I'm of two minds when it comes to East Side Mario's. Part of me applauds it for managing to keep the 80s/90s trend of 'family restaurants' alive when every moxies and earls in Vancouver has begun marketing itself as a 20-something hot spot. So yes, it maintains the loud, crazy crap on the walls style that everyone else has swept under the rug of pretension.

That said, it's swept under the rug for a reason. I can never go into this place and have a regular conversation because I'm always trying to yell to the person next to me. If you can't stand kids it's not a good idea to go here either as it is aimed more to them than anything else.

That said, cheap and reasonable tasting food is plentiful here so, whatever floats your boat.

" :( ," said my stomach, as it quietly digested the slightly watery sauce on my noodles  and the overcooked shrimp.

":( ," said my boyfriend's wallet as he paid for our $40 disappointment.

Badda Boom Badda Bing Badda BLAH!!

Worst.  Chain.  Ever.  I can't think of worse place to eat dinner.    I should have read the reviews below.  FORGIVE ME, YELP!!

A rundown: my soup was cold, there was a hair on my plate, my food came from the frozen section at Costco (I can't prove it, but I suspect), the sauce was jarred, the service was slow, the chairs were too high, it was waaay to noisy, my server was too peppy, the candies were lemon and my Bellini was creamy.  Wait, what?

I know i should know better than go to chains.  But I live in Langley.  Chains are all we have.  It's a sad necessity of life out here.

    So in summation: SCREW FLANDERS.

    Too cramped.

I have to start this review by saying the ambience could be changed in this restaurant. The tables are way too close together, I feel claustrophobic sitting there. I've been there three times now.

Our first dinner, I ordered Chicken Parmesan, which was supposed to come with a pasta. Mine arrived with grilled vegetables. When I told the server, she said, "No, thats what it comes with, and thats what you told me you wanted." So it was like, fine, I'll leave it here on my plate. Don't worry about it.... So, although obviously it was a mistake, she just ignored the large pile of vegetables and took my plate away eventually.

The next visit, we asked to sit outside. We were a party of four including young kids. We were the only people sitting outside. As our food arrived, they seated a party of 5, mid to late teens right beside us, even though the whole patio was empty and they were rowdy even on the way to the table. We then got to experience them swearing loudly most of the time.... it ruined the experience. If your only job is to seat people, how can you keep your job?

It almost seems arbitrary who goes first as I have seen people go in in varying order regardless of arrival time and party size. Probably going to skip for a while...

I totally love eating at ESM in Langley. It is actually in the parking lot of the Colossus movie theatre and is convenient.

The food is great, it is clean and a family dinner out doesn't cost the world.

I always tell my server if we are heading to the movie and what time, so they are really good about getting us our food with loads of time to make the show.

I thought the Olive Garden was bad until I tried East Side Mario's. Service was really slow and food didn't have any flavour.
