Continuing to explore Victoria around and above China Town we stumbled across one of the most unexpected gems of our trip, Detour Desserts.  detour is located on the first floor of one of the few public buildings which make up Victoria's city hall quad.  Entering on street level you're attention first darts to the light blue, white and black motif -  then the chandelier - and finally down to the bar and display case.  By setting the dessert lounge in this way, Rebecca (the proprietor, really cheerful and easy to talk to) invites patrons to relax as they enter, surveying the lounge area, then meandering down at their own accord to order at the bar.  Really nice, really unique, and the best part, really exceptional.  I had a part of the Cookie Bake (four cookies, freshly baked, warm from the oven, and milk).  While my tasting only consisted of a peanut butter cookie, it left enough of an impression for me to declare this little hole in the wall a must visit for anyone traveling to Victoria.  The cookie was, and I take no casual tone in saying this (i'm quite serious about cookies you see), the best peanut-butter cookie i've ever found in a restaurant/dessert lounge/coffee shop.  The chocolate chip cookies were great too, but the peanut butter was exceptional!

If you're in the area of Victoria and are looking for something a little different, very friendly (like a local coffee shop) and very tastey, check out detour desserts.
