Very nice cupcakes, store is small but quaint.

Service - the guy there (owner) is very friendly.

Cost - at $3.15 including tax it's a bit steep for a cupcake, I personally think they smell better than the taste (but I like light fluffy cupcakes, these ones are a bit dense).  But with that said, when you get one here they put it into a paperbag and after I'm walking around and banging it all over the place, it is still in one recognizable piece when I get home!  Yay

If you want them to giftwrap your cupcake it's $4 extra but then again you get cool wooden utensils.

If i could afford it I would come here more often!!!!!!

Note: Upon smelling this sweet confection, you will be hypnotized!!!!

I had passed by Dlish numerous times while walking around Queen West, but had never stopped in.  After New Years I had put myself on a sugar detox, and had avoided sweets like the plague.

But Valentine's Day came around (or what I like to call...Forced Affections Day), and I had the hankering for a Red Velvet cupcake.  So as a treat to me and my 2 fabulous roomies, I picked up a 6 pack of cupcakes to gorge on for this Hallmark holiday.

I picked up 3 red velvets, 1 salted caramel, 1 chocolate and 1 cookies and cream.  The service was great and quick.

Be warned though, not all 17 flavours on the menu are available everyday, but they make it easy for you to plan your cupcake eating by offering their flavour menu online, which tells you what cupcakes are available when.

I only sampled the red velvet & the salted caramel, so I can't speak for the chocolate or the cookies and cream.  The red velvet was pretty fantastic.  It was moist, with just the right amount of cream cheese frosting.  I consider myself to be a red velvet connoisseur, and this one ranks in the top 5 of the best red velvets I've had.  The Salted Caramel was the winner of the bunch though by far.  I shared this one with my 2 roomies, and after the first bite, we were in love, and we all kind of (not so secretly) wished I had picked up more of those instead.  The cake was delicious, as was the amazing frosting which was topped with a sprinkling of coarse salt.  AMAZING.

I have yet to try the rest of the flavours, and I am sure I will in due time, when it comes time to cheat on my refined sugarless diet once more.

    Highly recommended.

My fav. cupcake shop, not very masculine to say that but hey, it's good!

The presentation and the packaging is awesome as well.

My favorite is the red velvet which always sells out fast, the icing isn't overly sweet and the cupcake itself doesn't feel like it's packed with butter and sugar either, so it's the combination if you don't have a heavy sweet tooth.

There's only 2-3 seats at the counter so it is mostly a take out joint.

Tip: Sometimes when you go at closing you'll get a deal on whatever is left however they have been sitting there for a while so not as good as fresh in the opening hours.

Unlike other cupcake shops that scream cute this has more of a classy modern feel, but still feels welcoming at the sametime. The red velvet was amazing, the icing really rich and creamy, and the cake VERY RED!. It came to 3 something and though its a bit much omg it was so good!. You cant fit alot of people in there to sit around but for a quick drop in, its a perfect place to people watch for a moment then leave.

I hate to go back somewhere and mark them down....but I really have to I think.
My first experience was picking a random cupcake out of a box and getting a bite of some others.  The peanut butter earned the 4 star rating.

I've been to the retail location now though and had the opportunity to try some more.  Staff were friendly so the purchasing experience was good.  I wasn't given a  box though-a little bag both times.  Maybe it's less packaging?  They don't really travel too well in it though!

The three I've tried since (split into 2 separate days) were:
-Salted caramel: the frosting was OK, not very flavourful.  The cake was terrible-doughy and heavy
-Red velvet: light, fluffy bun but not much chocolate flavour.   The frosting was way too sweet for my taste though and I could eat sugar for every meal.  And have done.  I could practically feel the plaque tracking across my teeth as I ate it.  I ended up dumping it.
-Nutella: frosting was OK but I could definitely feel the little grains of sugar in it.  Cake suffered the same fate as the salted caramel and was doughy.

The two cakes I bought today were $6.78 after tax which was a bit pricey for the size.

All in all, there are better places.  Some hits, but it's hard to forgive doughy cakes from a cupcakery...

This is an easy one - Dlish makes the BEST cupcakes in Toronto.

It starts with great ingredients. They use fresh, real ingredients. No shortening or preservatives, no stabilizers or gross unpronouncable things. Just really good baking ingrdients for a REALLY good cupcake. As far as I know, they are the only cupcakery in town that is baking from actual cupcake recipes - in other words, they aren't making cupcakes out of wedding cake batter - which results in hard, dry, hockey puck type things; rather they are baking actual cupcakes, from recipes engineered for cupcake baking. This results in a cupcake that is absolute perfection - soft, moist, flavorful. Amazing.

A great example of Dlish's genius is their coconut macaroon cupcake: Coconut cake with light almond frosting and toasted coconut drizzled with bittersweet chocolate. Start with the first part - Coconut cake!!! Actual coconut cake, with coconut milk in the batter! The vast majority of cupcakeries in Toronto are making vanilla cupcakes and just adding a different frosting to make their different flavours. Not Dlish - their cupcakes are actually different cakes, not just different frostings.

While we are on the topic of frostings, Dlish's frostings are amazing. Not too sweet, not too sugary, subtle, yummy, smooth flavours. No wierd aftertaste or "coated" feeling in your mouth. Soooo, sooo good!

Do yourself a favour, and get your cupcakes at Dlish. All the other trendy places could learn a thing or two here, Dlish makes genius, delectable cupcakes. :)

Well -- many folks have giving you the low down on this place, but I'll add my two cents.

Wonderful flavours - the consistency of the cupcakes are divine -- so light!  Liked that they put them in a special box so they travelled well and stayed intact.

We tried the - Red Velvet, Coconut Chocolate, Chocolate with Vanilla Icing and Strawberry.

My friend loved the Coconut Chocolate -- my fav was the Red Velvet (it had cream cheese icing).

The staff were great -- so friendly!
BTW - if you go late in the day be prepared to only have a few choices to select from!

This place is pretty cute and the cupcakes are good! But it's a cut-throat niche market, and as far as cupcakes go, I didn't find this place measured up to Bobbette & Belle or even Prairie Girl Bakery. One of the biggest factors is cost. Each cupcake is $3 and they aren't very big. And then you have to pay extra if you want it in a box?!? That's kind of lame. Otherwise, your to-go cupcake gets put in a bag where the icing can get messed up:( (If you want to spring for it, you can get a box and customize the label depending on the occassion - birthday, wedding, get well soon, etc.).

The flavour selection is very impressive though and they have a very detailed schedule posted, so you can make sure to come on the day that your favourite flavour is available. My friend and I shared 2 cupcakes: dark chocolate and dulce de leche. The dark chocolate icing was amazingly creamy and delicious, although the cake part was kind of boring. The dulce de leche was the opposite for me. I found the icing way too sweet, but the cake part was just perfect. I was shopping at Body Blue after, and the girls told me their favourite flavour is the nutella one so maybe I might try that next time.

The store is bright and somewhat sterile with a few seats by the window. If it's sunny, it would be nice to have a cupcake picnic in Trinity Bellwoods Park. You can see them busily making cupcakes in the kitchen behind the cash. I didn't find the woman who served me to be particularly friendly.

Each cuppie cake is $3 a pop but the vanilla on chocolate is simply put it -dlish! The store is small and classy looking and they bake in store. The icing unlike others is smooth, rich and creamy. And the cake is moist and fresh (almost too beautiful to eat). They have a wide range of flavours which they change up but my favourite is the vanilla icing on chocolate cake. :)

overall best cupcake store in Tdot for sure.

I stopped by here this past weekend with my sisters and got half a dozen for $17. It's on the pricey side but then again it's on Queen Street, can't imagine the real estate being cheap.
Most of the cupcakes were gone so we didn't have too much selection - I guess they must have had a morning rush.  I tried the vanilla and salted caramel. The salted caramel was delicious. The cupcake itself was moist and the icing actually had a caramel flavour (unlike some other cupcake that I've tried) with just a light sprinkle of salt on top. The vanilla was also good but was on the drier side.  My sister got the last marshmallow cupcake (I think they sell out of these ones pretty quickly since it was sold out the last time she came) and enjoyed it.

I was told that there were no picture taking allowed in the shop....ho hum. The picture I took is of the box of cupcakes we brought home.

We taste-tested 2 cupcakes today; Limited Edition (Carrot Cake with cream cheese frosting) and Salted Caramel.
The cake itself was moist but a little pancakey.
The frosting was fluffy- liked the texture, but a little too sweet for my liking.
Overall, pretty good cupcakes but a tad pricey for the size

Wow. I'm sorry, but this is in really poor taste.

There are so many cupcake shops all around North America, and trust me, I'm a cupcake geek, I've been to shops from NYC to LA, up and down the West Coast, and Sprinkles & Magnolia are the originals, and the best.

The photos here caught my eye while browsing Toronto Yelp looking for Patagonia to write them an awesome review just for their phone based customer service, and I had to stop and write this.

The visual branding, logo, merchandising, counter display, everything, is completely taken right out of a Sprinkles shop. Even the "whisper" campaign on Twitter, and some of the wording on their website! Yes, I've spent enough time on Sprinkles' site to know without even looking.

Seems to me they're trying to capture some of that Sprinkles magic and gain from their hard work and devotion to their craft. Sprinkles is a husband and wife team, not a giant company. Respect their creative property, respect their dedication to quality. Don't knock it off for your own profit. That's not good business. Surely it doesn't result in good cupcakes.

While I typically search whatever city I am in far and wide for the cupcake shops, I just happened to bump into D'lish when I was the neighbourhood. The man who runs the place talked me for a while and then talked me into a dulce de leche cupcake. We had both spent considerable time in Buenos Aires and I couldn't resist getting a taste of my beloved city.

The cupcake tasted like a cupcake. I could tell it was comprised of a stocky cake base with an amazing icing topping, but unfortunately nothing about it said dulce de leche. I didn't regret splurging $3.15 on such an indulgence, but I think I'd go for the red velvet, which the very friendly manager revealed was the top seller. Besides, it's my favourite.

While my heart still belongs to Life is Sweet at the end of Queen East, I wouldn't mind popping by D'lish if I need a fix. The location is pretty much second to none as far as demographics go, but I think the cupcakes are a tad expensive and the flavour combinations aren't that creative. I would, however, like to acknowledge that D'lish doesn't use lard in its icing and for that I am a big fan.

They give out free cupcakes on birthdays, so make sure you swing by on yours!

Sure i agree with most of you, i like the birthday program. Free cupcake on your birthday.

I had a red velvet there last month. Yup, too lazy to write a review. I was not impress. The cake was dry, not quite stale yet that evening. I literally bought it 5 minutes to closing, so i don't know if i got one from the day before, or it was a bad batch. I've definitely had better in the city. I do like their icing, but altogether, I was not happy with it. Rather save my calories if i'm spending money for a dry cupcake.

I've been to cora's, wedding cake shop, the one in liberty village, whatever that one is called on Yonge near Eglinton. this particular experience definitely is at the bottom of the list.

Queen West has it up to its sweet tooth in baked treat options. High-end options like Nadège and Dufflet rub shoulders with accesible goodies from Clafouti and Quaff.

With so many temptations, is there *really* room for one more?

My wife has a thing for cupcakes. And fancy french baking and coffee shop cookies are most certainly not cupcakes.

The owners of Dlish seem to recognize this and are giving Queen West a taste of their sleekly presented cupcakes with a dizzying variety of flavors.

While it's early still, the cupcakes were far different from staples like the Cupcake Shop at Yonge and Eglinton and certainly not nearly as intimidating as those found at the Magnolia Bakery. The icings have a lot of character and the cake isn't as dense as you'd expect.

Where I think Dlish is going to do well is the number of cheap and cheerful presentation options they have to upgrade even a modest single cupcake to something special. The staff really show their attention to detail and know how to make you feel special, right down to helping you choose the right beeswax candle!

Give it a try-- it's a nice break from the usual on the strip and makes for some inexpensive and fun gifting, too.

You should check out this Dlish location, even if it is suggested that this location is a rip-off of Sprinkles. Even if that were the case, most people here aren't going to get on a plane to go to LA (or other major cities in the US) to try Sprinkles.

Also, the flavours they offer are nice. Unique, I wouldn't say so, but at least they are presenting an option for those of you in Toronto. Anyway, of the 5 places that we tried on our cupcake tour, this was the best place we went to.

I heard about d'lish through a friend, and had a chance to try a cupcake first, which convinced me to make the trip to Queen West to have another taste. I'm impressed with this cute and pretty little cupcake shop. It's nestled rather unobtrusively along a strip of tiny retail shops with hip names and dazzling signs. The simplicity of the outside of d'lish (dark brown storefront with an understated badge of a sign) complements the delicious, well-crafted fare sold inside. While the cupcakes aren't understated themselves, the earnest presentation of the cupcakes, named simply "dark chocolate", "vanilla on chocolate", "chocolate marshmallow", and "red velvet", told you quite obviously what you were getting. I like not having to guess or ask what to expect from a cupcake.

The experience in the store was excellent. The cupcakes are laid in a glass case for your viewing pleasure, and you can buy them by the dozen, half-dozen, or singly. The custom cardboard boxes are very sturdy, and withheld a long (and meandering) trip home with no crushing of the beautiful icing. Another plus, there is a table with two chairs if you want to eat your treat in-store.

Most importantly, the cupcakes were delicious. I enjoyed the dark chocolate cupcake and my husband was delighted with the chocolate marshmallow one.

Delicious cupcakes made from THE REAL stuff: Belgian Chocolate, real Bourbon Vanilla, etc...

Moist on the inside, the icing not too sweet or buttery, just right. These cupcakes are truly just small "Tortes", much much better than the average cupcake available in TO... just the price, 3$ a piece is hefty.

On the bright side: Buy less, enjoy more and gain less weight ;)

The best tasting cupcakes I've ever tasted were made HERE. Initial faves were strawberry flavor from Bake Sale, then coconut from The Wedding Cake Shoppe. Now, I must say it's a toss up between salty caramel and dulce de leche. I do not recommend heading there an hour before closing time as there have been times I sadly arrived to see a sign stating they were sold out. They are a few cents pricier than other cupcake places but totally worth it. Light icing which is not overly sweet and light moist cake which does not taste under baked as I've had the bad luck to experience before. Was so bad I waited a month before eating another cupcake.

I found these cupcakes on my aunts counter once, and I didn't say no to the simple looking cupcake with the pretty fluffy icing, and the blue star sprinkle put on top indicating it was vanilla. I loved it, and I would have reached for more had I not been full already from my previous meal. My mom had one two, and she enjoyed it as well, which came as a surprise because she didn't enjoy many sweets.
My aunt must have enjoyed their cupcakes as well, because she would often get some if she felt for something, and when we had a family gathering. My aunt bought a whole bunch and put it on a pretty stand, and before people arrived I may have been considering stealing some because I was so excited.
When everyone was ready for deserts later, I saw some grab seconds; I take it the place was a hit with them.
It wasn't only my aunt sharing the cupcakes with the world. My mom bought a box to share with my aunt again once, and the next day we brought some for my mom and her friend. It was a bit embarrassing when the man on the counter recognized us and asked if we were there the day before.
I haven't tried a large variety of their cupcakes because they alternate cupcakes on different days, but I know I liked the vanilla, red velvet and chocolate marshmallow for sure. The chocolate marshmallow might e my favorite out of them though because of the marshmallow in the middle.
It's a great place to stop by if you're walking down Queen St W, and is even worth driving to if you aren't too close.

If you like sugary sweet icing this is the place for you.

The shop has a nice urban simple feel and there is a large variety of made from scratch cupcakes. I can't remember the flavour that I wanted to try but they did not have any at the time. I'm told that some flavours are only available on certain days of the week. Great if you're a local, not so great if you came for that flavour. The person working there was super friendly but not in the obnoxious way and was able to tell me all about the flavours and ingredients.

I ended up having the red velvet and the mocha. The cake itself was very fresh, moist, fluffy and rich but the icing on both were too sugary for my taste. I was there with a friend and she felt the same way.

Not a bad experience but I'm not sure I'd go back. If  you like super sweet icing this might be the place for you.

Everything looks and tastes exactly like Sprinkles, I asked if they were owned by the American company and they said no. I don't want to support a business that rips offs someone else's idea.

The cupcakes were nothing special. The cake was not bad but nothing that blew me away. The icing is the biggest problem, gritty and sugary.

We've been a few times since this place opened and their cupcakes have been a hit with ourselves and many of our friends. It's a great option to bring as a dinner guest and/or as a small gift. The cupcakes have been consistently tasty and we've tried a fair variety of the flavours and they all bring something to delight. The red velvet is our clear favourite, though the salty caramel is a close second. The service is also fantastic - personable and always helpful. Keep up the good work!
