I know absolutely nothing about foam, and have never cared to learn more about it. However, when I needed some foam to help fix some furniture, I was sure glad to find out Discount Foam exists. If you need foam, this is the place to go. Period!
Blending in with the many shops of Fraser Street, Discount Foam is a gem of a find if you ever need/want foam products for camping, beds, couches, etc. Discount Foam is locally owned and family operated for over 20 years. The friendliness, openness and knowledge of the owner/operator about his products is outstanding.
When you first enter the shop, you will see the shop is true to the second word of its name-foam is literally packed everywhere in the shop from floor to ceiling. Shortly after seeing all the foam and your brain starts to realize that there are so many type of foam made, you'll be greeted by the owner (John). From my experience, after being greeted the owner will just start chatting with you and eventually, but still quickly, ask what brings you into the shop today? Then the fun begins.
For any need, you'll be given a number of choices to choose from. For myself, I needed new foam for a futon that had gone completely flat. I sat and laid on many different foams of different thickness and densities to find the one I would want. At one point, the owner said, "It's good that you're trying the foam, but really sit on the foam like you would at home. If you jump on the couch, jump on the foam. Don't be shy." So, I did just that. I threw myself, body-slammed, jumped up and down, and many other actions on the foam to see if it would withstand the test of time in my house. Eventually, I opted for a high-density, antimicrobial foam.
The futon I was getting the foam for had a slightly odd shaped cover. No problem at all! All foam bought from Discount Foam can be cut into any size and shape you would like. I was wondering what the charge and time would be to have this done. The response I got was "well, since there's a holiday on Friday....5 minutes and free". With the sense of humor and great service I was getting, I did something I virtually never do, I bought the foam on the spot without checking other stores. Within 10 minutes I was headed out the door with my futon cover now filled with 6" foam that is comfy and durable.
Since I went to Discount Foam a few weeks back, I have looked into other shops that sell foam (just for curiosity). I am pleased to say, the exact same foam at other stores cost anywhere between $50-100 more than at Discount Foam. To add to this, I've sent 2 of my friends that needed foam for a couch or a camping mattress, and both received the same great service and great quality as I did.
There is no question in my mind that when I want some new foam for pillows, a new camping mattress or some other foam product, I'll be coming back. My fiancée said she'll be going sometime in the near future, as they sell yoga foam blocks for ~$10 (that's a heck of a lot cheaper than stores catering to athletic/yoga wear *cough* Lululemon *cough*).
If you know nothing about foam, and I'm pretty sure that's 95%+ of society, and you want a good product for a decent price, with friendly service, go to Discount Foam. -

Welcome to the unknown world of foam !
Did you know that there were SOOOOoo many types of foams ?! I didn't.
It's amazing.
What's even better ? they can cut them in any size / shape that you want !!
AND you get to choose the kind you like by sitting on them as much as you want :-)
Now that's a great store to go to: you spend your time sitting, laying down, chatting.... and asking questions. Cause of course, we don't know anything about all those crazy products. And the more you think about foam, the more projects you think about.
I ended up buying the foam for my outdoor patio (which was the reason for me coming in this shop). But I also got some foam for a baby book I'm creating for a friend of mine and some other foam for padding some changing pads :-)
I'm just in love with this shop now !
Too bad they don't have beenbags feelers, I would have got that too :-) -

I bought a bunch of different kinds of foam here, and everybody was incredibly friendly and helpful. John (the owner) explained the different kinds of foam and how they worked, cut them to the sizes I needed, and even helped me carry it out to my car :)
I think all my foam needs are met now for the next millennia, but if I ever DO need some couch cushions re-filled or a mattress topper or boat cushions cut, I'll definitely be back!
(Also: ask them about the movies they've done set-work for!)
