9 reviews for Doubletree Resort Lodge & Spa Fallsview
All Reviews
I stayed here for two nights while scoping out Niagara Falls and Toronto, and I was perfectly pleased. It's not ridiculously elaborate or anything, but it's a good clean hotel with warm chocolate chip cookies to welcome you. It's located on Fallsview Blvd which is a Vegas-like strip (but way more family-oriented), so you have lots of restaurants and casinos nearby. It's only about a 15-minute walk to the falls, Maid of the Mist, and all.
I chose a falls-view room because I found a good deal through Travelocity that made the price difference nominal with or without it. Some people have mentioned that you get over the view real quick, which may be true, but it's still nice to have the view from your room at night as well as in the morning. Since you're not super close to the actual falls, you get a view of them within the context of the city and all the surrounding casinos, rides, and all, which is pretty. What really made the falls-view-ness worth it though was that we happened to be staying there when they had fireworks over the falls at night. It was awesome to sit on the couch by the window and watch with a glass of wine. This was a Wednesday night in our case, but I think it varies by season.
Parking is no longer free as it apparently was once upon a time. It's $12/night, which isn't too bad. There seem to be some cheaper parking lots not too far away if you want to research.
Very nice decor in lobby. We got a good deal from priceline and then upgraded when we got here to a king room w jacuzzi for 40 more per night (our anniversary).
Location is nice if you're ok not being right in the middle of things. The falls area is very touristy so it's nice to be a few blocks from that, but still having a room view of the actual falls.
The only things that keep it from being a 5-star are the little things. When you upgrade to a jacuzzi king suite you expect it to be nice. However, we were less than totally satisfied. Our in-room coffee maker was full of nasty soap water (wft), the mugs were very dirty, and the AC unit made way too much noise. These are little things that you don't think would be there in any room, much less in an upgraded room.
My gf and I went for the "Romance Package." Well of course we were happy to be with each other but the hotel room spoke for itself. There were a few perks that came with the deal - free chocolate chip cookies, champagne,King Size bed, jacuzzi, free breakfast and a couple of coupons to its spa for products and deal on some wine.
So the positives were the king size bed and the free breakfast. The negatives were the size of the jacuzzi, shower and the small bottle of champagne. I think if the shower had a removable head, my view would have been slightly different. It was so hard to maneuver in there. We had to do gymnastics in the jacuzzi but managed. I think because of the jacuzzi it took away the size of the shower.
We were a little disappointed at the size of the champagne. Thinking it was going to be a large bottle from one of the more known makers of champagne. But whatever. It is what it is. As well from the advertisement, we thought it was going to be breakfast in bed. The dining area at Buchanan's for the brunch was dead. Partially it could have been because it was pricey or it could have been all those partying it all night in the clubs or casinos. BUH!
So maybe we'll check out other places if it comes time to going away for a romantic getaway again.
Very well decorated and cool front area. The rooms are exactly what you'd expect from a Double Tree. Clean, comfortable, no problems.
Extra perks are free internet and warm gooey cookies upon check-in.
found this place at a GREAT deal on http://priceline.com ($150/night). niagara falls is a great place to visit, but it can be very bright and loud in the center of things. doubletree is located perfectly, about 2-3 blocks away so it's close enough to walk but far enough that you're not in the center of all the busy-ness and traffic. The lobby decor was in a very cool, clean, luxury lodge style. Rooms were clean and everything seemed relatively new. There was a great indoor pool and jacuzzi (which if you go at the right time, you'll find yourself pretty much alone) and an outdoor jacuzzi. Staff was extremely polite and catered to our needs. Free parking!
I was visiting Toronto on business a few weeks ago and was able to see Niagara Falls for the first time! It was exciting and beautiful but after about 20 minutes, I couldn't figure out why couples have come here for their honeymoon. I mean, after you watch the falls for a few minutes, what else is there to do? Gamble?
During my visit, I stayed at the Double Tree. First, it was preseason so there weren't very many people there (although I heard that I just missed Brad Pitt and his busload of kids a few days earlier, ooh). The lobby is huge and kind of rustic/log cabinish. The breakfast is not included with your room and is expensive but good. I had a slight view of the falls from my room but after you actually go and see it in person, I don't see the necessity to see it from your hotel room. It's just a 10 minute walk to the falls from the Doubletree.
The reason for my 5 star review? The bed. ooh my God. The bed.
I travel fairly often and always have a hard time sleeping in hotels (especially the first night). This bed was so incredibly comfortable, I slept soundly and had a hard time getting up in the morning. So good. Perfect for a business trip.
Also, the staff at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. In fact, I felt a little sorry for the woman at the front desk because it seemed like she was the only one working-- she was there first thing in the morning and was still there when we came back at the end of the day (looking exhausted).
I'm sure it's chaotic during peak season but if you happen to be doing business in Toronto and want a nice place to stay --- I recommend it. :o)
This hotel is very nice and I also found a great deal on priceline. It is definitely not the closest hotel to the falls, and if you have kids, you are much better served staying closer to the tourist area. You do have a view of the falls however. They do offer you cookies when you arrive which are quite delicious, and the indoor pool and hot tub were a hit with my kiddos. The only restaurant is a steak and seafood casual dining experience. . .so says the add. I'm sure the food is great and they do have live music at night, but as far as kids go the only thing they liked was the starbucks downstairs which serves up a few treats like cookies, fresh fruit, yogurt and sandwiches. Oh, and they also serve liquor. I'm guessing Canada doesn't have the same liquor restrictions as the US, but it is more difficult to find outside of restaurants.
Just a note, Niagara falls in the winter is quite amazing. The lake is frozen and the falls rush into giant ice covered rocks. The spray from the falls covers the ground making a very dangerous but fun place to do a little ice scooting. . .
I like fancy hotels and there are no two ways about it. I like that I can
go to a nicely appointed room and have someone else clean it for me and
I can feel like a big shot if only for a day. The Hilton Doubletree in
Niagara Falls is with no understatement a very nice hotel. The rooms are modestly sized but if
you pay the extra fee (completely worth it) you get a spectacular view
of the falls and the city. The location is a bit out of the way which
is not great. To get to Clifton Hill it's about a 10-15 minute walk
and to the falls its about 5-10. The thing that really got me and will
probably have me going back, is that when you check in you get
freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Now I know that this isn't a big
deal to some, but when you're scoping out your new room munching on a fresh warm
cookie looking at Niagara Falls, it doesn't get much better.
