Businesses who put their bottom line ahead of their customers are doomed to fail. A friend of mine and I had an important exam to study for which we felt could be done at Either Cup. I was in a state of intense focus and had nothing but studying on my mind.
I've been in this cafe a few times and know their policies of "you must buy something to be viewed upon respectfully" but tonight I felt this could be overlooked--since the place was practically desolate with exactly four customers besides us taking up roughly 10% of capacity. Overheard they were closing up at 10:30 as well (when they're supposed to close at 12). So roughly 40 minutes into my intense cramming session, this scrawny dude comes up to me and asks me if I'd like a drink in the most contemptuous and arrogant manner I'd yet to be treated with. After that question, I knew exactly that I would not want to stay nor have another horribly, bitter and stale-tasting Earl Grey tea my companion had ordered.
I pointed out that the place was empty after the man had pointed out that "business was business". This set him off. On our way out after I wished him the best of luck in his endeavours with the place he had the gall to attempt to embarrass us with a "if you don't want to spend money, why don't you stay home?" and when I mentioned that even after 40-some odd minutes I was still interested in a drink but only until the rudeness was detected and way too apparent, he even called me stupid and attempted to rile me up/make a scene. What pathetic behaviour for someone in the service industry.
That was the straw that broke the camels back: I'm never going back there. No service/ambiance is enough to make me return for any perk or special.
If you want a good, relaxing, non-pressured atmosphere, I highly recommend Blenz just down the block (No. 3 and Ackroyd) as well as the soon-to-be-open Waves Coffee just across the street from Blenz--which will both be open 24hours. When they open, there will be even less reason to spend your money where your presence isn't as appreciated as your wallet.
I recommend that you avoid such abhorrent business practices; especially for a cafe--such a customer-oriented industry too!
Best of luck with your business.
