Review from Azim A.

This is one of those old-fashioned burger joints that are inspired by the 1950s era diner's and became all the rage during the 1980's and early 1990s.
This place works because they don't try too hard on the frills and glamour of being nostalgic, and instead focus on the quality of their product. While the burgers are big and greasy, they are definitely tasty, and presumably, this how they were back in the day. Interestingly, they are cooked over charcoal, not broiled or fried, and you can taste the difference that makes.
The fries are the same, though perhaps a little too greasy. What I really enjoy about this place is the Milkshakes and Ice cream selections, which are, from what I've, the best I've had in all of Ottawa. The prices are somewhat more expensive than you're standard fast-food joint, but then again, the quality is higher.Listed in: Top Restaurants

Review from Chris Y.
It's kind of a nice place. The food is pretty average, but good-sized portions. It's also kinda pricey for what you're getting. But the staff was very friendly! I just don't think that there's anything really that would draw me back, especially when there are many other burger joints to try out!

Excellent milkshakes, ice creams and burgers. Wasn't a fan of the dogs. Superb friendly service.

I loved it! I'm a fan of The Works but I hate the crowds. The selection of burgers cannot be beat at The Works but the Deluxe Burger I had at Dicks was better! Really great. I will be going again.

A newish old-fashioned ice cream joint that is welcome relief for those who are a bit tired of the Dairy Queen scene. Friendly service, delicious milkshakes and good selection of ice cream. An enclosed outdoor seating area, and a nice fifties theme closes out a very enjoyable ice cream experience.

Is there anything better than diner food? I love diners and am always on the lookout for new ones to try. I discovered Dick's on Merivale one afternoon while I was out shopping. On the outside it looks like any fast food place. On the inside, it is like stepping back in time to the days of malts and coke floats. My favourite piece of decor is the giant sundae display in the centre of the restaurant. Anyhow, the menu is typical diner fare - burgers, dogs, fries, onion rings, et. al. And, for drinks they have floats and shakes. The food is delicious, but be warned - it ain't cheap. My chilli dog was $5 and my shake (yes, the shake alone) was $5.19. So, without fries and with tax it was over $11. If there was some sort of combo deal, I wish they had told me. Anyhow, it looks cool and the staff is friendly, and there seems to be a host of regulars that stop by during the day. But, bring lots of money!
