Before I discovered the threading services at Dona Lucia I had thick, unkempt eyebrows because I was never able to trust anyone to groom them for me. Through a friend's referral, I decided to try this place out last year (this review is long overdue).
I visit once every 1-2 months. Their threading is fast, painless and precise. The girls I've had are also quite good about discussing the type of shape you would like so there are no surprises. Thee salon is also very flexible with appointments and I either walk-in or call in advance, and usually am able to get in the same day. Highly recommend! -

I was relieved to find a place offering quality cheap eyebrow threading in Vancouver. I was in town for a weekend trip from Portland, where threading averages $20! No thanks.
I was seen very quickly at Dona Lucia on a Saturday around noon, and was pretty much in and out. They slightly raised their prices in January, but I ended up paying only about $10 including tip. Good location and professional service! -

Love Dona Lucia! The interior is very very clean, the service is great and the prices are WAY cheap. And contrary to what most business owners might think, it doesn't mean I spend less money, it means I get more services done!
The owner Lucia is the best waxer as far as I'm concerned - she does big long strips which I figure gets it over with faster. Some of the ladies are good but do short rips which hurt more.
The other great benefit to Dona Lucia is you can book your services/appts online.
I would give this place five stars if all of the waxers were as good as Lucia. -

I had the French pedicure at the Vancouver location as the price seemed quite reasonable. When I got there the woman asked me "are you sure you want a French pedicure? I like it on hands but not on feet.". Well I was a bit put off by her comment and felt that I was having her do something on me which she doesn't approve of. I almost second guessed myself but decided to go ahead with it anyway. The pedicure seemed really quick - about 45-50 minutes and believe it or not even the massage wasn't that great. At the end of the treatment she again exclaimed that she wasn't fond of French pedicures but as long as the client is happy, she's happy. Then mentioned that one of her colleagues does really good French predicures. Uh, why didn't she do my pedicure instead of you that made me feel uncomfortable? I will never go back to that woman again. Bad attitude.

Okay, I'm only giving this place a 4 star review as I've had one really good and one not so good experience getting a Brazilian here. Today, thankfully was the better of the two. I was treated by Sabah who was super quick and efficient and made me feel as comfortable as possible given the treatment I was having done. They do not use hard wax here, just the normal wax using cloth strips which is a bit more painful but the treatment today took no longer than 10 mins. I thinks places using the hard wax do charge a bit more but I guess the less painful experience is worth it too. You can also book online and select your aesthetician, I highly recommend Sabah. I do not want to say who my last treatment was performed by but she did not make me feel at all comfortable, the treatment took longer and with a less than perfect result. The price is super cheap too, at $27 for a Brazilian it must be the cheapest in town. I previously went to Frilly Lilly in Yaletown who charge $58 but do take more time, not always a good thing when you're taking about having a bikini wax, and use hard wax which is definitely a little less painful plus the girl there, Alanna, was brilliant. However, at almost twice the price I find it hard to justify choosing this salon over Dona Lucia's.

I had a disappointing experience here with brazilian wax... Yes, it's cheap, but I found the esthetician very rude and inconsiderate! When I told her I was in pain and she was taking too much off at once, she brushed me off and told me I was being a baby! Near the end, I was nearly crying in pain, and she still didn't take me seriously... If you are as sensitive down there as I am, you know what I mean! I would never go back there to get a brazilian... Not to mention, she didn't even take everything off...
On the other hand, they do cheap, good eyebrow threading, which would be the only service I would go back there for... -

After my review Dona Lucia contacted me to apologize and offered me 15% off my next visit. When I thanked them for the apology but said I wouldn't be returning they then offered a free replacement of my service at the time and date of my choice.
They also mentioned that the staff member who hurt me would be retrained.
As a friend brought me a manicure as a Christmas gift. I thought I would book in for my replacement as I would be at their kits location. The lady threaded my eyebrows and did a good job, much more to the standard I have come to expect. She didn't do any tinting but I believe if I had asked she would have.
I am very happy with how Dona Lucia handled my issue. I will use them again when I am in Kitsilano. I would happily recommend their Kitsilano branch.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Abi B.
I decided to try this place out for waxing due to their convenient location (downtown, close to transit) and their reasonable prices.
When I called to make an appointment, I was able to speak to a receptionist right away. At some salons, you have to leave a message and they'll call you back, so being able to speak to someone right away is a big plus.
I ended up running late for my appointment. I called to let them know and they were able to push back my appointment without problems.
The salon itself is bright and clean and has many treatment rooms.
The esthetician was friendly and did a great job. She even offered me some helpful at-home waxing tips.
I will definitely be back. -

I checked this place out because they offer a Brazilian/Half leg wax for $42 which is very reasonable. I have gone other places and paid more for just a Brazilian.
I arrived a little early for my appointment and was offered a cup of mint tea. It was a really nice touch :)
The room I was waxed in was very clean and tidy. The esthetician was amazing! She was very friendly and did a great job.No matter how many Brazilians I have got I still get a little nervous/jumpy at the sensitive parts. She handled it like a PRO, she was friendly, made small talk and made me feel totally comfortable. The wax they use felt a bit different than other places and I noticed that my skin wasn't as red/sensitive afterwards which was a total plus. In my opinion, this place has great value considering their prices are so reasonable, their staff is great at what they do, and they are clean. I also love that you can conveniently book online. I will definitely return! -

Although I have not been back for a facial or make up application, this place has been great with each service I have come back for!
First off, thanks for being so accommodating when I am running late! They never make a big deal about the time crunch, and I never feel as if my service is getting shortened in some way.
I have noticed they have offered foot stools to make life easier for us short people, and I was offered tea or water the last time I was there -- awesome!
I have been back for a manicure with Satinder and although she was quiet, she was very knowledgeable about esthetics and was giving pointers and tips to follow! She also helped me pick out the perfect red for my nails and I loved it!
After explaining to Satinder my hesitation to get my eyebrows threaded after a bad experience, she encouraged me to come back and get my eyebrows done.
Satinder is an eyebrow threading goddess! It didn't hurt at all! She was very quick, thorough, and never pulled at the skin. I swear I was out of there in 5 minutes tops! At $5.60 after tax -- you'd be crazy not to see Satinder for an eyebrow threading!2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Review from Pamela L.
I went to a different salon just last week to get my brows threaded first time. I get as though she was snapping off the hair rather than pulling them out. In about five days I realized I was right. Still, now that I've threaded them I won't go back. So I stopped by Dona Lucia because according to yelp they were pretty darn good and easy on the pockets.
Walked in on a Sunday and was invited in to meet Sabah within 5 mins. She is awesome. She even out the eyebrows, thinned one of them out, pulled out the hairs, took out the ingrowns, she hooked me up!
I will def be going again and I highly recommend her.
Next best thing? I think it was only about 6 bux cuz they total came up to $14 and change and I had bought an Essie nail polish on sale for $7.99. Score! -

I usually always go to Sima on Fraser at 41st to have my eyebrows threading down for years. It's quite a trek for me but, I've been reluctant to switch, I mean it's my eyebrows! I had such a bad experience with one esthetician that made my eyebrows look like checks!
I've been searching for a trustworthy esthetician downtown for months, that did not cost an arm and a leg. Sabah from Dona Lucia was great. Not only was she super nice, my brows are fabulous and it only costed my $5 -
Review from Awesta M.
I'm a fickle lady. I have been waxed and threaded so many places that I've lost track. I know, I'm very un-committed. But in this town of plenty, it's hard to stay committed. Once someone does you wrong, it's just to easy to walk away. And like Nancy Sinatra says, "These (rain) boots are made for walkin'."
Dona Lucia has been the latest in my string of relationships. We're going steady. They've been good to me. When I call to make an appointment they always have something in my range. When I show up for an appointment, I'm never left waiting. When I go in for my appointment, the aesthetician is always professional and quick. (Let's be honest ladies, this is one of the few times being fast is not a bad thing.) When I pay, I don't get sticker shock like I do at most downtown places. And when I leave, I always know I will go back. -

First off: ONLINE APPOINTMENT BOOKING
To be honest, just that made them worth while checking out, as I hate calling places, (it's hard to be at work and call somewhere asking for a brazillian).
However, even if they didn't have the online booking, I would still go back there. It's $25 for a brazillian, the staff is awesome and friendly, the service is quick and professional, and they do a good job with high standards of hygiene. You really can't ask for better service, and a price is impossible to beat. -

I booked my appointment at the downtown location through their website. It's super easy: they ask if you prefer a male or female esthetician, what services you would like to be booked for, and the time and date you want. Confirmation is then emailed to you, but you don't get a reminder call/email.
I got waxed by Lindsay, and since this was my first time, she first explained which area she was going to do first and which garments to leave on/take off. She then left the room to let me change.
The allotted time given on the online booking system and on their website says 60 minutes, however I was out of there in half the time. Lindsay was super speedy and the waxing itself didn't hurt as much as I thought. They use a wax that adheres to the hair, not the skin, making it less painful. They also rub tea tree oil over the freshly waxed skin afterwards. One dip per stick.
Unfortunately, a few obvious hairs were missed, but other than that, I had a good experience here. I will definitely be back. -

In and out in 5 minutes, clean and professional, five dollar threading! It doesn't get much better.

So disappointed with this location, I have to say I was never able to get in and actually have my appointment, because they canceled it on me. They attempted to offer me an alternative, however note to salon - (when you book a threading, don't offer a waxing instead). Also when you book well in advance to be ready for your WEDDING, don't offer appointment dates AFTER the wedding. Clueless, frontend staff, time will tell, if this keeps up, this business will not last.

I am very happy with this spa's excellent, reasonably priced waxing services. I have only visited the Georgia St. location. Staff is friendly and happy to fit you in, even at the last minute.

I passed by Dona Lucia's downtown location and I had to try this place out. For less than $30, you can get a brazilian waxing done here. So cheap! I love it!
The treatment rooms are spacious and there are a lot of treatment rooms. The lady was fast - so efficient and clean. This was one of the cleanest waxing I have based on all different places I have been.
They use the standard hot wax for all areas - No hard wax here (maybe that's one of the reasons why they are cheaper?) -

I tried the one in Kitsilano on Greek day. I got my eyebrows and my upper lip threaded. Everyone on the street just got their eyebrows done while people are passing by and staring at the 'interesting' way of shaping eyebrows! My case was different from everyone since I got my upper lip threaded and put my tongue under my lips in a 'weird' way so people stopped to watch my upper lip being threaded! I am hoping no one took a video of that and put on YouTube!
That being said, I decided to try the one downtown since it is way closer to my apartment and it will save me the long bussing time to Fraser street. I went today with my little sister and I could not be happier!
I have been getting my eyebrows and my upper lip threaded since I was 15. This is by far the best threading experience ever for both me and my sister. The name of the lady who did my eyebrows is Varznder. She was very friendly, quick and the threading was not painful (You think after 7 years of threading your upper lip it won't be painful.. but it still is!). Unlike the places on Fraser St., you get a nice salon experience and a quick pleasant forehead massage. The price is only $3 extra than what I used to pay at Fraser St. salons. It costs only $5 for eyebrow threading. I paid $11 with tax for eyebrow threading and upper lip. It is definitely worth it.
There is a separate room for threading and there are more room upstairs for facials, waxing and manicure and pedicure etc. Their price list looks very reasonable so I will for sure go and pamper myself! I am taking my little sister for facials' day soon!
