It definitely bares saying: I do not hand out flowers easily. I work hard for my money, and since I own and operate a business of my own, I am indeed very picky as a customer..( not my fault.. I just have standards.. high ones!)..but this is EXACTLY why you should absolutely believe me when I say that you should check this place out!
My boyfriend took me today, during open gym hours ( he does have a membership there.. while I do not... yet.. but am seriously considering getting one!), so we could "throw down" a little.. drop some weights ( ya bail, if ya fail! LOL).. without making a scene ( I dunno.. the happy people leading the "Goodlife" don't like us making too much noise when we train.. and arguably.. throwing down huge weights in a crowded gym might not be considered safe.. HA!)..Anyway.. had a lot of fun there. Was quiet, we did out workout, no attitude was given from anyone there, staff and owners are friendly and welcoming, facility is clean.. music is right ( not too loud.. and angry enough to fuel your workouts!)..equipment is quite varied, so you could actually give yourself some really intense and inventive workouts , there..
While DCC isn't a place I would recommend to everyone a beginner starting their fitness journey, it is definitely a place I highly recommend for those who have done the gym scene long enough, are bored with the gym equipment typically found in fitness facilities and/or just want to go "play" and lift :) -

If you want an insane workout that has you basically blinded by sweat, checkout Dynamic Conditioning Center (front entrance is on Yonge Street). It's an unconventional gym, with no equipment or techno music playing. It's an ass-kicking training facility with activities such as: jumping in an out of a monster truck wheel, and bootcamp style obstacle courses. It's neat how you're trained by using your own strength and resistance, rather than relying on a boring elliptical machine.
I joined DCC in January, where I've been taking Mauy Thai training 3 times a week (2 hours each class). Blaise Ambrose is the trainer, and is great - apparently a lot of people who train with him followed him over to DCC when he moved from another gym. The classes are totally hard, but adrenaline keeps you moving. Also, with someone as competitive as myself, I am driven by looking around and wanting to punch or kick harder than anyone else in the class. It's a good motivator.
Other than Muay Thai, there's Bootcamp classes (female-only ones as well), Rugby Training, and Yoga on Sundays. They also offer personal training, and medical therapy for sports injuries.
The only bummer about this place is the price. They work on a punch-card system - for 8 classes is $147, and for 16 is $200 (cards expire on the last day of every month). For Unlimited training, it's $300/month. Pretty steep.
If i were rich, I'd totally train more (or ever right now). It's just kinda expensive to fork over each month. Waaaah. -

If you've read my other reviews, you've probably come to the conclusion that I'm a bit of an athletic snob. I'm not a fan of "fans" and "fitness". I need to break a serious sweat to consider calling an activity an actual workout.
So, when I heard about DCC, "the athletic playground", I was skeptical. If I wanted to play, I'd go to a public park.
Of course, I was wrong (as usual, always a doubter).
Play is definitely involved, but certainly of the "no pain, no gain" variety.
The DCC gym is unlike any other gym I've ever been to (I've been to a whole lot). For starters, the first thing that will catch your eye is the man-made, astro-turfed strip running from wall-to-wall with a hill. Oh, the pain you will endure on this strip... in a good way, of course.
There's also monkey bars, a universal, fire hoses, mats, a huge tire, sledgehammers... all with which you train (get worked).
Basically, it's like a fun bootcamp (if you can imagine saying those two words in the same sentence).
Highly recommended for all serious athletes, even just for occasional cross-training.
