I went recently with my dream date and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent, attentive and noninvasive enough for us to have a candlelit romantic dinner.

I really love tapas, and have had such a tough time finding a place that's reasonably priced and that has decent food as well. Used to love Xunta in the East Village, which was uneven but made up for it by being reasonable, but it is no more. Sombra y Sol on the UWS is good but, pricey. Same for La Mancha on Atlantic- delicious but, out of my price point except for a special occasion. I'm so glad that I found El Mio Cid because while it's a hike from where I live, it's well worth the 40+ minute trip. Prices are fair and the tapas are marvelous.

Our pitcher of white sangria was light sweet and tasty, with lots of fresh fruit to nibble. I am drooling thinking about it now and plan to head there in summer and savor many, MANY more.

Tatsy bread and butter came right with the pitcher, which was a godsend and kept me from ending up under the table because that first glass of sangria was a sucker punch. Also worht noting, many of the dishes came served on bread- so I was pleased that we were provided enough bread and that I didn't have to ask for it. Part of the tapas fun is savoring the sauces and bread is a big part of that...unless you want to use your hands. Enough sangria can do that to a person.

For our tapas supper, my dream date and I shared the Cordoniz En Salsa De Higos, which is a roasted quail (which was not my personal fave due to the texture of the tiny creepy quail's bones, but, which truly tasted lovely and had a rich fig & red wine sauce that I sopped up with bread), the Cocktel De Camarones which is a juicy fresh jumbo 3 shrimp cocktail, and the Jamon Serrano Y Queso Manchego, which had a sumptuous fig or maybe guava paste on it? Whatever it was it was the perfect compliment. The last time I had jamon serrano it was at a place that was supposed to have the best ham in NYC and HATED it- oversalted to death and tasted like a meat fruit roll up. This serrano? Light. Rich. Salty but the right kind of salty. And paper thin, heaped in the middle of the plate. Yum.

We also tried the Albondigas, which are homestyle meatballs in a sauce I would have been totally fine drinking from the dish (Thank goodness for that bread). And lastly, we had Solomillo De Cerdo Adobado, which is a pork dish- dream date's most anticipated choice. It was the only let down for the two of us- taste was good, but not great-- due to the pork being a bit dry.

Other than that small misstep, every bite we shared was a magical treat and I was planning to order more but by the end, we were stuffed full of flavor & richness so there was no room...but we still split a flan. How can you pass on flan? It was cinnamon-y and tasty and helped absorb the remaining sangria we sucked down from our generous pitcher. The long hustle back to the L in the snow was that much more warm from our last glasses of sangria.

I can't wait to get a huge group of friends to come here in the summertime and try every single tapas, hot & cold. This would also great spot to pop into after a show at the Bushwick Starr- another thing I plan to do. El Mio Cid, I've got a crush on you!

Everything was really good.  We had their red sangria which could have used a little more triple sec, but was really glad that it was not too sweet.

Their bread and butter was amazing.  We shared 4 or 5 tapas, which came out quickly.  We had stuffed mushrooms, mini chorizos, shrimp with garlic, and a couple of other dishes.

I wasn't crazy about their house dessert: bread soaked in wine with cinnamon and ice cream: in fact, I'd recommend not getting it, unless you know you'd like it.  This was my first time ever trying this dessert and expected something just a little bit sweeter.

Gave us some tawny port at the end: delicious and unexpected nice treat!

I'd go there again and would recommend to a friend.  Prices were reasonable, service was excellent and food was very good.

First of all, lemme just say that I only stopped eating because my stomach refused to hold more food.

My friend & I went for lunch just this afternoon. It took her awhile to find on-the-street parking, but that was the only issue. For all the dishes we ordered, 7 or 8 in all, I expected a wait. Happily that wasn't the case. I heard the food coming before I saw it, sizzling as it was, in their cute little tapas dishes.

My favorites were the spicy mini chorizos, followed by the chicken croquettes. We also ate tiger shrimp and I swear the sauce was good enough to eat as is. I put it on everything.

I also had the stuffed clams, a little too much breading, but I didn't let that stop me from making a fool of myself. Then, the stuffed mushrooms, with crab, scallops and something else I don't remember, but does it matter? It was good too.

We even found room for the Chilean sea bass, and I never thought I could think of the word 'buttery' and fish in the same sentence....but I did, and it gives me a special little thrill to remember it even now...

The waiter was genuinely attentive, and even tolerated my Spanish, which, believe me, is saying a lot.

I honestly thought I couldn't eat anymore. I really believed this. But then the most evil thing happened: a slice of their cheesecake, ON THE HOUSE. Yeah, so then I died and went to heaven after that.

It is from here that I write this post.

A great afternoon. I will be back.

Great, friendly service: I went with a Groupon and the waiter informed me of the Yelp deal for my next visit, and I returned! Very attentive and friendly waiters/staff.

Tasty food: Unique Tapas selections, great salads and YUMMY sangria pitchers.

    MUST TRY:

    Pollo Al Ajillo
    Beets & Spinach salad
Passion Fruit Sangria (Red wine tastes WAY better than White)

    I will be back!

    What I liked:

    Authentic Spanish Food
    Wide Selection
Upscale Feel (very bland, but nice considering the neighborhood)

    What I didn't like:

Inattentive service (Even though we were 2 of 6 ppl in the restaurant)
Simple flavors that only work well if you have top notch ingredients (which they didn't)
    Out of the way location

Overall, not a bad option if you happen to be nearby, but not worth going out of the way for.

    Sub par service.

    Average tasting tapas.

Decor that puts you to sleep.

All in the corner of Bushwick where you really wouldn't to walk around on the late night? No thanks.

Plus, I agree with Erika F.'s review. They need to get their shit together with OpenTable.

If I was reviewing this place on the food alone I'd give it three stars. It's OK. It's nothing special, and honestly the service is atrocious. So why the one star?

I purchased the Yelp deal for this place, and as it's right here on I also made an opentable reservation. I dined at this place, was on time, and everything should have been up to snuff.

A couple days after, I got an email from Opentable saying that the restaurant had listed me as a no-show. When I called the restaurant they told me they listed it as a no-show because i couldn't "get two deals at once." That they pay $7 for every customer that comes in through opentable so I couldn't use the yelp deal too. UMMM what? You never said that #1, #2, that's not true, and #3 you signed up for a service (opentable) to get customers to your average restaurant in a crappy spot in Brooklyn. You agree to pay the fee.

I will NEVER go back to this place, the people that work here are liars and crooks. Also, the crema catalana was cold and the fish tasted off. There are my two cents about the food.

I really wanted to love this place I really did.   I just can't recommend it.   The food was not very good and at the end of the day, that's the most important criteria.

I'm not usually in this neighborhood but went to a performance near by and saw the yelp coupon for this place so I thought I'd give it a try.  The inside is well decorated with images of Flamenco dancers and matadors.  We ordered a pitcher of the guava sangria which was delicious.  Although the pitcher was 90% ice.  We were only able to have two small glasses out of it.

The tapas menu is large and well varied but nothing lived up to the description in the menu.  The artichoke one was made with canned artichokes....Really?  Canned?  The sweetbreads had a strange chewy texture that shouldn't happen when cleaned and cooked properly.  The quail was good but nothing to write home about.  In fact, every tapa had a brown sauce on it that I think might have been the same one.

In any event, the drinks are the only reason this is earning two stars.  Very creative sangrias but that's not enough to make me want to come back.

"It might be time to take the L train into the city"

Like many others, I went here on a coupon cutting deal -- this one courtesy of Yelp.   I thought that $20 for $40 in food and drink, no restrictions for weekends, 1 year expiration, 4.5 stars on Yelp was a no brainer.  After dining here, I feel like I didn't really get a steal of a deal.

Had the following drinks/dishes in order of taste preference:
    - Mixed Olives -- *Excellent, Full of flavour, good assortment, and huge portion
    - Grilled Sardines * Very good and fresh tasting
    - Chicken Croquettes *Good.  Cooked well, good sauce, but not a standout.
    - Goat cheese and spinach salad *Fair, a little heavy on the dressing and nothing special
    - Sangria with Passionfruit * Poor.   Hi-C sweet.  Didn't even taste the white wine
    - Mushrooms and Leeks *Poor.  Way too salty and mushrooms were standard button type

    Pros:
    - Good Service
    - Attractive decor

    Cons:
    - Food is so-so
    -  Cheesy music mix.  Expecting a little more traditional flamenco to match the setting here.
    - For a serious restaurant, it was odd to see a Flat screen TV showing the basketball game, hung fairly prominently
    - Prices are a little high for this part of Brooklyn and the quality of the food (without a coupon deal)

    Surprise:
    - Very old school decor, owner and patrons.  This was especially odd given the area of Brooklyn where I would expect to see more artists.

3.5 stars but rounding up because it is so close to me and the experience was pleasant.

I came here with a Spanish friend of mine to redeem that groupon (5 tapas, dessert, sangria). It was around 9:15 on a Thursday and we were the only people there, other than a couple wasted (but friendly!) dudes at the bar. The service was prompt and they give you space so you can have ~~intimate conversations~~ or chat with the waiters about the food.

    We got the
    - jamon y queso
    - cordoniz en salsa de higos (quail with figs)
    - PULPO a la gallega (octopus with lots of delicious things)
    - croquetas de pollo
    - spicy lil' chorizo smokies (not the actual name, surprise)
    - red sangria
    - flan.

Our favorite was definitely the jamon and cheese. My friend dubbed it authentic and I believe his Spanish authority, and it was also SO good. The manchego was topped off with membrillo, which is one of my favorite things, and the jamon was perfectly papery and salty. A close second was the octopus. One of my mottos is that the only good octopus is a dead octopus, since they are terrifying when alive yet amazing when dead and sautéed. They did well on those here.

Most of the other stuff was just kind of eh. The croquettes were super bland. The chorizo was tasty but super rich. The quail was pretty terrible. They're bland little birds, and the figs didn't do anything for them (it wasn't even a sweet sauce -- just tasteless). The quail's potato chip type side garnishes, though, were pretty good.

    The sangria worked.

Flan was obviously frozen, or something, and it was super sweet and syrupy (did not get the Spanish stamp of approval but he ate it anyway).

I'm glad my neighborhood has this unique little place, although if I go back it would be awesome to see some elevated spices and such. Or I'll just double down on the sangria, pulpo and membrillo-y jamon y queso and call it a night.

Based on previous reviews, I thought I would love this place.  But alas, I was wrong.  The great thing about El Mio is that the wait staff was awesome!  They were very attentive and extremely polite.  The food was a total bust.  The 2 stars are because his quail, my chorizo and our sangria were the "stars" of the evening.

Got the Groupon deal (otherwise, I probably wouldn't have gone) and with boyfriend in tow for date night, we dined.  The deal was 5 tapas, dessert and a pitcher of sangria.  We ordered chicken croquettes (actually, potato croquettes) with tomato sauce, scallops in cilantro sauce (boiled, not seared), quail in fig sauce with fried potato (quail was over but the sauce was good), baked clams oreganata style (sandy and fishy) and chorizo with onion peppers and wine (star of the night).

We both had tres leches for dessert.  This is my favorite dessert next to flan, but this cake was clearly store-bought soaked in milk.  Didn't like at all.  The sangria was only good because it was spiked with rum.  And you know what's worse?  The place smelled great!

I love tapas, so when I saw a deal on Groupon I just had to buy it. So when my good friend was visiting from D.C. over Christmas break, we went here for lunch. The place was a bit hard to find, but this was because we were driving in an unfamiliar territory. When we've arrived there was a huge Christmas gathering inside, which made the place felt very warm.

The servers and us had a small language barrier issue, which I wished I could've whipped out the Spanish I had learned when I was in 7th grade haha. But luckily, pointing to the items on the menu was good enough. So my friend and I ordered a few  different tapas. The first one was the Sauteed Octopus with garlic, wine, tomatoes and onions. This tapa was pretty good and the  octopus wasn't chewy. The second tapa was the Chicken croquet with homemade tomato sauce - the chicken was very tender and not dry. Third tapa was the stuffed mushrooms and what more can I say? I love mushrooms! The fourth tapa was the fried calamari and it tasted pretty good and well I also love calamari, so no complaints! The fifth tapa was sweet breads, which was only okay.

For dessert I got the homemade creme brulee, which was amazing! I loved every bite of it. As for my friend, he gotten the tres leches cake, which was also pretty amazingly delicious! Not sure if my friend and I are small eaters, but after those five tapas and dessert we were actually full. But other patrons food looked and smelled really good. Everything seems really authentic and writing this review makes me hungry. If this place wasn't that hard to get to, I would be going there quite often!

It has taken me one year, a generous Yelp deal, my brother moving to Bushwick, three trains and a half-mile walk to get to El Mio Cid. The food here was pretty good, but this is a tough review to write given my impossibly high expectations and the lengthy trek.

El Mio Cid has all the tapas greatest hits and they're generally executed well. Prices were reasonable, but still not mind-bogglingly cheap. A standout for me was the chorizo, which had the most flavor of everything we ordered (and the sauce was perfect for bread-dipping). Service was prompt and pleasant. That said, I was a bit puzzled to be seated at a 4-top in the middle of the room when there were only two of us, and plenty of smaller tables available.

Perhaps I'll be back when I'm in the area, but man, it's far. Unless you live in Bushwick, it is definitely a project to get here. If you've got a few hours, definitely a worthwhile adventure, but if you just want some tapas ASAP, maybe try somewhere else.

I've been to this place 3 times. I was searching for a restaurant on YELP in my neighborhood to take my nephews for lunch and I found this place with $20 for $40 Certificate so I decided to try it out. They also have certificates on http://restaurant.com as well. They have the lunch special menu featuring Entrees with salad, soup, and soda or glass of wine, from 9 bucks to 13 bucks. They also have a special menu for dinner everyday. I love the steak and the tapas, especially the mussels is so fresh. There's a large selection of tapas from seafoods to meats. The atmosphere is nice and well decorated. The waitress are very friendly and well mannered. I'd definitely go back more since I live only few blocks away.

I really liked this place. The hubby and went a while back with a groupon which i cant remember what it was for, but the food was great. I remember having the shrimp and garlic sauce and octopus tapas which was good but not worth the full price for such a small quantity. hubby had the steak which he loved and i hated because he insists on all his food well done, however it was huge and i know had that sucker been medium and would have been delish. we also had a fruity tapas which was good but  imo not enough alcohol. I also was dying to try the ginger sangria so i got a glass and it was horrible. overall a very nice experience, I would pay full price for the food but not the tapas

My boyfriend and I tried this place out last night for the first time and were very pleasantly surprised. We used our awesome groupon and got 5 tapas, a pitcher of sangria and 2 desserts all for $35! The food, service and ambiance was great but the food would have been very pricey without the coupon, each tapa hovering around $8 each. Only dish we didn't enjoy was the scallops in asparagus sauce... They had a funny taste and we sent them back. We enjoyed :
    Setas rellenas
    Pulpo gallega
    Patatas bravas
Quail with fig sauce (a bit dry)
    Croquetas de pollo

So there's a really nice tapas place in my neighborhood?!?!

How frikin cool is that?  I'm kicking myself for letting that Groupon deal slip by!

I had the following and btw, the plating was really nice too:
    Jamon Serrano y Queso manchego ($9.5) [*]
Sardinas a la plancha ($7.5) [Fresh whole Mediterranean sardines grilled with sea salt]
Chorizo al mio cid ($7.5) [Sauteed Spanish sausage with onions, peppers, and wine]

I can't remember the type of sangria I sucked down the entire night, but it was amazing.  They have an interesting selection of different flavors that I plan on experiencing in the future.

Random deal plug from their website:
    Happy Hour 4-7pm
    Wine ($4), Sangria ($4), Beer ($3), Oysters & Clams ($1 ea)

    * They didn't include the English translation for this one, so I naturally gravitated toward it.  Then I realized I knew what jamon and queso manchego meant.  So my adventurous grin shifted into a "Oooo, I know a lil Spanish" smile  :)

Now to get them to update the ridiculously large menu image on their website to something a bit smaller or text-based...

Used an amazing Groupon deal here - $35 for a pitcher of sangria, 5 tapas and 2 desserts. The meal started off with warm bread, which I always think is a good sign. Why don't more restaurants serve WARM BREAD?? Everything is better warm.

Everything we ordered was ranged from good to great - favorites included the patatas bravas (spicy potatoes in an aioli and spicy sauce), the gambas in hot oil (one of my favorites), the chorizo with peppers and onions (a really big portion considering its price). The calamari and bacon-wrapped scallops were a little disappointing as the calamari tasted like frozen pre-battered calamari and the scallops weren't bacon wrapped. However, the scallops were served with a great white asparagus sauce that we drenched up. We picked the homemade creme brulee which was GREAT, a wonderful crackly top, and delicious and huge slice of tres leches cake. The sangria was delicious, but not very the most alcoholic one I've ever had.

Overall it was a great experience and I'm glad to have them in the neighborhood. Service was great despite the fact we used a Groupon, which I appreciated. I'd be interested in seeing how there delivery is. Definitely check them out, El Mio Cid fills a void needed in the Bushwick dining scene.

Really enjoyed my dinner there.  Quiet atmosphere, great menu, great service.

The Chorizo is exceptional - smoky and perfect.  The shrimp and scallops were also a big hit with the group.  I'd be happy with a loaf of bread and a tub of the garlic sauce that the scallops were cooked in.  Their Sangria was light and not too sweet.

I'm definitely going back.  Other things won the group vote this time around so next time I'm getting the sweetbreads, which above all other foods puts me in my happy place.  Can't wait.

    Oh... my... God...
This place is good to go for a snack (though you'll want more for sure), to take a date out on, etc. The sangria is delicious, service is wonderful, and they have happy hour on their sangria glasses. (Note: you'll come out better ordering four glasses of happy hour sangria than buying a full pitcher which is same amount, since pitchers are not discounted for some reason.)
Every single dish here was incredible. I don't eat seafood but even I was sharing some of the fishy dishes.
I found this place through a Groupon and I'm glad I did I've been back several times since in the past few weeks!

This place is a gem!  It's is definitely an excellent addition to the neighborhood.  El Mio Cid is decorated nicely with linens and cloths and beautiful art on the walls.  The ambience is nice and the overall feeling is very comfortable.  For my first visit, I felt like I had been coming there all the time.  The waitstaff is very friendly and attentive which is very nice.

    The food:

They have a huge menu with just about anything you might want to have.  The tapas sizes are good.  You get just enough!  I've had a few different things.
    -The mussels (love, love, love)
-The calamari (spicy sauce is yummy)
-The bacon wrapped scallops in asparagus sauce (perfection)
-The gambas al ajillo (piping hot with a TON of garlic)
-Beet salad with cheese & walnut (tasty)

    The drinks:
-All of their sangrias are good.  You have a glass option, half or full pitcher option.  Love them all!

Desserts I haven't tried yet but if the food is so great, I'm sure they do just as great with the desserts!

I will definitely be back here soon!  Love you El Mio Cid!

My date was came to New York for vacation, so I took her around and about. After a long day I wanted to take her out for dinner. Both in the mood for spanish , upon being intrigued I choose El Mio Cid.

The atmosphere was extremely pleasant and comfortable. Although there was a slight chilly inside, the set up of the restaurant somewhat made up for the lack of heat. The hospitality of the patrons was inviting and attentive. Although not an issue for me, someone may have slight trouble with communication. The music was cool and loud where you cannot hold a conversation.

My date and I enjoyed our entrees. I ordered and destroyed the Croquetas de Pollo. The fresh tasting chicken breast was good, but I was too enthused with their homemade tomato sauce. It wasn't thick; the sauce was more on the watery side. However my date enjoyed her lobster as well did I lol. I wasn't going to just let her eat that by herself. I definitely like I cheated myself out of ordering the better entree. All in all, I did not end my night disappointed For the community of Bushwick and Brooklyn itself, this is a good hidden secret.

    A STEAL!

    Delicious, copious....

GO HERE! Don't let these guys leave. Seriously, champion-awesome food better than spots in Manhattan which would charge 4x the price.

Depending on the street your on , you'll notice the usual for that culture. This one in particular. its neighbors consists of late night bodegas and top notch B rated Chinese spots...

Not the case for this hidden gem. Except when entering this well though out restaurant with magnificent paintings and figurines you will notice , after getting your first meal, it is just that. Just things to look at.  For its area of location was a mistake on the owners part.

The entire place was so dim (evening) , only the light from the iphone can light up the menu. After careful consideration we've decided, to start with appetizers and see where it goes.

The prices were a little bit above above average, not for the food but for the location it was in ... (ex. $30 for filet mignon) i mean cmon , your on wilson ave in bushwick! Lets get realistic here.

The mussels were pretty awesome i must add , adding to the other things to be stared at, but my "chicken and fries" appetizer remained bland in taste and rubbery in texture.

Enough to call this place quits quite early, leaving little desire to take the risk of ordering an entree.

This place may be a great place to take a break or for a nice date, but for wine or beers (no spirits) for the food may indeed ruin the night.

My girlfriend and I drove up from Park Slope to use the Living Social coupon I bought.  The trip turned out to be worth it in a huge way.  We shared six tapas plates and wine.  Everything was prepared so fresh and flavorful.  Each little plate is a taste experience.  The food at this place, "out in the middle of nowhere", is every bit as good as all Spanish food I have had around the city.   Really, it is that delicious.  The polite and dutiful waiter even brought us a free cheesecake for dessert.   We do want to return to this place, again.  El Mio Cid, I happily award you 5 stars.

    The service was excellent.

The food? Eh, okay. The sangria tasted like average sangria, the olives plate was decent, the fried potatoes with sauce were quite tasty. The vegetables in the vegetarian paella didn't seem fresh and the rice didn't toast at the bottom whatsoever... came off like a random yellow rice side-dish I could have made at home in the rice cooker.

    I like the creme brulee.

I guess I'm just a bit surprised at the rave reviews here... I think they may be inflated due to the lack of competition in the middle of Bushwick. In Manhattan or other neighborhoods places like this are a dime a dozen.

This restaurant is amazing! Everything we ate was delicious! The albondigas, patatas, stuffed mushrooms and little necks were my favorites! The ginger and passion fruit sangrias were so good.

The waiter had the whole restaurant and bar, but still did an outstanding job!

You have to try this restaurant. Don't sleep on it!!!

Soft incandescent lighting, exposed-brick walls, sexy and intimate in any neighborhood, but as luck would have it, this tapas bar is in East Williamsburg.  You would never expect such a charming place.  It actually transports you.  The service is amazing.  Octavio one of the waiters is very informative on all of the selections on the menu and will suggest the best choices. Very accommodating.  Shrimps al ajillo, amazing.   Definitely worth a try and you'll always come back.

My Fiance and I love this place soooo much. Honestly I dont know how they do it, but they have some of the most amazing food I have ever had. In the middle of Bushwick?

Try the sauteed octopus tapas plate. Its out of this world. Everytime we leave we couldent say anything except superb. Oh and the prices are cheap for what you get.

Definitely a must try for anyone.

I live nearby and when I first moved to the neighborhood I went here once and had to go back again.  The food was amazing and the service was excellent.  I love the large windows in the summer which are open to the street, I could spend a long lazy lunch here any day.  The happy hour specials are wonderful and I can 't say enough about the food.  Perfectly cooked.

I am hoping to try everything once here :)  I just hope this neighborhood can draw enough customers and doesn't deter people from trying this wonderful tapas restaurant.

Dined here last night with my guy and we had a lovely dinner. He's not a big seafood guy so we would fairly limited since a lot of the dishes are seafood. I was a little bummed cuz I love it, but we stuck to the meats and it was delicious. The food is a bit pricey for tapas in the area, but overall we devoured everything. The place is nice, very clean and the staff super attentive. I will definitely come back.

I grew up accross the street from this place.. and remembering this space being an apartment ... i found out about this place by from my sister so today we decided to check it out and go see the old hood.. Man was i surprised of how much bushwick has changed over the years with bars, and cool restaurants like this.. we had the PULPO GALLEGO-  i thought it was pretty good but the SALPICON DE MARISCOS was awesome!!!!!kinda reminded me of like a ceviche minus the citrus... the SANGRIA- i give it 5 stars it was great but then again im not much of sangria snob.. now to the good stufff We had the PAELLA VALENCIANA WITH LOBSTER for $26 u get half of lobster and a huge paella!!!! you can honestly share one paella between 2 people and still have some left over!!!! and man it  was gooooooooooood.... being  it was in bushwick and no longer have to travel to northern blvd. for my paella fix  i give this place 4 stars!! wouldve  been 5 but the happy hour which is everyday can only be redeemed up at the bar (no sit downs) :( BEST PAELLA for the neighborhood and it being so close to home  IM FAN  i iwll be back !!!
