Amazing cafe. Some of the best espresso and food in the city. Period.

Review from Chris C.
Ok, so it is one of the better places in Calgary and I'd dare even say better than Artigiano's but compared to Vancouver/Seattle, they still have a ways to go. I had an americano and their default espresso blend is a bit weak and acidic for me.
The cafe itself is a nice place to go for a coffee in the morning or afternoon but I can see it getting very busy. -

Was close to the office so great place to hop over to for short breaks ;-)
Love the selection and thought much better than your average Starbucks
Worth a visit! -

I walk past that Deville store all the time so finally I saw it. I went in and try taste their drinks. It's Cool. I drank Nutella Latte and fantastic taste! I love their make shape-like tree or heart on it, (it's hard to explain it so hope you know what I mean).
There is not much choice to pick one food. It's ok-ok. I will go back there to check up with their menu again... -

I have nothing negative to say about deVille. The service was top notch, the space is cozy and adorable, the lattes are heavenly.
I had a traditional latte and it was fantastic, although next time I want a special sweet drink I will definitely be back to deVille for the Nutella Latte. HOLY YUM! I can foresee myself stopping by deVille for many a warm drink on a cold afternoon, as this place is nice and close to my work.
I am also dying to try their food, it looked beautiful and delicious! -

Nutella Latte.
Yep, I knew it - that's all I had to say to get you out of your chair and on your wait to deVille.
But just in case you need more convincing...it's a beautiful little coffee shop that's up some stairs, so it was a perfect place to warm up and wait out the rush hour traffic on a super chilly day.
I made the very wise choice of a Nutella Latte - it wasn't overly sweet like you might have expected, and it was just perfectly smooth and delicious. The lady working there was very nice and made my drink look gorgeous.
Sadly I got there around 5pm so I missed the soup of the day, I can't remember what it was now but it made my mouth water. I would love to come back here and grab a bite as everything looked delicious.
Beautiful little shop, can't wait to go back!Listed in: Calgary Five Stars, Hot Bevvies

A nice big window, a chocolate latte and a chocolate covered granola bar, what else could possibly make my late Thursday afternoon complete? Maybe a latte partner instead of my laptop.
I love that deVille in Arts Central is open until 7 on a Thursday. It's open until 9 on First Thursdays, but it would be nice for it to do so every Thursday. There aren't that many late-ish night chill hangouts this far in the heart of DT, but with wine and cheese platters already on the menu, it might possibly be a nice crowd draw. Two glasses of feature wine and a plateful of cheese for $25 could be a very nice way to pass an evening.
deVille is known for its Nutella lattes, they're worth a try. And ignore Reginald T's comment on a chain. There's nothing chain-y about deVille. Two locations, one in Art Central, one in Fashion Central. No more, no less.
Check with the counter for the wifi password, I got the impression it changes frequently!
The only thing lacking are more plugins, although that depends on what they're after. People like me veggin' out on their laptops? Or more connection over lattes, wine and cheese?Listed in: Anybody but Starbucks, Inside Art Central

Cozy for a great late breakfast. The Nutella Latte was indulgent and amazing with a breakfast sandwich. Was great to sit by the window and enjoy a slow cup.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but what this chain is known for is their Nutella lattes.
I mainly go to coffee shops to work on the laptop when I feel that I can't work at home or at the office, and deVille is one of many places that I frequent. I like this location over the other deVille locations as it's located on the third level of Art Central and has lots of windows, which means you get a nice view and exposure to lots of natural sunlight.
I'm a Nutella fan, so when I heard that they served this kind of drink, I had to sample it. And all I can say is: It tastes so good!
The first time I visited a deVille though, the coffee machine was broken so I had to get something else. However, my friend was able to get a Nutella steamer (a steamed milk drink) even though it wasn't on the menu, so if you don't want espresso shots in your drink, you could try asking them to just give you a non-coffee version.
I like the Art Central location mainly for the decor and its proximity not only to the C-Train, but also the various art shops nearby. The proportion of upholstered vs non-upholstered furniture is higher than most coffee shops of this nature, meaning that there's a higher likelihood that you'll find a cushioned seat. Some of their hard-back chairs are rocking chairs as well, which is nice if you like to recline sometimes like I do.
When I'm in the area and need a place to crash with the laptop, this particular location is one of the first in my list. -

As Ive reviewed Caffe Beano previously as one of a handful of great cafe's in our fair city, I had to remember to review Deville. Ive been multiple times and would have to say that they serve the richest Latte that Ive ever had the pleasure of drinking. The sandwiches, although quite pricey, are gourmet. The Lamb is just ridiculously delicious. Atmosphere is very modern, bright but I found it slightly uncomfortable to sit for more than 10 minutes.
Overall , If you're a coffee connoisseur you wont be let down. -

Deville looks like one of those places you only see on TV shows. Big, giant, bright windows with trendy and modern seating and a killer ambience.
When you come to Deville, you will be sitting amongst Calgary's coolest and most influential people in the Arts community. If you do it right, this coffee shop can become networking central for you.
They also offer a great selection of coffees, teas, lattes and yummy sandwiches. Make sure you try the Lamb for $10. Apricot and rosemary chutney, oh my! They also have a scrumptious breakfast sandwich for only $3.50
They also have $1 off wine every day from 4-7. Now that is what I call happy hour!
There are some downfalls though: I hate it when coffee shops don't have white sugar. Yeah, yeah, yeah I get it. Raw sugar is better for you, but I like me my white sugar in my coffee. Speaking of coffee, the cup is rather small. I came on a day when I already had a ton of caffeine, so I wasn't too upset about it, but if it had been my first cup of the day, I definitely would have needed more.
This place is so cool that I come here to work on my long awaited novel about a short and balding writer who longs for simpler days and hair.
Whether you are looking to hang out with uber-cool artists, enjoy a yummy sandwich or just stare out the window and people watch, Deville's is where you wanna be.Listed in: Funny Guy!, Coffee for everyone!

Every store and shop in Art Central adds something to the building's success, and deVille is no exception. It is one of the best coffee shops in the city, and never fails to deliver a perfect drink. They offer things like biodegradable straws -- very smart considering their youthful and eco-friendly clientele. Don't get your drink to go -- stay a while to enjoy the bright atmosphere and great view.
As for the drinks, they're amazing. Always. The espresso is smooth and sweet, and the lattes are creamy and frothed perfectly.
The only downside is the location -- good if you're within walking distance, but sometimes difficult (and always costly) to park.
Any time I'm within 10 blocks of deVille, I make the effort to stop in and enjoy a drink. -

Fairly priced, lovely coffee. You should try their Nutella Latte... make sure you get a huge size though because you will suck it back like nothing else! The pastries are also delicious. Portions are large, I find, so it's good to share with someone. I used to work in Art Central so this is where we would all go for coffee. One thing, however... their drip coffee gives me a headache because it's so strong! I'm not sure why. :)
Parking is difficult to find, so you are better off hitting this place on foot or c-train. Get off at 1st street SW and Art Central is right there. Deville is on the top floor which is accessible by stairs or elevator. -

Awesome place with great staff. The crew at Art Central are always happy and pleasant - a great way to start a morning. The nutella latte is my fav - I'm a hard core coffee snob and this place definitely exceeds my expectations.
The Intelligentsia beans remind me of those wonderful relaxing afternoons in LA. -

I love the Intelligentsia coffee and I really, really love the attention to detail that's put into my simple drink (they call it coffee misto in this city -- it's a cafe au lait, about 80% brewed coffee and 20% steamed milk). Some places give you the non-creamy milk dregs left over after making somebody else's latte but this place always did it right.
Also, try the pumpkin bread. It's great. -

We were driving around downtown Calgary and on the second floor windowsill had big giant letters: BEST LATTE.... that got me interested. After walking the pedestrian path, I was happy that my bf suggested we walk here to get some coffee. We strolled up the stairs to this cute little cafe with rocking chairs. After much thought, I got the nutella latte, which was made perfectly, with microfoam shaped like a heart. The cups are custom stamped - each individual one of them, and made of recycled materials.
The latte was not rich, but heavenly, with lovely hints of chocolate. Paired with a delicious and berrilicious crumble, it was full of fruit, flavour and deliciousness.
They also serve beer and wine if you're not up for the java. A large screen TV with the ability to watch US open Tennis, what more can you ask for? -

I am a fan of Deville since frequenting the 1st Street location, which is now closed *sad face*. My husband had a Friday breakfast ritual - stopping by every Friday for our breaky sandwiches & latte - it was a highlight of our week!
Not to worry, not to worry. There are other Deville's in the sea with equally delicious hot drinks and yummy pastries! Try tne Nutella Latte. I kid you not. The buzz ain't for nothing! -

Proudly serving up Intelligentsia coffee, deVille is one of the newest indie coffee bistros in Calgary. Located on the upper level of Art Central with a fantastical view of the Calgary tower, this is a one-of-a kind location in which to enjoy a cuppa joe. (The art, the view, the decor)
Is the coffee good? Yes. At the recommendation of the barista I drank my americano sans milk - and enjoyed the smooth, pure taste of a good coffee bean. (That's my coffee somelier expertise talking there...)
The coffee alone will bring me back for more, but I enjoyed a great sandwich, too, that will definitely influence my return. -

Intelligentsia coffee reminds me of my Chicago days. Imagine my delight when I wandered into DeVille and found out that that's the type of coffee they serve!
This location of DeVille is as fantastic as the other one I reviewed. The staff is equally welcoming and warm, and their drinks and snacks are as equally delicious.
If you're anything like me, you appreciate consistency, so I'm happy to see that Deville is Deville, is Deville.
Great food, great snacks, great drinks, great vibe, great crowd. What else can you ask for? -
Review from Arinn W.
the sign says 'best latte ever' and i kind of scoffed at first, but after trying the lattes i must agree! they come out so frothy and rich, and the locations in both art & fashion central are awesome. great people-watching and arty feeling (naturally). some nice food specials & i tried the quiche--very, very tasty. every drink arrives with latte art! what a treat.
i recommend the nutella latte. nutella is like crack to me so i totally fell for it in a hot drink. -

Located on the second level of Art Central, I only ever went here the one time, after a busy day at the salon. I just wanted some "me time" with an iced coffee drink and good reading material. Now, I personally favor the blended cold drinks, such as frappuccinos, but this particular cafe doesn't use a blender. I asked the staff what they reccomended then, and I was told the nutella coffee over ice is popular so I ordered that. I must admit I found it bitter, but that's just me. I like my drinks sweet, so many of you would find it tastes just right. It's a tad expensive, but worth it due to the luxurious atmosphere. It's a great place for business professionals like myself to relax and go over paperwork or use the laptop. I didn't order a snack, but I could tell by looking at them in the display, that they are healthy :d

What can I say? I love Intelligentsia coffee and the care that the staff takes in its preparation of the latte. Beautiful, luxurious, wholesome and satisfying. The ambiance is hip, but casual. Came for a business encounter, which was not quite the right venue, as it was bustling with other folks. But, the best latte in Calgary.

I work in Art Central so our daily coffee here at the office is from deVille! Whenever we run out of coffee I promptly run over and grab a soy chai latte or even splurge for a Bernard Callebaut Hot Chocolate. The staff is always great and Paul and Mark are absolute experts so if you have any questions about espresso, their crazy water-flter system, or their recommendations for cuisine nearby be sure to ask them.

Great place to grab a morning cup. I came out of the summer morning drizzle, and got a beautiful maccha latte, a great example of the coffee drink art magic worked by the baristas at this establishment. My local friend remarked to me that he enjoyed their sandwiches that he sometimes had for lunch, but it was too early for me for those. Rather cozy seating areas can be found here. I did not have a chance to verify if this location of deVille has wifi or not; I didn't notice any easily accessible power outlets for laptop users. Despite that, it's a place I would want to try again at some time.

DeVille is outstanding!!!! With three locations (Art Central, 1st Street near Hotel Arts, and 1st Street near Fashion Central), DeVille is brewing up some of Calgary's best lattes.
Last week, I had a great lunch at their newest location near Fashion Central (1st Street & 8th Avenue SW). Had the Chicken Curry Sandwich which was outstanding and enjoyed a nice pick-me-up latte while working on my laptop. Decor is great, place was packed, seating is comfortable. I'll definitely be back as everything is great and they have wireless.
Also dropped by their location near Hotel Arts this week for a mocha and dessert. Terrific!!!
Nice work DeVille. All of your locations are outstanding!!! Keep it up. -

On the second floor of the Arts Central building sits a little gem of a coffee shop. Formerly "the Palette", the new sleek look of deVille has only further encouraged former Palette frequenters to come back. Comfy couches and chairs are arranged in cozy groupings, offering a level of privacy and intimacy for a quiet conversation. Brick walls and tall open windows that allow sunshine to stream in add to the ambiance.
Not to mention, they make the BEST espresso drinks. Lattes and cappuccinos are always topped with decorative designs, which is a nice touch, and they are so creamy and smooth. The desserts in the display case look fantastic every time I'm in there. Lately I've tried a triple chocolate cookie with my coffee which was amazingly rich, buttery and so very cholately.
Prices aren't that bad, either. The price for a flavoured latte here is nearly the same as a tall Starbucks latte, and deVille makes MUCH better espresso.
You can get your coffee beverage to go if you're in a rush, but I recommend taking a few moments to enjoy your coffee in this little oasis downtown. -

Good coffee - nice late art. In a building with lots of neat little art stores. Definitely recommended.

With Kawa, DeVille represents the pinnacle of the third-wave coffeehouse in Calgary and it has only improved since its opening in 2008. Still the only shop to use/sell Intelligentsia beans in the city, a great option to go with the JJ Bean and 49th Parallel purveyors. OUTSTANDING pastries complement the superb espresso-based offerings, and from what I hear the food is good too (prepped at the reputationally solid St Germain resto). Add to all that- lovely, calm space in a booming urban jungle. New locations (2 of them) are in the works too.
