After smelling someone's BBQ Chicken Plate from Donair Town in lecture, I wanted to give it a try since it just smelled so good.  I have been there before (2 years ago in freshman year) and I thought it was not bad, considering there weren't many food choices back then (ie: no Tim Horton's).

Although the chicken plate smelled fabulous in lecture, it was really just okay in reality.  The chicken was a bit dry but still okay.  There was a lot of tzatziki and garlic sauce, even though we requested less.  We later noticed a customer who requested MORE sauce to be put on it; his chicken was nearly drowning in it.

The "caesar salad" was actually just iceberg lettuce............

When I first found out that there was a donair place on campus, I was excited. It's difficult to find places that are able to serve this wholesome Mediterranean goodness (in a wrap or platter) well.

Back in the day when I was doing my undergrad and this place first opened, I came her a lot. The food was presentable, the staff were friendly and the prices were student-friendly.

Fast-forward to today - present day. The same service I had then has since diminished.

Line-ups are out the door yet there are five people working (one cashier, one cutting meat, three wrap-makers). I was getting impatient until I noticed that everyone making the wraps were chatting among themselves, avoiding eye-contact with students and just taking their time preparing the food. Unacceptable.

The staff are not friendly, they have to force a smile and they often get their orders wrong.

Prices of donairs have increased and menu options are comical. For example: If you want a regular beef/chicken donair with mushrooms in it, you'll be charged a little over a dollar more. Why are mushrooms so significant?

As for the food, not much to complain or brag about as most of it consists of raw vegetables. Sauces are what makes these wraps good, in my opinion, and Donair Town has good sauces.

Donair Town is a fast, cheap and good lunch at SFU.  Food is consistent, reasonably healthy and convenient. Nothing better on sunny day then to sit on the hill, catch a few rays and down a chicken platter or beef donair.

Free 20-minute parking is right in front.

    Highly recommended!

I tend to be of two minds when it comes to Donair Town at SFU. On one hand, it's really really good food. But, on the other hand it's pretty expensive and their pricing has always confused me.

Honestly , the food is one of the only things at SFU I crave. I'd consider taking the 1 1/2 hour bus there just to get one sometimes. I don't know if its the meat or the ingredients but something about those donairs make them the freshest and best I've had in town. I personally love just the traditional chicken but I know a lot of people who like the sweet Hawaiian variety.

What gets my goat though is the weird pricing. They have regular and 'super' donairs which are supposed to indicate some level of bigger and smaller. The difference is only about a buck but it becomes problematic when often the regular and super are about the same size. If you're paying more you should get more and you rarely do. That tends to lead me to pay less but then about 1/2 the time you get so little in the donair it becomes ridiculous. The whole thing seems created to just force you to pay the higher price and it's always bothered me that they don't just charge that higher price and make the better quality donair.

So yeah, double edged sword. But probably the most delicious one you'll ever have to swallow.
