I bring everyone that comes to visit me from out of town to this doughnut shop because it makes them instantly fall in love with me, New York City, my shitty neighborhood, and doughnuts.

If I went here as often as my reptilian brain would like me to, I'd have every kind of diabetes.

When I heard that someone made a hibiscus and a blood orange donut, I had to see for myself. My roomate told me about Dough, a small semi-hipster pastry shop who created one of a kind dounuts :) in Bed-Stuy none the less! This place is literally minutes from my apartment door and I just never walked far enough down the street to realize the hidden gem infront of me!

Ok then. lets set the ambience. The shop is a small corner store on Lafayette and Franklin, it has a vintage feel with large windown panes and worn out wooden floors. The counters and donut cases are also made of distressed wood and you can see stright back to the kitchen where all the magic happens. There is a radio playing top hits as employees bob their heads as they make fresh pastrys. The Pastrys are served in the traditional crisp brown paper bag, just like I like it!

The donuts are large and made fresh all day. They range from $2.25-$2.75 a peice, a bit more than Peter Pan Donuts, but in the end you will feel satisfied, the pocketchange you dish out for these beauties is well worth it!

I tried the Dolce de Leche donut sprinkled with almond slivers. I wanted to try the hibiscus or blood orange but unfortunately they were running a bit low on things and didnt have alot of selection at the time I was there, but dont get discouraged! I am 99% sure they were making more in the back. The donut was delicious, not greasy or to sweet, and pretty big. It was a nice afternoon snack with a big cup on green tea.

I will def. add this to the list of places to get great donuts!

I live across the street from the Smorgasburg. Today, when I was walking across the gravel lot, I heard one of the Dough guys yell, "hey! hey you!" I looked up, and he pointed.  It turned out that I had dropped a bunch of dollar bills on the ground behind me, the change that was in my pocket when I was buying my quesadilla.

Not only do they have the best donuts around, they also have the nicest staff ever. :)

What is there to say about Dough that hasn't already been said? They certainly kick Doughnut Plant's ass (and I love Doughnut Plant). The doughnuts here are just perfect, and they even keep well for a few hours after they've been baked and taste good after being smushed in a purse (a purse, not necessarily my purse...but probably).

I love Dough! We tried it the first time at Smorgasburg Flea Market. We tried Lemon Poppy Seed and Passion Fruit donuts. They are $2.5 each but they are big! Three of us shared 2 donuts so we could continue to pig out for the rest of the afternoon.

The donuts are surprisingly light and fluffy. They honestly don't taste greasy, which are comforting for my guilty conscious! I think I am going to try all the flavors they have real soon...

Damn fine doughnuts. Perfect donuts. Light, airy, puffy, fresh, happy, healthy (OK, not healthy)...but wow, these doughnuts really are amazing. They make various clever flavors (like hibiscus), but I tend to stick to the classics, especially the glazed, because that's what I love. It's not too sweet, hitting a perfect balance, and comes out puffy and wonderful every time. Also, for 2.25 (or 2.50), it's a steal for such an artisan dessert.

The hours can be a bit awkward so it's perhaps more of a local's place, but if you get there in the afternoon, even late afternoon, on the weekend, they're likely to still be pouring out hot fresh doughnuts.

Just a note - very limited seating (just a few stools) means it's better for take-out than stay-in.

    Things I Did this Morning:

    (1) So I weighed myself and I gained two pounds! After one week of exercising and eating healthy, I was depressed!

    (2) To cheer myself up, I went to Dough and had two donuts! I ate a lemon poppy, and a plain glazed.

    (3) Searching the web now to see if there is such a thing as a donut diet! Because I am definitely going back!

    (4) Making plans to head back tomorrow morning for the Dulce DE Leche Donut Diet, Hibiscus Donut Diet, Passion Fruit Donut Diet, and the Blood Orange Donut Diet

Simply carrying one of these doughnuts home caused a spike in my neighborhood's diabetes and obesity levels.  But that's O.K. if you enjoy the fare in moderation, followed with a week of exercise.

You know how people discuss what they'd have for their final meal?  These goods might cover anyone's dessert portion.  And Dough's blood orange special could be bumped to an appetizer or main.  Really.

In fact, it could be the reason one is on death row (someone got between you and a blood orange doughnut).  Whatever.

All I know is these are the best doughnuts I've ever had and if you'd like to disagree, my Dentist is looking to franchise and would like to set up near anyplace you think is sweeter.  If you're gonna cheat on your diet, Dough is a worthy mistress.

To me, Dough is the perfect doughnut. It's not overly sweet and cloying like some other doughnut places (cough Doughnut Plant cough) and the variety of awesome and unusual flavors beats out a more traditional doughnut place like Peter Pan (which I still love, but it's like comparing apples to oranges).

The only complaints I have are the hours. I live a few blocks away and when I'm craving a good doughnut on the way home from work, I'm saddened to know Dough's not an option since they close at 5:00. And who doesn't love a good doughnut for dessert?

    Oh. My. Goodness.

These doughnuts are AMAZING. Probably the best I've ever had. I tried them at Smorgasburg one weekend (the food market that pairs with the Brooklyn Flea Market) and they were so good. We got a dulce de leche doughtnut which was sweet and caramel-y. We also got a hibiscus doughnut which was more understated, but which I liked better because it was less sweet. The yeast-y dough part was a pillowy heaven. The doughnuts are huge, and we thought we would split them but I plowed through and ate a whole doughnut by myself. My advice? Get your own.

Next time, I'll check out the store location and eat my way through doughnut bliss.

I've always been more of a cake donut person, but these amazingly and creatively designed unique yeast donuts that you can't get anywhere else have definitely turned me into a fan of yeast donuts. Dough definitely knocks the Doughnut Plant out of the top spot for donuts. If only Dough weren't so far off the beaten path. But, is the journey worth it? Absolutely!

My gf and I came here last week and after looking over the offerings in the case, we selected six donuts. Here are my impressions -

Blood Orange - They have somehow found a way to take a the taste, flavor and essence of a blood orange and turn into into icing. It also comes with a candied orange. Not to be missed.

Plain Glazed - There was nothing plain about this donut. definitely the best plain glazed donut that I've ever had.

Hibiscus - Hmm, I've never actually eaten a hibiscus flower, so I'm not sure how to describe this one. It had a citrus flavor to it, but not along the lines of an orange, grapefruit or lemon. Try it for yourself and be amazed.

Passion Fruit with Cocoa Nibs - I didn't find much flavor from the cocoa nibs. They were mainly just a highlight and provided a little bit of crunch to this donut. But the passion fruit glaze was sweet and delicious. I tasted a little bit of pineapple in there as well.

Lemon Meringue - Picture a lemon meringue pie that has been made into a donut. They 100% nailed it, but a little more lemon filling on the inside would've been nice, especially with how large the donuts are.

Cheesecake with Graham Crackers - It's like they somehow got the recipe for my grandmother's cheesecake and topped a donut with it.

If you're in the area or just have some time to kill, definitely make the trip out here. The journey is a pain, but your belly will be happy. So will you, until your clothes no longer fit.

Switching things up and moving from French pastries to more "American" selections, subsequent breakfast stops would see the focus switch to donuts - something that many claim New York does well but after an unimpressive visit to Donut Plant a claim I questioned, particularly when compared to the best of what we are doing in the Midwest.  For the first of these stops I decided to grab a quartet from Brooklyn's Dough after a long morning run to enjoy as I walked to Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge.

With early opening hours and a large glass window giving a glimpse of the bakers at work I arrived at Dough just prior to 8am and with items in the case just replenished with fresh donuts from the back I was admittedly excited with my only regret being that I did not have anyone to share the donuts with so I could try them all.  Reading about the all natural ingredients and the restaurant's mission statement while I waited for a few patrons in front of me before making my way to the counter I was soon greeted by a friendly young fellow who took my order, boxed up my donuts, poured me a coffee and handed me a large pile of napkins stating "they can get pretty messy when they are still warm."

With coffee - a thick earthy brew from Brooklyn Roasting Company - sweetened to my liking I took a few photos at the counter prior to leaving Dough and making my way back into the sunshine en route for Manhattan I started my tasting with the "Plain Glazed," a dense and yeasty donut filled with buttery tones and hints of vanilla below the sweet crackling glaze that gave me a good idea of what to expect from Dough even though it was the only one in the group that was not still warm and therefore likely the least fresh.

Moving next to the more esoteric options, "Berry" would prove to be everything I'd hoped when I saw it on transfer from the wire rack to the case - warm, pillowy soft, dense without being oily, and topped with flavors somewhat akin to my favorite childhood donut, the Strawberry at Dunkin, but substantially less artificial tasting and not as cloyingly sweet.  At this point putting the Plain Glazed back in the box to focus on the Berry I made quick work of it and then opted to move on to something that would again go better with the coffee, in this case Dulce de Leche with Almonds, by far the most messy of the group with the warm donut literally dripping the caramelized milk and almonds all over the box with each bite.

At this point realizing that juggling the box, coffee, and gooey donuts was soon to spell disaster for my clothing I opted to stop at a Starbucks to rinse my hands, finish my coffee, and ditch the box (along with a little less than half of the plain glazed) before again setting off to the city and with only the "Cheesecake with Graham Cracker" option remaining I was pleasantly surprised that this donut too had maintained its warmth and biting into the soft exterior to find the same yeasty insides as the others I was met with the creamy tang of sweetened cream cheese and notes of nutmeg, ginger, and cinnamon - like Juniors without the heft and a whole lot better than the bagel with cream cheese I saw so many other New Yorkers walking around with as their breakfast of choice.

    LIFECHANGING DOUGHNUTS.

If only this place wasn't so hard to get to... Thankfully, spring has arrived and I can get my Dough fix at Smorgasburg!

I've tried at least 4 different doughnuts here and loved them all. You can't go wrong with any of them. My absolute favorite is cafe au lait but my boyfriend won't stop raving about the blood orange.

These $2 doughnuts are HUGE so I made a mistake of sharing my first Dough doughnut with a friend because I thought it'd be too much... But it's so yummy you won't want to share :P I ended up getting right back on line for another!

These are hands down the best doughnuts I've ever had. During a week in Brooklyn we went here twice and let's be honest, probably would have gone every day if it was a few blocks closer.

The first time I got the Cafe Au Lait and the next time I got the regular chocolate covered and a cinnamon sugar coated. The Cafe Au Lait was definitely my favorite but they were all wonderful. They were light and fluffy but had more substance than some other similar style doughtnuts (such as from Krispy Kreme).

We got coffee and although it wasn't anything special I appreciated the different milks and sweeteners they offered and the cheap price.

Although the shop is small, I think it adds to the experience. I love the floor to ceiling windows that allow you to see into the kitchen where the magic is made!

It's been 5 months since I was in NYC and I'm still thinking about these and dreaming about the next time I can get one in my hands!

So...Dough doughnuts have become my new obsession. It started innocently when I would pick one up at Stinky Brooklyn when I went to buy my weekly coffee. They just looked so tempting in the display case near the cash register. I was hooked after the first bite.

The doughnuts themselves are huge and ever so fluffy but still dense enough that they hit the spot. There is quite a wide variety to choose from including hibiscus (you really need this in your life), cinnamon, chocolate, blood orange and several other flavors I cannot wait to try. I was so impressed with these doughnuts that I had to make a trek (or your could call it a pilgrimage) to the bakery in Clinton Hill. The setup is a cozy store front where you can grab a cup of the excellent Brooklyn Roasting Company's coffee and press your nose up against the glass display window. I would recommend to get there earlier in the day so that you can have your pick of the entire flavor line-up and possibly even fill up a nice to-go box.

If I remember correctly, all their donuts are yeast donuts. I'm actually not a big fan of yeast, I prefer cake donuts but Dough changed my mind. Exactly as the name states, the dough they use for their donuts is money. All their donuts are made with the same dough but they have creative glazes over the donut to make each one of them unique.

On my first visit to Dough, I got their most popular, Blood Orange donut ($2.25). Mmmm it was so good and fluffy! The blood orange taste wasn't overpowering but gave it a little tang with the candied orange slice. It's also not as sweet as you think it'll be. It's just perfect.

I wish I got more than one but I didn't wanna go on a sugar high. I will definitely be coming back with friends next time so I can try a bite of all their donuts! lol

Awright awright. I have lived down the block from Dough for exactly 28 days. I have been to Dough every weekend for a cup of coffee and to purchase my weekly bag of Brooklyn Roasters mocha java (note to everyone: support two local businesses at once!). Every weekend I glare at the sultry, delicious-looking donuts, willing myself to stay away. One of my roommates tells me she does the same, and then every once in a while caves. Well, being a lady, sometimes it is easier to have will power than at other times. This past weekend was not filled with willpower.

I purchased my normal beans and coffee, and suddenly blurted out (ladies you know what I mean, sigh) that I also wanted a coconut glazed donut. Gah. It's REALLY bad news to find out how AMAZING these donuts are - because once you know... well, there's really no turning back. It's bad news as in the Devil. And lord knows I love me some devil. Perhaps I will make donuts a monthly event. Sigh. See??

I looked at the coconut donut and thought, oh this will probably be dry and gross anyway - you know how glazed yeast-risen donuts can do that sometimes? I really tried to convince myself of this, but curiousity killed the Mel as usual, and as soon as I started walking down the street, I ripped open the bag and took a bite of what, as we say in French-Canadian-land, surement c'est ceil. Surely this is heaven.

I don't care how much grease and fat it takes to make one of these donuts, I didn't give a shit that I was walking through the projects with frosting all over my face, trying to juggle my reusable grocery bags, my giant purse, a cup of coffee, and the best donut I've ever had in the whole world... I was the honey badger. And you know the honey badger don't care.

Dec.a.dent. Melt in your mouth. Tender. Not so sweet it hurts your teeth. Perfect. Local.

I can't even make sentences anymore because I'm practically convulsing. Recalling the experience is the equivalent of watching porn. Go here. NOW.

    Dear Dough,

Though I may not like your donuts, nor would I ever step foot in your establishment after you refused to break my 100 dollar bill while you clearly had change in the register .  I love that you are in my hood.  I love sitting on my porch and watching fat faced khaki wearing yuppies walk through my neighborhood looking to get their donut fix on..

I love jogging through the projects and seeing a table full of fresh faced kids eating donuts while they are completely oblivious to the drugs and poverty taking place around them.

Thank you Dough for slowly moving gentrification along Lafayette ave.. I would much rather have your donut shop attract gangs of foodies than packs of criminals.

    Watch your cell phones kids.

THE best I have EVER had.  Fluffy but not quite airy as they have a good weight to them. The dough itself is perfectly egg-laden, buttery, stretchy and oooooHhhhh......think brioche rather than doughnut.

Just one bite of a simple glazed yeast and I became a fan for life.  I would travel (and have) miles for one of these beauties.  Go....go.....GO!!!!!

I'll give this place 4.5 stars. I'm honestly not donuts fan at all but a friend brought me in here one Sunday and this was the best thing that happened to me that whole week lol. Got the plain glazed donut - the whole baby melt in my mouth before I paid the cashier! These are seriously good and by far the best ones I've ever had.

I came back a few weeks later with friends to try some different ones. It was right before close time so the only really fresh ones were the plane glazed ones. We ended up getting a few different ones and there seemed to be sitting there for a couple hours and were much harder than the fresh plain glazed ones but nevertheless good. So my advice to you - come early to get the fresh ones! And bring cash, they don't take cards. The Dough has converted me into donut lover and the only thought of those airy pastries makes me want to go there every Sunday!

What a delicious doughnut! I'm sad that I moved away from the area before Dough opened up, but as I found this weekend, I'm only a short bus ride away. Since they are owned by the people who run Choice, I was expecting top quality stuff and I wasn't disappointed. I had a lemon poppy seed doughnut and it was heaven. Dough also serves the apple cider I loved from Choice.
The place itself is very small and filled up many times. A word of advice--get in, get your doughnuts, and then get out! Also, a lot of the people waiting around made it seem as if picking a doughnut was like investing in stocks--they are doughnuts people, lighten up! I can't wait to come back in the spring so I can grab a bunch to go and enjoy them in Fort Greene Park.

    DELICIOUS.

I take the B38 via DeKalb home all the time after work. I always passed by this place but never stopped to venture in.

One day on my way to get some beauty services at Charming Nail Salon, I walked in to get a little treat. I was a little um...under the influence, so I had the munchies. I ordered a toasted coconut glazed donut........I DIED.

Every bite was soft, moist, almost melted in my mouth. I am West Indian so anything with coconut is a winner in my eyes. This donut was frickin unbelievably delicious.
I devoured it so fast that when I stuck my hand in the bag to tear off another piece of heaven, it was gone. I had never been so sad in my entire life. Well, yes I have, but you catch my drift...

COME HERE NOW AND BUY A DONUT!

    Soooo good!!

If you like homemade donuts (opposed to the typical gas station donuts), you will love this place!! The donuts are HUGE, and the flavors are extremely creative. Chocolate chipotle anyone? Chocolate w/ Earl Grey? Yes. I love the traditional cinnamon sugar and there is some sort of filled tropical one... mango I think. Anyways, if you're in the area defintely stop by!

The only drawback is the place is SUPER tiny, so be prepared to take your donuts to the nearby project playground and eat lol. (Don't worry, completely safe).

DOUGH ME, BABY!!!  i reserve this spot for verrrry special occasions, lest i become one of those people you have to cut out of their house.  but i will say if i ever WERE going to submit to a life of profound obesity, it would be at the hands of Dough's Blood Orange confection.

Please stop off here for a box of the sickest, most finger-licking-goddamnned-orgasmic fresh and fantastic donuts of your fucking life.  better than DunkinDees or any of that 3rd world crap.  this place is the REAL DEAL and you, too, may find yourself seriously considering a trip down Diabetes Lane for their junk. f'reals.

Dough could very well be my new favorite donut shop! (sorry for cheating on you, Peter Pan)  I stopped in this little simple shop in the middle of Bed-Stuy (in what appears to be a project jungle) to pick up a couple to try for the first time. It also serves some coffee, tea, and apple cider to go with your donuts - but cash only. The 2 favors that I tried are: chocolate with earl grey and lemon poppy.

The chocolate w/ earl grey was surprisingly not too sweet and I was actually able to taste a bit of tea flavor. The lemon poppy also had a little zing to it and also not super decadent like donut plant. These donuts are huge in size and look like they are drenched in flavoring, but they have just the right ratio of dough vs glaze. These are more like the yeast donut with a chewy consistency, whereas donuts from Peter Pan (another one of my favorite) is a bit more cake-y. Both shops have great flavors and just depends on what style of donuts fits you. Definitely coming back for much much more!!
