I cannot believe I've been a yelper since 2009 and have thus far not reviewed my experience way back when at the Calgary Econo Lodge. For shame! To this day this is one of the bestest hotels I've ever stayed in, because it's clean, roomy, offers tasty breakfasts and is so comfortable I ended up forgoing a few sightseeing sessions.

I rocked up here for my MLA conference and was completely chuffed. My room was massive, probably bigger than my flat at the time, complete with microwave, coffeemaker (oh gosh, this was an era in my life when I didn't appreciate a coffeemaker. WHAT HAPPENED?!?), big mini-fridge, huge telly that was then replaced while I was gallivanting with an even huger telly, good wardrobe and drawer space, nice view... it was a home from home. The lobby was cosy and provided a continental breakfast each morning of pastries, toast and muffins, many varieties of all. I particularly liked the fruit toast and the bran and lemon and poppyseed muffins, the mini cinnamon swirls were super and you could get all kinds of cereal from Froot Loops to healthier varieties. (Note: all Brits explode when they see Froot Loops. Colourful cereal just isn't something we get in Blighty.)

I discovered a bunch of my favourite new sitcoms through cuddling up with my duvet here and it made my first ever trip to Canada (hopefully there shall be many more) a lovely experience. The staff were ace too. And this is a... budget hotel? Minutes from the C-train station? Seriously, I was just way too impressed.

Not a bad place to stay in the city. The place is right on the MacLeod Trail corridor and offers all the amenities you'd expect at a reasonable hotel. They offer clean rooms, polite service, and a surprisingly bright atmosphere.
