Who knew Dufflet made such tasty lunch food items!!
The other day I joined a friend for lunch in The Beach and she suggested we meet up at Dufflet's.
I didn't even know they served lunch food and it was great.
I ordered the mushroom and barley soup and it was so tasty with a taste of lemon. I love it. Came with a nice side of lavash-like flat bread with herbs. yum! My friend tried the bean burrito. Hit the spot.
Afterwards we treated ourselves to some of the to-die-for sweets in the display case. I tried the key lime mousse in a chocolate graham cracker shell, while S. went for a nutty butter tart treat.
Super friendly staff too! -

Okay ... so I tried the carrot cake and I can't stop thinking about it ... the frosting is just so rich and sinful ... YUMMY...
The cake itself is thick, heavy, and sweet and there is no way you can trick yourself into believing it is healthy.
But the winner has to be the frosting ... I wish I could replicate the recipe and spread it on whole wheat toast. That way, it would be more healthy, right?1 Previous Review: Show all »

I was meeting a friend one afternoon along Queen St. East and he suggested meeting at Dufflet. He said he was dying to have a Lemon Tart. I've heard much hype about Dufflet bakeries and was curious to try it out for myself. We got the Lemon Tart and a Ginger Cookie. Nothing big, just a little taste :) The Lemon Tart was great! If there is a ginger cookie on the menu it's always what i choose, and i've had many many ginger cookies as comparison. It was great. Very gingery and a great balance of a little crunchy around the edge and soft near the centre. I'd definitely get it again!
I want to give a 4star, but considering i've only tried 2 things, I'm going to see what more of their goodies taste like on my next visit... -

Never again. The most rude and dishonest staff I've ever encountered. After meeting some friends for coffee and dessert my husband and I had to leave early so as a treat we picked up the bill on the way out and made it very clear to our server and the cashier that our tab was covered....not 20 minutes later these same women gave our unsuspecting friends the bill! How DESPERATE can this company be for cash and tips?!

Yum!
Dufflet is an extremely cute pattiserie, where the aesthetic matches the product really well.
I'm actually not the hugest fan of desserts so I might not be the best judge but I will say that I really enjoyed Dufflet's hot beverages and little tarts. Since we had a 2 for 1 slice coupon (thank you Toronto coupon book) we got a carrot cake and a chocolate layer cake. Both looked and tasted really flavourful and rich, but not overpowering.
I also got a keylime tart, where the shell was chocolate flavoured. This really titillated my senses however my cake-mates found the taste to be strange.
Dufflet is adorable and appropriately paired with other adorable shops in the area. Knowing that it hosts private parties gives me just one more reason to move to Toronto. -

Sweets, Sweets, Sweets!!
Dufflet Pastries has gained great reputation for their cakes. Pastries are also delish! If you just want to satisfy your sweet tooth they have a variety of fresh baked goods that will make you want to come back for more. The Molten Double Chocolate Mini is a 'must try.'
I have tried two locations, one on Queen West(west of Bathurst and the other on Queen East(near Woodbine Ave) and both are always filled with customers.
The Queen West location, you can find some seats at the front of the Cafe, however, it tends to be filled all the time. More often customers just buy sweets 'to-go.'
The Dufflet cafe on Queen East is lovely. There is enough room for the customers to sit and relax. The simple and modern interior located at the back, facing a small garden, makes the visit more enjoyable. -

Yesterday was my first time trying Dufflet. WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING!?? I know this place is fairly well known, but I had never come across it before. The shop is in the Queen East area, which is near the beaches. I've been to the beaches, but never traveled up to Queen. Plus I'm a Queen West girl!
The shop is extremely clean. I didn't plan on buying anything, I just wanted to take a peek at all the goodies. But I couldn't resist. Everything looked perfect, from the cookies, to the cakes, to the date bars! We ended up getting a Molten lava cake. The lady heated it up and we gobbled it down!
The smoothest, richest, and most chocolaty cake ever! Inside there was the melted chocolate sauce, which wasn't too liquidy but just perfect! The little small piece costs a bit under $5. A little pricey, but it's a treat, not something I'd buy on a daily basis.. So I'm ok with the price.
You can buy larger cakes and tortes. 6" signature cakes and tortes range from the mid 20s. And 10" in the mid 40s! I may try one of the cakes, it's hard these days to find quality cakes and pastries. it seems everyone freezes things now. Just not the same! -

Where have I been all this time? Went in with a friend yesterday for the first time, tried a mocha cake and it was delicious! She had a vanilla cupcake that was a bit dry but overall it was good! Cute store!

I have NO idea why Dufflet gets such rave reviews.
I went in today (Sunday) for a treat during our dog walk.
The two positive things I can say about this place are:
- awesome location
- super cute and clean inside
Now for the rest:
- The service was HORRIFIC. If the owner/manager reads this review, check who was working on March 20th. I swear food/coffee tastes better when service comes with a smile and some cheer. The girls here were low energy, unfriendly and downright rude. I get it, it's Sunday, but in the middle of the afternoon your hangover should have worn off. My fiance asked what kind of cookies were on display. The girl shrugged and said maybe chocolate freckles. Then he asked what nuts were on them. Again, she shrugged and said she had no idea. With no intention of finding out. Then he asked if they were chewy or crunchy. Again the shrug and then she took a piece of paper and proceeded to touch all the cookies to see. I feel if you work somewhere shouldn't you know what the items are and what things taste like? Another girl took the rest of the order and rung him in - and she was equally unpleasant and dismissive.
- The treats and coffee? Meh. My latte was mostly foam and not very warm but okay. We got a ginger snap, a chocolate cookie, a butter tart and a s'more bar. My butter tart was pretty tasty but nothing to write home about. The rest all tasted like something I could buy at Safeway or Starbucks (no offense to those places - I just feel from a specialty bakery they should be better) Totally not impressed.
It's so cute and sweet inside, I wish I felt better about the place -

december 24th around 3pm, maybe: husband and wife decide to go to i deal coffee, then the running room in the beaches; while taking the streetcar notice that i deal is closed, continue, make a bet between them which is further east, woodbine ave or victoria park ave. husband wins (one million points).
december 24th around 3:10pm, maybe: husband and wife exit streetcar, in the rain, husband being ill-equipped with hiking boots that are not waterproof and there are puddles. deep ones that the chicken must cross to get to the other side of the road.
december 24th around 3:15pm, maybe: husband and wife are reminded that there is a DUFFLET PASTRIES in the beaches, as they pass by it momentarily, and still aching for a good espresso drink, decide to stop in. i mean, after all its DUFFLET.
december 24th around 3:16pm, maybe: husband and wife, walk into the most stressed out store ever.
december 24th around 3:26pm, maybe: husband and wife cover more ground by going separate ways. she orders espresso drinks and pays for them and what her husband decides to get for treats to eat. husband takes pictures, decides what he wants to get (1 chocolate chip cookie, 1 small buttercream cupcake, 2 heart shaped cookies - after all this outing is romantic.), and thanks his sugarmama for the goodies.
december 24th around 3:30pm, maybe: husband and wife, now re-paired at the cash witness an argument between two co workers who proceed to look at us for acknowldegement as though we were the referees. we stare at them blankly.
december 24th around 3:32pm, maybe: husband asks his wife if shed like to have half of his one bite cupcake as they both sit down for a moment in DUFFLET, and (predictably) she says no (thank you.). husband takes a bite and after a second or two and a lick of icing off his fingertips, wife (predictably) says husband is a jerk and asks for the other half of the cupcake.
december 24th around 3:35pm, maybe: husband and wife leave, preferring the pouring rain to DUFFLETS current negative vibe on christmas eve (even though theyre both jewish).
december 24th around 3:45pm, maybe: wife discards an unfinished latte on an outdoor shelf at some home decor store because its so bad she cant even drink it. husband says something like "wow" since hes never seen this before from his coffee guzzling wife since he met her. husband isnt enjoying his latte that much either, but is too cheap to buy another one.
december 25th around breakfast time (12:00pm), maybe: husband finishes off the last bit of his large crumbly, ordinary chocolate chip cookie and decides he will never go back to DUFFLETS for coffee for sure, cookies perhaps, but from his lifelong experience, knows, albeit vaguely at this moment, that their cakes are the prizewinners that people seek out.
december 26th at exactly 2:30pm: husband finishes this review while his wife is out getting a latte. -

We booked Dufflet's dining area for a private party. Cutest little private area with big windows and natural light. The staff were extemely accomodating and flexible given that we would be occupying the space for a couple of hours. We ordered a couple platters of pastries, as well as a chocolate layer cake with buttercream frosting and fondant decoration. The cake was absolutely beautiful, customized to our request and it tasted absolutely wonderful. The cake evoked memories of a chocolate layer cake from childhood where I have never been able to find a replacement. The frosting was the perfect consistency, not to heavy or light, nor too buttery or sweet, which was good since the chocolate was so delicious. It was one of those moments when all I could say was "Mmmmmmmm" after taking the first bite. There were so many pastries to try. Rave reviews from my friends about the lemon tart and chocolate eclairs. I had a chocolate mousse tart which was also good, where you taste the cocoa and not too much sugar. I'm sure there was plenty since I was on a high for the rest of the evening. That did not stop me from picking up a few items for the week. The display case just had so many lovely things to choose from!
We paid just over $30/person for the party. It's a great option compared to something like high tea. We had plenty to eat and drink, with the comfort of a private area and freedom to run the party as needed. Thanks Dufflet! -

Dufflet, a place well-known for their birthday cakes and other delightful pastries, can be found in the midst of numerous patisseries and bakeries in the Yonge & Eglinton area. For those who have been to Dufflet before, I'm sure you know that they don't have labels nor prices in front of their cakes. It's a little troublesome to ask the staff about their wide array of pastries because it can get pretty frustrating for both parties. I selected a dacquoise ($4) which is a cake usually built with layers of almond and hazelnut meringue and buttercream to hold the layers together. Dacquoise can also be used to describe to the nut meringue layer itself. It is extremely light, airy, chewy, and separates easily. The top layer of dacquoise is covered in white chocolate with a swirl of caramel. The layers of dacquoise are bound together with coffee buttercream that complemented the sweetness of the dacquoise and white chocolate. The rich buttercream along with the nutty meringue was just heavenly.

First tried their pastries at a bakery stand at St. Lawrence Market. Incredible stuff and when I was last in Toronto it ended up being Passover and I was invited to a seder in North York. But where to get a gift? I thought a nice Kosher for Passover pastry instead of a crappy botltle of Manischewitz Wine. Nice idea in theory but finding something decent? Good luck in downtown Toronto. However, I ended up at Dufflet because I found out on their website that not just is the owner Jewish but she has an extensive line of KforP cakes at decent (for Passover, mind you) prices! So I went over to Queen and got a Mocha Meringue and took it back to my hotel and then to the seder. Great move. Incredible layer after layer of meringue filled with mocha mousse in between. Something you just won't find in the states. Dufflet should get six stars (after all, the Star of David is six sided) for going to extra mil....I mean, kilometer! for doing some this extraordinary. A must for Passover or really anytime.
