This is actually our favorite Sushi restaurant in Vancouver.
The Sushi is good, the decor very pretty and the staff is always very nice.
You come in and the first thing you see are the sushi cooks on their line. I love it to watch them making the sushi.
Our always favorite is the Royal Boat Dinner.
First you get Miso soup, an oyster, then comes a boat with delicious Sushi, then a boat with chicken teryaki, tempura and soft shell crabs and the dessert is included too (The green tea ice cream is so good :-D ).
And all that for only 24 Dollars per person.
We will always come back! -

One of my favorite lunch time places and places for sushi. Lunch special includes choice of 3 items, miso soup, rice or pop and green tea for $10.99. Has nice views of the Northshore Mountains and downtown.

Based on the sunny reviews of Ebisu I came here with my folks for a good 'ol Vancouver sushi experience.
I ordered the Ebisu Box which was plenty for one (I couldn't finish it!) filled with all my favorites; sashimi, tempura, chicken teriyaki & more! My parents had the Royal Boat which is HUGE and kind of like the big brother of the box. Each bite I stole from theirs was delicious.
HIghlights: The excellent tempura with just the right amount and texture of batter. Salmon sashimi was generous and fresh. The wonderfully kind and attentive staff. -

After living in Vancouver for close to two years, I have found my sushi bar. Have tried a few others and always found them lacking; boring sushi, ugly decor, and in some cases a TV blaring (e.g. Shiro). This Ebisu has good sushi, very friendly staff, and a nice decor. Another thing that I appreciate is that I can sit at the sushi bar and actually order from the Sushi Chef himself. I always found it strange in other places that a waitress had to come around and take your order.
As per usual, the ultimate question: "Would you go back?" and the answer is absolutely yes. Over and over.
[edit jan 28, 2012] i've been back a couple of times and the food has been a bit lacking. my favourite sushi guy is gone and the other guys aren't as friendly (or as good in my opinion.) the rice has been dry and the overall quality has been so-so. i'm not saying it's bad, just not as good as it was the first few times i went there. I guess it's time to start looking for another place. again. -

Normally I'm not too big of a fan of Ebisu (read: poor value), but today I was pretty satisfied.
Parking is free ($4, reimbursed at the counter) in a parking lot downstairs. Tons of parking. To get back inside after hours, find the security guard in the main office lobby.
It looks like they renovated part of the restaurant (NE corner) as the bar is shaped differently from what I remember from last time.
I shared a Royal Boat combo ($20 / person). Quite a bit of stuff.
Ebi sunomono - not insanely sour like most other places. They used 2 large prawns instead of 2 tiny shrimp like every other place I've been to.
Matsutake Dobin Mushi - also surprisingly good. Straw mushrooms and generous portions of seafood.
Oyster Motoyaki - chunks of oyster (not a whole one) served in a large shell, with a slice of lemon and a pile of salt underneath. Not sure if the salt was just a decoration, but what a waste. Sauce wasn't too greasy, but oyster didn't taste that fresh.
Boat #1:
Inari sushi - a bit too sweet
Salmon sushi - wasn't farmed
Tuna sashimi - a bit frozen, but otherwise okay
California roll - decent size, but nothing special
Chopped scallop sushi - tasted fishy
Masago sushi - generous portion on top
Boat #2:
Soft-shelled crab - really really good
Vegetable tempura - not too much batter, which was nice
Tonkatsu - little bit fatty, but otherwise tasty
Fruit - fresh
As I was part of a large group, they also gave us ice cream as part of the deal.
Black sesame ice cream - tasted just like those dessert balls you can buy at an Asian supermarket
Coconut ice cream - actual coconut flakes. Delicious.
Service was a bit slow on the ordering side, but the food came promptly. -

I am was in the area with some time to kill before a doctor's appointment and dying for a sushi fix. It was like a higher power heard my calling as I was looking around this corner for a place to eat and there was Ebisu.
I had the Combo 4 which included chicken teriyaki on a bed of cabbage
without rice, 6 piece california roll, 3 piece tuna roll, 3 piece cucumber roll, miso soup and green salad for $13. Well that included a 20% tip as the service was great at the time of day.
I have to say that the idea of chicken teriyaki without rice is a great concept. It's not as filling and I can enjoy the rest of the meal without feeling like I am going down the bloat train. The rolls were tasty and fresh. Only one of the 6 california rolls fell apart so that wasn't too bad. I liked that they were mouth size. They weren't too big and they weren't too small. They were just right. Kind of like Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
A the end of the meal I didn't feel like I was being ushered out so someone else could come it. I will definitely be back to try some other lovely dishes. The only down side I could see is that most of their combos come with Tempura which I am not a fan of. -

Their fish supplier is magnificent- their sashimi was some of the best I've ever had, absolutely delicious, and very reasonably priced for the portions.
That said ... their service was friendly, but completely disorganized and slow to the point of bad.
I will definitely do their takeout ... probably enough to give myself mercury poisoning ... but I would not eat here again if I were in any kind of a rush, or wanted an easy dining experience. -

Yummy yummy yummy sushi!!!
Ebisu has a great dining room complete with a variety of seating options from larger traditional tables, small cozy enclosed booths, regular tables or seating at the sushi bar. The chefs are all pros here - you'll not find a bad dish on the menu.
There are specials on a lot of weekdays, be sure to check them out as they're often worthwhile.
If you live in the area (or are staying at one of the nearby hotels) then take advantage of their delivery service - they have a 4km maximum radius as they consider that to be the furthest they can go and still have the food be fresh. And it is FRESH when it shows up at your door! -

Ebisu on West Broadway in one of the BEST sushi restaurant in Vancouver! The reason why I said that because I love sushi and I always want to find a good Sushi places to go too, but I always end up going to Ebisu on West Broadway. They have delicious sushi rolls like (dynamite roll, california cone and spicy scallop cone) & raw sashimi, oh as well as, grilled squid. I usually go here 3 times a months or sometimes more! They not only have good sushi here but they also have great customer services as well. I really like the staff there because they are really nice and they always smile when they serve me! So everytimes I go with my friends I always have a great time! Thanks Suk for always so nice to us and serve us well! I totally recommended this place if you want to eat good Japanese Food! 2 TUMBS UP!

I got take out from here and was not disappointed. The Cherry Blossom roll was packed full of tuna and salmon and even came with a small side of sea weed salad. The spicy beef gyoza (deep fried dumpling) was a good appetizer. I'm glad it wasn't very spicy. The service was fast and friendly. My order was ready in about 10 minutes.

Every time we went to Ebisu, we went for a Bday party and ordered tons of food and tons of drinks. The drinks specials are generally $18 to $25 for 4 shots and they are not watered down.
The food is not amazing, but quite decent. The prices and portions are quite decent as well.
The only thing is they give you a two hour max window for dining as they are quite busy all the time. So watch out for that when you have a large group...MAKE SURE THEY ARE ON TIME.
There's parking at the back, but I always park on Alberni about 1 block and a half away because I can't ever find a space in their parking and parking on Alberni is quite cheap if you can walk a block or so (and provided you can find parking on Alberni).
Not the best service, but better than most Chinese-owned and run restaurants. -

It's not Ajisai...but still not bad at all. Good portions. I'd go back.
