I had high hopes for this establishment after I hungrily walked by the happy people inside many a times.
But when I did go in with a group of 4 friends, the service and atmosphere weren't anything special. The food was decent, about par for bar food. The servers are slow (both literally and figuratively), and the usual buzz that marks a great pub or bar is missing. Can't put a finger on what it was, but that atmosphere wasn't there.
Perhaps its a sign that bars/pubs in shopping centre's are not a good combination. Try the classic burger combination if you're hungry; the chicken wings are alright as well, though not as spicy as I anticipated. -

My experience here was tainted by the obnoxious drunk Russian who kept trying to hassle me after my food (the roast beef stuffed Yorkshire pudding) arrived.
I normally sit at the bar to eat. Russian dude next to me (I'll call him Vladmir) decides to strike up a conversation while I wait for my beer to be poured. I am normally as approchable as a Midieval torture device heated to 1000 degrees, but I just had a good workout and wasn't in the mood to give the 'shove off' to anyone. Just yet.
Long story short- the food wasn't that good (the yorkshire was very tough and doughy, when it should have been lighter and less 'bready'). The beef inside was very dry despite the salty gravy, and not spiced all that well to boot.
The saving grace was the beer and the bartender, who offered to 'take care' of 'Vladmir' if he was being too obnoxious.
Once the food did arrive, "Vladmir' kept trying to get information out of me, asking where I was from, why I was here, how my company was doing, where my parents were from, my age, my LDL cholesterol level, you name it. I finally turned to him and said, "I don't want to be rude, but I came here to eat and now my food is here.'
"Vladmir' got the most indignant look on his face like I shat in his mother's mouth, hunkered up his shoulders and turned away from me for the rest of the night. I GOT THE COLD SHOULDER for trying to be polite when I could have just told him to stuff his vodka shots where the sun don't shine. See if I'm ever that nice to anther sad, overweight, balding lonely drunk Russian again!
Sorry bartender, I forgot your name, but thank you for keeping an eye out for this young lady and we could certainly use more guys like you in the world. You were the saving grace to this place. The food sucked but that's not your fault. Perhaps the fish and chips are really good, but it's hard to hold a candle to the F&C at Kensington Circus pub. -

The Elephant and Castle is a good alternative restaurant in the Rideau Centre, which otherwise only offers food courts. However, perhaps because of their great location, the Elephant and Castle doesn't go out of their way to offer great food or service. I've never had a particularly bad experience here, but nothing too memorable either. It's an okay place to go, but I would highly suggest you take your grumbling tummy to one of the better restaurants in the ByWard Market.

I'll give it a 1 for the food...standard pub fare, decent. The service was god awful, the worst I have EVER dealt with. So we ask to order a couple pitchers of beer...an import..."No, we don't serve pitchers of imported beer...just domestic"...WTF is that all about???Can I have 1/2 onion rings, /2 fries with my burger? "No." I'll pay extra. "No". Besides being a bad server he was straight up an ass. We called the manager over and he basically blew it off. This particular bar in this chain needs a serious overhaul, I would never return.

I actually like this restaurant situated in a great location. It's best for the fish 'n chips and the service is usually good when it's not too busy.
