I went here as this is the nearest, and highest-rated bakery from Bloor station.

For my boyfriend's birthday, I ordered the red velvet cake, which was suggested to be best for newcomers. Surely, it converted my boyfriend's family from not being fans of red velvet, because their first try was on a cruise and it was way too sweet. Dessert Lady's version has the perfect balance, not to mention the authentic cream cheese icing they use. I also got to taste their dark chocolate truffles, which are really really yummy!

I am going back today, with my baby sister, who is into baking, and I'm sure she'll enjoy picking a Valentines cake for our dad. The friendly service will definitely make her experience memorable! They actually accept orders online, but it would be nice to see some fancy cakes on display.

Ohh, it's a good thing I don't live downtown. I would be huge because I would buy from this bakery all the time. I only tried the cupcakes (vanilla w/ vanilla buttercream, chocolate w/ vanilla buttercream, pumpkin w/ cinnamon buttercream, and lemon w/raspberry buttercream. They were aaaallllll oh so good. The cakes looked to-die-for, and the tarts, oh I have to go back for those tarts, they were calling to me! So many colours of macarons, and so many truffles and ice cream/sorbet flavours I want to try! Will definitely be going back.

I was on a cupcake tasting binge for a few months and tasted a couple of different bakeries a week. The Dessert Lady was unfortunately one of the last although it's one of the closest to my home. I simply didn't know about it being fairly new to Toronto. Anyways, I have tried the banana bread, brownies and a few different cupcakes. They were all delicious. The buttercream is a cooked Swiss meringue buttercream that is smooth, light and not too sweet. The cupcakes were moist and flavorful. The banana bread was so light and airy, I have never had one like it. I usually find banana breads to be dense and heavy, not at Dessert Lady.
My only small complaint, if it's even a complaint, is that the prices on cupcakes vary and some are $2.50 and others $3. This is typical pricing for Toronto where cupcakes in bakeries range from $2 to $4.25 (Cake Opera - ridiculous for what in essence is a fancy cupcake) but I do wish they were just all the same price and a 6 pack or dozen of any flavors were at a reduced fixed price.
I will definitely go here again and again and order cakes too.

This place is my on my must visit list, when I am in the Yorkville area.

I especially love the fact that desserts are soo good. It's located in Yorkville just behind Cumberland Terrace.

The store offers a selection cookies, chocolates, ice cream, and other baked goods. If you ever get a chance, do try try the mousse and her ice cream.

    My favourite:
    Strawberry & White chocolate mousse
    Cinnamon cappucino cookies
    her red velvet cupcake
    Apple pie

Mandy (the owner) usually switches the stuff in the freezer, to whatever she feels like, which more or less makes any visit a treat and i never get the same thing twice. Except for her mousse cups... I can't get enough of them

I needed to pick up a dessert for a belated birthday celebration.  Decided to check out Dessert Lady as it was close to my office.

It's a small store with a variety of cookies lining the shelves on one wall, a freezer of home made ice cream and a glass case of yummy cakes.

Service was very friendly and helpful.  Not all the cakes were labled with prices so I had to ask.  The gentleman helping me was very patient and exuded no attitude whatsoever which is refreshing to see for Yorkville.

I ended up choosing a lemon chiffon cake ($22) which served 5-6 people.  The cake was delicious...lovely lemon flavor and not overly sweet.

I'll will be back to try the ice cream ($3.50/single scoop) and other baked goods.

Dessert Lady Cafe have signs said NO photos with cameras or phones. But there were not much interesting pastries or cakes in the display case that would have made me disappointed that I could not take a photo.

On this St Patrick's Day afternoon, there were only some tarts and cupcakes available for sale.

    Coconut Macaroon ($4.25)
My yelp buddy highly recommended the Coconut macaroons, though they are quite good, I think I will be on sugar high if I finish that whole bag by myself. I am glad he willing to share one with me after I twist his arms and looked at him with tears in my eyes.

    Walnut Shortcake Cookies ($4.25)
Those shortcakes are the mini version... but beware, they are so buttery and flaky and rich... let's not think about how fattening they can be! But good for sharing with your friends since there are 10 or so in a package!

The staffs here are so accommodating and friendly, all my requested were granted with a big smile! That's what I call customers services!

I was eyeing the Mini Poached Pear Almond Frangipane Tart, maybe that's what I will have next time!

This place is THE place to go for red velvet. I call myself a red velvet snob because I am obsessed with it and have tried it from just about everywhere that makes/sells it. However, no one can seem to get red velvet right. Not sure why. Except this place. They are most definitely the best in the city. And I've told them that-they were pretty pleased to hear that! They use real cream cheese icing (which is to die for), where a lot of other places say they do, but it's just not.
I've gotten the red velvet cupcakes many times since discovering them 4 years ago and have never been disappointed.
I also order a 5" red velvet cake every year for my boyfriend and I for our anniversary. So so good. It's 3 layers and comes to $22. I have no problem paying that price for something so delicious. I actually just went in yesterday to place my order for this year :)
I've also tried the carrot cake cupcake-just as good. I should probably try something new next time, as I'm sure everything is top notch, but I just can't get away from my beloved red velvet.
Check them out, you won't regret it!

Upon being told that they make their truffles themselves, I decided to try a few.  The flavors they had were not awfully creative, but their execution was generally successful.  The earl grey truffle actually tasted like earl grey, and the lemon truffle was well-balanced.  They also had a nice consistency when I bit into them, neither too hard nor too soft.

This review is based only on their truffles, I have not tried any of their cakes or ice creams.  They also explained that they have a smaller variety of truffles in the summer due to weaker demand.

    Butter cream me.
    That's right.
Slap that sweet (but not too sugary), smooth, butter cream icing on a vanilla cupcake.

The Dessert Lady Cafe is a small bakery located in Yorkville.
They have your classic chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, and some funkier flavors too, red velvet with cream cheese frosting, banana and coconut.

Once in awhile they have infused short breads (also available through special order).  The blueberry-lavender shortbread was amazing! Tasted like blueberries but you didn't think you were eating a flower with the lavender.   Short breads are still buttery and perfectly crumbly.  I wish they had this flavor all the time. =(

They have ice cream here too, but I generally stick to cupcakes.
You can buy single cupcakes and they have a cute single cupcake plastic container for easy carrying.

I haven't experienced any overly dry cupcakes but I think it's because I'm more interested in the icing...and the sample cookies that they put out while you wait.  Mmm cookies.

When I worked in Yorkville, I used to come here to get my glucose on.  Cookies, cakes, pies chocolate they have all the uneccessary food groups covered.  If you are a fan of mousse...look no further than their outta-this-world Mango Coconut Mousse... it's light as a cloud yet whip-creamy and oh-so decadent.  Their Ginger Ice cream is dreamy too!  Also the people who own/work at Dessert Lady are super nice and always cheerful so it makes this place that much sweeter to visit!

Until i've actually tried their chili cookie I can not I've them any higher rating. Tried their cinnamon cookie and was very impressed! Great consistency just begins to crumble without being dry the baker really knew what he/she was doing when they made this batch. I ended up buying the chocolate banana cookies and the recipient of those cookies enjoyed them greatly and were very insistent that I bring them to this place when they got back from their vacation! Good value at just under a dollar per cookie considering the quality of cookie. Haven't tried their other offerings but they all looked tasty and I may just have to make weekly trips to sample them all!

You'd figure a chocolate cupcake would up my rating. Turns out it had the opposite effect: a little too dry for my liking.

My first Toronto Cupcake experience. My dad comes here quite a bit and says that the owner just loved to bake so she started her own store (sounds just like what I want to do !)

Well I walked in to see their cupcake prices were simple, but with some interesting flavours - amaretto, vanilla bean, banana, and red velvet at the highest price point at $2.99 / piece. That's the one my dad chose.

It was super hot so I really wanted Ice cream which they served and made IN HOUSE! I looked at the interesting selection and the Earl Grey Milk Chocolate caught my eye. I got a sample and it was DELICIOUS - sold right off the bat. I let my mom pick the second flavour - praline hazelnut.

The ice cream was really unique and I would've given this place 5 stars.. if it wasn't for the cupcake. Made with real cream cheese icing, it was rather boring and uninventive. The cupcake was dry and really not that great.

Go for the ice cream.... get your cupcake elsewhere.

This was one of my secret places in first year university. When all else was failing, I would make tracks to Dessert Lady, order myself a vanilla cupcake, and stroll (happily yet grudgingly) back home.

I am a cupcake aficionado and I have a strong preference for vanilla cupcakes, and this is the place to go for something simple and sweet. The price was definitely in the $1 range and the cupcake was more than two bite.

As a vanilla loyalist, I'm not so much of a chocolate fan but I did give it a go once and decided to stick with what I know.

The Dessert Lady has a wide variety of sweets. I picked up a non-cupcake on a few occasions and whatever I got was delicious but not amazing enough to recall.

This is a nice place to go to for dessert after eating at Mela, a local vegetarian Italian restaurant that no one seems to know, or checking out the ice sculptures in Yorkville.

The Dessert Lady sits somewhere between a grocery store bakery and a truly top quality place in terms of both quality and price. The space is large and totally open, which I like because it allows you to see the action in the kitchen. There's no seating, so you'll have to take your treats to go.

There's a decent selection of baked goods here: cookies, biscotti, cakes, cupcakes, and a few other things. They also have ice cream, which is made in house.

I tried the Mango Coconut Mousse Cake ($20 for a 6" cake). It was big enough to serve 6 people with modest appetites. It's a good option if you're looking for a cake that isn't too heavy. Both the mango and coconut mousses were excellent. One of the staff members did a great job of putting a message on the cake and he even put on some fresh fruit.

Unfortunately, the cupcakes, while reasonably priced, are not nearly as good as the cake. They have four flavours of cupcakes: vanilla ($1.35), chocolate ($1.35), amaretto ($2), and red velvet ($3). The first three are topped with buttercream icing and the red velvet is topped with cream cheese icing. I've tried all but the amaretto flavour and found them to be quite dry and not particularly flavourful. Of the three flavours I've tried, red velvet is my favourite.

Fix your cupcake recipe Dessert Lady and I might give you another star.

I finally visited the Dessert Lady Cafe yesterday and can now cross off another place on my "Cupcakes To Try in T.O. list!"

As has been noted previously, the Dessert Lady only offers chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, each with a dollop of swirled buttercream on top. Some more variety would definitely be nice, but there are also many other baked goodies and homemade ice creams if you're looking to mix it up a bit.

Anyway, I tried a chocolate cupcake and was only decently satisfied with it. Although it was very fresh and soft, it was much too buttery-flavoured for my liking. Way more butter than chocolate, in my opinion.

On the plus side, you can't argue with the price of these cuppies. $1.35 + tax? Yes, PLEASE!

Stopped by here Saturday morning on a whim, in the mood to make my bf smile with some a.m treats...I had never tried anything from here and quickly grabbed a package of 10 cookies, baked that morning. I was pleasantly surprised when i bit into the soft, slightly-salted chewy chocolate chip cookie...mmm what a way to start a Saturday! My bf and his brother thoroughly enjoyed the cookies as well -- they were like those melting moments chocolate chip cookies we used to get in the highschool cafeteria, but way, wayyy better...
