Smoked Meat Sandwich & Poutine Fries Upgrade....

Not sure if its because it's one of the only places that serves comfort food this late at night, or its because it's actually good. Apparently this is where all the college age kids dine at for their late night Poutine cravings.

I would say Denny's but with Canadian staple dishes.

This place has very very average smoked meat.  It's not a place for having a supper, but more a place for a late snack after a night out. It doesnt compare to a good smoke meat place in Montreal.  I just wish i did.

Recommended as the Late Night fill-er-up destination this 24-hour Deli had it's share of rowdy sketchy drunk passer-bys which didn't make sense for the staff to sit everyone at the corner while windows-open so disturbing idiots can ruin good meals for customers.  Yes, it's a good space to people-watch but not all people are worth watching.

The Dude staff was quite friendly while I notice the Lady was less so.  Good thing the Dude waited on me and no harassment as to why I only ordered one item on the Menu or why I opt for Tap Water.  I gave him the proper instructions and off he went to retrieve my Food.  I did however wish the Food came in a bigger dish as my chowdown had Meats & Pieces flying every which way and I didn't want to recover the bits from a potentially dirty Tabletop.

    Montreal Smoke Meat(Fat/$6.99)

That's correct, I asked for FAT selection of the Montreal Smoke Meat.  The Fat dribbling down my mouth with the savoury flavours of the Smoke Meat making me go back bite after bite.  At that price, it's worth it's weight in Canadian Dollar($).  That'll be Loonies not Bills.

Ok is the best word I can describe Dunn's. I think I still prefer Zack's for late night dining or the poutine shack next to Zaphods and Barefax. I've never had anything that made me say "wow! this is tasty". It's all been mediocre. I had a burger tonight and I thought "wow! this is a burger"... There's nothing special about it besides the fact it's fast and reasonably priced.

I went to get some groceries this morning before work and saw there was a breakfast special.  I dropped on for the 3.99 special between 6am and 11am.

I was seated immediately and they took my order.  The special with a coffee is somewhere between $6-$7.

Breakfast arrived quickly and I had a few bites.  I never thought I would give a low rating for breakfast but this place was pretty bad this morning.

The bacon was bad.  Thin strips that were flavourless...well maybe tasted of cooking oil.  The potatoes were really starchy, warm and a few I bit into tasted slightly sour.

On a side note, to the 2 guys behind me who were talking about porn...that's fine and all but when you're sitting across from each other and decide to browse porn on your phone in a restaurant...actually I don't even know what to say.  Please go home to surf porn or rent a room...but not in public guys.

The menu says "brisket", but if you're from American (and especially the south) don't be fooled. This is not your southern smoked BBQ brisket. It tastes (and looks) more like a softer, weirder tasting corned beef (and very fatty... whereas southern brisket can be cut lean). I was not a fan, but Canadians love it. Just shows that taste is subjective. If you ever go there, just don't expect the "brisket" from southern America.

After a more than terrible night at the club, a few of us wanted to do something to replace our memories of earlier on in the night, so we came to Dunn's at around 2am. It was packed with people, mostly from the bars. I had never been to this location before and it was actually quite large.

We were seated right away and I have to say that our waiter was fantastic! He served us quickly, and was very friendly and funny throughout the whole time we were there.

My friend and I ordered their breakfast. She had two eggs sunny-side up, with whole wheat bread and ham. I ordered my eggs fried, with rye bread and bacon, and I substituted my home fries for poutine. I didn't realize that my fried eggs weren't sunny-side up like my friend's, and I was kind of disappointed, but it was my fault for not clarifying. My friend's ham seemed like sliced deli ham that was heated up in a pan, but my bacon was thin and crispy. My poutine was made with home fries instead of fries, and was actually quite good. The breakfast plates also came with an orange and kiwi slice, which was great to cut the grease, and we ordered whole pickles on the side.. just because.

My boyfriend ordered a club sandwich, and it came with fries - a lot of fries, that is. He ended up just being all about the fries and took the sandwich home.. which we are currently eating right now, the morning after. It's really tasty now, and it definitely would have been even better last night.

The only problem I had was the washrooms. The stairway alone smelled like pee, and the stall doors didn't even close, much less lock. Another girl even waved to me through the space in the door while I was waiting for a stall to be free, since two of them were already occupied and the third one looked like someone's butt exploded. Big EW.

Dunn and Dunn, this is the place to go to sober up after hitting clubs or to read a paper and have a quiet breakfast. Overall my experiences at Dunns have been pleasant all except the near death experiences I have when I head toward the restroom, watch that first step - -Seriously its like a break neck doozy.

I asked where the restroom was they told me just around the corner, groggily I walked to the corner where the young waiter had pointed me. Turned the corner where I would have expected to be greeted with a hallway but paused mid step with my foot dangling over the cliffs of insanity.
When you turn the corner its not a hallway but a long steep stairwell and in most establishment you have a few feet of warning. Not here nope. Its turn and burn if you are not paying attention.

My first thought was very Amelia as I walked down the stairs; I wonder how many deaths have occurred on these stairs, 7 maybe? How about broken bones? That has to be at least in the double digits.

To get the full dunns experience go at 2:30 AM on a Friday and watch the wildlife.

This popular late night grub place is open 24 hours and is popular for their smoked meat which is really good. They have a sandwich deal daily which includes a smoked meat sandwich, fries, coleslaw and domestic draft for $16. I went for their breakfast on a Saturday morning. The service and food is consistently good. They have breakfast specials during the week which includes 2 eggs, meat, home fries and toast for $5.

A large, well-lit, and clean restaurant across from the Courtyard Hotel on the edge of the Byward Market area.  They serve a generous Montreal smoked meat sandwich that begs to be acompanied by poutine.
