Dimpflmeier is "the place" to get your bread products in Etobicoke. Many grocery stores sell their products, but you might as well buy it from the source. Their bagels are amazing, slightly crispy outside and chewy inside, everyone I've shared them with has gotten hooked on them. They also have a dozen or so varieties of rye bread in half loaf and full loaf style. Not to mention their massive 10lb loafs, which whenever my family from the US comes buys a bunch to bring home with them. Theres a glass showcase of various other "rustic" type loaves as well as baguettes and snacks like pretzels and twists.

The rest of their product line is desserts. My wife and I are big fans of their cookies (chocolate macaroons and black/white sugar cookies) and butterfly pastries. They have a wide variety of sweets behind the counter and packaged pies and cakes in their showcase. These are European style desserts so don't expect them to be overly sweet like North American desserts are. Coffee is also available to be enjoyed in their sit down area, I can't comment on it though since I'm not a big coffee drinker.

Note that it is cash only but there is an ATM on site.

One thing to watch out for is their parking lot. It is generally very busy on the weekends and people pull in and out of spots without looking. There is a parking lot at the end of the building which I would recommend using instead of trying to find parking in front. On one occasion an old man (looked 80+) parked his Hyundai across the exit, blocking everyone inside the lot. I've also seen old ladies jump the curbs trying to park their boat cars too, so be careful.

Have you ever found yourself in need of a 10lbs rye loaf?  If you have (and strangely enough I have on many occasions) this is the place to get it.  It costs a whopping $15.85 for enough rye to make way too many sandwiches.

In all truth, I seldom require more than 1/10 of this at any one time, but if you find yourself with too much then it keeps very well in the fridge and freezes very well.  Just make sure the ask the check-out people you want some freezer bags.

They have a huge variety of other types of breads both large and small as well as a lovely assortment of pastries, danishs, cakes and more.  (How on earth do you spell the plural of 'danish'?)

They have a small sit-down area if you choose to nosh on your goodies straight away which is often the case with the small treats.  I find them nearly impossible to resist.

To compliment the sit-down area they have the Schaerer "Otto" coffee machine.  This particular machine is touted (by the manufacturer) as  "the worlds largest super-automatic machine" and is rated for steady production of 500 cups per hour.  I'm guessing they are only using 10-15% of that rated capacity at any one time and do sell a decent cuppa for $1.  (It's an americano folks)  They will serve the other drinks (caps, lattes, etc.) but since it's a super-automatic, they don't have a dedicated barrista that actually knows what to do.  That being said the machine is 100% idiot proof as super-automatics tend to be.

The only thing I can possibly say against this place is the parking (and the distance from my home).  It's always super busy and the lot is nearly always full.

    Absolutely love this place.
Delicious, healthy, quality breads in a great variety, though all German (a plus, BTW). Since I am not crazy about pastries in general I will skip that part (but do try them - they are fresh and tasty). The staff looks like taken straight from a Bavarian town - dressed in those cute uniforms.

They also sell spring water used to make their bread - now that is unusual.

One little problem for me is that they accept cash only.

If you are European like me, then you know how important good bread is.

Well, thankfully theres a Dimpflmeier nearby to satisfy our need for this delicious wheat miracle.  This place has the best bread around, bar none.

I strongly suggest trying the pumpkin-seed bread, it is beyond delicious.

Also, if your sweet tooth is aching then you can satisfy your craving with a good cup of coffee and some of the best deserts and pastries around town.  Seriously, this place has a mini cafe in it so that you can sit down and enjoy your sugary treat.

Anyways, next time you are going to get bread, skip that crappy Wonder bread that resembles play-doh and get some real bread from Dimpflmeier.

(By the way, I believe the way to pronounce it is DIMP-FELLM-EYE-ER)

Best place for great bread and other German treats.  Family owned.  great pricing and good coffee (but what German doesn't make good coffee). I buy the huge rye and then cut it up and freeze it.  definately a 5 YUM spot.

Dimpflmeier's is the best German bakery in the GTA.  It's likely the only one.  You've probably seen their rye breads around town.  Much more can be found at their main bakery in Etobicoke.

It is a large bakery or a small plant, but they don't lose out on quality.   I really like their Kimmelweck buns--buns with salt and caraway on top.  They need to be eaten the day they're made or the salt drys out the roll.  Dimpf's pretzels, danishes and stollen is pretty good too.   Go during the week if possible.  It can get really busy with Mitteleuropeans on the weekends.

This is nothing short of top notch bread. I've had a selection of their rye's but my favourite is the Munich style half-rye. There's just nothing like it. As mentioned in other reviews it is incredibly utilitarian and be used in any bread-based meal you can imagine.

For me there's nothing better then some half-rye and almond butter.

I am the "Bagel Lady" each Friday.  I pick-up bagels for my company each Friday morning from this bakery and they are absolutely freshly baked and airy.  My company looks forward to this treat each week with much happiness and anticipation.  I believe that carbs bring the company together.  The bagels are inexpensive and light, unlike the commercially produced bagels.    The ladies in the cash register near the coffee machines are very nice and the bakers are so helpful each time they see me toting my big bag ready for my bagel run.  If you have $2 on your pocket and need a breakfast fix come here in the morning and grab a couple bagels and have a satisfying treat!  (FYI they also have lovely pretzels but I limit my carbs to just the bagels.)

dimpflmeier's is the best! whenever i visit it's buzzing and filled with energy and happy people buying delicious carbs. my parents discovered this place when they were visiting the car dealership across the road. it has become one of our regular places to visit for a coffee and to shop for baked goods.

their coffee is delicious. the crema is perfect every time. it is very strong, and a bit bitter (maybe an acquired taste? but definitely worth acquiring). they have a wide array of desserts and some savoury snacks as well (ie ham and cheese croissant)... we usually have our coffee and snack before shopping.  you can find their bread in a lot, if not most grocery stores but i like to buy it from the source. i also enjoy their bagels. and on occasion the desserts.

Dimpflmeier's is a great bakery and the breads I have bought there are delicious, but my favourite reason for going is the kaffee und kuchen (coffee and cakes).  The coffee is delicious and their pastries are fantastic.  The best part is the price: a small coffee and a fresh cheese danish (often hot from the oven) will run you $1.75  At Starbucks you would pay triple for something less fresh.

There is a small seating area where all the local omas and opas (grandparents) hang out and shoot the breeze - quite a scene.

Best place in the city to buy authentic German breads and pastries.

I've had pretty much every variety they make and they are all fantastic.

I'm not a bread fan, but if you give me Dimpflmeier I will eat it all.

My coworker recommended this place and I must thank her because this is a unique bakery.  Their breads looked fresh and smell great but I have not tried them..yet.

I was there for their Danish and donut.  The cheese Danish was large (all their sweet are large and cheap) and heavy but not too sweet, great with hot cup of tea.  Reminded me of the type of pastry I had in Europe.

I've been living in Toronto for over 20 years ... how could I have not known of this place.

I'll be sure to make monthly trip to this bakery.  Too bad I don't live closer.

Stay away from the pre-package pastry.  They might be cheaper but the freshly made stuffs are much better.

Amazing! I absolutely love this bakery. My family and I have been going here for years and years. I don't think I've ever had one thing I didn't like from them! You're pretty safe with whatever you get from here. The cheese sticks and apple strudel in particular are to die for.

Been here a couple of times.
The smell of fresh bread is amazing. Lots of choice from breads to desserts. Love the little breads with the sea salt on top.

Definitely recommend this place if its with your bf/gf or if your going alone and want to have some great bread.

I'm pretty convinced that this is as good as it gets in Toronto if you are in the market for Western European style bread.
Dimpflmeier now supplies many of your favourite chain supermarkets, but allow yourself a visit to the mothership and you will be happier in more ways than logic would allow.
To begin, the bakery offers more variety than any I have been to (and that's saying a lot). You can find everything from "Hunter Style Rye Bread" to "Viking Bread" all under one roof. Chances are also that your favourite loaf will still be steaming the new packaging and will cost you less than the stale-ass bread offered at the aforementioned favourite chain supermarket (I'm using favourite a lot in this review, bear with me!)
Importantly, Dimpflmeier mothership bakery also offers an astounding variety of sweets ranging from possibly the best donuts in town, to marzipan strudels! If that's not enough, there is a reasonably large seating area for those times you just can't wait to get home or in case you want to have some coffee and cake while looking out the window and enjoying the scenic Advance Rd. (disclaimer: Advance Rd. may not appear scenic to all patrons).

While I absolutely love this place, two small issues bump Dimpfle down to a 4* experience for me. The first one is that parking is painful unless you arrive at a random time. However since the bakery is in the middle of nowhere, as far as I'm concerned, it should not be too difficult to find parking somewhere on the street. The second and more serious issue is that not all varieties of breads and sweets are tasty/well made and sometimes you feel whoever was making the batch of blueberry strudel that day did a half assed job! Overall the good outweighs the bad by a lot! Dimpflmeier is a win
