I really enjoy what Dick and Jane has become in the past few years. Initially it seemed like more of an adorably kitschy gift shop, and then I was overjoyed by the influx in Alternative Apparel clothing. Now, it seems they have stricken the perfect balance of both, carrying a large array of adorable men and women's clothing, novelty kitchenwares, adorable teacups, paper lanterns, jewellery, books, and lomography cameras.
The staff are charming and friendly, they are always playing my favourite bands, and I never go home without something adorable for my kitchen. Today, it just so happened to be a "Home Sweet Home" mug perfect for hibernating on Sunday mornings off with tea this winter, as well as a set of "Babushkups," which are Russian Nesting cups. This was especially suitable after my first non-Yelp visit to a Communist bar last night. Life rules!

I like Dick and Janes a lot. The clothes are mostly unisex so it's nice that you can browse the whole store without feeling limited to one section. To date I've purchased sweatpants, two tees, and the "Flashdance" sweater, they are all beautiful pieces that are great quality and sooooo comfy and soft! The gifts are really cute, although i've never personally bought anything other than clothing. I follow them on Facebook and get really excited when they post photos of their new merchandise! I havent been in there lately but I know the next time I go back, I will definitely be buying more. I wish it was a little less expensive, but I'm cheap when it comes to shopping anyway. The staff are really cute too, super friendly and helpful!

This is a unique treasure in a city filled with stores that carry different variations of the same thing. The owner painstakingly chooses unique and special items that are sure to make for some fantastic gift giving. If you are lucky enough to have her in the store while you are shopping tell her what you are looking for and she will find the perfect thing. I have had several gift successes based solely on her good taste.

I always thought Dick and Jane's was either a second hand store or a children's store so I was pleasantly surprised to find an urban lifestyles store.  Dick and Jane are Blame Betty's younger brother and sister; and carries, clothing, books and home accessories.

The sales guy there is great, he knows all about the products and was very keen to present some highlights.  First of all there is some great emo type clothing gear, and then he raved about being the largest store in Canada to feature independent books.  Books that you would not be able to find in any bookstores here because they are pretty obscure.

My personal favourite are the toy like limography cameras, these are designed to look like the cameras mom and dad used to use, and guess what they even use the same 120 film. D & J's also carries limo cameras that use 35 mm and they have a very cool one with 4 lenses that show four photos in 2 second intervals in the same shot.  The photos are very similar to ones we had when we are kids, grainy, as if someone put pantyhose over the lens.  Well you get what I mean.  These run around $70 bucks and they even sell film if you need it.

This is a great store; there have really quirky and functional gifts here.  Check it out!

the place to go for holgas and lomos in calgary. i've found some really great gifts here as well. there's a tendency for shops along 17th ave and 4th st to have a lot of inventory overlap, and D&J is NOT one of these. they've always got something new and original to check out.
