Best hairdressers in Vancouver, hands down! I have tried numerous placed here, all good in their own way, but this is the BEST! Such a relief.

No problems getting an appointment - I go with Kristi, who cuts and colors my hair perfectly! She isn't scissor happy, never cuts off too much, and has selected different colour combos I myself would never have thought of (purple and green, oh yeah!). Great decor inside, like an old lady's living room.

I will always come back here :)

I had my hair done by Sophie back when she worked at Barberella, and now that she moved, I figured I had an excuse to check out East Vanity. I called up to make an appointment for Saturday, but they were all booked up, so the lady on the phone asked me what I was interested in having done. I wanted to get some finger waves, or marcelle waves, sort of a 1920's hairdo to make me look all glossy and retro. The lady at East Vanity said I should come in on Friday - they had an opening at 7:30 so they could set my hair, as it has to curl overnight to be done right, and then I could stop in for a quick styling later on Saturday in between her other clients.

I can remember my grandma doing this with her hair when I was younger, and then puttin a doo-rag on it to keep it from getting messy. I also remember being super embarrassed as a tween when she would take me out with her hair like that. OMG Granny! Srsly?!

The idea of setting my hair kind of made me giggle. My appointment on Friday was with Kristi and must have been one of the last ones of the day, as the other customers were just about finished when I was getting started, and it kind of gave me a behind-the-scenes look at East Vanity Parlour. The girls were super nice, and engaged in conversations about "worst hair experiences" and I showed them my bleaching accident.... *cringe* and I really felt like I was part of their secret society by the time I left. You know, I was in with the cool chicks. Yes!

I came back on Saturday and Kristi combed out the curls and styled me up all fancy, and looked like I had just stepped out of a film noir movie - the dark makeup I had on probably helped a little bit. I highly recommend getting your hair done here, the girls are fabulous, and the parlour is super cute. They made me feel super relaxed and gave me some great suggestions on hair products for my specific hair type, so it will be easier for me to do at home myself. I would obviously rather be at East Vanity every day, but I got mad bills friend!

Well, it has been 5 weeks since my cut and color with Sarah O'Brien at EVP.  This is the second time that I have visited Sarah and I wanted to wait until my hair grew out abit to honestly rate how I felt about her "handi-work" and the quality of the color that she applied.

I am definitely a fan!!!  I have received many compliments on the shiny highlights that adorn my head as well as the shape of the cut.  Now I am an "older" woman so when I get that kind of feed-back, I know that something good has occurred.  A big thank you to Sarah (aka Pinky) for employing her artistry and cutting my wavy, fine hair in such a way that it just falls into a nice shape whether I let it dry au naturale or hot iron or curl it.  Sarah also spent time with me creating a color plan that will work with my "just starting to grey hair" - something that will conceal the grey that is coming in but also minimize the number of times that I will need a full color job.

While I was sitting in the chair, I noticed other clients getting awesome and creative cuts from the other stylists in this cute, little retro salon.   I'm sold!

Yet another stellar review for East Vanity Parlour.  First of all, how cute is the name?!  I'd walk in solely based on the look and feel of their shop, but this place has style!

There is a magazine rack near the front of the shop, but I was entertained just looking at the different art and furniture.  It's old school, punk and whimsical all combined.  I love this place!

My first visit was with Michelle and I hope to see her for all my future visits.  She is an amazing stylist who provided me with so many tips and tricks for my hair.  She took time to get all the little layers in and my hair turned out fantastic.  Did I mention I love this place already?

In case you want to take a look, their website is easy to navigate and there's a bio of each stylist.  There's a blurb about each stylist and the hours they work.

Oh, how I love East Vanity Parlour. Let's see, they have awesome, talented hairstylists who I (not so) secretly wish would be my friends, their prices are the absolute best in town, the parlour itself has a quirky, kitchy aesthetic that appeals to me, PLUS they have an excellent, convenient location on Kingsway and Broadway. What else could a gal ask for?

My stylist of choice is Michelle. Even though I'm going through an awkward grow-out, she still manages to make my hair look cute and stylish. The mini up-do she gave me yesterday left me as giddy as a school girl. You know how when you go to a stylist, and after they've finished your cut they try to style your hair, but you end up feeling self-conscious because you feel as though it doesn't quite suit you? Well, that has NEVER happened to me at East Vanity Parlour. Michelle and the other gals sure know their stuff, and I love seeing all of their clients walk out the door with huge grins and wicked hair.

Being that they are so awesome, I recommended this shop to my best friend, and she is now a regular here too. In fact, Michelle is doing the up-dos for the bridal party for her wedding. We are also getting our make-up done by the East Vanity girls, and I am completely confident that we will leave looking like some seriously hot stuff. I accompanied my friend while she got her trial hair and make-up done, and in the near 20 years that I've known her, I've never seen her look so good.

In short, if you're looking for a hairstylist in Vancouver, check out these gals first. The lack of pretentiousness here is refreshing, and you'll leave looking damn fine.

I love the retro vibe and interesting decor at this fabulous salon in East Van!  Heather did my hair for a prohibition themed party a while back and I got SO many compliments, it was unreal.  The best part was that I just sort of told her what I was wearing (I went retro men's style with pants, a dress shirt and suspenders) and she just made the hair fit the whole theme perfectly.  It also held up for an entire night of fun and even looked cute the next day after removing all the bobby pins and sleeping on it.

I would totally recommend this salon to anyone that's looking for a funky style or cut - between the girls at our party about 5 went here and the all looked fab - and you'll have so much fun chillin' & relaxin' in this cute beauty parlour.

I have had my head in all of the EVP ladies hand's, and it doesn't matter which chair I sit in, whether it's a cut, colour or an undo, I'm confident it'll be stunning. I love the decor and feel of the shop, and I've never left the place disappointed. All the ladies are true artists as well as being top of their game technically too. I'd recommend them without hesitation to anyone.

    Bravo!

I love this salon!  What a great place!  Thanks, Yelp, you helped me to find my new hairdresser.  Based on the recommendations here, I gave it a shot, and I was really happy with the results.

Kristi is awesome, and from the looks of things, the other stylists are just as good.  I have now received two excellent cuts, and have never gotten as many compliments before regarding my hair.  Even the men I work with have noticed, and that is no small thing.  And the salon itself is adorable - full of character, it's a very old, funky building, with a cool decor.  And NO SNOOTINESS.

The prices are amazing.  $30 bucks for a haircut if you don't get it shampooed?  Seriously?  WOW.  I'm SO HAPPY with East Vanity Parlour, right price, great stylists - I second the other reviewers who have pointed out that this is a shop with NO attitude.  Warm, friendly, well-trained, simply fabulous.  You can't go wrong!

Five Freakin hair happy stars of awesomeness!!

I have never had a stylist do what I want with my hair, I always leave a salon disappointed because I ask them to cut it a certain way and they say "no, can't do that with your hair."  (My hair is curly and for some reason stylists think that you have to cut it in the most boring way ever - I've tried all sorts of salons, expensive ones too.. always disappointed.)  Long story short - it was like the hair dresser could read my mind.  The cut was EXACTLY what I wanted.  It was Perfffect.  I was so impressed.  She listened to everything I said and totally delivered.

My sister also got a cut and came out looking like she had gorgeous celebrity hair.  She was so happy.  We were both happy.  We were grumpy when we arrived because of the rain but we left with radiant joy in our hearts.

Also - love the casual environment.  A lot of salon's make it feel like you have to dress up to go there and you feel uptight.  This one was so relaxed.  And another bonus was the price was great!!  Thank you ladies of EVP!!

I woke up this morning, and my hair cut just fell into place. It was amazing! Thanks soooo much Sarah!

East Vanity Parlour will definitely be my go-to salon!

Sarah was so down to earth and honest with me about getting my long blunt boring tresses shaved off into a pixie cut. After talking about the pros and cons of this, I opted for an expertly tousled bob instead and now my hair has attitude like its never had before (in a good way). The best part is that I don't have to change my lifestyle to suit my hair!

If all the exclamation marks I've been using thus far aren't convincing enough about EVP's awesomeness, check it out for yourself!

Aside from the icing-on-top of the shop being adorable and kitchy and the stylists being super hot stuff, I LOVE east vanity because they simply do a great job and are fair with pricing.
In addition to the wonderful haircut and colour i received, I was blown away with how warm and friendly and genuine all of the stylists in the shop were.  It was the first time i'd been in a shop with NO attitude.  I kinda felt like I was in Dolly Parton's hair salon in Steel Magnolias... and i mean that in a good way.

THUMBS UP, Ladies!! You do great work!!

over 3 years ago I found this shop, and haven't looked back. such good-natured folks with AMAZING hair skills- what a superb combo! Want a cutting edge style? They'll nail it. Need a trim and JUST a trim? They're not scissor-happy amateurs and they'll take off just what you need. How about hair colour that actually matches what you're imagining? Done!

Certainly what I consider fair pricing, and willing to give an honest quote right up front before you start... if you've ever had one of those nasty surprises when you get out of the chair, you'll appreciate this like I do.

A team that really seems to care. Go give them your business- they deserve it!

Went to EVP for the first time today for a cut by Heather.  I am a difficult customer (or rather my hair is)...  I've got natural curls that frizz and fuzz when you even glace at them.  Also, I'm pretty wishy washy about what I want.

Heather did a great job and gave me an updated look (I've had the same curly bob since about 1987).  When I got home, I rinsed it out, conditioned it and put my own goop in it. Looks fab!  My only criticism is that it could have been styled better and that it looked when I left the salon like it did after I rewashed and put my own goop in it.  But, maybe once Heather is used to my hair and has cut it a few times this will be the case.

All in all, it was a really positive  hair experience and I will be going back.  Very affordable and because it is, I'm able to leave a better tip!  I agree with the other reviewer that said it's the first salon I've been in where there is NO attitude.  Friendly, welcoming and just plain great!

Moving to a different place is never easy and finding a new hair stylist is one of the biggest challenges. I trusted my unruly curls to EVP based on these reviews and wasn't disappointed. Sarah B. was gracious, thoughtful and skilled. The cut has done well and I got good advice on caring for it.
Thanks, Pinky and EVP! And Yelp. You've all helped me settle in a stressful time.

I didn't visit East Vanity because it has a solid five star average rating on Yelp. No, and I didn't visit East Vanity because of the vintage kitsch pinup style that reminds me half of Slickety Jim's and half of my most intimate girlhood fantasies. I also didn't visit East Vanity because it's a couple blocks away from my house, or because it's right next to a vegan-friendly burrito joint.

I didn't visit East Vanity because the staff is foxy, friendly, and well-dressed, nor did I visit East Vanity because it seems like the place that all the cool kids go. I didn't visit East Vanity because I knew that I could trust my whole year of messy grown out hair to any of the stylists there because they're all incredibly good at their jobs. I didn't even visit East Vanity because the haircuts are $30 (without wash)!

All of those things are true, yes, but they've been true for a while, and I only went to East Vanity for the first time yesterday.

So why did I visit East Vanity? Because I'm friends with one of the stylists, that's why. But even if I weren't, after my experience there, I'd go back. Why? All of the above, but also, while I was in there getting my own overgrown mop sheared, there was another girl in there who walked in a knitter with self-proclaimed "Hermione hair", and walked out a changed woman. There was a spring in her step as the left the salon with her perfectly styled haircut that complemented her natural curl and her face shape, that was indie-cool as hell but still suited her look. It was magical, my friends. Magical.

My love for East Vanity Parlour may have had an accidental beginning, but it certainly knows no bounds.

My most recent trip to East Vanity Parlour I went in with an idea in my head and a photo on my phone and what I walked out with precisely matched those two things.

My stylist is Sarah and she is absolutely fabulous. I have really frustrating half wavy half straight hair and she cuts to it perfectly. I've had trims from others before when out of town and every time people comment on how good the cut is and how well it suits me.

With the colour, it was about $170 which is nothing considering we had about four colours put in with a bleaching. I've had streaks done for over $250.

The girls are all really lovely and knowledgeable, they're really reasonable and the spunk of the shop is to die for. Plus they've started offering courses in fun things like curls and beehives!

Looking for a hair cut or style - go to EVP.

The absolute best hair place in Vancouver to walk in and declare "I'm bored! Do something fun!"

Hot, tattooed hairstylists with a fairly constant stream of some rockin' burlesque talent through the doors? Check.

Michelle is my gal of choice, but Heather suits the Mr.'s needs perfectly and Kristi can whip up a beehive like nobody's business.

You will never see me headed anywhere else. If anything, I'm trying to figure out how I can spend more time there. What's the best way to tell your hairstylists that you think they're all super cool and you just want to be friends?

A tiny little hair salon where Kingsway meets Main, EVP is a beauty with purple hair and Doc Martens. The stylists have secret identities as some of Vancouver's best burlesque dancers, and their salon has an old school charm dripping with sass. I've always been happy with my hair when Michelle has worked her magic, and a lot of friends with equally fabulous hair go to East Vanity Parlour. It's quickly becoming a favourite of Vancouver's Social Media scene, and we all look awesome.

Got a haircut from Heather a few weeks ago, since my usual hairstylist just up and left for Toronto to work for Toni&Guy,  and I cant express how much I am loving my new hair! I just let her work her magic and all I asked her really was to give me something that needed minimal upkeep and suited my face, and that is exactly what I got! Love the ambiance of the store and the fact that there is none of the senior/junior hairstylist crap that i absolutely hate. Did not so much like the receptionist though, who might just be one of the hairstylists. All in all, great place, very reasonable prices and Heather is my new hairstylist!
