I'm a dental avoider. I hate dentists. Hate may not be the right word. I'm terrified of dentists. I actually get teary while sitting in a dentist's chair cause I'm so worked up.
So I had avoided going to the dentist for years. When I finally worked up some nerve, I called a number of dental offices, and eventually booked an appointment with this one because the receptionist was warm, patient, and happy to give me as much information as I needed to get past some of my fear.
The clinic itself is big and busy. The layout is interesting; it's situated primarily underground, but has sunlights for some natural light. It's clean, and shiny, and has a fishtank, which gives nervous nellie's like me something to focus on.
I was booked in with Dr. Al Attar who was utterly patient and gentle with me and explained everything as he did it. The hygienist I saw on my second visit was equally patient and accommodating. I felt supported and cared for and will actually make it back for a six month cleaning, having conquered some of my fear with this clinic.
It's not getting five stars because it's still a dental clinic - still expensive for those of us without coverage, and still scary and hard to navigate. Perhaps if they had a petting zoo in the waiting room...
