Review from Ethel T.
Richmond, BC
I received a spa day as a Christmas present. Being a spa regular, I can confidently say that out of all of the spas I've gone to in Canada and in other countries, Elmwood Spa is the best.
The facilities are excellent. Unlike other spas in Toronto (e.g., Vikaspa), the changing rooms were spacious, with ample locker space and good amenities. I especially appreciated the little touches they provided, such as complimentary razors, tampons, etc. I also like how all guests are given an itinerary!
The lunch I received was amazing!!! Though it was a bit crowded, and it took awhile for them to seat us, this was perfectly understandable. Also, everyone was so gracious that I really didn't mind the wait. Oh, and the food selection was great. If you want to eat standard spa food such as salads, you can do so. They do, however, also serve steak frites, which weren't as good as, say, La Palette's but it was a notch above standard spa food. They also have a wine list, which, again, isn't what you would find in other spas but is very much appreciated, especially for those of us seeking to relax.
As for the services themselves, I highly recommend the RMT massage and the facial. My massage therapist gave me good advice following treatment to make sure that I knew how to relieve the tension in my shoulder blades. I also appreciated that she asked me how much pressure I wanted. A lot of places assume that because I'm little, I can only tolerate light massages; no sirree - knead my shoulders like you're kneading dough! And my massage therapist delivered.
The facial was also great. My facialist went through the details of my treatment extensively and I knew every step of the way what to expect. She also made sure to give me another relaxing massage afterwards! So in the end, I got two massages in one visit!
Another thing I appreciate about Elmwood is that they don't try to coerce you into buying products afterwards. There is no hard sell involved here!
Overall, this was an enchanting experience! I will definitely return. -

I visited Elmwood Spa with my mom for Mother's Day and overall we had a good experience. We had lunch first, following which I had a manicure and pedicure and my mom had a facial and manicure. Lunch was pretty good - nothing special but nothing to really complain about either. My mom really enjoyed her facial and said her esthetician was very skilled, knowledgeable and happy to answer a few questions that she had. I was a bit disappointed by the manicure and pedicure facilities. There are quite a few stations (almost too many for the room) which feel kind of squished together. The chairs aren't particularly comfy - there are no massage armchairs here. The room was also quite noisy and difficult to relax in. The quality of both my manicure and pedicure wasn't quite as good as I was expecting for a spa. Considering Elmwood charges significantly more than Nailsense, which I usually visit to get my nails done, I wasn't blown away.
The customer service was quite good and everyone was friendly and helpful. The facilities are also nice and very clean. Overall, I would visit Elmwood spa again for other services, just not to get my nails done as I'm not sure its worth the steep price. -

I really enjoyed my time at Elmwood. I was pretty impressed by the change room--clean, pretty, had a whirlpool, was stocked with beautifying essentials (e.g. hair straightener, all sorts of creams in the showers, etc.)--and of course the spa services did what they were supposed to do, which is to relax me and make me feel pampered. And nearly all of the staff were very friendly and consistently checked to make sure that my day was going well. I had the three course lunch; as others have said, the food didn't blow me away, but it was still pretty decent.
Why this wasn't a five was had to do with the actual length of the services. I had the Elmwood Escape package, which according to the schedule, consisted of a 60 minute massage, a 50 minute facial, a 50 minute pedicure and a 35 minute manicure. It seemed like the set up time for the staff members performing these services were accounted into these time frames, so everything was notably shorter than the advertised times (e.g. I definitely know my pedicure was about 30 minutes of actual foot-attention time.) So while the services were well executed, I still felt slightly ripped off.
Oh, and I know supposed "calmness-enhancing" words like "water therapies" and "whisper room" are a part of the spa industry, but my down-to-earth sensibilities still cry foul at this. Let's just leave the silly adjectives aside people. Can we just not call these things what they are? (In this case, a swimming pool and a lounge.) A fantastic spa can still be fantastic without the cheesy descriptors. -

I went here on my birthday and loved it!
The Bad:
My massage appointment was delayed for 20 minutes because my massagist did not show up and they had to find a replacement. You would expect a place to be more professional when you're paying that premium. (-1 star)
The Good:
Elmwood Spa is tranquil and luxurious. The service is also excellent. I love that they have a whirlpool in the middle of the change room. They also provide you with robes, flip flops and towels.
The replacement massage therapist was wonderful - she was attentive and focused on what I wanted.
The "Water Therapy" is complimentary when you get a massage. I really enjoyed the steam room and the pool! I wish there were different types of pools though - like Body Blitz.. eg) green tea pool, dead sea salt pool
I will probably come back - Elmwood Spa price is pretty decent compared to other high end spas in Toronto! -

I'm updating my review based on the Lunch addition I had this time at the Terrace Restaurant.
I went for my massage in the morning WHICH wasn't as good as my last one with Mr Liverpool - So I think the next time I go back, I'll actually request to have Liverpool - that way I know I'll enjoy my massage. This time my guy kept talking to me...shhhh! I want to relax!
Anyways ...
I was told that people come to this restaurant JUST for the steak. It was a must that I ordered it if I was a meat lover.
I was totally not impressed.... the steak it's self was just ok and the frites that came with it were overdone and plain. I would have preferred something a little lighter but then again for $28 for a 3 course meal you kind of want your money worth,
I had the 3 cheese dip which stuffed me right at the get go. I didn't even have enough room for my steak.
Dessert was a pear soaked in red wine with a cream sauce which I absolutely enjoyed.
I overheard a woman at the next table approving the "new menu" - so I'm assuming people were not overwhelmed here before and they had to up their game.
For the money you pay you don't go away hungry. I couldn't eat anything else for the rest of the day.
2 people which included a glass of wine and a caesar - it came to $80.23 and then you add your tip.
I might try this place again and try for a lighter option but then that would be it.
I don't think their food is that great to keep coming back.
I'd rather use the money for another treatment at the spa :)1 Previous Review: Show all »

This is based on two massages totaling $400+.
Pros:
Like the locker room (fancy locks and design) and soak tub located in locker room
I love the comfy robes and slippers (complementary)
Helpful staff
Meditation library
Access to a pool and sauna at no extra charge
Restaurant on site
If you get the right massage its great (some even too great in terms of the amount of pain you may have afterwards)
Cons
Super duper expensive for the average person--you would need a really great job, expense account, and/or health plan to visit there regularly throughout the year.
The massage descriptions aren't that clear from their website. I had the Aboriginal inspired spa first since it was supposed to restore balance (it didn't) and then I had a deep massage (that left me a little sore but thank goodness they had the sauna there to even me out).
Some people like to use the shared services nude and when people sit on public seating nude its super gross), even with a towel---towels slip!
Overall I think its a nice gem in the heart of Toronto and I would recommend it to others. -

Great location, right in the middle of Downtown...great ambience and really friendly staff.
The layout of the spa was confusing though and we were sent to the wrong floor and wasted some massage time...tsk tsk -
Review from Jen C.
Cocooned away from the busy streets below, you can spend an afternoon at Elmwood and forget the city just outside. The feeling of luxury begins the moment you walk up the steps of this historical building and increases as you enter the lobby and get checked in.
The change rooms are clean and well-maintained; the staff are courteous and helpful; and every thing just feels so luxe. It's quite the treat to visit Elmwood, and though it's not cheap, I don't feel like it's atrociously expensive either, especially given the location and quality of service.
One of the great things about Elmwood, is that depending on your treatment, you can take advantage of their water therapies area: steam room, hot tub, pools, and lounge. A fantastic way to unwind further and spend time with friends at the same time.
Recommended if you have the extra coin to spare. -
Review from Simika K.
Ok first things first - the spa is a heaven in the middle of the city. I came here for a facial, and to de-stress in their water spas. End result - fabulous skin, courtesy of a beautician who really knows her stuff. Definitely coming back. Anyway, when I saw that their hair salong prices were so reasonable ($60 for a cut!), I decided to just go for it, even though I'd just had a trim two weeks prior.
My pursuit of a good haircut is legendary among my friends. I'm dying to be loyal to that one stylist - the Chris McMillan to my inner Jennifer Aniston ( because clearly, I have gorgeous hair like hers). I used to have that in Angelo* but five years away, and I've lost track of him. I found a decent place in Makai Salon earlier, and would have stuck with the stylist there, but then I decided to take a chance on Tina who works at the Salon here at the Spa. Let's just say, Jennifer Aniston - watch out :) I might just have a better hair cut than you! :) -
Review from Jorge L.
Simply amazing.
Coming here is like an oasis just steps from the subway station.
Staff are very professional, courteous and knowledgable. Every detail is is taken into consideration and done and done perfectly starting from the check in.
Upon check in, they offer you out a hot, minty towel to wipe your sweaty, oily face. Oh I know about your sweaty face, this is Toronto, we all work very hard. Then they give you your treatment details - your therapists name, which room you're in and your locker floor.
The washroom is incredibly clean. They provide bath robes, towel and slippers to make you comfortable during your stay. Shower and go to the water therapy.
Close your eyes by the pool to listen to suiting music or dip in the salted pool. The choice is yours.
If you're with a group, the jacuzzi is a fun place to stay for a bit. Heck, go there even you're by yourself :). Yeah know.
There's a steam room in the water therapy section and inside the shower area - doesn't matter where you'll access it... make sure you go there after the treatment... it's sooo relaxing. Did I mention that it's clean?
Whatever you choose to do before or after your treatment make sure you grab a (complimentary) tea, apple or flavored water.
But a spa will not survive without great therapists - Elmwood has EXCELLENT line up of therapists. Really concerned for your health and not just your wallet.
Ah... now writing this review makes me want to book an appointment.
In case you're curious, I'm not employed by Elmwood.... just really a FAN!

This is one of my favourite spas in Toronto, as they offer an array of services that pamper you, complimented by the water therapies. Its especially nice to dip in the hot tub after having a relaxing Swedish massage that eases away all the tension and stress!
I came here this past Thursday morning for a 50 min Swedish massage for $98, which is kinda pricey compared to other RMT massages I've had, but a girl can treat herself once in a while right? Since I arrived early for my appointment, I relaxed in the waiting area of the pool on the 3rd floor which felt like I was on a resort. Come appointment time, I was taken to a room that must have been adjacent to an exercise room, as I could hear their conversation and heavy breathing as the guy seemed to be lifting weights?! I requested to change to a different and quieter room, which she accommodated so I ended up on the 4th floor by their restaurant. My therapist was good, and focused on my shoulders and neck which gets strained from working in front of a computer all day.
After the massage, I enjoyed sitting in the hot tub in the women's change room and in the sauna for a bit. After taking a shower, and using their AG shampoo and conditioner, I blow dried my hair and headed out to bustling Yonge St. If you haven't gone to Elmwood yet, I highly recommend it! -
Review from Tina H.
Amazing massage with RMT Serena. My muscles felt perfectly relaxed after; I didn't want to move. She's very skilled and I'd recommend getting a massage with her. I've been to several places (Stillwater, among others I can't remember the names, in Toronto and other cities) and this was one of the best I've ever had.
The couple's room (Royal) was gorgeous and had a fireplace! Wow! It was awesome.
The facilities are pretty nice. Nothing as elaborate as Stillwater but still great. The women's change room is nice. The water therapies have a pool and 2 steam rooms, both of which weren't working properly during our stay for some reason. That's my only beef with the place.
The spa was busy but they still managed to maintain the comfortable, spa feel. Complimentary flavoured water and apples around.
Though the facilities weren't as great as Stillwater's, the massage was amazing and better than any other I've had. I've never had a massage at a spa that made me want to go there on my own time alone, but now I have! I'll be back sometime for sure.
By the way, for all you geeks out there who appreciate good technology, the health waiver is electronic, done on their touch screen computers with a signature pad (like at self-checkout). Much much faster process than filling out a form on a clipboard.
I would definitely recommend this spa. I had an amazing time the whole time I was there. Signing the waiver was quick and painless, my massage was amazing, the steam room (when it was working) was awesome, the complimentary apples and water everywhere were a nice touch, the change room was nice and had a whirlpool and everything ladies need to get ready (hair dryer, straightener, curler)... Loved everything about this place.Listed in: My "Go Back to this…

Had a great day at the spa, got a manicure and massage.
My manicure was beautiful and a week later the bright red polish still looks great. It's a little sad to get that service down in the basement but I guess that's Toronto....
The change room was lovely and fully stocked.
The hot tea was fantastic, I had to buy it for my sister when it was time to leave.
My only complaint was that we couldn't find anywhere cozy to sit and chat. -

My girlfriends and I decided to go to Elmwood for a girl's R&R. I have been there twice and both times have been good experiences.
We booked massages with Registered Massage Therapists and they said we could go early to enjoy the amenities (Lounge, whirlpool, steamroom, and pool).
When you arrive, after checkin, you go to the second floor change room and you are handed flip flops and a bathrobe. You pick your own locker and set a number combo so no key or locks are required.
Then we made our way to the third floor where the amenities are located. There is a lounge area with magazines, water, apples, steam room, whirlpool, and a pool. The large steamroom was out of order the second time i went so we were stuck in the smaller steamroom that can only accomodate 4 people if sitting upright.
So when the time came, i went to the 4th floor where my massage would be held. I was given a large room with a fireplace the second time. I had Frankie who i get along with great. I like to chat so he chatted with me while he did the massage. I told him specifically what areas i needed to be worked on and he followed my instructions.
Once my massage was done, I used the steamroom again and then it was about time to go. The locker doors seem to get stuck sometimes so the trick is you have to push them inwards as you put in your combination. Otherwise if that doesn't work, you have to find the staff to get them to unlock the door for you.
The change room is very clean and has plenty of showers, water, fresh apples, hair dryers, lotions, curlying/flattening irons, and a machine that spins your bathing suits dry. The water pressure in the showers are good.
One of the handles on the shower was broker so i had to hold it while i showered on the first visit. On the second visit my shower was fine. They provide shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the shower stalls. The lotion is great. All products provided are top quality. You just need to bring a bathing suit, any face creams/lip balms, and hair brush. They provide shower caps, q-tips, hairspray (cheap kind), razors, and shaving cream.
So overall the experience was good. Check in the first time is tedious as you need to go through a touch screen survey which takes about 20 minutes but on repeat visits, check in is fast. Check out and payment is also quick. The RMT themselves provide you with an official receipt for insurance. A 50 min. massage was $110.74 plus tip.
Its not exactly amazing in terms of the premium you get charged and that its supposed to be considered somewhat higher end. Going up and down the levels can be tedious. But given its convenient location and parking for $4.75 at Atrium on Bay next door for the whole day (you must bring your parking ticket with you to get a stamp when you checkout), and that its clean with good products, you can't really go wrong if you live downtown or want to shop at Eaton Centre afterwards. -

Can I live here?
Let me live here and get massages all day and splash around in the heated whirlpool!
Needing to use up my RMT benefits from work, I booked a deep tissue massage at Elmwood Spa.
[ 1 ] Ground Floor
------------------------
Right away you are greeted with smiles and friendliness.
You check-in, pick up a copy of your itinerary and away you go!
[ 2 ] Elevator - "Second Floor" *ding*
------------------------------------------------
The doors opened and I was greeted by the 2nd floor hostess who showed me to the change room.
I was provided with a fluffy white robe and some flip flops and a locker to store my things. There's a pretty blue whirlpool in the change room. It's busy since people want a final soak before changing into their clothes.
[ 3 ] Elevator - "Third Floor" *ding*
---------------------------------------------
The water therapy floor is probably everyone's favorite floor!
They had a large seating area with magazines for you to sit and relax.
I chilled here, drinking the orange-cranberry-lemon water and reading magazines until it was time for my massage.
[ 4 ] Elevator - "Four Floor" *ding*
----------------------------------------------
There are massage rooms on all levels of the spa complex, mine was on the fourth floor.
I've never had a real massage before. I dated a guy who said he was training to be a RMT.. anyways....
So, I've never had a real massage before and I was a bit afraid of the deep tissue massage. My masseuse was very friendly and assured me that if I were in too much pain she could let up.
I didn't realize that I could have so many muscles in knots. I really liked how they used a heating pad for you stomach and back. And yes, the massage sort of hurt, but less than extractions when you're getting a facial.
I wish the massage oil was scented, but she said you'd have to book aromatherapy.
I used to have a lot of soreness in my shoulders and neck... it's fixed now!!!! Now, I understand the benefits of getting a massage. She brought me some steaming hot green tea and I was on my way again.
[3] Elevator - "Third Floor" *ding*
--------------------------------------------
I took a quick shower, very clean facilities with an assortment of tropical smelling shampoos and soaps.
It was Wednesday afternoon and I was the only one on the 3rd level. It was great! I enjoyed the quiet and splashed around in the heated whirlpool. One day, I am going to have to have a whirlpool.
The steam room on the third floor is co-ed. I was the only one in it. It sure was hot..and steamy...as expected.
[ 1 ] Ground Floor
------------------------
And now my relaxing time at the spa came to an end.
As I checked out, the staff were still smiling and told me about the Holiday specials and packages for groups.
I had a really wonderful time here! I feel great. :D -

I have been to Elmwood on several occasions and every visit has always been tranquil - I usually don't use that word loosely so you know I'm serious. They definitely play their cards right with the serene water features and relaxing aromatherapy the moment you walk enter. The change rooms are well kept and very clean.
The massage therapist and estheticians were knowledgeable and friendly. I have sensitive skin so they knew how much pressure to apply and what kind of products to use on my skin without asking me to unfold my entire health record.
I spent some time in the common pool area, which was open and lit with natural lighting. However, on one occasion there were some teenagers doing canon balls and ruff housing in the pool. Elmwood isn't exactly a place for horseplay and I though it was inconsiderate given the fact that people were there to relax. I didn't let it phase my visit but they should be more assertive with their rules.
Their scheduling is very organized. Their different services allow you to roam all the levels of the spa.
The lunch menu I had from Bangkok Garden was alright. It was the right amount to keep you lifted. The last think you need is a heavy meal at a spa.
You walk around in a comfy robe. What's not to love? I recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing time in the busy city. -

This place is definetly the sort of spa you go with your girlfriends, you literally can hang out there all day because its so nice and relaxing. I visit about 7-10 different spas every year... and always end up coming back to Elmwood several times a year. Don't contact them via email, you'll never get ahold of anyone in any sort of timely manner but you can always call them to make an appointment. Once you're there the service is terrific, you're treated like a princess. The food at the Terrance is amazing, and the pools are great too. It's my favourite spa in the city. I had a pregnancy massage at Elmwood and it's certainly the best pregnancy massage in the city. At Stillwater they ask you to lie face down on a donut for your belly to fall through, a little unsettling but at Elmwood they had me lie on my side for the massage and then the massage table reclined to 35 degrees for the rest of the massage (all pregnant women know the weight from your belly when you lie on your back is very uncomfortable) so when you are on an angle it relieves the pressure. Their other massages are amazing too.

I went to the Elmwood for the first time yesterday and I was not disappointed. The offering of a hot or cool towel upon arrival was a definite bonus. Check-in was efficient. A printed itinerary is provided with a list of services and locations within the spa (what floor to go to, which room, name of massage therapist, etc.). I found each and every staff member friendly and helpful. Ladies' change room is spacious and all you need is provided (robe, flip flops, towels, shampoo, etc.). Even a dryer for your bathing suit!
My massage was fantastic! Lester used a lot of pressure (exactly what I asked for) and I felt that it was the best massage I've ever had. I hate wimpy pressure that doesn't massage anything but the surface of your skin. Pointless. This was serious deep-tissue, muscle-relaxing technique.
Afterwards, I had lunch on the terrace. The poached salmon salad was a nice start. I'm sure the server saw my eyes widen as she set down my entree. It was HUGE! I always feel bad not finishing food, but when the plate came with a heaping mound of fries and a massive steak topped with corn, I almost forgot I was at a spa, rather at a BBQ cookhouse. Anyways, I ate what I could and waved my white napkin-flag. For dessert, a small ramekin of chocolate mousse topped with a single raspberry and drizzled with raspberry sauce (coulis?). That was a reasonable portion size (which I still couldn't finish).
After lounging around with some magazines, I decided to make use of the facilities and used the jacuzzi and one of the steam rooms. There were only a few people in the water therapies area.
Since I used a birthday certificate for my lunch, it was complimentary! Anyone can get it off the Elmwood Spa website. It just has to be used within a few days of your actual birthday. After paying and settling gratuities, I received another "gift" voucher for $25 off my next service at the spa and a voucher for a complimentary dinner at Bangkok Garden (valued at $20, located right next door to the spa).
I didn't give the Elmwood five stars because some of the spaces need updating. I sat in the waiting area for the massage rooms on the second floor. I think the chairs are at least 15 years old. Also, some of the showers and even the jacuzzi in the water therapies area could probably be re-tiled or re-grouted.
However, overall, the space and ambiance is like a mini-vacation in the downtown core. You could easily spend a day there to get away from it all. -
Review from Teena D.
My husband and my tradition for birthdays is to take each other to a spa to celebrate. Since Gord's birthday was Thursday, we went to the Elmwood Spa this afternoon.
First up were water therapies ... spending time in the pool and the hot tub. Then we had an 80 minute couples massage. My bed was by the fireplace. Andre gave me a wicked massage ... he found so many places that were sore. Ouch! I'd never had an 80 minute massage (I'd had a 60 minute massage max) and it was heavenly.
Then we had a deluxe pedicure. We were so relaxed with the our legs wrapped with lotion and our feet wrapped with hot paraffin wax.
We had a couple glasses of wine at the bar in the reception area. That's kind of weird ... the bar should be elsewhere.
The staff was always present and very friendly.
Definitely a relaxing fun afternoon! -

A beautiful spa in an old building. The massage therapists are very high quality and I enjoy the pools.
Note: I have had bad experiences with the nail lounge in the basement. A - who puts a nail lounge in a basement? It's dark, its got no receptionist so you just wait there not knowing if they're coming for you and they overbook the technicians so you feel like you're put through a meat processor. The last time I was there I was actually cut by the technician and bleeding, she didn't put on my flip flops and I was in pain for days. Granted my complaint to the check out ladies yielded no fee for the service but I also asked that the manager call me which they didn't. I didn't get to speak to the manager while I was there because he was dealing with two other people in front of me who had similar experiences. I'm not just criticizing the technician, I really feel the nail lounge is consistently overbooked and the quality suffers - not to mention these poor ladies work in the dark.
But all this shouldn't overshadow what is otherwise a beautiful spa. -

I used to work at a spa, that i can not name ( hint-second largest in Ontario) and as immaculate as it was its holds no grounds when it comes to Elmwood. The service is better, the environment is set up perfectly, and the added services are super key.
My massage therapist was AMAZING. She gave me the best massage of my life. Her name was Monica and def recommended her to anyone who is thinking of getting a massage :)
No services are done on the same floor as reception which is key. You dont hear the hussle and bussel of people coming in and out. There are a few floors. Each have different services and amenities. They have co-ed areas as well which is really key if your going with you bf. Spas aren't just for women. You receive a cozy robe and flip flops which i absolutely loved. There is a jacuzzi, steam room, shower, lockers, bar area, lounge and pool. This place is it. My BF sent me there for my Birthday and it was just incredible. They have a restaurant which was so good. The servers were really nice and called me by name which made me feel welcome considering i was alone after a long night of drinking. I needed it. The restaurant has a terrace but obviously not open in the winter. Every moment I had there was serene, calming, and utterly relaxing! -

I love the Elmwood! I have been a couple of times, but on both instances, I have truly enjoyed my experiences.
The first time, I did a full day experience, with a mani/pedi, facial and 50 min massage with lunch. It was very organized and all of the staff were very helpful / eager to please. The girl that did my mani/pedi was very professional and took the time to ensure that I was happy with the french that she did.. The facial was long! I fell asleep.. I didn't get a reaction to the products and the esthetician was very professional - explained everything, step by step. The hot-stone massage was one of the best ever!! It was so relaxing and I left rejuvenated. I enjoyed the water therapies and quiet rooms.. For lunch, I had poached salmon - it was nice and light.. The veggies were fresh and healthy..
The second time, I went for a massage only - I was able to use my RMT insurance coverage, which was a bonus. I then utilized the water therapies - nice relaxing day with a girlfriend. The RMT (think his name was Michael) was very professional and good at feeling the tense areas. He put the right amount of pressure where it was needed.
I think I'll be due for my next massage in a few months. Great place to go and spend your insurance RMT coverage. -

Pros: Parking is validated at a nearby lot! The staff is really helpful in getting you signed in and on your way. There are staff everywhere you turn to help you get to where you are going. The quiet room really is quiet and is stocked with magazines. They have a juice bar. The water therapy areas are quite nice and totally worth coming early for. My prenatal massage was wonderful!!! There is a hot tub and saugan and plenty of drinking water in the change rooms.
Cons: The relaxation areas are all coed, so keep your knickers on while wearing those robes!! The change rooms are reminiscent of a gym because there are multiple shower areas all in a row with shower curtains. You get heated towels though :) The changing area is tight and there are a lot of people here at any given time!! -

This is, by far, my favourite place in Toronto. Its rare that I will set aside the time and money for a full day at Elmwood, but when I do, I am in heaven.
I have received excellent service here and I have zero complaints. One thing you need to be aware of is that you need to be here on time, and preferably 15 minutes early to "check in" and get comfortable. In my case, I like coming early to read a book, use the whirlpool/pool, and have some refreshments. If you show up late, you services WILL be cut short.
I love the building - it is set up so nicely, and different services occur on each floor. Often, when you get off the elevator there is someone waiting for you with a hot tea, ready to guide you to your next treatment.
Writing about this is making me sad that I'm not there right now. -

What a treat it was when my daughter and I spent the day there. We had gift certificates and it was wonderful to be pampered and treated.
No complaints at all except that I wish I could have stayed longer! -

So what do you do when you've been laid off from your job and have all this benefits money that needs to be spent? You grab your buddy and head to a spa. This was my introduction to the Elmwood spa. My buddy and I had money to burn so figured a day at the spa on our former employer's benefits plan's dime couldn't hurt. So, Spa-ward ho.
This was my first time ever at a spa, let alone getting a professional massage and I appeared pretty green. The staff, God love 'em, weren't bothered with my ignorance and we sauntered off to the change rooms. It's a multi-level complex with an aqua-therapy stations (you and I know that as a "pool") and several different massage rooms and manicure/pedicure stations. It's all about relaxing and this place has that down.
The change rooms, clean and spacious, also come equipped with a small lounge and a TV. The men's had the sports channel on, so I'll guess the ladies' has a non-stop loop of "The View". Hey, if they can stereotype...
The massage rooms are quaint and promote relaxation, the masseuse was fantastic, and the only better way to cap it off was some aqua-therapy, both the regular lap pool and whirlpool kind. I sat so relaxed at the edge of the pool I almost spilt my lemon-infused natural spring water all over my soft and luxurious terrycloth housecoat. -

I have been to this spa on more than one occasion and I love it. Everything from the moment you walk in is well organized and relaxing. The last time I was there I also tried the restaurant on the 4th floor (bought a package), how nice it is to eat lunch in your robe!!! Loved it! Check their website for monthly deals because every now and then they have a really good one and this spa is definitely worth the price :D

I know most people see spas as more a chick thing but I have been coming here for years and this place is fantastic! Two years ago they renovated the entire place and it looks great.
Our usual is an early morning couples massage (I recommend to request a registered massage therapist (RMT) for those that have benefits. They will give you an official receipt and your insurance may reimburse you for these. Next is a little R&R in "water therapies," which just means access to their pool / hot tub / sauna on the 3rd floor.
Finally, finish it off with lunch on their rooftop patio. Lunch consists of a 3 course meal with 3 or 4 different options for each course. The food is fantastic and the new chef's champagne gazpacho is excellent.Listed in: A five star tour..., Anniversary date

I went here last month to celebrate my birthday and my friend's birthday. My friend had never had a massage before and was a little wary of it (oh men!). However I assured him that once he went Elmwood, he would never go back.
The massage was exactly what I needed. We were able to get our massages in the same room. My massage therapist had me making orgasmic noises, according to my friend. And I heard a couple snores escape from his side of the room.
As soon as we were done, he asked, "so when do you wanna come back?" I think he's hooked.Listed in: Cold as Ice!, Man, I feel like a Woman!, Thunderstorms? Pshaw!

I've been a faithful Elmwood client since 2003 (before their amazing renovation). What keeps me coming back? Unlike many spas in the city these guys are a true day spa and the R&R begins the second you walk in from their beautiful reception area, super friendly staff and inviting atmosphere.
As a tradition, hubby and I make sure to reserve couples messages and lunches for our anniversary. Spa etiquette states you should arrive 15 minutes late... sadly we did not, but the lady at the front desk was very understanding and sent me upstairs with a "late arrival package" so I could get changed in the message room instead of the change room.
Speaking of the change room it's WONDERFUL! The private sauna, hot tub, bathing suit drying and "rain" shower made this place a main sanctuary for the 4 hours I was there.
The couples massage was great. I had fallen and hurt my shoulder badly a few days prior, and my RMT was super accommodating.
The lunch is possibly my favourite part of the Elmwood...you get to sit indoors or on the rooftop terrace in your bathrobe! I ordered the Steak & Frite. It's a thinner cut than I am used to so I always order it one temperature lower than usual (I like medium so I ordered medium rare and it was a perfect medium).
See you next year Elmwood... I wish I could visit you everyday! -

I spent an afternoon at Elmwood, and left feeling relaxed but not 'wowed', it was just ok.
I found it very odd that the whirlpool in the women's change room is right smack in the centre of it, so others are getting changed, blow drying their hair, etc. as some are trying to relax in the whirlpool. To me, its awkward for both parties.
I had a massage, and it was great, but the room was quite outdated decor-wise and quite small.
The shower stalls are quite nice, and I nice surprise was the AG shampoo and conditioner, I know its the small things that matter I guess!
Overall the service I booked and received was great, but overall I wasn't super impressed with the experience as a whole. I'd give it two stars, but that wouldn't be far to the great massage therapist I had.
I'd go again if a friend asked me to join them, but I'm not left with the overwhelming desire to rush back. -

Courtesy of a Christmas gift, Elmwood spa was on my agenda this past Saturday. The common facilities were extremely overcrowded and did not facilitate the tranquil ambiance associated with a spa. The L-shaped half lockers in the change room were the most inefficient design for storage I have ever encountered. However, the staff was friendly and helpful and the esthetician was knowledgeable regarding the treatments and products. Services experienced were a facial and body wrap, both very relaxing and enjoyable. Overall, the personalized services somewhat justify their prices.

I came here for a "Sun Glow" treatment and left expecting my tan to show up soon/the next day, but it never did! So I was disappointed with my service. That said, the spa really is nice, service is smiling/friendly, and I loved the complimentary tea and apples. I'd come again, but not for a body treatment... probably for a massage!

I *heart* Elmwood! I clued in to this spa paradise years ago through a gift and I've loved it ever since. It's not inexpensive, but it's definitely the best value in town. In addition to the booked services, access to the 'water therapies' are included for free! This includes a swimming pool, whirlpool, wet saunas and a whirlpool inside the women's change room. I can, and do, enjoy the spa for hours. Get there much earlier than your appointment time to enjoy the freebies and stay behind afterward to lounge and munch on their plentiful gala apples and drink the soothing teas!

i guess it is what it is.. a big scale spa...can't really go wrong but something about being in a big place make me feel little uneasy... and I'm a little germaphobe so swimming or Jacuzzi wasn't an option for me..
but massage was great great great! -

I've been to this spa twice before in the past, both times for massages and they were fine. Nothing spectacular but the service was timely and catered to my individual needs. However, the third time I went, I left feeling more tense than I had prior to going in. I had booked a spa retreat for my aunt and my mother which consisted of a facial, pedicure and manicure. Separately I was going to get a pedicure. First off, according to my mother and aunt the facial was fabulous, the disaster didn't begin until we had to get our pedis & manis.
The three ladies that did our pedicures were great, no complaints there but while having my cuticles removed, I got cut. Then came polish selection time. You would think being a spa which offers manicures and pedicures Every Single Polish that the three of us asked for wouldn't be unavailable. Combined, the three of us must have asked for roughly 10 nail polishes, none of which they had in stock. Then when it came time for my mother's manicure they informed us they didn't have the tools to remove a shellac mani, so they couldn't complete her package. Instead they were going to give us the value of the manicure and put it on to a gift card. Since this was a package deal, the gift card option wouldn't even allow her to go back on another day to receive the same service, as it was valued less.
To top things off, we finished our appointment at 4:51 pm and were told we needed to vacate the spa by 5 pm because they were having an art show that evening. Now I'm aware they are more than entitled to hosting events at this spot, however you should probably tell your clients upon booking. Instead of being granted the opportunity to shower, use the water therapies, or whirlpool we felt like we were being ushered out of the place.
Suffice it to say the ambience of this place is fantastic, the staff are friendly but with these minor hiccups of my last visit I'm reluctant to head back, especially when there are many other "urban retreats" Toronto has to offer. -

My mother took me to elmwood for my bday. We bought a package that incl a swedish massage, 3 course lunch, facial and mani/pedi. The total came to about 695 or so for two. I was not that impressed with the massage. It was only o.k. The facial was alright and so was the mani and pedi. The "water therapies" is just a pool and hot tub.
I have been to a lot of spa retreats and been pampered in many different places around the world. I may just have different standards but I thought that for the price we paid, everything was only o.k. I expected more. I have received much better massages and facials elsewhere (e.g., China, Malaysia and Thailand). But like I said I may just be spoiled by now and North American standards just aren't measuring up.
I'm not sure if I would return here. I think I can get similar spa experiences for cheaper in Toronto. I will say that the decor is alright and I had a pleasant and relaxing day. -

The worst service I have ever had at a spa. I was asked to arrive for my appointment 15 minutes early. I did this, and it was almost an hour before I was seen. The person was going through "personal issues", which I got to hear all about and had a poor, unprofessional attitude the entire service. To top it off, I got home and realized I was charged for the wrong service (overcharged at that). I wrote a letter to the manager and a month later, never heard anything back.
