I recently had 5 windows installed in my house. They were replacement windows for the upstairs of my bungalow (bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and front picture).
I started off being very keen on this company. They are more or less local and there salesman was one of the best that came by to give me a quote (I had 4 quotes done). If you are looking to get windows from Ecoline, be aware that they seem to really highball their estimates. I was able to talk the salesman down by about $2000 from his original quote.
Ecoline does not manufacture their own windows. They are manufactured by a company in eastern Canada. The process of manufacturing was smooth and the time range I was given for them to be ready for install was fairly accurate.
When it comes to installation, I have some major concerns. The quality of the windows is great and the installers did a good job for the most part. However, I would recommend you watch their installers as they are working. One installer managed to cut an electrical line while enlarging the front window. Luckily I had someone there to see this... the installer didn't have much idea what he should do. One hole in the wall and a relocated plug later and the problem was solved (not by the installer but by my father).
Other things that left me with a bad taste in my mouth were:
- the front window being left wide open (in mid-November) while they waited for the new window to arrive (about 3 hours).
- extreme amounts of dust around the house, especially in the living room as a result of cutting through my stucco in order to enlarge the window. A simple barrier of some plastic would have solve both the first two problems.
- the installers proceeded to flip a door rug upside down and track mud onto it instead of moving it out of the way and exposing the tile floor underneath.
- cleanliness of the house afterwards was a little questionable. The installers could have spent a little more time vacuuming and dusting. It would have been nice for them to clean the windows before leaving (something I had to do myself).
- when I complained to the salesman, he was a little confrontational about the job the installers did. However, he has consented to have the hole in my wall fixed, but I'm still waiting to hear back from them about a time (2 weeks later).
Overall my experience with Ecoline was mediocre at best. Do your research, get lots of quotes and do some reading about each company. I did my homework on these guys, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend them. The quality of the work was good, but the service left a little to be desired.
