The Dolphin is a wonderfully run neighbourhood movie theatre. The managers and staff are friendly and take the time to remember you. The popcorn is fresh. The movies are recent. The prices can not be beat!
    5 stars to the Dolphin.

Yep the full five on this baby.

This adorable, locally run cinema only has two screens but runs late shows and $2 Tuesday with first run films. While I won't attribute the hilarity of Bridesmades to the theatre experience, it was all in all fabulous.

The popcorn and pop are reasonably priced and tastes like real movie theatre popcorn. Not the stuff that is everywhere now at the Cineplex etc. They have a cute little set up all in all.

I expect it gets really crazy in there when it's super busy or for the earlier shows, but we showed up at 830 for the 9, got our tickets, went to the loo and settled in.

The seats are super comfortable, the screens are the adorable small theatre size, the floors were clean and the temperature manageable.

It looks like regular movies are between $6 and $8 during the week (not twoonie tuesdays) but that's still super reasonable.

    Two thumbs up!

Only Dolphin Cinema still have a true Toonie Tuesday deal still.

I haven't been here in many many years, since back in the days when Mortal Kombat first came out.  Somewhere between then and today they have renovated the place, lol.  Much better than before.

Better seats, cheap movie, and no long line ups on opening nights!  Woot!  The trade off is no 3D and the screen is about half the size of the other larger theatres.

I've recently visited this movie theatre for the first time, after searching for other cinemas besides the infamous Famous Players. Just wanted to try something new, and a cheaper alternative.

I was very surprised to find out that they play first-run movies for only $2 on Tuesdays!

Although they only had "Kung Fu Panda 2" and "Pirates of the Carribean 4", these are movies that I would otherwise be paying for for $10+.

I had an impression that the theatre would be quite run-down. However, the theatre itself is well-maintained, with very comfortable seats. It could accommodate what seemed to be 200+ people.

The new management is doing really well. [He] was also very personable and took time to speak with me and my boyfriend, and explained how they would be upgrading the sound system for one of the theatres. He even allowed us to check out the other theatre to see the difference in the sound system once it's changed. Also, he was cleaning up after the show, along with his staff. It's always nice to see a down-to-earth manager.

Our total transaction, including the tickets, candy and a drink was $12.

It was really busy on "Toonie Tuesday", so I suggest to arrive well before the movie starts so you can easily find seats before they turn off the lights.

Toonie Tuesday sounds like a wonderful way to spend a rainy Vancouver evening. Great deal! And hey, the film is the same version as the one that you have to pay $10+ for, so why not?!

    Will definitely return.

Great theater, great prices (especially the $2 Tuesday).  Screens are a bit small but just sit closer than you usually would and all is good.

Anyone that thinks Van East is the pinnacle of Grindhouse cinema in the GVA needs to take a trip down Hastings to the Dolphin. The Dolphin has been operating for years on and off between owners and, lets admit it, numerous fires. Yes it's a bit sketchy but definitely in a charming way.

Whenever a big move opens there's no better place to see it than The Dolphin. There's rarely an insurmountable line and you'll definitely have a more fun and rowdy crowd. I'm a person who likes the people in the theaters reactions to the movie as much as what's onscreen and definitely this is the place to get that colour.

Granted if you're just in it for the cinematic arts, the place smells, there's a aisle right down the middle of the screen and again, it catches on fire. But if you're out with a group of friends want some cheap fun and laughs this is the place to go. Often it also programs great family matinees and double features on weekends so parents can take the kids out for cheap as well.

This theatre has vastly improved under the new management.  I didn't find a problem with the cold so I suppose the new management actually turns on the heat.  They have brought back $2 movies on Tuesdays and they are all first run movies!  The popcorn and nachos here taste better than any theatre including silvercity. Free parking is abundant in the neighborhood (theres parking stalls off pender st. Across the street-It's the hidden parking lot by the old McDonalds-now the new development) so I never have to worry about my car being towed or getting a ticket like at Metrotown.  And usually you don't have to wait in line.

We just returned from seeing the most recent Narnia movie at the Dolphin Cinema in Burnaby.  We were very pleasantly surprised at this very convenient little theatre!  Comfortable seats, lots of leg room (even for my 6'3" son in law), great price at less than $6.00 per adult for matinee (not much more for evening) and lots of (free) parking nearby. We will definitely be back!

Hot tip: bring a sweater cuz this theatre seems to ALWAYS have the air conditioning on. Otherwise this cute 2 cinema mom & pop theatre has all you need for half the price.

I had my son's birthday party here and it was a great bargain  - $10 per kid/adult admission plus popcorn and drink versus $17 at the other theatre (plus $3 extra for 3D). The kids watched "The Smurfs" (not 3D) on the opening weekend. There were also booster chairs for the kids and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
