I found this room online for really, really cheap ($60/night). I wanted to spend my budget on eating out and on liquor, so I was prepared to suffer with a horrible room and just hoped I didn't come back with any infections or bed parasites in my luggage.
Surprisingly, the room was immaculately clean, large, and comfortable. The decor is rustic and the furniture was a little scuffed, but the bed was great and the washroom was newly renovated. The customer service (at the adjacent Ptarmigan Inn) was excellent. Overall the experience was very pleasant and charming.
For $60/night in Banff and a complete absence of weird blood stains, insect swarms, or severed toes in the ice bucket, this place is one heck of a deal. -

Without a doubt, this is the best inexpensive Banff accommodations I've ever had.
Hoping for a quick weekend getaway, we managed to get a room at the Driftwood Inn for $60/night and were not disappointed.
Tucked beside the Ptarmigan Inn, the Driftwood is their budget friendly property. However, this doesn't mean it's a fleabag hotel. The rooms are clean, the bed was comfortable and the amenities were great, locally made soaps for the bathroom and the option of hearing an elk mating call on the in-room phone.
The only downsides were lack of a bar fridge for left-overs and the TV was outdated. Still, who comes to Banff to watch TV?
There was a little bit of noise bleed from the hallways, but nothing so deafening as to keep us from sleeping.
Added bonuses include free access to the Ptarmigan Inn's pool and fitness facilities, free wi-fi, and a "Best of Banff" discount booklet for a variety of local businesses. Finally, the Driftwood is pet friendly as well.
Also, the staff were fantastic, everyone from the humorous and entertaining front desk clerk to the quiet and polite housekeeping staff to the hotel bartender were a pleasure to deal with. More so, because they're obviously allowed to have personalities instead some kind of customer-service costume.
Those seeking first-class accoms and absolute peace and quiet might not find the Driftwood Inn to their liking, but if you're on a budget, or want to spend more on activities, eating and shopping then on your hotel bill, then the Driftwood is a comfortable, economical option.
