Been a regular at Furniture Warehouse for some time now. Sad that they don't allow you to toss peanut shells on the ground anymore but the atmosphere still kicks some serious ass here.

Food - Everything on the menu is 5 bucks but takes ages to get to your table. Just ask the waitress or bartender if the kitchen is backed up and they will be honest with the time frame it will take to get to you. I quite enjoy the sandwiches, avoid the burger. When you are done enjoying your food, your plate will stay on your table until you leave, something to do with the business liqour license they have. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me, can't we just show the liquor inspector our bill with the food on it?

Drinks are average price for Granville district. Only ever had draft beer and the keg lines seem fine. If you are looking for a dive bar with character this is the place for you.

The (now) Famous Furniture Warehouse is loud, crude, and full of character. The food is cheap, cooked, and served with haste, although the portions vary. The beer is pricey, except by Granville street standards, and watered down.

Now that I've summarized, I came here out of curiosity for their menu, not their beer selection. The waitress made me very uncomfortable with not drinking, but since my friends bought a beer each she laid off the glares for a while.

I ordered the chicken dish with rice and salad, which came both tasty and well portioned. When I tried a sip of my friends beer, however, it was immediately apparent that it was watered down, and had almost no flavor. I'm sure you could get tipsy after your fourth or fifth pint, but at the price you would be better off going to a real bar.

Then the bouncer came on shift to seat people. He must have been new, because another staff member was giving him instructions on his job. These included "if someone looks a bit drunk, please ask them to leave."

So I'm left a bit confused. Is this a bar, or a restaurant with mandatory beer for your meal? Although the patio was nice, the waitress took so long to come with a menu I had to grab one myself, although she was very prompt with the beer! And yes, my food was nice, but my friends "soft shell tacos" were two tiny tubes filled with... beef paste?

That, and the never ending blasting of loud music and TVs discourage me from being too eager to return. Not that I never will, it's just not anywhere near my favorite dive.

Cheap food is a plus since you HAVE to order it to drink. A waitress who does not visit your table often enough to keep a decent buzz and forgets your beer is a minus. Especially when you can see her standing around and chatting to other wait staff. The decor of the place is definitely a plus, I think that's what got me to go in there in the first place. The minimal selection of beer on tap gives them another minus. Our dishes being left at our table after we had eaten and the remainder of the time we were there also counts against them.
I really want to like this place. I really do. It just seems like a nice relaxed place to drink. But with the drinks not being replenished fast enough it makes it difficult. Sorry El Furniture, you shattered my hopes :(

I was lured into this place by the intriguing signage outside the door:

"$4.95 for everything on the menu. It's cheaper than McDonalds and tastes better than Burger King."

Well my friends, the verdict is in.

Everything on the menu IS $4.95. Everything. This includes Penne Alfredo, Enchiladas, Nachos for One, and many many more... I'm not gonna lie here - the portions were a fair size and the quality was pretty decent. I admit the nachos could have had a little more cheese - but I'm giving them brownie points for layering the toppings on the nachos so they were enjoyable throughout!

"Fulfilling NONE of your furniture needs" reads a sign above the bar at the Furniture Warehouse. I would have to say it fulfilled none of my needs, full stop.

The first downer of this place was that there were no drink specials on a Tuesday night. The waitress was snooty that I'd even asked. When she brought our beer she pointedly mentioned that if we wanted to have another drink, it would be mandatory that "everyone at the table" order food. I understand that restaurants have licensing laws to obey, but that doesn't mean she had to be a jerk about it!

The place is going for a Mexican theme, so there's a statue of a "Mexican" by the barrel of peanuts. You can eat the peanuts and throw the shells on the floor, which is kinda cool ... in a bar. But this place is obviously not trying to be a bar, since you can't drink more than one glass without ordering food.

The lights were too bright, there was astro-turf subbing for carpet on the upper level, hard rock music played and snowboard videos were showing on the TVs by the bar, which had a "Shooters 4 Hooters" sign elegantly displayed. Last time we were there bras were hanging from the bar, too. Awesome? Hmmm...

Oh El Furniture Warehouse, how I wanted to love you.  This place had potential to be my fondest memory of Vancouver, but the longer we stayed there, the worse things got.  Sitting down in a cozy half-booth surrounded by television screens, while Depeche Mode played overhead, we ordered a couple beers and our waitress cheerfully informed us it was all you can eat taco night.  Sounds great so far right?

Shortly after, the music was shut off in favor of the hockey game.  Our food took a lot longer than it should have to come out, and the loaded burger I got, while tasty, was criminally small in comparison to the bun it was served on.  The tacos were average, but definitely not all-you-can-eat, as the waitress chose to flirt with a table of jocks instead of coming back to check on us.  We waited for over 30 minutes as we watched her wander around the bar, occasionally serving other tables, but not returning to ours.  I finally had to chase her down to get our check.

It was some of the worst service I have ever had, and I am pretty forgiving in most cases.  It was certainly not busy, and not worth the tab we accrued while there.

El Furniture Warehouse, you broke my heart.

I really like the Warehouse and unless it becomes a un-hip dump I doubt I'll ever dislike the place. I like the fact that it has snowboards (and skateboards?) on the wall. I like the Surfer/Pacific Boarder type of fresh vibe.

My friend commented that the server didn't seem too something or another, I can't really remember, she seemed fine to me, she paid enough attention to us and the food didn't take that long.

I was disappointed in what I ordered, quite heavily.

I'm a Vegetarian, so there are very few if barely any options on the menu. I ordered the Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Fries, and since the food is usually really good quality, I thought the bread would be thick and of good quality, but it was just regular cheap bread (not really cheap though). I was very disappointed. But as some say, how can you complain for $4.95?

However, I did order the Vegetable platter and it was a joke, literally. I paid $4.95 for five slices of tomato, cucumber, carrot and celery. Are you F'in kidding me?!?! That should be half the price!

All in all, I love the place, but this time 'round it deserves two stars and plus I'll never order these two dishes again. Which leaves me to about three more choices only for a Vegetarian. So disappointing.

If you are looking for somewhere laid back to have a few drinks and some food with friends, this is a decent place. The staff is all really friendly, they played good music, even though they were going for "Mexican hut" they didn't have Corona which I thought was weird, but they had Sol.

The place is small, but decently laid out, it didn't feel squishy or anything. Has the hole is the wall - its-okay-i'm-in-jeans-and-a-tshirt vibe. it was busy when I arrived (I was meeting friends) and they let me skip the line since i was meeting with others, which I thought was great since most places don't care who you are meeting and where they are.

Overall, I would recommend it for a chill night out with a group of people.

I think this is one of the few places that I've been to that I would actually consider a "hole in the wall!" But in a good way. It gives the place its charm. Also went here as a part of a pub crawl.  I had something called a Lazy Boy lager. I only got it because of its name. It's easy to sell things to me if they have crazy, interesting, random, weird, cool, etc names.

But I digress... the food was standard pub fare: chicken strips, fries, onion rings, chicken wings, grilled cheese sandwiches, and quesadillas.  The quesadillas were stuffed with cheese and chicken and served with salsa. It was all pretty good. I couldn't tell you the price point on the food but the Lager was $5.50.

    A funky little place...

It is what it is.  They serve beer and they also serve food, its not good food... but are you looking for gourmet when you have the drunk munchies anyway?

A funky little place, located in the centre of the Granville party block.  Decorated mainly with skateboard decks, and the odd LCD TV showing snowboard movies.  The atmosphere is cheery, the music is loud and the staff are warm.  The restrooms are painted with blackboard paint and chalk is provided, allowing for the finest of off-colour poetry, social commentary and other drunk ramblings in non-vandalous manner!

The highest price food item on the menu is 4.95$... which is cute.  Even if your main interest is drinking, a burger or sandwich for five bucks is not a hard sell.  This not a place I would go to eat... but is certainly a place where I would go again if I were not quite ready to head home... and had the dunk munchies.

This is my second time at El Warehouse, though the first time I went I was just there to see my coworkers, did not drink or eat. But I came here last night for a couple of drinks with coworkers.

First of all, it was Saturday night, the place was packed. We told the server we had a large party but didn't get a big table, we got squished into a tiny little table with about 8 or 9 people.. and some of our friends were forced to wait outside. I guess it made sense to some point, but was annoying because they separated our group.

The service was minimal, our server barely came back to us as she was busy talking to some other group of guys most of the time. The bartender is really nice and funny though. The bouncer was trying to be reasonable and finally got us the big booth to seat everyone.

This place has a lot of restrictions. If you sit at the bar area, you can drink as much as you want. If you sit at a table, you can't drink unless you order food. But not like, one plate to share with like 3 people, EVERY single person has to order food to drink. It was extremely annoying. I think it's cause the place is under a restaurant license, not a bar.

Luckily the food was under 5 bucks. Everyone seemed to like the nachos and stuff, some of the sandwiches I heard were okay. The fries could be better, but whatever. I ordered onion rings, DO NOT ORDER THEM. They look good, but they are so so bland (how that happens, I don't know) and the dip it comes with doesn't make it better. And their mixed cocktails are a no no too. They tasted very watered down and nothing special. I had the Sex On The Beach and Peter Jacobs. Not good.

The place definitely has it's own look and vibe. It's nice.

I would not return unless I was tipsy already and hungry.

The bar formally known as El Furnature Warehouse, is now just called Famous Warehouse. And although the random and confusing name has changed, regulars will be happy to know that the random and confusing decore still remains!

I have, and will always only go on Wing Wednesday's because wings are only $0.15 each. They only come in 3 flavours, but for $0.15 a wing, I could care less! However, beer is only served in pints and not pitchers :(

Food is cheap, atmosphere is laid-back, servers are friendly and good-looking... Who could ask for anything more???

The food was not bad, and it was very cheap, with everything on the menu under 5 dollars. The drinks were pretty cheap as well. The decor was pretty cool, and they had some random things on the TV.

Here is my issue. Never, in my history of going out to eat, have I felt more ignored and disrespected as a customer. I would make eye contact with the server and wave at him to try and get his attention, and he would not acknowledge me or anyone at my table. It took 10-15 minutes to get my menu, another 15 minutes to try and put a food order in. And we ended up waiting nearly an hour for a couple burgers and a sandwich. It was ridiculous. The whole time the waiter acted pissed off like we were doing something wrong. Usually I take everything into account when rating a place, quality of food, service, atmosphere....But the service was so horrendous here, I can not possibly give it a higher ranking than a 1. And I went into the place wanting to like it as well.

If I ever find out they fired their entire serving staff and replaced them, I might be willing to go back. But otherwise, I am going to take my business elsewhere on the Granville strip.

Dive bar with cheap beer food and beer - nothing wrong with that.

All entrees are $4.95 or less - I originally thought that meant all the menu would have are fries and small nachos.  But the sizable menu includes burgers, pasta and tacos.  My friend and I had the fish tacos, the works burger and poutine.  To be honest, the food was pretty so-so (the burger was alright, but the poutine and tacos were bland) - but considering that you're paying less than $15 for three entrees which are near full-sized, this is a hell of a bargain.  And if you're drinking like a place like this encourages, the greasy beer food is perfect.  After our late dinner, we continued our drinking and the waitress said she'll leave our dirty dishes on the table off to the side - presumably due to liquor by-laws.  So, you will probably have to order a bit of food to drink here - but it's all good since all the food is cheap.

Beer on tap (including Lazy Boy & Big Rock) is only $5 - $6 as well - so this can make for some cheap and blurry nights.  It's a bit of a dive bar (tons of signs and posters) but it seems clean enough and the vibe is better than your usual stuffy Granville St. bar.  I came here during a Canucks game - the TVs are relatively smaller and fewer than a usual sports bar, but you can still watch it easily.  The only complaint is that someone really needs to EQ their sound system - it was distractingly loud during the game - not because of the crowd (which was quite subdued) but rather that it made the announcers seem like the voice of God.  It was BLARING whenever the commercials came on.  Maybe it was just by comparison, but when they switched back to the usual rock music, it sounded much better.

Unfortunately, they don't take debit, since my friend only had her debit card and didn't want to stick her card into the shady ATM on-site, I had to pay for dinner and drinks on my Visa.  Not really their fault, but I'm going to blame them anyways.

Overall, pretty cheap and funky bar.  I can moan about the sound system and lack of debit, but I can't argue with the food pricing - perfect if you have the alcoholic munchies.

If you're looking for a classy joint and happen upon el furniture warehouse...or "el furn" as my friends and I call it....keep on walking.  This is a peanut infested, beer drinkin', knick-knack carrying bar in all its glory.  And guess what? I LOVES IT!  The staff is friendly (minus a couple snotty servers) and there is always rockin' music blasting.  It's definitely a nice change from the other joints on Granville and I love walking past the drunken college kids who are paying $15 cover at the clubs next door.  Did I mention cheap wings on Wed?

Yes you have to get past the fact that you MUST order food to drink (stupid by-laws) and a couple of the servers I could do without BUT for the most part who doesn't love a place you can throw peanut shells on the floor?  Here's a tip: make friends with the bartender...even if your server doesn't like you...the bartender is the only employee that counts ;)

Burger and sandwich were very good for $4.95 each, fries were fresh and hot, nice grainy mustard, and the bacon was tasty and just right. This type of meal would cost $13 at Malones, or Cactus Club or something similar.

Bartender(owner?) was very friendly. Love the look and layout of the place.

Only misses for the place are the lack of any choice for draft beer. Places like this should try to emulate my unofficial second home of Portland, OR.

As for the day, the keg ran out of pale ale and he gave me half a glass on the house (as it should be) but didn't take if off the bill, but graciously did when he realized his error. Wine was expensive for what was offered, and considering there were limited choices. Also, they did forgot to put the onions and mushrooms on one of their specialty burgers, how do you forget such?

    Pros: food, service, location, decor
Cons: beer and wine is on the pricey side for what is offered, but it is downtown after all.
    Enjoy

Oh man, what happened to the El Furniture Warehouse of days of 'yore? You know the one I'm talking about... the definition of a dive, where you could stuff yourself of beer and free peanuts, throwing the peanut shells on the floor, ensuring none of your friends with peanut-allergies could enter? I miss those days.

The place has cleaned up a bit (no peanuts), and now requires patrons to order food. Lame. Food is actually alright, but why force it to make business?

This is a great dive bar with the best food deal: nothing over $5 for food.  All the food is great too.  It's decent bar food, and considering the price, if you're looking for cheap eats downtown, I'd go there easily again (which I already have).

It's true, everything on their menu is $4.95 and they don't skimp out on their portions. I went in one night on wing-special-night, was sitting by the server station and the waitress threw a plate full of chicken bones and missed, and spilled bones and sauce all over my cashmere long coat. Embarrassed, she quickly (and repeatedly) asked "what kind of shot do you want, ill buy", as if a shitty shot of liquor is going to make everything better. I was furious but I was very gracious and kept my cool, asked for the manager and demanded his card and that i'll be back with my dry cleaning bill. He apologized, though not very sincerely. After our meals and drinks, I still had to pay full price for everything. Trashy people. At least I got my coat cleaned, even though it took FOREVER to get a hold of the manager again. I straight camped out at their restaurant to get my money.

To tell the truth I was excited to try this place when we walked by it while looking for a good lunch, it had lots of character and looked very welcoming.

Unfortunately this was not the case.

First and foremost, aside from a few appetizers, all menu items are now $9.95, coincidentally in time for the Olympics. This would be fine if they weren't still serving their $4.95 dishes. You won't hate the food, but you won't love it either, mediocre at best.

They are also including a 18% gratuity on parties of any size.

Once again, i have no issues with this if i was receiving 18% worthy service but this was not the case. It took almost ten minutes for the waitress to even acknowledge we had come in, despite the fact she walked past us six times. The place had, at best, twenty people in it and she looked as though she had five tables to take care of.

A simple "hello" or "I'll be right with you" would have done wonders for this first impression.

She was cordial once we had our menus but the damage had been done. A burger and quesadilla took almost thirty minutes to come to us from ordering, fine and dandy if you are busy which they clearly were not. There is no way, unless you simply don't start the food for twenty minutes, that it should take this long for what we received.

Save yourself the time and money and go somewhere you'll get better food and service; McDonalds is a mear half block away.

Food took 25 minutes but waitress warned me the kitchen was busy. Tried leaving a review earlier but didn't seem to work so back at it again. (frickin Iphone) Says something that I took the time to write twice though with my busy masturbation schedule and all. As far as classless joints go, this is as good as it gets. One solid thumb up. Love the name, love the place.  El Furniture is a great haunt on Granville.  The music is lively, the crowd is pub-going and the peanuts are free.  After a busy night the floor is littered with shells, I feel for the staff and the nightly cleanup.  This bar is a great spot to hit up if you're not in a clubbing mood but still feeling the action.  It gets quite busy on a weekend, so much so that a bouncer mans the door.  Unlike most places, the line isn't held to create the illusion of a busy interior, when they can seat you, they will.  A small patio juts out onto the street and is quite inviting.  The food lacks flare, but its filling and to be expected.  I don't even advise eating here, hungry? There are barrels of peanuts man, barrels!

Another victim of the draconian licensing laws in this city. Licensing must be breathing down their necks because the waitress wouldn't clear our plates while we were still drinking because they wanted to be able to show that we were eating. Um what about just showing licensing our bill? Super cheap food however and a pretty cool divey atmosphere, but I can't shake off the constant feeling that they are paranoid about losing their license.

I went to this place a few months ago and thought it was pretty cool so thought I might organise a softball windup there. I wanted to see what bookings were like so went to the website where there was no phone number so I emailed and my email was returned. Realised warehouse was spelt incorrectly in the email address provided so corrected myself- email returned again. Googled to find a phone number- disconnected. Tried a number from another site- mailbox full. TOO HARD. Will be taking softball team somewhere else!
