My friend Simon very generously shared his tickets to the first home game of the Winnipeg Jets with me! Before the game, we were looking for a place to grab some lunch and a quick pint. Recognizing the E & C brand, we thought, this should be OK.

It was more than OK, it was actually a pretty good pub! Excellent, very friendly service, reasonably priced pints, and excellently seasoned and battered fish and chips. Of course, E&C isn't authentic -- but if you want a decent English "style" pub in downtown Winnipeg, you can't go wrong with this one.

I conducted three seminars this morning back-to-back-to-back and then conducted 15 minute one-on-ones all afternoon.

I was exhausted when I got back to my room (about 6pm) and was tempted to order room service.  I decided to go out for supper instead at the Elephant & Castle ... it is in the ground floor of the Delta Hotel on St. Mary Street.

Nothing on the menu appealled to me so I ordered the New York Strip Steak, medium-well.  I didn't want any veggies or mushrooms so they gave me extra mashed potatoes ... there were a lot of potatoes!  The potatoes were really good but I couldn't eat them all.  The steak was overwell-done and charred in places ... it was dry inside and not very juicy.

Nadine was my server . She was very friendly and she took care of me.

This is an English-style pub located in the Delta Hotel.

I came here for dinner after a day at the office.

I ordered the fish and chips. I think the quality of the fish was fine. However, the poor filet was over-cooked in the fryer. It was almost as hard as a hockey puck.

Additionally, I had a side of salad greens. And it was absolutely swimming in a dressing that was cloyingly sweet.

On the plus side, the Guinness was fine.

I'm on the fence as to whether I would return. I want to give it another chance since the waitress was nice. But the food wasn't encouraging.

I spent two weeks at the Delta Hotel and naturally ate at the Elephant and Castle quite often. Truthfully I had no idea this was a chain until I went to Toronto. It also turns out we have one in Vancouver -- actually the first Elephant and Castle in North America...

Of three, this place had the best food. The Toronto location focused on hiring attractive servers, and the Vancouver location built more upscale and also went with the attractive servers. Not to say the servers weren't attractive, but did not go to extraordinary lengths to hire eye candy.

They've done a good job at creating a menu with as many stereo typical UK options: fish and chips, Shepherd's pie, Guinness any way you like it, generic Indian curry, burgers up the wazoo.

Aside from the various UK central dishes, this place has all the same choices as any Cactus Club or Earls: quesadilla, Thai chicken salad, calamari, stir-fry, etc.

Not every place has the same menu but generally they've done their best to infuse as many North American popular dishes into their menu making it a likely place anyone will find at least one dish they like.

You can specially ask for beer batter chicken strips which are insanely good. I'd never heard of this before until I got there and a friend of mine said you have to try it.

The cliental consistently at all three places have been middle aged business and reaffirms my perception of this place as being very middle of the road in taste, price, and service.

The Delta has a taxi lineup out front and during the closing hours drunken photos with the landmark red phone-booth outside on the way to the cab is a common sight.

I found this place on a search for ANYTHING that was open on a Canadian holiday (don't ask me which one, I'm not from Canada).  It's connected to a hotel and it's pretty much a standard British style pub.  Hell, it's even named after an area in London, England.

We mainly came for the food and to have a few pints.  I went with the Shepard's Pie and it was quite delicious.   My friend went with a burger.  Both choices were decent portions and very tasty.

The beer list is pretty good too.  I had a few Smithwick's and a Guinness.  The Guinness was poured perfectly.  Excellent choice.  Another buddy of our's showed up and had a black and tan.  Also expertly poured.

Overall not a bad place for above average pub food and good beers.  Our server was also really really nice.

    Thumbs up from the USA!

On the main floor of Winnipeg's Delta Hotel, the Elephant and Castle is land-marked by an unmistakable red phone box out front.

The atmosphere is more pastiche of a pub, and seating is rather limited, but the menu does a fine job representing UK staples. Booze infused highlights are the Guinness braised Meatloaf and Jameson's Chicken with mushroom cream sauce.

Guinness, Smithwicks and Kilkenny all on tap with decent selection of other domestic and import.

Its a wanna-be British Pub, without a a true IPA.
    We had black and Tans...yummy.
Chicken Pot Pie was a winner
The steak sandwich had no top bread or even sides...it was lame
Fish and chips were huge and of mediocre quality.
The waitress was a hottie with a naughty body, fer-sure

Good spot to catch friend and meet up.  Great brews.  Easy environment, and both street side and in nearby lots.
