I did give this place a good review but it's one of those places that so busy it implodes on itself and lately they have just been off the ball.Last time I ate there the lady serving us seemed so uninterested with us and totally was not paying attention to our table. Not enough staff and really long wait time when you eat there and every time I order delivery, despite giving great tips, they ALWAYS forget the salad and beans. This has happened about 3 times now. Lucky for them they deliver quickly and my fish is, most of the time, delicious, but my boyfriend on the other hand gets the sirloin steak and it always comes greasy and full of fat. One time it was just too disgusting to eat. We tried to get him some chicken instead and that was also overcooked and dry.
I really want to like this place but I feel like it's just so damn busy all the time that they don't pay attention to detail. I'm a faithful customer who orders alot and they still fucking up my order. Really El Rey? Get it together! I'll be trying another Spanish place. There's gotta be another in East NY!1 Previous Review: Show all »

- Much like my Peruvian place: http://www.yelp.com/bi... , this place is a little gem hidden among the Brooklyn realm.
- It's no secret that I love Italian Food, but I also really like Spanish cuisine as well. Let me tell you, this place doesn't get well deserved high stars from other reviewers for nothing.
- As a frequenter, I love their rotisserie & baked chickens, as well as their Spanish stews. They make great tasting steak-strips as well. Their beans & rice are good, and their portions+prices are phenomenal![*]
- The vibe here is a cross between modern diner and casual (but classy) Spanish town restaurant. I just love this place so much!
- The staff is very quick, efficient, and friendly. They see A LOT of foot traffic through this place, no matter the time of day. Always a great sign of great food.

[*] In-short: Almost whatever you order from here will be good. Just last night I had the baked chicken & cassava (some of you know it as yuca), with stew sauce over it...and my fav: sweet plantains.
How was it? Phenomenally good! Much like your time here will be, no doubt. :-)Listed in: My NYC Stars

Basically very good dominican/general spanish food. Diffenitly the best in all surrounding neighborhoods. So much so, a 3-4 time a week spot for me and my family. Great prices for very good tasting food. I mean if you want the best go to somebody's grandmothers house. But in terms of typical domnican it is very good. Things like pernil, chuletas, bistec salteado, even just there rotisserie chicken is very good. They even have good breakfast and a morir sonando.
I only gave it 4 stars because I eat here so often they can get sloppy with simple things like stale tostones and dry chicken. But it happens.
The biggest pluses are once you become a regular they are very friendly. The serving girls aren't bad to look at either. The menu is much bigger then most spanish places.
Already a staple in my life because I'v been going almost sinced it opened and way before they even fixed up the joint.
Again dont bother looking around for better spanish food. I can go on forever on this place but I'll keep it simple since it's a simple place. -

This restaurant is awesome. Really good food for a awesome price. The food is always fresh. My wife and I always go to this restaurant for lunch or brunch. I always get the porkchops and black beans and rice. The prices here are cheap. The restaurtant is always clean and nice looking. So I give El Rey II 4 stars. My wife and I love this place.

I dedicate this review to my sister. This is our neighborhood. Raised here and if you have ever been on "city line", you have been to this spot to eat. Since the beginning of time this has always been a spanish resteraunt with several different owners and with time, the food got better and better. Currently they are El Rey and the food is excellent. It is clean and you can go here anytime for a sit down meal or take out. The chuletas are so good but the ensalada de pulpo will make you cry. When I eat here, I feel at home. I leave here happy and never say no when its time to go back.
FYI, they make a decent margarita, morir sonando and delivery is timely. If your ever in east ny, check it out. -

Food is Great, i am definitly a regular. People are very friendly. Service I must say is slow usually takes 30-40 minutes to get your food but usually is always worth the wait!
prices are great! -

We're definitely regulars at El Rey on Liberty Ave! We eat here after classes...and we also order all of our food for parties here. It's a great local spot for lunch or dinner. The food is great and prices are moderate...and they can whip up ANYthing you fancy. El Rey is definitely our favorite restaurant in the local area. A shout out to Pedro...our fav El Rey staff member. They're all amazing.

So since we discovered this place, we keep going back. Its nearby, its convenient, and its open until 2 AM on weekends.
It's always hit or miss though. I'm sure the language barrier is a part of the issue. If you try not to stray far from the basics, you will be fine.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This place is not too far from my work. So we are there often. I have to say that the food here is exceptionally good and cheap! I usually get rice and beans with chicken and cost only $5.00. In addition, the quantity is quite large, I always have to tell them to give me less food.
really wanted to give this place 4 stars but lately, the place is a hit or miss. Some days the chicken is dry and the beans taste horrible ( I mean how can you go wrong with the beans).
But the fact that Im keep going back shows that the food is still above average and yes the people working there are very nice. -

New York, NY
Spanish food done very well. I've had the arroz con pollo and it was top notch. They have a diverse menu that covers breakfast through dinner and some parts are a bit eclectic for a Spanish restaurant. A bit odd to see a menu with everything from spaghetti alfredo to pig ear stew to goat stew mofongo to traditional pancakes but they pull it off well. A very good value as well - arroz con pollo $7.00, ham omelet $3.25.
