This place is exactly what you're looking for: fast, filling and a change from the sandwich place you're bored of.
The rice and noodle dishes offered are a great deal for the price. Buta-mayo and teriyaki-don are delicious. The chicken karaage is a great deal too-- skip the McNuggets and grab this for the same price. Dip it in mayo and be transported to a heavenly place.
They've added a few things onto the menu like curries and different types of ramen/udon.
A great tip: follow them on twitter to get the secret tip on how to double your meat, or special prices for some of their items on certain days.
AND they just started delivery service! -

I had Fried Prawn Curry, drawn in by the prawn more than the curry. The prawns looked good, almost like the plastic models (thick, evenly cylindrically straight, even the fanned-out tail) ... hey, could it be factory frozen? Sure tasted like the generic stuff. The tartar sauce was an interesting contrast, in that it looked really homemade (unevenly sized pieces of chopped onion :) ). The curry was like a regular medium-spiciness roux from the store (or vacuum-packed pre-made) so I wasn't impressed. But the most disappointing was the shredded cabbage (lack thereof). It is a Japanese staple with panko deep-fried things, and it WAS on the menu photo.
Adding insult to injury is that it cost $9-something. I can get most things at Orangerie for that price! Things that taste more real. I will stick to Orangerie for Ebi Fry and to Sajin's for curry.
The last time I has here, I had karaage takeout and was not impressed then, either.
I doubt I will return, but if I do, I might try the Mabo tofu. I don't mind vacuum-packed commercial Mabo sauce. -

I come here usually for the salmon & tuna don, it's fast and yummy. The rice has egg and seaweed on it for extra flavour.

Fast food Japanese? I ordered the Kimchi Pork rice bowl and payed extra for spicy. It was alright, not spicy at all, and kind of bland..It tasted like there was too much mayonnaise but that's to be expected in a Japanese place, I guess? I wish I ordered the ramen instead! With that said, this place is good for a decent, fast, filling lunch.

I assumed the $2.75 special chicken karaage would be processed meat but was pleasantly surprised when it clearly wasn't (and boneless). The Yakiudon didn't look amazing but tasted great. Also, theres a free selection of three types of Japanese pickle.
Service is fast and you can eat outside on Robson. -

As far as cheap, quick and easy Japanese food goes, this place is full of win. The food is fast and consistent, and everything I've had so far has been tasty and satisfying. The people who work here are extremely nice and they genuinely seem to care that you have a good experience while you're there. The complimentary help-yourself jar of umeboshi and other Japanese condiments is a huge plus.
I heart this place for real. -

Cheap, quick, and tasty. Takoyaki and karaage for less than $8. Best part? Pickled radish! Oh man! Had I known how good that stuff was, I would've piled that stuff on, rather than just in the little container they give.
I definitely recommend this place for a quick pit stop. -

For a quick lunch or dinner i can always rely on donburiya to satisfy my hunger cheaply and satisfyingly. Obviously i won't stroll into Donburiya expecting high end quality sashimi or sushi but their rice bowl are good and decent especially when paired with the mayo. I tried most of the rice bowl menu and i could say that everything i tried are good.
I tried:
1. Butamayodon: teriyaki beef with mayo. This is the one that i usually order (good but one of the instances i ordered it, it a tad heavy with ginger)
2. Butakimdon: beef with kimchi sauce (good but not my favourite)
3. Chicken teriyaki: this is my favourite because somehow they make it good. lol
overall a good and near place to satisfy my hunger. -

* Where's the octopus? *
Do you remember the classic Wendy's commercial from 1984 - "Where's the Beef?" (http://www.youtube.com...).
Ordering takoyaki here made me want to create a new ad, "Where's the octopus?"
Found a little diced piece in one of the balls. All of the rest were pure batter! They should call these batteryaki or doughyaki. Not takoyaki!
Shame on me for trying to get takoyaki so shortly after returning from a trip to Kansai.....Shame on me.....Where the brain?Listed in: Vancouver Japanese Food

3.5 stars!!! Good, cheap, and FAST.
Totally low-key, cute, cozy, with super fast service and friendly staff. All the main dishes are anywhere between $6-10 depending on the size of your bowl, which I thought was very cool! You can choose dishes to be in small, medium, large or extra large. Makes sense depending on your hunger level!
They have rice bowls, noodle dishes (yakisoba, yakiudon) as well as ramen bowls. A variety of side dishes include chicken kara-age (fried chicken), gyoza, takoyaki (octopus balls).
We had the buta-mayo bowl upon a staff's recommendation (pork+onions+cabbage+rice with mayonnaise), beef yakiudon (stir fry udon), and takoyaki (fried octpus balls). Everything was good, but I didn't think it was extraordinary. I've definitely had better takoyaki - it didn't taste authentic enough, the pieces of octopus were minimal and just a lot of flavor with sauce and mayonnaise. No dried bonito flakes or aonori on top, either...
But the food came out literally minutes after we sat down. Probably the quickest meal I've had! A solid place to try if you're short on time or money! -

Located close to the hotel i was staying at. I decided to grab a quick bite around the area but wasn't in the mood for Mcdonalds. I walked upon Donburiya the place had a little bit of a line, clean, and the staff was attentive. I ordered Tofu, pork, green onion bowl that was nested on some mayo and salad over rice. Who knew that those combinations would be so tasty!
I was definitely glad that i checked this place out. -

Great for a quick, cheap meal! There was so much rice in my medium sized Buta-mayo (Pork with mayonnaise) bowl that it's a wonder I managed to finish. If you're really hungry, go for that double-large. You'll be full till the next day... if you finish. :) Really quick service after ordering from the counter, and the staff even gave us a 10% off coupon! The food wasn't the best thing in the world, but I'd probably have this over fast food or food court food (they're about the same price wise anyways).

If you want something different from your typical cheap fast food then come here. The quailty of their meats isn't the greatest but keep in mind that your paying about $7 for a meal that will fill you up. So don't expect too much.
The chicken karage is good as is the beef bowl. The best part is the small selection of free Japanese pickles they have at the little bar across from the cash register. Dig in because it's all you can eat!
