I am so lucky to have Elm as my friendly neighbourhood coffee shop!  Great food, drinks and service.

The food:  OMG NOMS!  The sandwiches are delicious and HUGE!  There are two choices (warm and cold) for sandwiches at both breakfast and lunch.  Nate (the owner) tweets the sandwiches everyday so you can check if you're into them before heading over.

Elm also makes fresh muffins every morning that are drool worthy.  I often get there just as the muffins are coming out of the oven and Nate makes sure to warn me not to eat them while driving because I'll burn myself - MacDonald's take note: this is how you avoid crazy lawsuits!

Drinks:  I actually didn't like lattes all that much until I started going to Elm.  While Elm doesn't offer a lot of different flavours, they make up for it by making their own  vanilla syrup (I think).  They also have great sodas and make their own hot chocolate!

Prices are equivalent to Starbucks but quality is much better!  Service is friendly and fast.  Great atmosphere - makes me wish there was more seating available!

I stopped here because I was in the neighbourhood, and I heard Elm was a pretty good coffee spot. I was a little surprised at how small the cafe is. There were a couple tables outside, and some seats at the window, but that was it. Elm Cafe doesn't really seem like the best option for me to sit down, have a coffee and "study" for school. It's a grab and go place, and that's okay.

I grabbed a coffee to go, an Americano. They use 49th Parallel coffee, which I do enjoy. The service was friendly, and the coffee was good and strong. The lunch menu at Elm Cafe always sounds pretty good, but I was there well after lunch. One day I'll have to remember to come by a little earlier and try one of their sandwiches.

Perhaps the best coffee in Edmonton.  I go out of my way on weekends to get my caffeine here.

The menu includes 2 options for breakfast, 2 sandwiches for lunch plus soup and muffins.  I've tried a few of the sandwiches and a muffin, and now get Elm-sandwich cravings.

Parking is limited, but on weekends you can take your chances in the private lot adjacent to the building.  Worth it.

Seating is also limited to a few spots on the window bar, and a couple tables outside.  Eat in your car or take it home if thee isn't a spot for you, the food is terrific.

This is one of my favourite places.

This is a great cafe.  The coffee is good (they serve 49th parallel from Vancouver) , but what I go for is the eats.  It is always something different and interesting.

Nate the chef that runs the cafe is creative and pushes the limits on the food.  I really enjoy their parfaits, baking and breakfast sandwiches.

They space is nicely put together although it is small, and the few seats available are nice but they fill up quickly.  This is a great space and I love it.

This is a to-go coffee place.

Elm Cafe may be a small shop, but what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in quality and outstanding service.

Owner Nathan Box can be frequently seen behind the counter slinging coffee drinks -- make with 49th Parallel beans, which at the time of this writing, are exclusive to Elm in Edmonton. I frequently order a large latte from Elm, and am consistently impressed with how fantastic it is. Come to Elm and you'll experience one of the very best lattes in the city.

Beyond coffee drinks, Elm also has a frequently-changing menu of breakfast and lunch sandwiches. They change frequently because Box uses nothing by fresh ingredients from local food suppliers. But the food creations at Elm are to die for, and the ever-changing menu is refreshing.

If you'll looking for a quick drink or a great meal and you haven't checked out elm yet, you are truly missing out on one of this city's great cafes.

How good is Elm Cafe? The Second Cup around the corner has since shut down.

What can I say? People love local, fresh food, amazing coffee, and wonderful, friendly service. What's for breakfast/lunch? Check out @elmcafe's latest tweet. Then head on down to see Nate and grab a muffin, sandwich, and a coffee.

I've had their Americanos, 49th Parallel coffee, and delicious tea and haven't had a bad experience yet.

And the man behind elm cafe, Nathan, is a treat in himself! He's always got something interesting on the go, and he knows some real characters. Stop by for a chat, drink, and a sandwich - and give him kudos for waking up so early to provide us with a great local cafe in downtown Edmonton.

Oh, and just a tip? The tuna/curry sandwich is the best sandwich you'll ever have. Seriously. Try it, and when your tastebuds thank you - don't forget to give me props.

Finally I made my way to Elm Cafe! They post their delicious creations on twitter (@elmcafe), and I'd been meaning to stop by.

Although the breakfast wrap options were tempting, I wasn't too hungry, so I ordered a peach-apple muffin since I don't often bake with peaches at home, and it was great! A good-sized muffin, so I had half then and saved half for later. Also grabbed a small cappuccino - perfect size, tasty and with coffee art.

There isn't a lot of space inside the cafe, about 4-5 bar stools, so I could see it getting crowded in busy hours. The woman at the counter was friendly. The other patrons were, too - when strangers are relaxed chatting with each other, I feel like I fit into the atmosphere of a venue.

    I'll be back for sure!

A tiny, tiny cafe that outputs an enormous energy and killer product and service! I have recently dropped coffee from my diet. It's killing me but my body thanks me. So what the heck am I reveiwing a cafe for? It's creativity and stellar attention to quality food and local sourcing!

This past weekend I was lucky enough to be involved in the TEDX Edmonton event. It was a long and inspiring day. Lunch time approached and we were all amazed at what awaited us at the top of the stairs in the Citadel up from the Rice Theatre! 49 hand-crafted wooden boxes arranged to spell "Awesome food goes in. Awesome Ideas come out." We were encouraged to forms groups of 6, grab a box, and park ourselves for a picnic.

What was inside these boxes? Each box contained 6 sandwiches, dessert, salad and drinks. These were not regular lunch items. The salad was a veggie qunioa salad, the sandwiches ranged from BLT, Turkey, Cubano, roeast beef and veggie.

I'm a veggie so I opted for this sandwich. It was amazing! The main star was pan fried apples!

Also included in this box was a package of seeds. The bottom of the box on the inside was stamped with a message about the importance of eaty healthy, local, and creative yummy food!

Imagine making all this glorious food AND 49 wooden boxes! What a treat!

We had some left overs after the event. I scored some sandwiches for my dad and husband. My husband is a meat eater and ate and fell in love with the veggie sandwiches!

Beautiful local concept. Love affair with artisan food and a great big warm heart and socially conscious mind!

I'm pleased to say that I tried the Elm Cafe Catering!

The sandwiches were amazing and the bread was so fresh. I loved the muffins and can finally understand what all the hype is about.

I had both a BLT and a vegetarian and I found the vegetarian most flavourful and packed with some delicious spice and tasty vegees.

I would definitely order from them again and the table was most pleased with the order too. Can't speak to the coffee as I just had a water.

Have been to Elms just three times but I love the coffee they serve on drip here.  It's the 49th parallel roaster's coffee which is pretty unique and flavorful.  A great change from say, a Transcend go-er since they get beans from various parts of the world - Guatemala, Columbia and parts of Africa as well.  It's a really small cafe with place for 4-6 people to sit, but with great functionality.

They have fresh baked muffins on a daily basis and often times different from the previous day.  I've also had an awesome breakfast sandwich here once.  Don't remember the ingredients but it was really tasty.  The breakfast sandwiches and muffins change on a regular basis so it's always a welcoming and courageous experience to blindly pick up their sandwich and a cup of their coffee on the go!

Locally sourced ingredients, adding to the charm of local produce that's getting ever more ubiquitous among new cafes on the north-side of Edmonton.  Please, if you live in this part of time, treat yourself with a great cup of coffee en route to work.

I really love what Nate has done with this tiny space. I've enjoyed every soup and sandwich I've tried and admire the fact that despite the daily changes in options, the quality is always high. Elm serves 49th Parallel coffee and they do an excellent job pulling Epic espresso.

Bold and flavourful coffee in an urbane yet tree-filled setting. Seating is severely limited, though, so getting a seat is a matter of luck. Exquisite sandwiches; the "early" sandwich (breakfast sandwich) features an ever-changing suite of ingredients and puts fast food brekkie sandwiches to shame.

I love Elm Cafe. I was so excited when it opened. No more Second Cup for this girl! Their coffee is great, the sandwiches are delicious, the muffins are tasty, the service is friendly. I highly recommend it. My only issue with the place is that it's basically take-out only, with hardly any seating. It's not really a problem in the summer, but hopefully things still work out for them come winter time.

Also, the chicken and waffle sandwich is absolutely incredible.

Elm Cafe is really close to where I live and my wife and I have been anxiously anticipating the opening. The owner and operator Nathan Box ( @nathanbox on Twitter ) is a friendly guy and always seems up for a chat with customers.

Beans are from 49th Parallel @49thparallel in Vancouver - according to my wife, the espresso is fantastic. I usually go for the brewed coffee and the two I've tried - the BURUNDI KIBINGO and the COLOMBIA FINCA LAS BRISAS are both very tasty. Staff are being trained by Sammy Piccolo  (@SammyPiccolo), one of the top baristas in Canada.

The fresh muffins every morning are from Duchess Bakery on 124th. We also recently tried one of the breakfast sandwiches and it definitely did not disappoint.

Local, high quality ingredients and great service. It's going to cost you a bit more than McDonald's or Timmie's but the quality is definitely worth it.

Elm Cafe serves incredibly fresh coffee, salads, and sandwiches. The iced latte I had was smooth and refreshing. Although I was tempted by a muffin, I resisted - they looked freshly-baked. This cafe is very small with little seating (a couple of stools by the window), so it's really a take-out place. But definitely go for the coffee - the espresso drinks are incredible.
