Review from Chelsea D.
Queens, NY
About once a month, I go out to run an errand that I usually run, but for whatever reason - a good mood, a bad mood - I get distracted by every other store and cute restaurant along the way, and I pop in and have to buy something. I found the Doughnut Plant on one of these trips. As soon as I walked in and saw the donuts covering the walls, I knew I had the grab a donut. So I ordered a creme brulee donut (for $3.75 or some other such overpriced nonsense, oh the things New York has made me ok with!) and carried the bag all the way home to Queens.
I got home and unfolded the paper bag top to find this: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
"Another day, another doughnut, have one on us!"
I was so excited. Did this mean that I could get a free donut? But then I opened the bag and found two! donuts: http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Next to my creme brulee donut was a blueberry cake or muffin one. Both of them with delicious. The creme brulee tasted exactly like the dessert: the sugar coating on the outside was exactly like the burnt sugar top, the inside tasted like perfect creme brulee custard. I was very pleased. The other donut was great as well... lots of blueberry, very moist, excellent! -

TOO LATE! We came too late! During my friends' and I's foodie tour around NY (almost a year ago, btw, this isn't recent, but vivid in my memory) we decided to hit up Doughnut Plant to see for ourselves what all the hype was about.
Too late, because right when the taxi dropped us off, they closed their doors.
How is it they get five stars? The manager from the inside, who was preparing to clean out the shelves, saw us standing helplessly like a bunch of orphaned kids outside the sealed doors.
Out of the graciousness of his heart, he opened the doors, and gave us his VERY last doughnut...a glazed cinnamon doughnut that we all took a pic of with our smart-phones and pieced off for each of us to enjoy.
That doughnut tasted great! I'm not sure how much of it was from our minds, but shit, it was a good doughnut and the dude let us have the last one after closing up.
As I always yell to my Chicago Bears fan of a friend, IN YO FACE!@!! -

We had to check out this place after seeing how many different types of donuts they offered. There are so many cupcake places nowadays but how many places make a peanut butter and jelly donut?
I tried the salted peanut and blueberry, my boyfriend got the vanilla bean and Cinnamon roll. The salted peanut was my favorite out of the two I tried. The saltiness of the glaze with the peanuts made for a great flavor.
If we lived close to this location, we would eat here everyday. -

Doughnut Plant got too popular for their own good.
Since the lines at the L.E.S. location can get ugly, I decided to get smart and visit the Chelsea location instead.
This second location is bigger and has more seating available. Check out the pretty doughnut ceramic tiles that line the seats and walls, made by Mark Israel's father who's a potter. There are also big donut pillows on the wall which makes this location much prettier than the first one. They also offer fresh juices (strawberry on the day I went) coffee and tea.
It was such a beautiful, warm day in NYC that I was in the mood for walking, so I went ahead and ordered FOUR donuts for me, myself and I. (why yes, I left my guilt outside the door) They offer the ever popular creme brulee, but I skipped that to try other flavors:
CHOCOLATE CHIP -- how can you resist? it's like a cookie and donut in one! chopped chocolate chips and walnuts with chocolate glaze before being rolled on chocolate chip cookie crumbs.
ROSE PETAL -- a vanilla flavored donut filled with rose flavored cream topped with an edible rose petal and glazed. The hopeless romantic in me was all smiles! it was fragrant and addicting, especially since I'm a huge fan of floral flavors.
TRES LECHES -- make sure to get the cake donut (not the bread-y, yeast one) this is a glorious concoction of evaporated milk, condensed milk and cream. Perfectly indulgent but doesn't get too overpowering.
BLACKOUT -- ready for this? a chocolate fudge infused chocolate frosted chocolate cake topped with fudge-like chocolate crumbs. If the only thing you got out of that is chocolate X 3, that's cool. Just know that this doesn't get annoyingly sweet, which basically means TROUBLE. I primarily chose this donut because I like the name -- it's something that happens to the bf a LOT. LOL.
In case you're wondering, no, I didn't finish all four donuts in one sitting. I carried the rest back to my hotel, a good 3 mile walk from Chelsea to the Financial District. After all, Doughnut Plant's magical creations are best enjoyed in bed when you wake up the next morning.
And I didn't need to worry about cleaning up the trail of crumbs I leave behind.Listed in: I Heart NYC!

I had this book marked for awhile now, ever since I saw it on Unique Eats or one of those Food Network shows.
Believe the hype. That's all I got to say. I loved this place!
Love the CREME BRULEE donut.
Enjoyed the TRES LECHES and STRAWBERRY too!
Love the menu (HUGE)
Love the donut decor (PILLOWS)
Love the bathroom (BLINGED OUT)
It's a clean, cute spot. Cant wait to go back! -
Review from Jenna C.
I visited this place as one of the last stops on a five-day New York trip, which was basically an eating extravaganza (we came right after Shake Shack...). So I could only manage to eat one bite of their famous creme brûlée donut. And it was all that I needed to give this place four stars! I've never had a creme brûlée donut, but it was exactly what it should taste like :-)
I also like the decor of this place, and the handwritten/artsy menus are fun. As a fan and regular drinker of almond milk, their cashew milk and other nut-based milks were intriguing, but too expensive to try ($7-8 - not sure what size though). -

This review is for staff etiquette. If you are at a job, you should NOT be talking on a cell phone! A lady here was talking on her phone and mixed my order up today. That's fine at Dunkin Donuts. When customers are paying 3 bucks a donut, you pay attention to the order!
This is the 3rd time something like this happened at the Chelsea location. Yeah, the Chinatown spot is packed, but the workers there care a bit more about professionalism. The Chelsea staff could learn something.... -

This place has a huge selection of donuts. I had the vanilla bean which was OK, the tres leches which was ok, the crème brulée and the jelly donut which was very good.
I would like to go back and try the rest if my stomach permits it. Overy all so far a good donut joint. -

Vanilla Bean: it was alright. tasted a lot like my family's homemade frosting. and i don't expect a raised doughnut to taste like frosting. but i sure as hell ate it.
Blackout Cake: TO. DIE. FOR.

Review from Nora Y.
I have been wanting to try the dulce de leche doughnut for years now and every time I make it down to the original doughnut plant they are always sold out! I found myself in the area after work one night and decided to give the Chelsea location a shot. Not only did they have dulce de leche but a TON of other flavors as well. This was the first time I tried the cake doughnuts, a bit dense but a ton of flavor.

Ugh hype hype hype hype.
The doughnuts are dense, over priced and too sweet. Just a heads up, one doughnut is plenty for a person. I suggest ordering doughnut holes to get a good variety without getting tired of eating the same giant doughnut.
I will come back to try the creme brulee doughnut but this time I'll be wiser and just share one.
A noteworthy item that they carry here is pistachio milk. It can make your throat feel a little scratchy but it's really good. -

I've been waiting to try this place for a lonnngg time and they finally opened up this new location and I finally made my way over to try these supposedly famous dounts that everyone just loves to death. I've seen them featured on Food Network, the Chew so I was excited to finally get the chance to taste these fantastic melt in your mouth out of this world donuts!
So I went in the evening time with boyfriend after work, there was hardly any line that was a good thing. Stepped up to the register to place order and the cashier looked and spoke like he was stoned out of his mind and was of no help in determining what type of donut to get (we know your not eating the donuts but it's always nice to hear what the staff recommends or what the best seller is) but thank goodness I've read the reviews and heard what some of hte poplur ones were so I ordered:
1. Creme Brulee - The best one but nothing to go crazy over and nothing I need to rush back for because I just "gotta have it"
2. PB & J - Actually taste just like PB&J sandwich but nothing to make a fuss over
3. Tres Leches - My Least favorite. I don't know what kind of tres leches they have been eating but it tasted nothing like what I know Tres Leches to be so it's a NO.
4. Chocolate- It was ok I actually like Dunkin's Chocolate donut better...
5. Ice Latte for BF - He did not like it at all, said it was too strong and by the way he also felt the PB&J was just okay...
Minus the tres leches donut all these donuts were just okay and nothing to be putting up such a fuss over. I've definitely tasted and had better donuts (Krispy Kreme comes to mind) so my final verdict is if I'm in the neighborhood and happen to be in the mood for a donut and don't mind spending $3 on a single donuts maybe I'll stop in again otherwise I will not be going out of my way to come back. -

Time Arrived: 6:00pm Monday
Time Wait: Fast line (Yes, there was still a line this late! I was surprised too)
Party: 2 People
Atmosphere: Cute modern shop, sit down tables
Food/Drink: I was definitely looking forward to trying these donuts after reading so much about them. I got the Creme Brulee and Peanut Butter and Jam just because they were the most popular. Out of the 2, the Creme Brulee was better. I liked how the outside was slightly crunchy with the creme oozing out after you bite into it. But it was no surprise that this was a tad too sweet for me.
The Peanut butter was good with the strawberry jam inside. I love anything peanut butter, but it didn't "blow me away."
Service: Quick
Overall: Is it wrong to say that I'm still a bigger fan of Krispy Kreme?! :X NOTHING (so far) can beat a warm donut, which sadly is lacking in most donut shops! However, this place is definitely recommended for people who want to try something unique!Listed in: New York City

I always see Doughnut Plant on TV, so upon visiting NYC I HAD to go here. Our hotel was about 15 mins away, and I was just learning the metro, so I had to put my doughnuts in my book sack (which is why the picture I upload had mushed donuts). Upon arriving at this establishment, the decor was nice, however the the two workers were not. Nevertheless, the trip was worth it.
I had order the following:
-Coconut Creme
-Peanut Butter & Banana
-Peanut Butter & Jam
-Jam
-Vanilla Bean Glaze
-Tres Leche Cake
-Strawberry Cake
-Carrot Cake
-Blackout Cake
-Creme Brulee
All the doughnut names are pretty much self explanatory, and they all are pretty darn delicious. I like it because many of them have different textures, which you rarely see on a regular doughnut.
I'm still left with one confusion, how did the fill those darn doughnuts? -

Dear DP:
I miss you. I really do.
I don't know if you remember but we met last week? I visited you for the first time ever while on a week long trip to NYC. A girlfriend steered me away from Magnolia's and said I should go see you instead. She was right. You and I are a perfect match. I went out of my way several times during my visit to make sure we spent some quality time together.
Every Yelper was also right. The peanut butter and jelly was the absolute bombdiggity (and I have not used that word since 2002!) The Creme Brulee and Vanilla Bean were spectacular as well.
The coffee was on the strong side but it went perfectly with all my treats.
Shoot, who am I kidding? I even miss the disco ball bathroom where I could see my reflection 1005 times in those little mirror tiles. (Just how many of those tiles are there anyway?)
Please consider getting new digs near me in South Florida.
I promise it will do wonders for our relationship!
Until we meet again, yours truly.
Smitten.

Review from Jerry K.
A large selection of donuts, large donuts, cake donuts and special donuts.
The rotating line up can cause dizziness, but its worth it to pop in every once and a while and try something new. Lots of drinks like real ginger gingerale.
Its hard to try a classic doughnut with so many options but the plain glaze is really good, if not really big.
My favorite here by far is the Creme Brulee Donut. Which amazingly tastes just like it sounds. -
Review from Sydney K.
I love this place - from the doughnuts themselves to the look of the store, everything is just right. They always have interesting flavors, and I love this location specifically because you can grab a doughnut and see a movie (or the other way around), the way you were meant to.

Came here on my most recent trip to NY. My friend and I wanted to try this place because it was featured on the Food Network. AND WOOOW was this place just as good as they had described!
We ordered and shared the Tres Leches, PB&J, and Creme Brulee!
All three were so delicious~ The fillings are very fresh and the donuts are light which is a perfect combination.
The decor is super cute too! -

Stumbled upon this in a walk around exploring Chelsea! It looked so cute from the outside we had to try it!
Love the decor - all the doughnut cushions on the wall, and the variety in the menu looked great!
Quick service - I ordered a Hazelnut with berry filling - was good, but yeah would be better warm. And I thought it would be warm because they were kept in what looked like a warm cabinet. Mine was a small donut though - but that and a iced coffee came out to $5! I kind of expected a big donut, but it was the right size (considering I'd just had 5 Guys burger for lunch). Nice nutty texture on the outside with a glaze like Krispy Kreme, and a berry filling. Good but maybe not the best....
Would definitely go back to try the other flavours! :D -
Review from Alyssa K.
Love the doughnuts here, and somehow I don't feel so guilty eating them. Maybe because they boast using real, fresh strawberries in their strawberry cake doughnuts. Please don't tell me how many calories and grams of fat they actually contain.
Earlier this year, I spent a couple of months living in Portland, where I gorged on the famous Voodoo Doughnuts. Today I bought a couple of doughnuts from Doughnut Plant and immediately commented on how "small" they looked. They're actually standard size; I just got so accustomed to the monster Voodoo doughnuts. Be sure to arrive early if you're after one of their popular doughnuts, like the PB&J or tres leches. There have been a couple of times when I walked in after work and they were sold out of a bunch of varieties already!
I don't find the doughnuts here extremely sweet, which I like. If you don't want to indulge in a whole one, try their new doughseeds. They're slightly bigger than a Dunkin' Donuts munchkin, and they're filled. Today I bought a peanut butter doughseed with real crushed peanuts on the outside and filled with banana cream... delicious! -

The Peanut Butter and Jelly, Carrot Cake, and the Tres Leches were amazing. Worth traveling for. Granted, their donuts, so even if they were crappy, they'd still be good to an extent, but these donuts truly are above the rest. Big fan.

Remind me again how I never reviewed this place?
Ok the 5 stars are bascially just for the Creme Brulee donut which is tiny but OH-SO-GOOD!
Yes, it's a tad expensive and yes you definitely want more after eating just one, but seriously when you just want a taste of heaven that donut definitely puts you on the right track! Enjoy.Listed in: Foodie in New York

I have only been here once, but these donuts kick... some ass!
I can't wait to go back. I liked the following ones: oatmeal (they rock). blueberry cake (they also rock).
I had some of these that were being sold at Orens but you know what - you just have to go to the source to ensure they are fresh and also to get better choice of flavors. -

The best doughnuts I've ever had.
We go here every time we visit New York and I get the square jelly-filled while my mom goes by the carrot cake (which she dreams about).
It's a small place with awesome decorations and possibly one of the weirdest bathrooms you'll ever use in your life. Pricey but worth it. -

One word : orgasmic!
Not a fan of donuts but I crave these every day of my life. Skip everything and just get the tres leches. It really is like a well made tres leches cake - with milky oodness oozing out of dough.
The rose donuts was always incredible - I am a stickler for anything flower flavored - I hope this ones the the every day menu and not just the mother's day special. -

New York, NY
This place has delicious donuts but the absolute rudest staff of any pastry shop in NYC.
If you can handle being treated like a second class citizen as you ask for a donut (almost like you are begging them to sell it to you) - you'll be fine. The donuts are tasty... but you may wind up walking out feeling like a worthless human being. They're that rude... Seriously... That rude.
If you really wanna have a donut, and want to retain your self dignity, do yourself a favor - avoid this location like the plague - and go to the lower east side one instead.
They treat you like a customer there and you'll leave with a smile on your face to go with your donut. -

After seeing Doughnut Plant featured on a show a few years back I have been wanting to try it. I finally went last week and had the Strawberry yeast donut and the carrot cake, cake donut. I love they use fresh ingredients and make everything fresh. They also have a fun menu to chose from. Both donuts were good but the carrot cake blew me away. There was cream cheese inside and it was like eating actual carrot cake - only better than what I usually have.
The store was easy to spot on 23rd and you can sit down and enjoy a coffee with your donut. The line moved fast as well. This is a spot worth checking off your list - truly delicious. -

Cute decor - especially the doughnut shaped pillows on the wall.
Pistachio cake doughnut - the glaze and pistachio pieces outside. this one was great w/ their coffee.
Coconut glace coconut cream yeast doughnut - If you like coconut, the choice is obvious.
Peanut butter glaze blackberry jelly yeast doughnut - the best part of the doughnut i thought was the jelly. That really made it that much better. No idea how they get the jelly into a square doughnut w/ a hole in the center, but at the end of the day - it was fluffy and yummy. -

DECOR: 3.5/5
-Enough seating for about 15-20 people
-Restroom was clean and smelled great!
-Lots of donuts on display
-I loved the multi-screen which displayed the menu
SERVICE: 3/5
FOOD: 2.5/5
-Pistachio milk will go great with your doughnuts. It was light and refreshing but expect to have some grainy pistachio texture.
-English Breakfast organic leaf tea from Mighty Leaf. I originally ordered Earl Grey but they were out.
-Honestly I wasn't impressed. Out of the three I got: Tres leches, Peanut butter & Jam and Peanut butter & banana cream, the PB&J was the best. It was good but nothing that blew my mind. I will come again to try the Creme Brulee but if that fails, I may have to drop a star for Doughnut Plant. -

At $3.25 a pop, the creme brûlée donut better be the best tasting donut in the world.
Sadly, the donut did not live up to the hype. Creme brûlée filling was good, but the portion was ridiculously small! Definitely not enough filling and the donut itself wasn't mind blowing. I'll take Krispy Kreme any day- you even get a free one while waiting in line! -
Review from Jane Y.
I've never been to a doughnut shop as unique as this one and I was sad that they didn't have their green tea doughnut when I visited.
The ambiance was fun and hipster - the wall filled with donut pillows was an added touch to that.
The sesame yeast donut was delicious - not too sweet and was huge. My friend and I shared it and was satiated.
We also both got the earl grey hot tea, and was average. Just your bagged earl grey.
The bathroom was really cool with the mirrored walls. -
Review from Jaclyn P.
Delicious donuts, strong iced coffee and amazing doughnut pillows on the wall.
We were lucky enough to grab a table so we could sit and devour our doughnuts while taking in the scenery. Its a little fast paced in there so if you're not familiar with the menu you might get a bit flustered.
*Wild Blueberry Cake Doughnut - has real blueberries in it!
*Cinnamon Sugar Cake Doughnut - has the perfect ratio of cinnamon to sugar.
* Triple Chocolate Cake Doughnut - looked good but I never got a bite before my husband swallowed it practically whole!
Like I said, the iced coffee was strong just the way I like it and they have a DPNYC coffee blend for hot coffee that was described to me like drinking 8 ounces of espresso in the best possible way.
They deliver the doughnuts here from their other shop but ours tasted just as fresh as could be. -
Review from Alessa M.
*I have to note that i've only had the coffee and will be back ASAP to try one of those donuts I was just too full from dinner!
After that early dinner with my girlfriend Ashley we originally were going to go to PORTS but opted for Doughnut Plant because it was more spacious had available seating and the line wasn't madness. We just couldn't fit in more than coffee/tea and so I opted for an Iced Mocha and Ash an Iced Chai (she doesn't do coffee which I totally get) We sat at the corner right near the window and realized why no one was really sitting there. The people outside really like to get all up in your business if your sitting there. It was pretty funny I would look out and say hi and wave. It was a good time all around.
I didn't try ash's Iced Chai but she finished it pretty quick which tells me she enjoyed it. I liked my Iced Mocha. Not the best I had and I have to stir it a lot more because a lot of ice was added (one cube even slipped on and fell to the floor) and I couldn't really reach the syrup at the bottom but I did enjoy it.
The space itself is nice its polished and not overwhelming. The big screen in the back that shows off the menu is pretty cool look quickly as it'll change to some fluffy animation of doughnuts before you can pick what you want and will have to wait to see it again! It was a relaxing place not a lot of noise (we had come in around 6 so I was a bit worried about that but it just never got crazy) with the exception of the homeless dude asking for change and the fat girl trying to go over the velvet rope that starts the line (and ultimately tripping and making the whole thing fall causing a really loud noise and embarrassment for her) a good time was had. I must come back for a donut. I might do this next week and update.Listed in: Chelsea/Flatiron Area

THIS IS HOW A DOUGHNUT SHOULD BE! I have never been a big fan of doughnuts, but these are THE exception. Whether you get the yeast doughnuts or the cake doughnuts they are all great. The Peanut Butter and Jelly doughnut was amazing! The Creme Brulee was even more amazing!!! The Blueberry was the most amazingness of all the amazing doughnuts. The only one that was just okay was the Tres Leche. When you hear that you think a wet cake. It was the total opposite of wet. It was very dry. Other then that my mind was blown straight to the moon at how good these doughnuts are.
Yeast doughnuts are so great because they are thicker then your average doughnut. You get that nice chew, but still fluffy and soft at the same time. It is a little pricey like buying a cupcake, but it is so worth it. They could put these on the dessert menu in any five star restaurant and I would get it. Best doughnuts ever!!! -
Review from Anita C.
I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!
The cream brûlée is a must try!!
The filling is not overly sweet, nicely flavored, the coating on the doughnut is a little torched with the sugar and has a light crisp - it is just divine!
I love trying other flavors as well and I absolutely love how they use fresh ingredients and seasonal fruit.
I also love the pistachio doughnut whenever they have it - omgoodness it beyond yummy with the pistachios on top and the pistachio filling, I always look forward to when they make those.
The jelly filled doughnuts are really good as well along with the cake doughnuts.
Honestly, just go in and try whatever sounds good to you and don't look at the price - just enjoy the moment ;)
I also like their seasonal drinks like hot chai tea or the cantaloupe drink.
This location is bigger than their LES spot; there's tables with chairs to hang out and chill.
I've gotten a lot of my friends hooked on this place... you won't be sorry you went! -

So I'm interested in a girl who's got a sweet tooth. Being it was the first time we were trying Doughnut plant we got: Yeast: Peanut butter banana cream, Creme brulee, NYDP Jam (but we ordered the hazelnut), Seasonal fruit (pineapple) Cake: Tres leche, Green tea
We were so stuffed I didn't have any of the pineapple, but it was agreed that the best one was the Peanut butter banana cream with the perfect amount of bounce and peanutty crunch on top. Her pistachio milk was a whopping $7 but it was pretty tasty. Guy behind the counter hooked me up with a free refill on my pretty darn good coffee. Too bad they didn't have any tea as they were looking for a new supplier.
It's good, but pricy here so try everything and pick your favorite if you wanna come back here. -
