Review from Simon K.
I had this as a spot to visit as a recommendation from a family member, but more-so on the dessert that was topped with 'pop-rocks', unfortunately on this visit, there was no pop-rocking happening in my mouth, but a light dinner with two of their rolls ordered.
This place is small, when you see it, even though it's got a corner spot, you go in, and you feel a little cramped, talk about being up close and personal, the tables are small, the seating is tight, it gives it that intimate feel, if you like that kinda thing! I came with a friend, and it was early, so we had a good seat where they collect the $$$, and quickly had our menus in front of us. When I turned over to the rolls page, I was greeted by a very colorful, vibrant menu of 'interesting' rolls, this place makes. Two full on pages of rolls, priced at about under $9, or in my mind, they better be good if I'm paying these prices.
We ordered two rolls: Lover's Roll, Ocean Dragon Roll. Yes, odd names indeed, especially the first one, as we were two guys sitting in this place, and ordering the 'Lover's Roll', I'm trying to remember if I said it, or I just pointed at the item through the pictures?
The rolls were presented nicely (if you've ever been to Ebisu, Kamei, it's the same), long plates, all positioned for your smart phone to pop out, and snap that picture and post to everyone who is following your royal highness what your popping in your stomach! I am going to say I need another crack at this place, one for their dessert, and two, just to try their other rolls that spiked my interest.
I've walked past here a few times, and because this place is small, it does fill up, don't bring any big parties here, it's not going to work in your favor! Another thing, this place is not Japanese run, they were speaking some pretty fluent Mandarin in here, but it didn't deter from the quality of the food. Parking, well this is telling you, if your on Main, your paying, go a few blocks in to residential, then you won't have to worry about the money your plopping in the meter, and you can spend it on some more grub here!Listed in: Where do I get the raw fish, I…

I just found this restaurant was highly rated on Yelp! However, I didn't think it meet my standard.
I agreed the food was cheap but poor quality!!
Toro sashimi was a bit fishy = not fresh!
Sockeye salmon sushi was tiny and dry!
Chopped scallop cone was soaky!
Amaebi sushi was awful and fishy!
Tai was tasteless!
The volcano roll was ok. -
Review from Alice A.
Personally I'm not a fan of fusion style sushi - the ones laden with mayo and sweet sauce. This place seems to specialize in them.
We stuck to our preference, salmon sashimi (thin and average), pork gyoza (factory made, average), dynamite roll (pretty good, but not great), and unagi roll (which is a personal favorite).
Not cheap, not bad, not Japanese run. If you're in the area and craving sushi, it'll do, but I won't go driving to Main St just to eat here. -

Good value and delicious sushi. My favourite in the area.

It came highly recommended by multiple friends. Unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The fish in the sushi rolls did not taste fresh, the shrimp in the ebi sunomono tasted off, and the quality of the sushi rolls was not consistent.
I am sure the place is good, but we unfortunately didn't have the best experience.
The employees were very friendly and we enjoyed the service there. -
Review from Louise G.
Wandered in here late Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. We'd gone into starvation mode where our ability to make good choices, or any choice, is severely diminished. We had originally vowed to find the first parking space and go to the restaurant close to the space. This didn't work out completely as planned because closest restaurant was too scented... so we went into the second closest being Dream Sushi. Thank you Fate.
Peking Duck Roll: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Delicious. Really a treat. We were tired and kept forgetting what we'd ordered. But this one we won't forget. Dream sushi? Yes!
Ocean Dragon Roll: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Included tempura battered oysters. Tasty.
Unagi and Saba: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Very delectable BBQ eel (unagi) and the mackerel (saba) was a nice change.
Chicken Teriyaki: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Came with a miso soup, and a bowl of rice. Veggies were fresh and still a bit crisp, not overdone. Chicken was tender and juicy and cooked to perfection.
We ordered when we were too hungry but managed to eat everything. All Delicious. Decent prices for good quality sushi.Listed in: 365-Day Challenge - Review A…, Food Porn, Mainly Main, Sushi

Good sushi. Pretty classic Vancouver.
Quality rolls. Good price. Chinese owned and run.
Nothing to rave about but definitely nothing to complain about either. -

I came here for an early dinner before an actual real dinner since I was craving sushi and wanted to try something new. The place was pretty packed but we managed to get a seat. The service was great; they were super friendly and always refilled our tea, there was no need to ask. The special sushi were a little expensive but it was worth it.
We ordered:
Dragon Roll: These are the best Dragon Rolls I have had and I have tried a LOT of dragon rolls. It was flavourful and the unagi was fresh.
Dream Roll: The dream roll was not as good as the Dragon roll. It was still good though. I am not big on spicy stuff but that didn't stop me from eating more.
Tofu tempura: The tofu was fresh and well battered. The sauce for the tempura was bland though, so the tofu tempura had no taste to it. I took the tofu tempura home and just dipped it in Spicy chili sauce.
All in all I would probably go back again to try their other specials and I would totally recommend this place. Just don't get the Tofu tempura. -

Having passed by many times, the wife and I finally ventured in to Dream Sushi last week for lunch, and I have to say I'm sorry we waited so long to try it out! The lunch special is really great value, and they do brown rice sushi which I'm a big fan of. Everything was frsh, tasted great and was served with a smile.
Looking forward to making Dream Sushi a regular haunt (and trying the deep fried banana!). -

This place is OK, decent quality but nothing special. Being gluten-free, anything with tempura, teriyaki or the regular soy sauce on the table is off-limits, however these guys do have gluten-free soy sauce available! So points for that. They specialize in the chef's recommended rolls that mostly feature cream cheese and lots of tempura and teriyaki, and some unique combinations with fruit, salsa, etc. I've been a few times, and this time I had salmon sashimi and an avocado & cucumber roll, and both were fine. My friends and I were also going to share one of the chef's special rolls, one of the few that appeared to be totally gluten-free, listing spicy tuna inside with tuna tataki on top. To be fair, we should have double-checked (even though the server knew my friends, who are regulars, and knew that 2 of us were gluten-free), but when the roll came to the table and I took a bite, I discovered a tempura green bean inside. Right away we called over the server and explained we were unable to eat it, that the menu didn't say it had the tempura in it, and we wouldn't have ordered that if we knew. She said she could not cancel it because we had already received the roll. This is what I found a bit off-putting. I don't think it had anything to do with her, I think it must be the restaurant's policy. But to me, they should have replaced it with something else, just as good customer service. It's not like we ate most of it and then claimed we didn't like it, we took one bite and realized this is not what we thought we had ordered. The friend I was with is a server as well, and she also felt that they should have replaced it. It's not a huge deal, but when there are so many restaurants to choose from in this city, I will probably go somewhere else.

Now I know where to satisfy my sushi craving in this neighbourhood. They are reasonably priced and the sushi is decent. Warning to people with wheat/gluten allergies (or just people who don't like tempura), however: they make their spicy tuna rolls and spicy salmon rolls with flakes of tempura. It drives me crazy when sushi places do that (I ordered the spicy tuna roll for FISH and RICE!), but here they re-made the rolls for me without the tempura, so I was happy.
You can get a dinner special for $12 which includes your choice of three items (maki roll, sushi, curry, etc.) + salad and miso soup.
Overall, solid choice. -

For fast, delicious, friendly and fairly cheap - this place RULES. Tempura salmon with avocado? Yes please. Deep fried banana with drizzled chocolate and pop rocks for dessert? Pretty much.
As for take out, they still use styrofoam and plastic bags. But they are happy to pack it up in your own container if you ask first.
Recommended to everyone. But please refrain between 5 and 5:30 on Wednesdays because that's when we go and we'd like to have a table. Thanks. -

I wasn't madly in love with Dream Sushi... they are overpriced ($8.95 for a 'special roll' that would be 5-7$ elsewhere, $4.50 for an averaged sized sunomono), and the service wasn't fantastic.
The food was okay and they had some innovative roll choices, but for the atmosphere, price and service it wasn't anything to rave about.
I might go try again, but I'm not rushing to. -

I was disappointed with the service here, I would rate it as below average. The waitress did not know the menu well at all, and she described the deluxe sashimi items incorrectly. Also, she seemed very abrupt and rushed, considering there were only 3-4 other tables occupied in the place.
Service aside, the sashimi was fresh. The tako and red snapper were actually soft and moist, unlike most places where they are hard and chewy. The sockeye salmon was delicious. The chopped scallop and saba could've been better. The saba was a bit dry.
The spider roll was crunchy and was a burst of flavour in my mouth. I would come back to this place to try their other specialty rolls and have some fresh sockeye salmon. Overall, a good experience. -

I eat here on the regular for lunch and occasionally dinner. The service and food is great, although I wouldn't say it's the best sushi in town....but it's also not expensive. Brown rice available and the chicken teriyaki is great!

The decor was bad and did not seem very clean to me.
The service was poor they lack looking at the customers to see if there are any needs. You have to shout out your needs. It took a while to get my bill.
I ordered teriyaki chicken, California roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The spicy tuna roll was fishy tasting and this means that it was not fresh. I am lucky I didn't get sick. The California roll was ok, and the teriyaki chicken was good.
I will not be back. -

Dream is Chinese run and not authentic; but the rolls they offer are so creative and so good. Their pricing is pretty low compared to their portions so it's great for value. Their menu is colorful and I don't remember what we had but we all had a great time and was impressed by the selection. You can basically choose anything and it'd be good; I'd stick with the rolls though. The agadashi tofu was just okay.

Even though the owners are not Japanese, they have done a wonderful job of creating an awesome menu and everything is always fresh.
My peeps and I go to Dream about once a week and have always had great service, even when it's slammed.
The prices are very affordable and you can order brown rice & healthy options such as veggie rolls with flax seed. They also change up their special rolls & make them very inventive. Coconut on my sushi? Yes, please! -

We stumbled across Dream Sushi entirely by accident, and only because SD Galleria across the street was closed. I'm really glad we did. This place offers a huge variety of sushi rolls and bento combinations, including brown rice substitutions for $0.50 on all dishes. Totally reasonable.
They have a specific veg/brown rice menu that has some fresh- and tasty-looking rolls. I wish I had seen it before I ordered. They also offer miso and meat-broth ramen, tempura of multiple varieties, spring rolls, veg and meat gyoza, and so on.
Their lunch combinations either come in a predecided format or you can choose multiple items from a list. I thought this was a great feature.
I found the staff very accommodating and polite - there was one really demanding douchebag in there who wanted everything customized and when it came out according to his specifications, he complained that it was wrong - and it wasn't - I listened. But the server was super polite about it.
After eating here I wanted to go back for supper just so I could try more of the menu!Listed in: Shushi

One of my favourite sushi spots in the city. The sashimi is extremely fresh and reasonably priced for a platter of salmon and tuna. The specialty roll list is fantastic. I highly recommend the rolls topped with mango slices. The brown rice rolls are interesting but nothing extraordinary. I found that some of the specialty rolls are sometimes over drizzled with their special mayo sauce, however, that is my one and only critique. This place always satisfies my raging sushi cravings! I always appreciate the great presentation and amazing ingredient combinations.

Did I dream after eating here? Sure did, but I forgot what it was about. Pretty sure it wasn't about the sushi.
Of course luck had it that my attempt #3 to Toshi Sushi failed as they were closed for vacation, this was the Plan B.
Yes their special Chef rolls looked cool and innovative, like the Peking Duck roll. But me being the cheap mofo I am, I couldn't justify $7.99/roll. Maybe next time.
We ordered the appetizer tempura (prawn, veggies), and tuna & salmon sashimi (decent portion). We also ordered 3 different simple, staple rolls. The sushi rice was a bit soggy, maybe non-fresh batch or too much vinegar. They were also rolled a bit loose. Tase-wise however, it was standard Chinese-owned fare.
I'll give it another shot and splurge on the special rolls.
PS - Their White and Brown rice sushi 'mascots' remind me of mini-wheats. -

Ever since we moved to the Main Street 'hood, we've been in search for a great sushi place. We fell in love with Dream Sushi after having their Crunch Roll (a great roll with coconut topping and mango!).
The staff is always friendly, the prices are wallet-friendly and the teriyaki is great. They offer these great lunch and dinner specials where you can make your own combo for a really reasonable price.
Make sure you try their tempura banana. If you love pop rocks, you'll love this dessert. -

Dream Sushi is definitely my favourite sushi joint on Main street. It's a smaller restaurant that fills up quickly at dinner time. Lots of cute messages from previous guests on the wall.
They have awesome lunch (2 items) and dinner (3 items) deals that won't empty out your pockets. They also have tons of fancy rolls to choose from their chef's specials. My favourite is the Dragon roll (bbq eel and avocado).
Don't forget to try there tempura banana dessert with pop rocks! -

I was walking down Main St. shortly after this place opened and saw the adorable letter from the chef/owner in the window - I can't remember it verbatim, but it made me insist on trying the food - I'm so glad I did! My friends, roommates and I come here so often that we frequently run into each other at the restaurant.
Good prices, brown rice (with flax seed) available for all rolls, wild salmon, delicious creative rolls (though I am usually too cheap to order them as they're all about $8 ea). Their lunch and dinner specials are a really good deal and come with large portions, soup and salad. I've actually had to take part of my dinner special home before, which I would guess is practically unheard of for a sushi restaurant box/special.
Highly recommend their spicy salmon roll.
Service here is great, and the servers are very tolerant of any special requests, which is great because I like to add things to my sushi and very attentive. -

Best sushi in the Riley park neighborhood. Seafood always fresh, service efficient, however, not the friendliest. I would compare it to the service at Hon's, but if u just want to curb that sushi fix, this is the place. Takeout is super fast.

Honestly, this is probably the best sushi place that I have been to in a LONG time.
Very delicious, everything was totally fresh.
Prices are very decent for what you get the dynamite roll is quite large and CRUNCHY delicious, not that soggy prawn you get sometimes.
I plan on coming here again and again and showing everyone I can this amazing sushi place hiding on main! -

I got take out from here one evening and it all started off pretty well. The food was made within a reasonable amount of time, even though the restaurant was fairly busy.
My avocado roll was delicious and fresh, and the brown rice was good too. Kappa roll was also good. When I opened my veggie tempura box, I was pleased to see some mushrooms and green beans, in addition to the usual yam-zucchini combo. It tasted pretty good too.
So why only one star? Because right under a piece of yam tempura, I saw these three little globs. Upon further inspection, they proved to be some kind of deep fried meat. Probably chicken or pork, but I was too disgusted to look any closer into it. Good thing it was at the end of my meal.
When I called the restaurant, they informed me that yes, this does occasionally happen because the vegetables for the tempura are cooked with the meat. UMM WHAT??? Not OK. They offered that next time I came in, they would give me a complementary order of veggie tempura. Right, because I'm ever going to eat from this restaurant, let alone the offending dish, again. Eventually he agreed to give me my money for the tempura, but this took quite a lot of convincing and I spoke with three different people.
Bottom line: unsanitary cooking practices. I wouldn't even recommend this place to my worst enemy. Shame, because it looks so cute and clean form the outside. -

Finding Dream Sushi, was quite similar to the name's suggestion. Starving on the way home, my fiance decided to stop and feed me before I turned into a hypoglycemia monster. Good decision.
Upon reading the menu outside, the selection hit me first. Being pescatarian, anyone who has a wide variety of vegetable maki and dishes alongside beautiful fish immediately gets a vote from me. Once inside the door, the friendly atmosphere and seemingly happy-to-serve staff started our dining experience off right.
The rice, is almost more important to me than the fish. I look for room temperature, soft, glistening rice with no vinegary taste. I'll be honest in that Dream's rice is not the best I've had in the city, but I certainly wouldn't kick it out of bed. Creative rolls worth trying definitely made up for the not-perfect-for-me rice but are fairly pricey for sushi. The vegetable udon was a bit bland for my taste, but togarashi fixed that in no time!
I loved their crispy agedashi tofu, if not completely traditional, and we have been back many times since and while my fiance has had a few less than happy experiences with semi-frozen fish, we continue to return.
While not my favourite place in Vancouver, Dream continues to be a reasonably priced alternative. The kicker? They are also on YummyWeb and DELIVER!
Definitely a spot worth a try in a blossoming area of Main Street. -

My first ever Yelp review is for Dream Sushi cus fittingly enough, I daydream about this place all the time. Chef Ken used to own/run Sushi Maki on Hornby and Nelson then moved to Commercial Drive and is now on Main in an area with surprisingly few sushi joints.
The fish here is truly fresh and the quality superior. The tuna toro sashimi with yuzu is so exquisite it will make your salivating glands hurt. You can't go wrong with the chef's special rolls. And if you have room for dessert, ask for the profiteroles with pop rocks! Not very Japanese but guaranteed explosions of deliciousness in your mouth (and throat)!!
It's not cheap, but not expensive either. I usually end up spending $30-35 just for me but I am known to stuff my face when I'm there.
And I agree, not a great date place, lights are very bright and not romantic at all. But staff is great! -

This place is pretty damn good, and priced totally reasonably. There are like a hundred or so colored love notes from previous customers pinned to the walls, and every one of them is a raving review...I almost began to wonder if they were real, honestly.
Either way, the service is fast and the fish is very fresh. Nice hole in the wall joint on a stretch of Main with very few sushi spots. -

We love this place! It's like Cheers when you walk in, they greet you like you're an old friend. The fish is amazing- sashmi portions are huge. Definitely recommend the $13 dinner special- you get three rolls of your choice, soup, salad and tea- and it's wonderful. Atmosphere is light and friendly, they have cards from previous patrons up on the walls, cute.
Food: Great! They will make you custom rolls, have a large selection of their own rolls that are fun to try. Have fresh catch of the day that is wonderful
Prices: Great! Very reasonable prices.
Atmosphere: Great! Friendly, wonderful service.
Downsides (if you have to name some): good for a "get to know you" or "already know you" kind of date but it's not a real romantic place. -

I went here for the first time the other night with my girlfriend. We both loved it almost immediately!
The prices were definitely reasonable ($2.50-$3.50 for rolls, etc.) They also have some excellent special rolls, such as the White Snow roll (excellent, btw).
They pretty much all sounded delicious, and we very creative.
I also appreciated the natural-colour ginger, as well as all the notes on the wall raving about the place and offering much needed assistance in making a decision!
The staff were very nice and always kept the green tea topped off.
If you're on Main and want a good sushi experience, I definitely recommend Dream. -

Dream sushi has some pretty interesting and tasty rolls and I love that they have yummy brown rice available for order. I love the special rolls; the Aloha roll was so amazing who would've thought to put coconut on sushi but wow yum! The downside to this place is the prices, those special rolls are not cheap and their are other cheaper options on Main street. So I like to save dream sushi for when i'm trying to mix it up a bit and get bored of my regular places. head a couple blocks behind the restaurant for free parking :)

This Main St. gem has been open less than a year, but it has quickly become our neighbourhood favorite. We're approaching a dozen visits and every time the fish has been quality and fresh. The service is unusually good for a small sushi joint. The lunch special at $6.50 always seems like a steal.
Last time out I tried the Peking Duck roll (chinese bbq duck) which was a revelation and the spicy tuna roll is the best I've tasted. The tempura bananas with handmade ice-cream and pop rocks are a must too if you're visiting for dinner.
I haven't been disappointed yet. -

When you walk in here you know it's going to be good. It's clean and the restaurant was pretty full. The sushi was rolled in toasted sesame seeds which adds to the taste of the food. I usually go for the Teriyaki beef which is nicely done on top of rice. Most other Japanese restaurants are just average the food here is really exceptional. May be pricey but worth every penny for the quality.

In the mood for extremely fresh sushi and 80s music? Dream Sushi is the place to be! Not sure what to order? Give the Peking Duck and Black Pearl roll a try. You won't be disappointed. Ambiance is casual hence the 4 stars. If super casual is what you're looking for... It's a full 5 stars!
