Review from Steph L.
Craving some black sesame paste late one Friday night and being dismayed to find my favourite place for it was closed already, I ended up at Dessert Kitchen.
One of the first things I noticed was how expensive the food is! It's not cheap at all for what it is and I can find all the dishes for less at most other Chinese dessert places. Despite the inflated prices, a number of things on their menu caught my eye; I narrowed my choices down to 3 for my mom and I to share.
First to arrive was the MANGO SAGO WITH POMELO (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). This wasn't bad and was actually better than any of the ones I've had in SF (though it paled in comparison to the ones I had in HK). The mango juice/nectar was really good but it could've been served colder. There was a lot of sago but there weren't very many mango pieces and the ones that were there were very tart. There were even less pomelo pieces--but at least they use pomelo and not grapefruit (which they use in SF for this dish - WTF?)
Then came the dish I came here for--BLACK SESAME PASTE (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...). I opted to add black sesame rice balls for $1.75, which was quite pricey considering they only give you two. The paste was sweet but bland and lacking in black sesame flavour. The sesame rice balls (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) were easily the best part of the dish since they actually tasted like black sesame.
Lastly I ordered something I've never had before. The EGG CUSTARD THICK TOAST (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) was just meh. It wasn't anything special and was basically a thick slice of toast with a thin layer of sweet milk custard on top.
All in all, this is a place that overcharges you for food that isn't very good. I wouldn't come back again. Next time my favourite black sesame paste place is closed, I'd be better off just going home and trying again the next day. Good Chinese desserts are worth waiting for! -

FTR in another country?! Awesome!!
Unfortunately, I can't say the same about our experience. After dinner, we drove around looking for an Asian dessert place. Without any luck, we ended up being recommended to Dessert Kitchen by a local cafe employee.
Its a decent size place located in a plaza. Everything's clean and chic. Not an extensive list of desserts, but still a good amount.
2 out of the 3 desserts we ordered were based on pictures. And of course, those 2 items did not really look how they were supposed to.
Mixed Fruits with Grass Jelly (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): In the picture, the dessert had beautiful balls of melons and dragonfruit. What we got were half balls and diced up overripe mushy fruits.
Black Glutinous Rice (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Warm, not very sweet. It was okay.
At this point, I was thinking 3 stars. Desserts were decent. But we were still waiting for our last dessert. It already took a while for the first 2 to come out. Then another 10 minutes passed. Okay, where is it?
Then finally someone told us that they're out of the tofu dessert and it'll be 5 more minutes. There was only one other party and they were done already. So why weren't we told earlier?
Finally our last dessert came out. We took one look.
Yin Yang Tofu Black Sesame Dessert (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Really?! This is what we were waiting for?! What is this? It looks like crap! The black sesame pudding was thick, almost gunky. And the tofu part was tasteless.
That totally made our experience from okay to horrible.Listed in: No, thank you!
