup just made me warm, little soy sauce helped a bit. It was free, can't b!itch and did it's job.
Overall, I'll be back, not anytime soon and give it another try. They have other steak, bbq, subs and specialty sandwiches, teriyaki meats over rice and of course the mass mound of yakisoba.
UPDATE: 12/11/2007
I had their Beef Teriyaki. Came with lots of white rice and plain chopped lettuce with Ranch Dressing. I was dragged to this place and my bf was paying so I wasn't complaining until NOW. The beef was cold and the teriyaki sauce was thick and out of a can. GROSS!
The only thing that's holding them with the one star is the complimentary VERY SPICY hot 'n sour soup. This time the soup had flavor and still the same yummy ingredients!

I am all about trying new spots that lack pretension. I was with a winery rep and we were going to head to Georgetown to try some good food, and saw this place and thought, "it looks old school"
MISTAKE.
General Tsao chicken and philly cheesesteak don't go together on a menu. We came in about 1245 and it was empty... should have been first clue. We each ordered the cheesesteak and it was so bland I had to cover it in mustard.
The best part was the bread.
I won't be coming back. -

This one is a challenge, It's been almost two years since I stopped in, but I'll never forget the experience.
I was searching for a good Philly cheese steak (and I'm incredibly picky since I used to live in Phila).
And I saw Elo's down below me while driving on the I-5. I had to give this place a try.
The menu options from what I remember consisted of either a cheese steak, or stir fry.
The place was empty, I assume it is more crowed when the blue collar types are hard at work in the neighborhood.
Very basic decor, but plenty of seating.
There was some sort of Asian vernacular Christian Gospel music playing.
That trip was surreal...I haven't been back.
I don't think that I will ever go back.
Two stars vice one because the food was OK.
Service was OK.
the Menu was limited.
Music was scary. -

I have driven by this place more times than I can count on my way to and from work. Being the philly-fanatic that I am I couldn't resist trying it for long. As you enter the empty restaurant with 10-12 tables spread throughtout you are immediately taken back by the yellowed walls and 30 year old carpet on the floor. I seriously dont think this place has been cleaned in a half century!
One nice thing about coming here is that I know I will never have to wait in line because out of the 20+ times I have eaten here maybe twice have there been other people there. The food here is nothing special, you wont be ranting or raving about the culinary achievements but it is good enough to go back every once in a while. -

Elo's..."Seattle's Gloomiest Restaurant." You'll need a Prozac, not a Pepcid after visiting. The dining room size is completely disproportionate to the volume of patrons, and the emptiness only adds to the melancholy. I have no idea what the intended decor theme is...the art and furniture look like they came from a DoubleTree Hotel closing sale.
In spite of the ambience (or lack thereof), the hot sandwiches at Elo's really aren't bad. I've tried the Philly steak with mushrooms, BBQ beef with cheese, and teriyaki chicken with cheese and added pineapple. All were acceptable, and the toasted rolls are excellent. The teriyaki flavor on the chicken was a bit lacking, but the meat itself wasn't scary. I think the $5.49 price tag is a bit high for the size, but not for the taste. Bottled drinks are spendy, and one of them plus a small sandwich will set you back $8.
I'd never stay here to eat, as generally speaking I don't like dinner to give me a case of clinical depression. Elo's is fine for take-out in my book, though, and I'm sure I'll be picking up more hot sandwiches to go. -
