i have now visited this place 5 times in the past couple of months (all in 2012)...it is fairly close to my home, so it is easy...
I'm trying something new to eat each time...and it keeps getting better. Their soup of the day is always amazing...wow...the pizza, the salads, the burgers, the poutine, the mac&cheese, the wings, etc.
i also notice that every time i'm there it is getting busier and busier...a sign of things to come
i'm even enjoying a new beer called Dr. Funk...recommended to me from their staff
The food, the service, the value (value is important to me...i can't stand going out for a meal and not getting good value) and the overall experience is exceptional at Displace.
This somewhat hidden gem in Kits is going to be exposed and difficult to get a seat in that not too distant future
go ahead and give it a try, you won't be disappointed2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Review from Edward L.
I'm not sure how Displace survives. It's too far west of the busy area around MacDonald and 4th, and too far east for those walking around Alma.
Parking is available on the side streets.
There is a large outdoor patio, which should be somewhat nice in the summer. Except the seats are on the west side of the building, which means the sun will be in your eyes in the afternoon.
The place was quite empty. There are many ghetto booths (wooden backings), as well as some bar tables.
Staff were friendly.
Beer isn't the cheapest, at $6 for a pint. But they do have wheat beer, which is nice.
On Tuesdays they have 3 tacos for $6. This is the real-deal Mexican style, not the Taco Time variety. It comes in 2 flavours (beef or fish), and you have to order the same 3 in one shot. The beef one is actually quite tasty. Generous chunk of meat, with a nice spicy kick. The fish one had a piece of salmon (I think), and was covered in pineapple bits. However, the meat was dry.
We also had the slider burgers (6 for $11, 12 for $18). The meat was actually pretty tasty, and they're served with little pieces of pickle on top. However, it only comes with ketchup and mustard. If you want toppings (lettuce, tomato etc.) it's +$4 (for 6 burgers) or +$6 (for 12).
Towards the end of the visit, a live band started up. The music wasn't the best, but it felt good.
The food was somehwat decent, but to be honest, the value isn't the best here. I might come back in the summer to check out the patio though. -

The best word I can use to describe Displace is "average". That's not to say, however, that I don't go to Displace on a semi-regular basis.
This reincarnation of Nevermind trumps is predecessor in its cozy beach atmosphere, complete with surfboards and a less dreary paint job. The menu is also a bit better with tasty tacos as well as a cheap eats menu. When Displace first opened they featured an adorable dessert menu that included cupcakes and penny candies. The menu didn't last long and when I asked for dessert on my most recent visit, I was told that there was none.
The beer, as it always has been, is reliable. One of my Mexican favourites, Pacifico, is available by the bottle. It's also the only place in Vancouver that you'll find Vancouver Island-favourite Lucky on tap.
That said, there's nothing spectacular about the quality of the food, the ambiance or the service. It's the perfect neighbourhood joint for a budget-friendly pint or two with friends, but that's about it.
(As an aside, whoever gave this place $$$$ has no idea what they're talking about - Displace is one of the most affordable bars in Kitsilano.) -

Good cider. Good prices. Good food. Good service.
There is always a good drink special. When I went it was super cheap pints of pear cider and I am always a big cider fan. This was no exception. I had the buffalo burger which came with an aaaaamazing potato salad. For dessert I had the candy (as in, convenience store candy). You can never go wrong with candy. Yes, I am still 12 apparently. Next time I might try the chocolate chili cupcake.
Lots of patio seating, including cape cod chairs which are always fun.Listed in: Best Happy Hour

It's definitely a bar, went here for food last night (Tuesday), the place wasn't busy. Looks like it would be a great place for groups on a drunken Friday night.
I had the bison burger and my boyfriend had the sammie pulled meat sandwich which was pretty good! The prices are average, but does seem a bit more varied than usual pub fare (i'd like to try the dungeonness crab patty next time). If I remember correctly, it was an extra couple bucks for a salad, fries, or potato salad to go with your sandwich/burger.
This is a good casual place to grab some "grub"! -

Everything I've eaten here has been delicious. Brunch, burgers, late night menu with the most delicious poutine EVER - everything is great. The staff is really friendly, attentive and helpful with recommendations. The beer on tap is varied and the options are great. Love, love, LOVE this place.

Excellent all around!
Few of us went down for the grand opening the other night. It was great! We sat on the sun-drenched patio and had pitchers of their specialty beers (warsteiner, esb, london pride) and I had fish and chips and BBQ wings. The food was delicious!
The service was decent considering they had a packed house. We will definitely be back! -

Was in here for brunch on the weekend and again for some beers at the bar tonight to watch some of the Canucks game. Brunch was awesome we split chicken wings and waffles(with real maple syrup...great dip for a chicken wing too!) and I had the baja hash which was amazing...similar to a huevos rancheros. My girl had one of the frittata's which she loved and is comming back for next weekend. The beer selection is great not typical moslon crap. Good place to watch a game and awesome cheap eats...we only had the coconut calamari and spring rolls during the game and both were awesome! The only negative was maybe the beer prices a bit high
