Review from Darren M.
Ottawa, ON
If you're ever given the chance to be welcomed inside this beautiful manor, don't pass it up.
This is the home for the British High Commissioner to Canada. However, the mansion used to actually be the home to Prime Minister Macdonald and other wealthy locals.
The grounds are very well protected and well manicured and the house, though quite old and likely a little drafty as it's located on the Ottawa River, is quite stunning inside.
The grounds and house are not open to the public but the residents will often open their doors to the public for Doors Open Ottawa (a must on that weekend) or for other big events by invitation.
There are so many aspects of the house which don't appear to have changed. They do have modern office equipment inside the home but it blends very well with the historic nature of the place.
If the doors are ever open to the public like they often are on Doors Open Ottawa weekend I would encourage you to check it out.
