My sister and I have been coming to Edible Flours since it has opened. My sister has dietary restrictions so this is one of the few places she can get a treat.
The owners are quiet but kind.
My sister alternates between the sugar-free lemon cookie, the jam thumbprint cookie and the banana bread. I have tried the cupcakes, the zucchini bread and the cinnamon buns. Everything we have tried has been delicious. I think their products are priced accordingly considering they are made in small batches with quality ingredients.
I recommend Edible Flours to anyone looking for a healthy treat. -

I'm no vegan, by choice or by force, and I devour sweet treats like they're going out of style.
In my books, baked goods reign supreme. They are untouchable.
So to hear of a place that is reimagining the magic formula of egg, butter etc. to taste like the real deal?
Intrigued. Skeptical. But curious enough to make my 1st foray into a vegan bakery.
Delusions of negative calories aside, I went for the most indulgent item in the case that day.
Cookie sandwich ($3.50):
- "cookies = fudgy, chocolate brownies studded within an inch of its life w/ meltingly gooey choco chips
- filling = uber sweet vegan-ified choco cream. Being mystified by the ingredients was half the taste.
- don't let the trappings fool you, this is no lightweight snack. It's downright decadent!
My one gripe:
The cramped display case makes for rushed decisions.
I'd rather not have a faceoff with the cashier the whole time I'm perusing so I can make my choice sans pressure! -

Let's begin by admitting that there is a reason people bake with sugar and wheat and butter: they make things taste yummy.
If you are *not* prepared to admit this, then you are probably the kind of hard-core wheat-free, sugar-free and/or vegan partisan who loves nothing more than a maple syrup-sweetened spelt-and-oat cookie. You will likely consider Edible Flours to be your personal version of heaven, because they do quite a good job of making decent-tasting baked goods for restricted diets. Whether you're wheat-free, nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free, vegan or some combination of the above, the odds are good that something on the menu will fit your particular needs. And when you try it, you'll probably feel deeply grateful that somebody has made a snack or dessert that fits your dietary requirements without making you feel like you've just eaten sawdust.
If you're not on a restricted diet, I'm not sure why you'd eat or shop here. Admittedly, the four items we tried (the lemon cookie, the banana loaf, the oatmeal raisin cookie and the thumbprint cookie) were all wheat-free AND sugar-free: it's hard to make a baked good that tastes truly delicious under both constraints, and it may well be that the sugar- and/or wheat-bearing treats they sell are a lot yummier. (Both the vegan cupcakes and the spelt donuts looked good.)
None of the treats we tried were yucky, which is saying something: a lot of the wheat-free, sugar-free products I've tried are inedible or even soul-scarring. Our 5-year-old really enjoyed all 4 of them, which is enough to turn us into regular customers: I'm delighted to have a source of baked goods that I can feel good about feeding him, and will likely keep their products in the house as lunch treats and after-school snacks. (If you have a child with a nut allergy or other food sensitivity you will be THRILLED to find this place.) Our 8-year-old, on the other hand, tried them but refused to eat them.
As for us grown-ups: my husband (who eats a totally unrestricted diet) says he would eat the thumbprint cookie again, though wouldn't go out of his way for it. I personally thought the lemon cookie was the tastiest, though it had a kind of oily aftertaste. And while I generally try to avoid wheat and sugar, and therefore should be right in the target market here, I didn't like any of the products enough to eat them again: even these relatively healthy baked goods aren't exactly spinach or broccoli, so it's not like they fill some nutritional hole in my life. I'd rather have an apple than a "gosh I wish this had butter and sugar" cookie.
We will be back for kid supplies, however, and maybe next time I won't have the strength to resist the sugar-bearing (and quite tasty-looking) treats. At least they'd still be wheat-free! -

The chocolate chip (not the gluten free variety) were good. A little bit nutty for my taste... I assume they use nut butter. Very sugary, but that's the nature of vegan pastry, and I like it! They were chewy and crunchy in that crystallized sugary way.
The almond butter cookies were more interesting. Not my style, but definitely a more distinctive cookie.
Both cookies were good, I wasn't blown away... However, I'm more than willing to keep trying this place! A veeg's gotta do what a veeg's gotta do! -

This place is like a bad parody of what you might imagine a vegan bakery to be like. A friend brought me in here once, and I thought I'd stepped onto the set of Portlandia. Behind the counter were two thin, pale individuals, frowning slightly at a fishtank containing three sad-looking donuts and a cupcake. I bought the cupcake because I panicked and thought it would somehow redeem the experience; it did not.
Try Flying Apron in Seattle instead. I'm really attracted to their staff.Comment from Paul B. of Edible Flours 6/23/2011

Thank you for being open on Canada Day, Edible! Also, thanks for putting that Maple, gluten free cupcake on hold for me.
This was my first visit to the shop, and I was taken with the sparse but tasteful decor. The chocolate chip cookie IS the best one I've had, anywhere. The cupcake was so rich, moist and dark chocolatey that I wondered for a minute if I had got a gluten one. The maple frosting was unique and 'creamy'
This is the place to order some specialty cakes for sure. Don't forget to empty your bank account fist though. This kind of *opulence don't come cheap!
(Nearly 4 bucks for a cupcake? -argh!!)Listed in: Gluten Free/ Dairy free eats.

The gluten free chocolate chip cookie tasted like coming home from school to have your mom's fresh baked cookies waiting for you. It was warm and soft and the chips were slightly melty. It tasted like it was baked with love and was so comforting to eat.
The gluten free lemon cookie kind of paled in comparison but my sister had it and thought it was great. She also had the oat flour thumb print cookie and was impressed at how soft it was. Definately some of the best gluten free, sugar free, baking we've tried. (Thumb print cookie wasn't gluten free but my sister can have gluten.)
I would definately go again for the chocolate chip cookie. It would be great to see more gluten free options. Was disappointed that the cupcake icing contained soy since I can't have soy and had wanted to try one.
The staff could stand to be a bit friendlier but maybe the rain had them down? The decor could use a bit more warmth as it fealt a bit like a dentist office.
Overall, the cookie was so good that if they were located closer to me I would probably want to go there every day.Listed in: Gluten Free Joints

I'm not a vegan and I love this guy and his creations!
Kinda pricey, but divine!
The cookies are not really greasy or dry!
I arrived with a whole display window of goodies, only to go outside to enjoy the cookie and donut purchased and then 3/4 of all the donuts were gone!!! This is how good it is.
I had the donuts and cookies..SO GOOD.
I love how he bakes in small batches to guarantee you always get something fresh! -

Popped in yesterday on my way to the grocery store, as I was so excited that it was finally open! This is a vegan bakery, with gluten-free items as well. By the time I got there (around 5:30) there wasn't a ton of gluten-free items left, but I tried a gluten-free donut with chocolate on top. Yummy, but a totally different texture than regular donuts. Just be warned, your expectations may need to change!
The seating area is small but looked quite comfortable. Nice couch and coffee table, kind of felt like someone's (very clean) living room.
Can't wait to try out their other gluten-free goodies!Listed in: Great eats, gluten-free

I've got three words - Brownie cookie sandwich
! Those are by far the best thing I've had at Edible Flours. I'm not a big fan of cake donuts but I do like the ones with chunky chocolate on top. The passion fruit truffles are amazing as well as any of their cupcakes topped with drizzly caramel or chocolate sauce is good by me. Really great price especially considering the high quality ingredients used. -

I've had the chocolate chip and brownie chocolate chip cookies and the banana bread.
I wasn't a fan of the cookies, just not chewy enough for me, and the chocolate chip and a lemony flavor to it which I'm not a fan. On the flip side, the banana bread was excellent, very moist and full of banana aromas. I was a little sad that when I went back the second day for more banana bread, they were out. It's a tiny bakery and the selection is limited. -

The baked goods I tried are expensive, but good (especially the gluten free brownie bite) and many could pass as traditional baked goods. The seating has also greatly improved now that they've added round tables with chairs. Although it still has that dental office feel.
I would definitely order a cake here for a gluten free or vegan friend. However, between the limited hours (especially on the weekends) and undependable selection and less than inviting atmosphere and staff, it's hard to see this place becoming a regular part of my routine. -
Review from Christine M.
I think I made the mistake of ordering the cookie brownie sandwich, it was dry and hard. It was more of a novelty thing for me being that I never get to have cookie sandwiches. I only wish I had been smart enough to order the cinnamon roll, it was incredibly tasty (I had a sample). The owner was very nice, the bakery is entirely vegan, the ambiance was great (it's very modern), and the cinnamon roll was fantastic - those things alone warrant 4 stars.

Tried the chocolate brownie cookie (really moist, chocolately with a bit of maple flavour) and took some cupcakes to try at home. The four of us agreed that the vanilla cupcake was better than the chocolate. The cupcake itself was very moist and had great texture and the icing was yummy and not too sweet. We visited the day after their official opening so I'm sure kinks are still being ironed out.
