NORCAL burrito! So bomb
Could you please not make me ask for salsa everytime you know I want it. The ladies that work here are generally not in good moods. Prepare for bad looks if you ask for extra salsa. But on that note, try the green sauce! -

We have lived out here in the outer sunset for over 7 years now, and have ordered from El Burrito Express several times. While not fantastic, the burritos are good solid sustinance.
As of late they have had banners and posters in the window offering delivery. We called tonight for delivery and they said that it would take one to one and a half hours. Ok Its Saturday night, thats ok. Then they said maybe more than that we don't know the driver is still out.
Ummm, even if they said "So Sorry, we dont have this delivey systm together yet" I would have understood. Thats not real delivery guys, please get your shiz together, or don't offer a service that you cannot provide. -

I've been going here for years - and its still good
Burritos, tacos, and more - they got it and now they take credit cards and deliver if you can wait...
the only downside is the long line - I guess the deliveries make for longer waits -

Fries in a burrito? Are you kidding me? That was hands down the best burrito I had so far in my life. Nor Cal burrito packed with many flavors, it was just delicous. Thats all I'm going to say. If you want a twist to your burrito, go for the NorCal burrito.

Great burritos on the cheap!
Biggest downside is no sit down seating really only a few seats by the window!
Bronco cheese is my favorite -

This place is okay to me. The food is alright, I usually order the bronco burritos. But, sometimes the chips they give you are stale. Price is great so I guess the okay food balances out with it's price. The cashier I had today was really nice, however the person who called out numbers today and gave me my food was totally rude. I simply asked if she would like my receipt because it had my number on it and she said, "Bye!". I felt like taking my $1 tip back out of their tip jar.

I've been here a handful of times and have not been disappointed! It was a Saturday night and Bunny and I were trying to figure out what to have for dinner. We weren't sure if we wanted to go to a sit down restaurant or get food to go. After thinking for some time, we decided on El Burrito Express!
Finding parking was a challenge. The place is located on the corner and easy to get to if taking the muni. However if you're driving, that is a different story. We went up and down the streets looking for a space. There was a time when it looked as if we could fit, but then the rear of the car stuck out so we'd have to move. After driving for about 15 minutes, finally we were able to park!
The size is a bit small and there a step upon entering. If not paying attention, you may trip. Most don't done at El Burrito Express, but you will see people standing around or sitting on the bar stools waiting for their orders. I had decided on the Chili Colorado burrito while Bunny ordered the Northern Cali Burrito. When doing the Yelp check-in, you get a free soda can with a purchase. We had actually planned on redeeming one from last time, so now when we come back next time, we can use this free offer.
You go up to the counter to order and when your order is ready, they will call out your number. There is a flat screen T.V for enjoyment while waiting on your food. The wait wasn't too long and with a purchase, there is chips and salsa. I enjoyed the Chili Colorado, but it was a bit spicy. The rice and beans made it filling. The chips were crispy and fresh! Bunny's burrito looked good.
We will come back to pick up lunch or dinner when in the mood for a filling burrito!Listed in: Feeling like Mexican?

Since my dad is an avid burrito consumer, he is always on the hunt to discover *the best burrito" He used to drag us down to the mission and church all the time. (If you are a salsa lover, the one on church has a bar dedicated to it.) Both places are 3.5 to 3.75 star worthy.
In any case, a friend recommended El Burrito Express and now he refuses to go anywhere else. Why?
"They just cannot compare."
He just loves their bronco burritos!
I personally love love love their signature burrito. Not only is the buritto generously stuffed and a meal large enough for two, it's topped with tomato enchilada sauce and extra shredded cheese!!! I mean, come on, who doesn't enjoy extra cheese? I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!
To round out your meals, each burrito is served with complimentary chips and a choice of two types of salsa.
Sue's Quick tips :
1. Stamp card: Buy 9? Get the 10th free!
2. Check in on yelp? Complimentary can of soda. Just saw this one!
It may look like a crack in the wall, but it's definitively one you shouldn't miss! -

I've been here over the course of a few years and I have to say that their good quality remains the same. I love their chicken super bronco burritos, it doesn't have rice in it but that means you get more meat, beans and other delicious vegetables. Size varies with the type of burrito you get. The largest it can get is maybe less than 10 inches in length which is not that big compared to other burrito joints that I've been to. Comes with chips and salsa: red for hot, green for mild. The wait can get long depending on when you go, some people order like eight burritos at a time. Talk about a fiesta.

Burritos are grub but i think they need to check those registers. Maybe it's my fault for not looking at the receipt but then again who the hell does when you buy one burrito? Got my burrito, paid for it, got home, grubbed then i happen to look at the receipt and saw something funky. How the hell do you get a total of $8.18 from (Expresso Burrito) $6.85 + (Tax) .58? I posted a pic of the receipt in the photos. Tip for yall, check the receipt before bouncin...

El Burrito Express provides a bang-for-the-buck meal that is low on wow factor but high on consistency.
The El Expresso wet burrito comes in a plentiful portion that always raises a mid-meal question of whether to save half or to ignore sensibility and finish stuffed. Although the fillings are generous, the permeation of sour cream and sauce throughout the burrito leaves each successive bite with decreasing flavor vibrancy. Halfway through, any distinguishing between the fillings is hopeless, as the meal has become a giant pile of burrito-flavored mush.
El Burrito is a convenient location to satisfy a burrito craving that is akin to getting a Chinese takeout fix at Panda Express, but it will never be a first choice. -

Reminiscing of the California Burrito I've had regularly in So. Cal, I was pleasantly surprised to know that they serve it right here. From San Diego to SF, there's no way the CA Burrito is escaping from me.
The Nor Cal Burrito, as they renamed it, is really good. I mean REALLY good. The ingredients are fresh and each bite is juicy, cheesy, and full of amazing flavors. I get it with grilled chicken instead of beef since beef can get a bit dry. The size of the burrito is also HUGE that only a big burly man (or woman) can finish. It is freaking amazing. -

I used to hate Mexican food haha! but today, i decided to try something different so i stepped into this restaurant and looked for some new stuff! i ordered a grill chicken burrito, wow it surprised me! why? because it tasted so freaking good, it only cost $4.9! i can't finish the whole burrito in 15 minutes because it was so BIG! i had to save it for later! haha
People in this restaurant speak Spanish and Spanglish(lol), i didn't really understand what they were talking about even tho they were speaking English to me lol! -

Great spot for a chicken enchilada plate, tucked away on Taraval. I'm not really a burrito person, so sorry to those looking for a burrito review of "El Burrito" but what I do know, I've been here twice now during the lunch hour rush... And this tiny Mexican joint had a line out the door with people ordering BURITTOs.

My friend Dave C. took me here on a fatty run we were doing (which included hitting up Purple Kow and Marco Polo). This place is definitely one of the better burrito places in the Parkside district.
So far I've tried the carnitas tacos and the carnitas bronco burrito. I especially like the carnitas - it's very fresh, full of flavour and juicy. The taco was much bigger than I anticipated. I definitely loved the bronco burrito - beans, cheese, avocado and fresh pico de gallo. The bronco is my preferred one simply because it has whole beans (not refried) and it doesn't have rice which really allows you to savour the meat.
Cheap, convenient, quick service and delicious. All you really need. -

I've been going to El Burrito since I was a little boy. They've always been quality and never disappoint. If you love dry burritos, get their carnitas Super Bronco burrito (I call it the John Elway). Their wet burritos are also mouth-watering. I recommend the chicken/sour cream El Expresso burrito. My friend ordered the El Macho burrito today, their foot long special, and it's enough to feed a small nation.
You can find their menu on http://www.ebxsf.com. If you're in a rush, call ahead of time and avoid the line.

I used to frequent this place a lot during high school but after coming back from school in southern California (during that time I ate a lot of authentic Mexican food), I walked past el burrito and reminisced about old times.
I ordered the California burrito (with fries inside) and walked home to eat it. I took my first bite and it just did not taste that good at all. I dont know what it was but it just did not taste as good as my Mexican food from SoCal. I took a few more bites and still did not taste any better. I even let my sister try a bite and she didn't even like it.
This place used to be the bomb but as of right now, something is lacking. It may have been that the french fries weren't crispy and made everything all mushy. Also the meat and beans didn't really add much flavor. -

This place is AWESOME!
Every single time I go, I order the same thing: the chicken/sour cream expresso burrito. It is seriously SO filling and can last for two meals.
The only downside is that they are cash only. I guess that's a good thing because I'd spend all my money there. Parking can be a little tricky, it's meter or neighborhood. -

This place is pretty good. THe burritos are definitely the tastiest you'll find in this part of town. I'm partial to the super burrito with pollo asado. THe service leaves a lot to be desired, the ladies that work the register are decidedly unfriendly and will never crack a smile, say thank you, etc. Lastly, this place can't hold a candle to the kind of mexican fare you'll find in the mission, or excelsior for that matter. So if you just need your burrito fix quickly, this is the place to come. If you have time, and want the best, head over to mission st.
Oh. Cash Only, if it's busy (eg dining hours) you'll be waiting outside. -

I have a big Mexican family and we are very picky about Mexican restaurants and the food served. Its a time consuming process to make tamales so we usually order them from El Burrito Express. We order the tamales in the husk; salsa and cheese on the side. The tamales are excellent! Not greasy at all. The masa is perfect and not only filling but tasty. I prefer the chicken tamales, but the meat and pork tamales are also very good. A big 5 star for this Mexican restaurant.

Review from Steven B.
El Burrito Express' regular burrito is a decent size burrito that's a bit dry. It's a pretty good burrito for the size. I don't have stuffed after eating it so that's definitely a plus.
The burrito contents are re-fried beans, a couple of pieces of avocado, little bit of lettuce, rice, and chicken. The re-fried beans are creamy and it pretty dry. The chicken is marinated with some kind of sauce, which is tasty. The rice is rice... it's soft. One thing interesting missing from this burrito is salsa.
Their thick chips are different from other restaurants, but it's definitely good. -
Review from Jason C.
Best nachos in town. Fresh thick crispy (not hard) chips. Loads of cheese covering the chips. Juicy carne asada on top of the cheese. Bean paste instead of whole beans. then its topped off with 1/3 guacamole, 1/3 pico de gallo and 1/3 sour cream. You can barely see the chips by the time they top off with all the toppings. Why i like it, its not soggy, the cheese melted on top provides protection form the other wet ingredients. You know the nachos is a winner when theres more toppings than chips! Man i love this gooey, cheesy, meaty and crispy mess! for some reason its not greasy either, dunno why, but I like.
The service here is fairly quick compared to their other location. Sunset location is smaller but its also cleaner.
I will definitely come back when i get cravings for nachos. -

Walked in to get a quick bite right before a workout.
Carne Asada Fries
- fries were a soggy, greasy, old looking mess
- dish was 50% cheese, 30% Fries, 10% Sour Cream 5% Guac, 5% Meat with some Pico de Gallo sprinkled on, totally ridiculous proportions
- basically a gross pile of food that was made in 15 minutes when it should have been ready in 5
the floor was a mess and the tables were dirty, which i did not mind. it was the fact that the seats were dirty and greasy which bothered me.
the compost bin was lined with a black plastic garbage bag. that is ridiculous to me. i guess it's just for show.
i probably will only come back for a burrito if i'm desparate next timeComment from Phil H. of El Burrito Express 1 9/14/2011

I was cautious to try Mexican food this far from the Mission, but a craving necessitated it and off I went.
It's tiny and smells wonderful (reminds me of San Diego) and I was SHOCKED to see Carne Asada Fries on the menu, as that is something you are hard pressed to find in this city. That's what I ordered, and while it was different than what I'm used to, it was really delicious.
About $5 gets you a small plate of mostly fries and cheese, but with steak, sour cream, guac and salsa thrown on top. Perfect for one person, don't try to split it.
I'm impressed. However, I have many burritos to eat before my final judgment can be made. -

Got the carne asada fries.
There are about 7 bar like stools for dine in with a self serve water pitcher. There was a green and blue bin but both contained trash.
Anyways the fries took about 15 mins to prepare and it was loaded with cheese. Small pieces of beef accompanied the soar cream, salsa, and guacamole. The fries were kinda soggy and oily. The quality of the carne asada fries is no where near the ones you get in san diego. The portions were also kinda small for the $5 price. Either way its a cheap place to get average at best mexican food. I will avoid for now unless desperateComment from Phil H. of El Burrito Express 1 9/14/2011

I haven't had much from here but I fell in love with their grilled steak in any kind of burrito.
They have a wet burrito, it was pretty yummy too even though that wasn't what i ordered? But the sauce on top was really good, I'd get it again.
I wish they have a bit of a friendlier staff? I'm always afraid to ask anything or have special requests. -

Back when I told my friends that I was moving out to 25th near Taraval, several of them independently excitedly told me that I had to go to EBX. I was skeptical, it's the Sunset after all, but they were absolutely right.
Fresh ingredients, friendly service (at the counter, or over Twitter-I love their tweets!) and a clear love of what they do. I've had the tortas now and then, but the bread runs out early, and honestly, it's all about the burritos.
They are all excellent, but one day I was feeling adventurous and decided to stop sneering at the clearly non-canonical NorCal burrito and give it a shot. It is AMAZING. I order it about two thirds of the time now.
The only drawbacks are that it's cash only (the Walgreens up the street has gotten a lot of business from me based on this fact) and closed on Sundays (I may have cried once or twice, after deciding on a burrito and then realizing it was Sunday). Also, it's really more of a to-go place, so don't plan on eating in unless it is a very slow day.
Oh, and the addition of delivery made this place even better! -

Nor Cal Burrito with Tofu.
I literally dream about this. The cheese is melted on the tortilla first, so it surrounds all of the delicious filling like a warm, cheesy blanket of heavenly deliciousness. Then they put in french fries, guacamole, salsa (2 kinds!), expresso sauce, and the marinated succulent tofu from heaven. DROOL.
Yes, I can eat the whole thing in one sitting. Yes, I am a fat ass. Just because I am a vegetarian doesn't mean I have to be healthy.
Seriously though, if you buy me one of these I will probably love you forever, or at least give you a hand job. -

I really want to like this place. Really I do. It's like 2 blocks from my house, so it would make life so convenient if I liked it. Unfortunately, I don't really care for it at all. I only come here when the boyfriend really wants a Mexican fix and we're too lazy to the Mission...but then I try really really hard to either dissuade him from eating Mexican or persuade him to go to the Mission.
I'm neither impressed or unimpressed by the food here. It's just average, but I mean, SF is filled with delicious Mexican food that it's just a waste. The horchata, however, is disgusting. We ordered it and it tasted like dirty water with some cinnamon in it. It was nasty. Do not order the horchata...stick with the tamarind jaritos, you'll thank me later for warning you.Comment from Phil H. of El Burrito Express 1 8/4/2011

You ever have those days where you wake up all cranky and tired and all you want is some quick comfort food and watch tv all day?
Well when you work 30hrs a week and you're a full time student, you will experience this whenever you have a day off.. This is where the boyfriend comes in! :) He goes and picks up some food from el burrito express, I either get the chicken POLLLLLOO burrito, or the famous nor cal burrito with fries. The chicken burrito is in the tomato marinade, which I'm not a big fan of, but the norcal burger really is poppping with flavors from the different salsas used. You won't regret it.
Ask for chips and salsa as you're paying. Ask for extra red salsa if you're like me and you love a spicy burrito! When they are making the burrito, you can even ask them to add extra salsa in the burrito.
Yes the staff may be a little intimidating depending on who is working.. but its cheap! All worth it. about 7-8 dollars, Do the check in offer!! FREEE SODA. CASH ONLY. -

More or less the only taqueria in the Sunset, which is the only reason I go here.
I always get a vegetarian burrito- rice, beans, guacamole, salsa, so I can't vouche for their animal products.
Over the past year- they had really improved and I found myself going here about once a week. But about 5 months ago, something changed. I've been consistently disappointed with my burritos: flavorless beans, mushy rice, and overall a really skinny burrito.
And yet, every 3 weeks, I give them another chance. Hoping....
I also feel like I am asking for an ounce of gold when I have to meekly remind them to include hot sauce with the chips. Except when the white guy is working-he gladly offers it up! Tonight I got *both* red and green salsas! Both- without feeling like I'm trying to pull a fast one and run off with the salsa that's clearly not meant for gringos!
Essentially- this is my go-to place when I'm in the mood for a wad of dry tortilla with bland beans and mushy rice. See you in a couple of weeks El Burrito Express! -

All-in-all a good burrito place in the Sunset. I don't enjoy their tacos because I ordered it once and it came with beans...I don't eat my tacos with beans and usually at other taqueria's they don't add beans to a taco, right? Anyways, their burrito's are good. Been coming here for years and I do see a price increase ever so often.
I give them a 3-stars because they just can't compete with the taqueria's down in the Mission. Just way better...Comment from Phil H. of El Burrito Express 1 8/4/2011

I live in the Mission so to get a good burrito I don't have to go far. El Burrito Express is all the way in the foggy, cold sunset (parkside), and is worth the trip! They have an expansive menu and feature some very unique burritos. They even feature a Giants burrito with black beans and sweet potato fries inside- so good (I had it tonight!). The food may take a little longer than other taquerias but that's because they are making it fresh and they grill the burrito on the outside so it is warm and a little crunchy.
If you got the gas, the time and your winter coat, head over and check this place out! -

I'm new to the San Francisco catering world, however my company recently decided to start catering in lunch weekly to the staff and El Burrito Express was first up, we are all SO amazingly pleased with the excellent food! The delivery was prompt, professional and very smooth. And again the food was amazing, we had the taco bar which featured carne asada, grilled chicken, prawns, & carnitas all assortments of tortillas, salsas and the fixings! They worked within our budget and we will be ordering from them again in the future! ;-)

Coming from the Land of Tacos (a.k.a LA) I've been feeling a sense of dread over the lack of good taco options in San Francisco. My Better Half is a SF native and loves burritos ( I'm more of a taco girl myself), so though he bemoans the loss of tacos just as loudly as I do, he has something to calm his hungry belly since SF is burrito territory. Well, thank heavens for El Burrito Express 1!!! Not only are they tasty, but in my neighborhood!!!
Ok, now it has to be said UP FRONT: this is not LA quality tacos. There are taco trucks in LA that will make you WEEP with joy. BUT El Burrito Express has some killer steak. I'd almost venture to say better than some taco trucks in LA. Their lack of Al Pastor is disturbing, but I forgive in the face of high quality steak. The Taquitos (2 corn tortillas, meat, cilantro, lime) are the same size and idea as the LA taco truck taco which means I can wolf down about 4 of them, suck down a Mexican Coke and call it a day. Added bonus is they give you chips and salsa (I'm a light weight, green all the way, baby!). The big downer is CASH ONLY.
Burritos look tasty, but I'm hooked on their taquitos and they will hold me until I get my Al Pastor fix in LA. Did I mention that they deliver? Oh sweet, sweet laziness! I dig it. -

If you happen to be in the Parkside/Sunset area and craving for a hearty and tasty burrito, be sure to stop by El Burrito Express!
I've been here many times and have never been disappointed. They have a wide variety of burritos to choose from, ranging from the typical flour tortilla filled with rice, beans, meat, cheese, guacamole, and fresh pico de gallo, to various vegetarian and seafood combinations. They also have specialty burritos such as a breakfast burrito, one filled with homemade chile relleno, and another which they call El Macho Burrito which has two giant flour tortillas stuffed with two meats, rice, beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, tomato, and onion AND measures over a foot long!
My favorite is the Shredded Chicken El Expresso Burrito, which is served the wet style. This is just not one of those burritos that is consumed by holding in your hand and slowly peeling away the foil as you chomp away. No siree! This huge, delicious work of art needs to be enjoyed on a plate or right out of the food container with a fork and knife! This burrito is wrapped in a giant flour tortilla and filled with generous amounts of rice, beans, cheese, and your choice of meat. Topped with guacamole, onions, tomatoes, and cheese, and finally covered with their special expresso sauce that provides just enough kick, this is really a gift from heaven! I did without the dollop of sour cream to be a little more heart healthy . . . but at this point does it really matter! This is one plump, tasty burrito that literally measures 10" X 4" and is good for 2-3 meals. For a little less than $7, what a great bargain!!!
Their chips are also delicious! Very fresh and crisp, not too salty, and just the right thickness. You know they're really fresh when you don't have that greasy aftertaste after munching on them. You can really taste the true corn flavor.
The place is rather small and does not have tables, only a few stools at the counter by the window, so it's best for take out. It's cash only so be sure to bring enough bills or make a pit stop at the ATM before coming.
When I feel the need to satisfy my burrito craving, I will definitely be back!
