It was a little after 10:30 on a Thursday.  My ex husband said he was hungry.  I told him that the restaurants don't open until 11.  He said we can go to the "honey restaurant."  He was driving, so I continued to focus on my phone conversation.

I later learned that he calls it the honey restaurant because the servers address the customers as "honey."  I actually like to be called by terms of endearment.

He ordered the steak and eggs.  I ordered the chili.  I tasted some of his steak so that I can Yelp it.  The flavor was bold and the meat was tender.  My chili was equally delicious.  The service is prompt and attentive.

Not a bad place for a decent breakfast. I really can't say anything bad but then again I can't say anything too good because I really don't remember a lot about this place other than they had really good coffee and the owner looks just like Liza Minelli.

Try this place and let me know if I'm wrong but I'm a fan.

great yummy food in big portions.  but better to call it in and have it for pick up bc its soo tiny inside and outside.

i think they are pump the volume on customer service bc when i asked for a table, guess how long the wait would be? 45min for breakfast.  Screw that!

The place of locals.  Old Torrance feels like somewhere else, a little funky nice town with good folk....very non-LA and unpretentious.  During the weekdays, this place which is located on of the nicer streets, attracts the regulars, mostly elder crowd, whereas the weekends, get a bit crazy with all kinds of families and foodies.

Cute and small inside (painted in yellow), and lots of outside seating.  They really try to have smokers sit on the furthest spots, and on weekends (when most of the neighboring business are closed), Rudy's lines-up tables all the way down the block.

The service was very nice and very responsive.  In rotation style, 3 different waitresses helped me during my meal, and a coffee guy, too.  The initial waitress carried over an A-frame sign with the daily breakfast and lunch specials.  About 12 in all of good and varied choices.  The menu prices are fair, and range from $6 to $15.

My first visit was done right: a chile verde "mad dog" omelette [click for photo --  http://www.yelp.com/bi....  HUGE!  3x the normal breakfast portion.  Served with 2 kinds of salsa, mild and hot, both homemade...and good!

Cash only?  Still just don't get why businesses feel this is okay.  It's acceptable for a street vendor, but not a proven business.  Demerit one star.  It's NORMAL that you have to pay the 2-3% service fee back to Visa/MC/Amex.

Parking is 2 hours free, and during non-peak times it's aplenty on the street.  No Wi-fi is offered, so demerit another 1/2 star.

Regardless, the menu is ample, people are nice, and burgers - you are up next.  While Rudy's is not fantastic, it's a nice place.  Returning a 3rd time (post-burger) will be contingent upon how good it is to me.  No pressure at all, but BURGER, returning again will be all up to you!

Just landed in the LA area and decided to look for a good neighborhood breakfast joint to start my day. Using trusty yelp, I found Eat at Rudy's.

Sat at the counter, took a brief look around the place and after seeing a bucket of house made biscuits, I immediately decided on the Country Breakfast - Biscuits with Sausage patties covered by Sausage Gravy, with two Eggs and hash browns. I ordered my eggs OE (over easy).

Coffee was immediately served - hot, but just your basic café coffee. Breakfast came out quickly - I generally don't order biscuits and gravy because I usually find the gravy kind of bland, especially if it's only made with sausage. I must say I was pleasantly surprised - the biscuits were excellent, flaky and rich. The gravy had bits of sausage and was properly seasoned covering some really flavorful sausage patties. A+ on this part of the breakfast!

I was disappointed with the eggs and hash browns. First the eggs; the whites were still runny and undercooked - almost like the pan was too cool when they were flipped over - surprising too, since I can't ever remember an undercooked OE. The hash browns were shredded potatoes and not much else - with the biggest problem being that one side was burned and the other almost perfectly browned but not quite.

I noticed some past reviews knocking both the hash browns and eggs, and would have to agree. Almost like the line cooks were on auto pilot and not really giving it their all.

The wait staff was very pleasant and efficient. I felt welcomed, even though I wasn't from there - and in fact the lady who was serving me asked if it was my first time.

Overall, not bad, 3+ stars however I would have liked to have gone with 4, but the eggs and hash browns need to improve.

Their turkey burgers here are fantastic. Fast & friendly service, juicy burgers with lots of flavor. I also had their potato salad with my meal... and I was stuffed for the next few hours. Thanks to my friends at Steel Flame for taking me out for lunch.

Damn, writing this is making me hungry again. And I JUST ate. :)

oh yuck. This place was dreadful. I read so many reviews about this place and was really enthused to find a new neighborhood breakfast joint. The service was fast and efficient, but not really friendly. The portions were large, which I don't personally care for but I know some folks like that. The corned beef was really bland. I am a huge fan of corned beef hash and have tried several types. This seriously had no flavor at all. I tried the jam that came with the bread and it was ok. My husband's pancake was doughy and flavorless.

They don't serve alcohol and the ambience was pretty drab. We sat inside, near the window. There was a group of cops sitting next to us prattling on about their dogs and a kid screaming two tables over. This was definitely an experience where a mimosa would have helped. I finished my food in 10 minutes and bailed. Usually when I go to breakfast I love to linger and relax, otherwise I'd just eat at home. Definitely a place to avoid unless you like the whole greasy-spoon thing.

I save 4 or 5 star ratings for places that I really like.  3 stars means just what it means: A-OK.  This is a local, cash only, diner that ended up being just what I thought it would be.  Good food, and lots of it.

I got in at 6:30 AM and I was one of three people in there... a good time to go.  I ordered one of today's specials, the Breakfast Burrito smothered in Chile Colorado.  To say it was huge is nearly an understatement.  It was HUGE.  I surprised myself and actually finished half of it, took the rest to go.  It was really tasty; it had chorizo, sausage, potatoes, eggs and cheese.   Their homemade salsa was really excellent (this was a nice surprise for me).,

So it wasn't the  cheapest place - $11.80 + tip for a burrito and a cup of coffee - but I suppose that's not a surprise in our current economy.

If you are in the Old Torrance area and are craving a homestyle breakfast, I say go, and go early if you don't like to wait.

As much as I want to like this place because it's close to home, they are getting too big and the quality is reflecting it.  Their kitchen is relatively small for the number of tables they are trying to serve.  Their cooks are cutting corners.  Their hash browns used to be grated potatoes.  Yesterday, it was mashed potatoes fried on the flat top.  There was no texture like you would get from grated potatoes.  I would call those "Mash Browns".  The sunny up eggs were a bit too runny.  Same problem I recently experienced at Joes which also is too big for their kitchen.

Awesome community breakfast place with big portions.

Tucked away in old town Torrance is Eat at Rudy's.. Eating here is a very pleasant surprise. The food has a very home-style feel too it, and the service is like your mom serving you. Having an outdoor patio enhances the breakfast experience (it's almost always sunny in Torrance).
Although a bit pricey ($8.95 for a breakfast burrito), a very quaint breakfast place.

This is a small diner in downtownTorrance. I think the quality of the food has really dropped. I have only been here for breakfast. My usual is a hamburger steak and eggs. Love all the condiments: salsa, apple butter for toast...The last several times we've been here, my meat was overcooked and dry and the breakfast potatoes were undercooked and still hard.

Been living in Torrance for about 2.5 years and have yet to find a great brunch place, until now.  I love Rudy's!

Rudy's is one of those old diners that most likely haven't changed since they opened.  It has that old fashion charm where you can get a good o' american breakfast. I ordered an omelette and it was great - tons of toppings and fresh ingredients, we also got the pumpkin pancakes (one of the daily specials) and it was super yum - perfectly moist and fluffy.

Also, Rudy's has the BEST mild hot sauce.  Who would have thought that an old school place like this would have amazing hot sauce?!  Totally homemade and went so good with my omelette..

I love everything about this place and can't wait to eat here again.

Oh, and the boyfriend loves this place because we found out that Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy) use to frequently dine here back in the days - and what guy doesn't want to be like Al Bundy.  :)

My babysitter took me here all the time as a kid! I recently reconnected with her and ate here for the first time in over 10 years. It's such a homely spot in the heart of old town Torrance with comforting and delicious breakfast foods/burgers. Although I'm not partial to them, everyone raves about the home fries. The service is great and the crowded-ness attests to how awesome this place it. Perfect for brunch on a sunny day!

I'm between a three and four star rating. I like this place 'cus it's literally down the street from me but then I don't like it because the service seems par. The food is okay and it's fast but the quality in a relationship or welcome feeling is just meh. I think my boyfriend and I are the youngest couple that come here. I suppose the servers have built a better relationship with the older crowd. Even so, I'd like a nice welcome now and then. Especially if we come every weekend now.

Without that complaint, the food is good, the menu is extensive enough for breakfast and lunch. The outside seating is nice and inside is alright as well. I can't complain too much about it because, really, I keep coming back.

been here a couple of times..

I will say that this place is just alright.

a lot of the dishes here are cooked as if I would make them.. nothing special IMHO. Either that says that their cooking is so-so, or if people _love_ their food, they'd think _I_ was an awesome cook.

It's an alright place to go for avoiding cooking on a Sat or Sun morning. A girl i was dating said it's just alright. Another friend I took here for brunch pretty much said the same thing:

    meh.

I'm sorry, I really wanted to like this place more.. /c:

Really a 3.5. Eat at Rudy's is a cute little breakfast place tucked away in Torrance. We got there at 9am on a Saturday and all but 2 small tables were occupied. There were families, a couple of tables with bikers in full leather, retirees, locals and us. We opted to sit inside because it was still a little too chilly in the shade for us. The tables inside are very close together which just added to the neighborhood feel.

We ordered the pork chops with eggs & hash browns and the machaca omelet with house potatoes. The pork chops were okay. They were thinner cuts of pork but were not tough at all. They lacked seasoning. We covered them in their house made salsa (which is delicious). The machaca omelet was not really what I expected. First, the beef was not shredded. They were more cubes of beef. It was covered in tomatillo salsa. The tomatillo sauce needed a bit more seasoning or flavor. The proportions in the omelet were off. Lots of cheese, a little bit of egg, a little bit of beef and lots of tomatillo sauce. The hash browns and house potatoes were very good. They had the nice crust that all hash browns and potatoes should have. We also had a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were home made and awesome. The gravy was okay. It needed more fat and flavor but it had a good consistency. I added a bit of salt and pepper and it was much better. I would have loved the biscuits with butter and honey.

    Postives:
    -Non greasy breakfast
    -Service was great
    -House salsa
    -Biscuits

    Negatives:
    -Seasoning

If we're in the area, we would definitely come back and check out the other things on their menu.

Pancake was the highlight of the breakfast- fluffy perfection. Others are just standard American breakfast faire. Bf's craving for biscuits and gravy was not satisfied with their biscuits and gravy as he cited the biscuit's consistency is weird and the gravy lacks some oomph. Biscuit's center almost has a corn bread dense consistency. It just tasted under baked/cooked to me.

Service is mediocre, there's a Hispanic tall guy who's very kind and fast though. I wanted to give him all the tips instead of the waitress who served with an attitude.

ALSO CASH ONLY. Wow I never been to a non asian place thats cash only!

This a great local place to eat breakfast and lunches.  On a nice day, you can enjoy your food outside amongst many of the table they setup on the sidewalk just outside the front doors.  The portions are good sized and always served hot!  They often have daily specials to choose from.  Almost all of the other reviews will speak for themselves, and validate this place so I wont waste your time with another "similar" review.

One thing to note though is that this place is CASH ONLY.  Also, seating can be limited in the mid-morning hours as this is probably one if their busiest/most popular times.

What a great neighborhood breakfast spot!  I had never checked out Torrance and was happy to find Rudy's on my first exploration.  The menu has most every classic breakfast item and there was a huge boar of specials.  To my excitement SOS was available and I didn't think twice.  I am sure I am in the minority here but SOS is a great dish and Rudy's delivers a beastly plate of the tasty gravy and bread concoction.  Home fries were very tasty also, really the whole dish was great!

In the world of SOS, Rudy's has one of the best, I am sure all of the other dishes follow suit, especially if they are drenched in that great gravy.

great little local breakfast spot if yorue in the old torrance area. Its good, hearty, and if youre in the mood for breakfast, they pretty much have it ALL. Their specials change periodically and are usually always solid. I just tried the chocolate chip pancakes and they were AWESOME! My sis is hooked on their biscuits and gravy breakfast they have.....i think she got that the past couple times we've been here. I usually switch it up between different omlettes...but this time i tried the rudy's special. Basically its chorizo and eggs with cheese, avocado, and tomato.....i loved it...paired with their home fries and a side fo toast.

For all of its sidewalk-cafe-charm, Rudy's is a lot like a very cute girl you're drawn to, with one very profound flaw you just can't see past.

Their breakfast menu is their strong point.  The John Wayne, the Rambo and the Breakfast Burrito are all good, but cleanliness has become a big issue.  The food quality has suffered in the past two years, and that's what has driven me away most recently.

When I had catfish there last year, I had food poisoning for over two days.  I gave them the benefit of the doubt and eventually returned last weekend.

After eating about half of my breakfast burrito, I noticed short metal pieces on my plate and inside the burrito.  So I'm thinking, are those staples?  Is it foil?  No, the waitress said the kitchen staff got pieces of their steel wool scrubbers in the food.  As a cook, how do you miss that?

I immediately lost my appetite.  The owner walked over, then comped my bill, which I thought was very decent of him.  But who knows what I ate up until that point, right?  Catfish, and now a burrito.

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.

I really don't worry about the inconvenience of Rudy's being a cash only establishment.  I don't worry about the limited parking at their front curb.  I don't even worry about having to wait for a table outside.  That is just part of the experience here.

I worry about Rudy's these days, they're that little diner I'm just not sure of anymore.  Like a super cute girl with a steady case of halitosis - I just can't see past her flaws.  Until Rudy's can clean up their act in the kitchen, I'm afraid I won't be going back again anytime soon.

This is a great little spot in Torrance. Yelp led me in the right direction once again! (No surprise there). Just got back from breakfast here, and the service and good were both wonderful. The place is literally tiny, but it's a Thursday morning after all, so steady customers but not crowded. My dad was super stoked on his John Wayne breakfast and I loved my multi-grain pancakes. They put a touch on cinnamon in the pancakes - that little touch made them super tasty. The side of bacon I ordered was a little sad - mostly fat and a little soggy. I like crispy bacon myself. But the pancakes were light and fluffy.

The service made me feel like I was at home. Our waitress tended not only to our every need, but was helpful to everyone in the place. Great place with great food. Bring cash!

    No nonsense hearty breakfast.

Their country breakfast has my heart. I am getting quite hungry thinking about it. Sausage patties, TO DIE FOR white gravy, fresh biscuits and homestyle potatoes.

Don't try to plan lunch or any strenuous physical activity, after starting off your day here.

My sister was a little offended that the hostess warned us that our 2 entrees were already pushin it for two little asian girls (obviously said more tactfully) but she had a point, omellettes (especially Rudy size omelettes) are better fresh.

Small place so on the weekends I'm sure the wait is horrible, but the service and cooking in quick and fresh and honestly down home good.

Rudy's is quite possibly the best breakfast experience I've ever had.

My friends and I arrived early in the morning so there was plenty of seating. The server was incredibly friendly. We ordered the food and it came out in no time at all. Then to top it off it tasted great.

We ordered French Toast, a Breakfast Burrito, and a Healthy Omelet.
All of the orders tasted great.

O, did I mention that the service is great? Because it is.

I haven't tried their lunch menu yet, but if you like breakfast style food, small diner feel, and great friendly service you owe it to yourself to try Rudy's

On a side note, when my friends and I finished and were leaving there was quite a line out front waiting to be seated, so make your way over a little early to beat the crowd. It's never fun waiting in line and watching other people eat when you're hungry.

I hate to be the only person to give this place one star.  Believe me - it doesn't take much to please me.  But I've never been treated so rudely at another restaurant in my life (with the exception of maybe a little snobby bistro in Paris).

Let me first say that the food was good.  I ordered the oatmeal - hardly an exciting breakfast food anywhere in the world.  My friend had the french toast and seemed to enjoy it.  The wait staff were quick to refill our drinks and were mostly friendly.  So I have no complaints with that side of things.

But from the very beginning, it seemed like they were in a huge hurry to get us in and out.   Not two minutes after we sat down, two different waitresses came up and asked us if we were ready, which we weren't, since we had just gotten there.  We ordered and received our food less than five minutes later - and the bill less than five minutes after that.  Now, I realize that some people really like incredibly fast service like this.   However, in light of what happened a little later, I did not appreciate this.  And let me say that my friend and I like to take our time, talk, and catch up.  We were in no rush.  It's why we chose a sit-down restaurant over McDonalds.

Well, just a little less than an hour after we had sat down, the waitress (Vicky) came up to us and, I'm not exaggerating, said "Guys, could you please leave?   We have people waiting for your table."  I politely asked if this was their policy, and she told me no - but that it was common courtesy, which I took to mean we were being DIScourteous by sitting and talking after we had finished our food.  We still payed an over 20% tip, left, and took a seat at an unset table outside.

Again, I realize that many people like to quickly sit down, order, get their food, eat, and leave.  But there are some of us out there who like to take our time, who don't mind waiting, who like to talk and relate with the people we're with.   I don't think this is rude or discourteous. Perhaps we are annoying to waitresses working on tips - which I can understand - but  I have never been asked to leave a restaurant.  I don't care how good your food is.  It's just rude and inhospitable.  I won't be coming back.

    Sorry Rudy.

    I LOVE IT HERE!
I live right down the street from this here and it is that PERFECT breakfast spot! The service is always top notch, super fast and the food is really good. It has a very old school breakfast joint kind of vibe, andI honestly wouldn't be surprised if one of the waitresses names was Flo.

I will continue to go here for as long as its around.

Met a friend here for breakfast recently.

I had an American cheese omelet with home fries and an English muffin.  Run of the mill breakfast joint, lots of food, very friendly service.

My omelet was huge, my friend had an omelet too, and with our food plates and drinks - there was no room for anything else on the table.  The potatoes are crispy and good topped with lots of ketchup and black pepper!

Tip: Don't sit in one of the 2-seat tables inside along side the wall if you can help it.  The chairs are so close to each other that I kept getting [strongly] bumped by the lady behind me even though I was almost sitting up straight with no room in between me and the table ~_~

Cute little place for a great breakfast.  Street parking.  Cash only.

I eat at Rudy's whenever I'm in the Torrance area. Great food, lightning fast service, and I can sit outside with my dog.
Favorite lunch so far is the Tuna Melt! Now I'm getting hungry again.

I was here yesterday for a late lunch. They open 7 days a week from 6 AM until 3 PM. They have several tables placed outdoors where you can sit. The inside is pretty cozy. The menu is very limited.. of course they have their daily specials on a chalk board outside.

I tried their Ruby's Breakfast Special... I have to say that I am not a big fan of their food. But the service is really nice and its really convenient for people that lives or works near old town Torrance :)

    My favorite local breakfast joint.

Service is fast and food is great.  CASH ONLY.

My favorite thing to look for in breakfast spots:  When they don't skimp on buttering the toast!!  At Rudy's every corner of toast is buttered! I love the lil things. =)

Another fav is they carry Cholula.  Most restaurants only carry Tapatio (bleh!)... but Rudy's knows best... they carry both!  Cholula wins!

PUMPKIN PANCAKES~!  It's a seasonal item and only shows up during the fall season, but when it's here, we take advantage of it.  In my opinion, it's their BEST pancakes and I really wish they'd make it a regular thing.

The Mister loves the John Wayne breakfast and the Sirloin Steak breakfast... I on the other hand like to keep it simple.  I often order the Rambo or a Denver Omelet.  I'm not a big fan of their chorizo & eggs breakfast, so I've learned to steer clear and order other items on the menu that I know I'll enjoy.  They also have lunch items if you'd rather have a burger or sandwich.  They always have specials... and the portions are HEFTY.  If you have my appetite, you'll need a to go box.

Anyway, there isn't anything special or unique about this spot... it's simple and service is extremely quick and very friendly.  Tip the waitresses & busboys well, b'coz they do a fantabulous job!

I ordered the John  Wayne, and my friend ordered the burrito special.  Both had similar sauces with chunks of onions, and potatoes.  The flavors were ok.  The eggs were cooked to perfection.  There is a lot of food on my plate.  Maybe too much???  Anyway, it's ideal for splitting a breakfast meal.  The coffee is also really good here...on par with specialty coffees like starbucks, and coffee bean.  This place is a good value for what you pay.
