As a certified comic-book-geek, I can say that i love this store. It has been my 'home' comic book store for ages, and even though some stores carry a lot more toys and look fancier, you will not find a better shop in Toronto.
In addition to carrying older titles and paper nostalgia, what Dragon Lday offers is a lot more than just merchandise. It is a place where the staff earnestly knows their stuff, and is more than happy to chat with you about your purchase, or help you find just what you're looking for. If they don't have it, they'll order it; if they can't get it, they'll tell you where you can. -

Even though this place smells like a mix between my parents' basement and an unwashed body crevice, I know if I'm ever in need of vintage ads with Planter's peanuts or feminine hygiene, there's a place in this city to get it.
However, I mainly went to find a bunch of old National Geographics. No luck. Time, Life: they're both there. Just no NGs.
But then I turned around and saw the file divider labeled "Ads With Undergarments", and I forgave this place forthwith.
Move over, National Geo. You're on notice. For tonight. -

I've visited Dragon Lady for a number of years, but only recently have decided to make it my default comic store, even though it's 60 kilometres from my house.
It's odd, because it seems to be clinging onto some former identity. The majority of the store is taken up with old magazines and catalogues, either in whole or in clipping form. In the back of the store, you'll find a great selection of back issue comics and trade paperbacks and a rack of the current comics and some older ones.
The best thing about the store, however, is Joe, the manager. Joe, befitting his position, has an encyclopedic knowledge of comics. Whatever you're looking for, whether it be superheros, horror, espionage or teen drama, he'll be able to point you in the right direction.
It's also true that Dragon Lady has a terrifyingly broad selection of materials for sale. If you want a '50s mens magazine, or a movie mag from the '40s, or a tv guide from the '70s, or a Tiger Beat featuring the Monkees, they'll have it.
But as comic shops go, it manages to combine a decent selection and helpful staff. A lot of shops can give you one, but there aren't many that can give you both. -

dragon lady.
lets start there. who the hell is the dragon lady? i want to meet her. or maybe not. she doesnt sound too friendly.
well the store is. its friendly with hundreds and hundreds of old magazines edtions like LIFE, TIME, etc. this seems to take up most of the stores space. as you make your way to the back, if you are so inclined, (as i was inclined to skip the magazine section despite its seemingly encylopedic proportions), youll find a mixture of classic comic book characters and some graphic novels as well. they seem to have the most popular choices in this regard and the overall feeling of the store is very nonchalant and quiet.
i would come here more for the magazine collections as an idea for a gift, and of course, if the price were right, a comic book. -

I have never been one for comics, to be honest it's the exorbitant price you have to pay just to get an illustrated story that has always put me off. Dragon Lady Paper Nostalgia is definitely the place for me. While I don't follow any of the current plot lines I do have a general knowledge of the main characters who generally populate the Comic genre, which is why I love the 50 cent bin. It is almost impossible to buy anything of value today for 50 cents, I honestly can't bring one to mind, so for me to pay 50 cents to get a comic book is a steal. I mean come on even Archie costs $5. The second reason that I think that you should go to Dragon Lady is the help; it's not that he's overly helpful but there is a wisdom about him that can only come from comicbook store guys and you have to experience it to understand it. I would highly recommend this store to comic connoisseurs and amateurs alike because it's a fun store with substance.
