I love this place but if you don't time your visit just right you will be waiting in line for a while, especially on weekends. The seating is a bit odd and reminds me of elementary school because you sit beside people you've never met before and the condiments are stung around the long table. It's fun for my boyfriend because he likes to talk to people and has a few regulars he chats with each time we're there. I love the food so much that I can deal with strangers for one meal.

The food portions are large, tastes great (no trendy food here, just ole american favorites) and the staff is great. We've been going to Joe's for years and wouldn't have it any other way!

Eat At Joe's - but I haven't quite figured out why.

Growing up on the East Coast, I can certainly appreciate a greasy spoon diner.  But it's been over 10 years since I left, traveling the world and settling down in Los Angeles.  During my travels, my tastes change, which is why I just can't decide on Eat At Joe's.

If I had written this review 10 years ago, I probably would have given the place 5 Stars.  The staff is friendly (the waitresses actually knew how to describe what the specials were) and the atmosphere is very much like a community, with folks from the neighborhood stopping by for breakfast and lunch.  The food and the clutter, though, I just can't get behind.

Today, I got the French Dip Sandwich with a side of cole slaw and my daughter got a hot dog and fries.  After watching plenty of Restaurant Impossible on Food Network, I've been keeping a "tongue" out for canned or frozen food.  My daughters french fries were Ore Ida for sure.  The hot dog was overcooked, but it's a hot dog and fries for a 5 year old, so I'm not going to complain about it.  I was worried about whether the french dip was going to be roast beef cold cuts, but it actually tasted like real roast beef.  I can't confirm that it was or wasn't, but I'll go forward thinking it wasn't.  The cole slaw definitely tasted homemade, and was a descent compliment to the sandwich.  The au-jous for the sandwich was hot and salty and meaty - descent au jous!

Other than the food, my other comment would be the clutter.  There is a lot of everything all over the place.  Eat At Joe's merchandise all over the place.  Jelly, creamer, mustard, dijon, ketchup, soy sauce, and hot sauce on every table.  Pictures of friends and kids drawings on the wall.  Again, all of this would be acceptable in a greasy spoon, but I felt really claustrophobic inside the place - like stuff was everywhere and I couldn't get comfortable.

My verdict is this - if you're looking for American comfort food at a local greasy spoon, this is the place for you.  For me, I'll save my money and go somewhere else more inspiring.

Joe's has really taken a dive. The quality and flavor has gradually decreased over the past year or two. We came in tonight to get dinner to-go. I noticed that several dishes were already assembled on plates and were microwaved (while still covered in plastic) when they were ordered. $9 is pretty steep for a microwaved dinner.

I've noticed that they're using more and more Sysco bulk, generic food service items. That might be why the flavor is declining. The meat on my burger was awful. It literally had no flavor.

Watching them cook (or not cook, really) in the kitchen makes me want to go elsewhere.

Very friendly environment. the services is great and the food is excellent. This place is normally pack in the morning (especially on the weekend, so COME EARLY and plan on waiting). The setting is like "school lunch table". No separate tables for party or couple, just all sit and bunch up together. If you are claustrophobia , I would NOT recommend this place for you. Though I'm a claustrophobia myself (but not intensive), sometime it bug me but I manage to try to get over it (though I have to admit, sometime it's hard to ignore it).

My favorite dish there is Veggie Omelet  w/o tomato and add sour cream to it. I ordered it every time I come here.

It's a small place but very pack and not enough waiter/waitress, so sometime when you request something, they will forget. We end up having to get up to get it ourself if really needing something (like refill our own coffee, silverware, napkins etc).

I definitely will be back and would recommend this place to my friends.

    7 Years.

    7.

7 Years is the time it took me to finally go into this place for the first time, how this hadn't happened before I'm still perplexed about, maybe I just need more friends, yeah that's it, let's go with that.

Eat At Joe's is a true South Bay staple and, for around 10 to 11 bucks you can pretty much get whatever the hell you want AND have loads of leftovers.

My first time at Joe's was this morning and after awakening to a miserable cold and sore throat and having nothing in the fridge, I determined that take out was in order. Remembering that Eat At Joe's was about 4 blocks away I pulled up the menu and had loads of options that interested me.

Knowing that there could possibly be a line had a backup of Whole Foods but to my surprise at 11am on a Saturday I got right in with a Parking spot, placed my order at the register (I had the John Wayne) and literally was out with my food not 5 minutes later.

    That's impressive.

The John Wayne was so good, HUGE and more than I could finish but so, so good.

Eggs, sausage, cheese, hash browns, Green Chili....etc etc.

Just a solid joint overall, next time I'll dine in, they have community tables and everyone shares so don't be shy or rude if you plan on getting your grub on inside!

Great diner for breakfast and lunch. You may have to wait in line (no sign up sheets) a bit on weekends but it's worth it. If you have a bigger group, opt for waiting in line by the entrance in the parking lot as that section has long benches you'll share with other diners.  I had delicious king's hawaiian french toast, with eggs and bacon (Conan Special). Very good. I'll be back.

The first time we tried to come and eat here we were discouraged by the line outside to wait for a table. 2nd time, we came a little bit earlier on a Saturday morning and decided we'll see how long the wait is. We were conveniently seated in about 5 minutes. Hurray!!!

Community table seating but there are a ton of seats inside so I didn't have a problem at all. I ordered the Tony omelette and it was superb. Comes with country potatoes on the side and bread (of your choice). I was down to the last bite before I decided to call it quits. Lots of food and very home-style cooking. Waiters are nice and very attentive to your needs. Love that feeling! I definitely will come back when I want a hearty breakfast.

This is my new go-to, reliable breakfast place since I just recently moved and now live literally right around the corner. Woohoo!

It's a great local spot that gets crazy packed on the weekends so be prepared to wait a little bit for a table. Definitely worth it though!

Last time I was here, I had the chile verde with eggs on the specials board and it was scrumptious. Super tender pork in a delicious green sauce over two perfectly cooked eggs.

They have a pretty extensive menu which I like. You can choose from a variety of delicious fatty dishes or even something healthier like an egg white and spinach scramble. It's all good, baby!

Their homestyle chili is also some of the best that I've had.

Never had a bad meal here in the 20+ years that I've lived in Redondo Beach and been a customer :) Always great service and friendly people, and I even like the cafeteria style seating. Good way to meet some new friends!

I'm sure I will continue to be a regular here for many years to come.

Food is generally good and reasonably priced. However, DON'T try to use the http://Restaurant.com app on your phone. They won't accept it!!! Cashier said that the owner will ONLY accept PRINTED copies of the coupons. If they are not honoring the coupons on the phone app, they should have it clearly posted. When we ordered, we showed the server the coupon on the phone. She said to wait until we paid our bill. That's when the cashier told us that she could only accept the printed coupon.  If they don't want to accept it, then they should say so when we order our meal. Poor business practice!!!

Unfortunately we did not even get to Eat At Joes because they would not seat us as we had a baby with us.  They seated two different parties with MORE people than us and left us standing on the street.  That is not cool.

If you have a baby, EAT ELSEWHERE.  Consider yourself warned.

Unlike my $7 Bristol Farms Cafe mashed potato fiasco of 2011, today I knew exactly what I was getting into when I order, yet again, mashed potatoes. You see, today, with the addition of three more dollars, I got my mashed with some corn, a wonderful biscuit, and a beautiful grilled salmon fillet.

The disappointing part of my meal, even with the five star rating, I must also tell. You see, the salmon did not need tartar sauce. It was carefully cooked and moist with just a bit of crust from the grilling. Yet it was also served with tartar sauce. The tartar sauce at Eat at Joe's is really good so while no one was looking, I ate that too.

Hint: my sad little AT&T phone has a yellow pages app pre-installed. That app has Eat at Joe's listed as Joe's Diner. So check for both when looking for this fabulous long bench home like restaurant. (Free Wifi)

I had walked from a nearby hotel, and they noticed I looked tired upon walking in so immediately offered me a water! Oohh thank god! lol!!! I liked the feel there it was just a really different feel there than most places I go. Food was awesome! I got biscuits and gravy and my eggs over easy. I love that everything was homemade! And the eggs were cooked perfect!

Today, the sunny up eggs were not cooked enough.  I understand there will be some uncooked whites and I'm okay with that, but you have to at least cook 90% of the egg.  About 30% of the whites were not cooked.  They are too BIG with a small kitchen.  Their cooks are going too fast and sacrificing quality for quantity.  The Chicken Fried Steak and biscuit were good.

One of the my regular breakfast joints, especially when i am hungover. Their hangover omelette does the trick. There is usually a wait (which is kind of a good sign because that means everybody loves their food) but everybody is quick to eat since it's community seating. The service is quick too because of that, and it's fun to make a few new friends while waiting for your food to arrive.

Their food is always hearty and filling, but sometimes it can be a little salty. I usually try things on their specials to spice things up a bit. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is my fav as well.

It's a diner you dummies. Great food, good service, and even when busy they try to keep things chugging along. This place is a diner, and they do breakfast diner style. It ain't the Ritz, but it's good. I even bought a mug for a friend. Oh, and get sides of the salsa or biscuit gravy for a little extra and dump it on the potatoes. Sort of like Animal Style at IN OUT? Yep. They have a great thing going on here and even sell history books about the neighborhood. Cool and  Yummy.

Went here last Saturday. Drove by there for yrs. and finally took the plunge. Food was ok. Nothing to brag about. My mashed potatoes are way better than EAJ. I do admit, the meat loaf and NY steak were good.  If I'm nearby, I may stop and grab a bite. I definitely won't go out of my way to come here.  I also hated the seating. Felt like I was at a school cafeteria. Dont like sitting next to strangers.  Fortunately, the coughing old man decided to sit somewhere else.

Order the ham and cheese omelette with John Wayne sauce, and fruit on the side. I should qualify this rating with some conditions - this is only for breakfast - and also limited to their Mad Dog Special and some of their omelettes and salsa! Coffee is pretty solid for a diner style restaurant, and compared to few other places in the South Bay. portions are pretty big too!
Ambience - Very Laid Back. Bench Seating (makes it feel like a friendlier neighbourhood diner) & Tables are available.
Service - pretty Quick and Attentive.

Not a typical diner at all!

Ate there this morning. All 5 grown-ups had very savory, flavorful, hearty breakfast fare ranging from beef stroganoff mad dog - freakin' heavenly sirloin sauce over a really nice cheese omelet - to chorizo scramble w/ rice n beans. They have a delicious, piquant salsa on the table, brought out another homemade habanero sauce, refill endless coffee, provide stevia sugar alternative. I actually boxed my left-overs to go, AND just ate them.

Sorry RB Pancake House, this is my new spot for breakfast with out-of-town guests.

The seating is family style on benches, which is not necessarily the most comfortable, but it works, if you don't mind sitting next to strangers. Service is fast and friendly. I had the healthy breakfast burrito with ground turkey and avocado- not sure how healthy it was, but it definitely tasted good. Would like to try for lunch sometime.......

I like diners, so I tried and loved Eat at Joe's. This is my kind of place. I wish it was a bit bigger and had more individual tables, but I will take it as it is.

Last time I was there I tried an old favorite Chili on Omelet and it was good. A good traditional version.

The time before I had the Chili Verde. Their version is good, very good. My wife ate most of mine, but I got to eat her Polish Sausage and it was again a good version (not of Chicago quality, but hey I was not in Chicago).

The food is good and the atmosphere is very relaxed.

Joe's is a Redondo Beach institution.  It's been there for years.  On the weekends if you get there past 10am, you can expect a line.

If you're in the mood for a champagne Sunday brunch, this isn't for you.
If you want a hangover breakfast or steak and eggs, you've found the place.

If you're really hungry, I suggest the John Wayne.  The Duke will never disappoint.

Communal tables, locals all around, hearty and tasty breakfast at a bargain price.

The ribeye passed our picky eater's muster, and our little one and i shared a gigantic burrito for breakfast. Potatoes on the inside, and the outside. What's not to love?

The parking lot in back is about 8 cars, so be ready for street parking if needed! The restaurant has 3 entrances, so it was a lil confusing, but we were seated quickly.

Quick and friendly service, good ol' home style cooked breakfasts! Worth a visit!

Joe's was a completely random Yelp discover. It has a complete local feel to it which I sort of liked. That type of feel when you come in and people know what you want and you talk about stuff that's been going on and how everyone is doin'.

As far as the food goes, it was alright. I tried the country fried steak. The steak was pretty fatty and super chewy all throughout the meal. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, though. My boyfriend had the pot roast which was good. Maybe I shouldn't review unless I've tried more, but this is what I got.

The tables aren't individual and you might end up sitting next to one or two parties.

eat at joe's is the definition of a local favorite. hearty food, good people, bottomless coffee. you can't go wrong with anything on the breakfast menu. everything is very good and very filling. the lunch/dinner menu is nothing special, but it's also pretty irrelevant cause what i really come here for is the classic breakfast diner food. their john wayne special, tony capozzola, and hangover omelets are some of my favorites.
there are a few individual tables and some more community tables in two sort of separate dining areas. everyone is super friendly so it's definitely a fun experience sitting around eating and enjoying the morning together.

First time eating at Joe's after a co-worker came back from lunch with a grilled chicken sandwich that looked just scrumptious! Decided to go today and ordered the same thing and of course looked delicious but after tasting it wasn't what I had imagine now don't get me wrong the least I can say it was edible...I guess the sprouts didn't do it for me on this sandwich and I'm a fan of sprouts. I can honestly say I've been spoiled by The Habit's chicken club that I thought it would live up to that expectation but sadly and disappointed it didn't.

I don't think I can accurately describe the awesomeness that is Eat at Joe's! I've been here more times than I can even try to remember. Now, I have friends that travel from as far as Canoga Park just to have a meal at Joe's. In all the times I've been here, I've never once had a single thing I didn't like, and the servings are so generous, I almost always end up getting at least 2 meals out of each plate! The few miniscule issues I've ever had here have been quickly and properly handled, so I have no need to elaborate more! I rarely give a solid 5-star review to any place, but Joe's, you have earned it time and time again.

Ok seriously, wtf is up with all of the good reviews? Maybe it's cuz there's not a whole lot of breakfast places nearby and people have been forced to eat subpar food, hence they don't know any better. I've lived in Redondo for years, yet for whatever reason hadn't decided to go here until a couple of weeks ago. Me n the bf usually go to our favorite breakfast place; Rudy's in old Torrance, but thought we'd try a new spot. Also what's up with all the empty egg boxes thrown out front? I mean maybe they think it'll impress, but it actually just makes the place look trashy.

Anyways, we went about 9. Place is super packed and the only seats were at the counter. We ordered the country breakfast, & also opted for the waffle, which my friend had raved to me about. Waitress was an older lady who was rather friendly. Coffee sucked, hardly had any flavor and when the food arrived it wasn't even hot. The waffle was really good though, soft, buttery & light. Other than that, food was bland and we were pretty disappointed. Bf actually got pissed at me, saying see what happens when we try something new? I agree, I felt like a traitor to our beloved Rudy's but just wanted to try a place nearby ya know? So yea, won't be back here again.

P.S. a little history; a chef and waitress who HAD worked here maybe 20 years ago, who are now husband and wife actually opened up Rudy's, as well as the Gaffey st. diner in Pedro.

Wow! rock and roll hoochie koo...this place rocks! Looks liek an ol' greasy spoon when you walk up but a good sign is at 10:30 AM and there's a big wait...hmmm...can't wait! Bit confusing as there's no host or sign in sheet. Walk in and ask the manager and in a california-cool-way says "Just wait outside we'll getcha." And he did. I guess it's like having a messy desk where you seemingly know where everything is.

Place is packed...we get seated...I get excited. The coffee pours and zooowie-momma that's one fine cup of Joe my friend. I drank three (insert Forrest Gump voice here). And I'm a one-cup-and-done guy.

There was so much to orderI couldn't decide and ended up orderign the healthy breakfast burrito. They set it in front of me and it's a white plate and a rolled burrito...pretty much it. Never judge the book by it's cover eh...truth to that.  was the absolute bomb! The chicken was so flavorful.

I felt a little cheated when I saw my wife's plate though; The Joe's Special - Bisquits, sausage, gravy, home fries. She saw me eye-ballign her plate and grabbed a knife and held it in hand like Gollum ready to defend her food ring. "Don't even think about it Husky-Pants, this is my breakfast plate!" Doh! Nah...my wife's crazy cool, she shared the tastes.

it's very apparent there's some serious old-school love going into the food here.

Mmmmm... chicken fried steak. Biscuit and gravy...

My Southern roots must be coming through a lot lately cause I have been jonesing for a good ol home-cooked breakfast quite a bit. Hence, why I've gone to this place twice within the past few weeks.

And although their gravy could use a little more pepper, it was still good with the fried steak and biscuit.

Love their OJ too. It tastes fresh squeezed.

There might be a little of a wait and it's somewhat confusing because there are two entrances but service is extremely friendly there.

Must go if you want a good breakfast or brunch spot to work off that hangover on weekends :)
